BCAA
Question: Is a protein shake with BCAA good for high school football players? Im currently trying to build muscle to play varsity football.
Im reading this protein bottle, "Whey Protein", and it says something dealing with BCAA. So I take this, or something else?
Answer: Any whey protein will be stacked to the max with Aminos (BCAA's) so yes. Whey protein is a high performance functional food that can definitely aid in recovery and improve your immune function. And if a muscle is stimulated properly, whey can help repair and build new muscle tissue.

Try and eat a couple of these mega gainer smoothies per day in addition to your normal diet and your sure to gain!!!
Question: Should I drink a protein shake or take a BCAA supplement for post-workout? I've always used protein shakes as a way to recover from workouts. I've tried many different brands and have used Pro-Source and other helpful reviews to guide me to some of the higher-quality protein mixes. What I would really like to know is if BCAA's are a better way to recover from a workout?
Answer: After your workout you'll want to slam a Whey protein shake which CONTAINS branched chain amino acids. I use Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard. Blend it up with skim milk and creatine monohydrate.
Question: Will taking BCAA'S and weightlifting prevent muscle loss while running in cross country? I have gained quite a bit of muscle but now im running in cross country, I dont want to lose my gains so will taking BCAA'S and also weightlifting prevent muscle loss? I don't mind not being an amazing runner i just do it for fun so i dont care if the muscle slows me down. Thanks!
Answer: This guy has researched a lot and even has a research about cross-country.

I take L-Glutamin to spare muscle loss (marathon training, but want to keep muscle mass 180lbs 10% fat), but I think it is a waste of time, because results are seen only if it is injected. Maybe other type glutamine like Ethyl-Ester or AKG could get absorbed better and spare protein. BCAA seems like it works much better and from what I've read, effects are really noticeable.
At all rates, continue weightlifting. You will still lose a little and you won't gain mass, but you'll keep the muscle strong and ready to get back to full size when you take a break from running.
Question: What does taking BCAA supplements while working out achieve? I have a rough idea but I need to know the big picture, thanks!
Answer: There are roughly 20 amino acids. We do not get all of them in any single protein source. Branched chain amino acids are important in constructing muscle tissue and that happens to be a major part of what is in most whey supplements. To complement it, you should take a grain protein like rice protein.
Question: Are there long term effects of supplementing glutamine or BCAA or Carnitine? I've recently started taking L-Glutamine and Branched Chain Amino Acids for weight lifting and working out. I'll also be getting into carnitine when I start cutting down.
My question is, are there any long term side effects for these three supplements? And will there be defficiencies when I decide to stop supplementing (as the body will no longer produce, because it's been supplemented for so long)? And this brings me to another question (I've asked in diet/fitness category also), do you need to cycle any of these supplements?
And please, I would like to know facts and not just opinions. Thanks in advance!
Answer: I've had good effects from glutamine on liver--it's supposed to be good, but I don't know about the rest. Carnitine is found in meat, so it shouldn't be bad for you. Here is what I looked up online and found:
Blood concentrations of branched chain amino acids (BCAA; leucine, isoleucine, and valine) and glutamine (Gln) decrease markedly in sepsis. We investigated the effect of carnitine on serum concentrations of BCAA and Gln in fasted septic rats. Rats were made septic by cecal ligation and puncture. They developed extremely high blood concentrations of endotoxin, and serum concentrations of BCAA and Gln were markedly decreased 2 d after the operation. When L-carnitine was administered subcutaneously to the rats at 500 mg/kg body weight every 12 h for 2 d starting at the operation, no decrease in the serum concentrations of BCAA and Gln was observed. This indicates that the administration of carnitine can prevent the decrease of serum concentrations of BCAA and Gln in septic animals.
Question: What else should I do? I workout 6 days a week and take l-carnitine, bcaa in multivitamin, and a whey isolate.? I run on a elliptical and alternate days in lifting for different parts of my body. I just started and want results. Please help me
Answer: Don't you think 6 days a week is too much for beginner? If I understand correctly, you want to lose weight, right? If so, you should not only exercise, but keep attention on your daily nutrition - find out how many calories you need per day. I recommend you to visit dietitian - he will make an individual diet and you'll successfully lose weight. If you don't want to go there, just do not eat fat food, forget about desserts. You should dine until 6 p.m., later ( 2-3 hours before bed time) you can eat one of your favorite fruit.
Question: Does taking bcaa reduce the daily requirement for protein?
Answer: I dont see why it would I take bcaa before working out and whey protein after working out,
Question: Can I use BCAA and PowerPump 250 at the same time? I have recently started going to the gym, to gain weight and muscle. I am using CytoSport CytoGainer and am looking to buy BCAA and PowerPump 250. Upon reading the description and uses of both, they both have similar effects.
So, would it be bad/stupid/usless to use both at the same time? Any answers/ thoughts would be appreciated.
Thank you :)
Answer: dont u mean superpump 250 by gaspari?
superpump already has some bcaa so u dont need to take extra bcaa before
u can take the bcaa's in a water bottle and zip it through out ur workout and take it again after ur workout with cytogainer
if done this way soreness should drasticly decrease which is good because it means ur muscles are fully healed
Question: What single natural food is richest in BCAA concentration? or maybe rank the top 5 if you know that, please list amounts per egg or ounce of chicken breast etc.

Question: When should you take BCAA (branched chain amino acids) for all you body builders out there? I just purchased BCAA Branched Chain Amino Acids
Should you take BCAA right before a workout? or post workout
Or should you take it first thing in the morning 30 min. before breakfast?
I also purchased Flax Oil and I try taking that twice a day, not sure if that's enough though.
Answer: MOST IMPORTANT IS AFTER YOUR WORKOUT, THAT WHEN YOUR MUSCLES NEED IT THE MOST, YOU CAN ALSO TAKE SOME BEFORE. BUT AFTER IS MOST IMPORTANT.
Question: What is the difference between Bcaa and Arginine, and which one is better for muscle growth? i want to know which one of these aminos are better for muscle growth
Answer: BCAA is short for branched chain amino acids which is a whole class of amino acids. Arginine is more effective in most people. BCAA are in adequate amounts in whey protein or cheese.
Question: What is your take on BCAA (branch chained amino acids) and fitness? What is the effect of taking them before and/or after a workout? What about taking them along with food? Are they useful in building muscle mass?
Answer: Branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) are amino acids having aliphatic side-chains with a branch (a carbon atom bound to more than two other carbon atoms). There are three branched-chain amino acids leucine, isoleucine and valine of twelve common ones.
The combination of these three essential amino acids makes up approximately 1/3 of skeletal muscle in the human body, and plays an important role in protein synthesis. BCAA’s are currently used clinically to aid in the recovery of burn victims, as well as for supplementation for strength athletes.
Question: Is there any point in supplementing BCAA's and Protein Powder together?
Answer: No, the powder has all the essential amino's in it.
BCAA's should be taken either on an empty stomach in the morning and an hour before and after working out to help preserved your muscle.
Question: should i add bcaa and l glutamine to my protein? I'm taking muscle milk during the day and working out pretty hard I was wondering if I should add any extra bcaa or L glutamine to it pleae help.
Answer: I like to mix my high quality chemical free whey protein with L-Glutamine to my shake it it works great!!!
Question: Whats better BCAA or Amino Acids, is there a difference how does each one work different in the body?
Answer: Most food protein rich food contains essential amino acids. Protein can't be manufactured by the body unless all the required amino acids are present.
BCAA stands for Branch Chain Amino Acid, they are leucine, isoleucine, and valine. These 3 amino acids are the most important for muscular growth and development.
BCAA are faster in body abosorbtion rate than tryptophan and tyrosine amino acids. However, you can't take BCAA and tryptophan and tyrysine at the same time because they nullified each other's effect. However you can take them by turns.
Here is a list of other amino acids and their effects:
Histidine: vital tometabolic process of protein synthesis
Arginine: boost growth hormone, however needs to be balanced.
Glycine: nitrogen pool for the manufacture of the nonessential amino acids, also important element in the structure of red blood cells. Another word, energy.
Lysine: slowdown in protein synthesis affecting both muscle and collagen formation.
Proline: very similiar to Lysine.
Cystine: component of tissue antioxidant mechanics. So that translates to diminished pain from imflammation, prolonged youth.
Glutamic Acid: boots energy with vitamin B-complex and magnesium.
Alanine: regulate blood sugar leveld. Stablize muscle loss. So without it, you will loose muscle.
Serine: celluar energy producer. Also aids memory. Serine can be formed by essential amino acid threonine.
Threonine: Excessive use of this can cause too much ammonia toxicity in the body. Must be used with vitamin B6, magnesium and niacin.
Methionine: help to remove poisonous waste from your liver, repairs liver and kidney tissues. Influences hair follicle health.
Phenylalanine: for pain reduction and antidepression threapy.
Tryptophan: increase serotonin. which helps to depress stress and moddiness and regulates daily biological rhythms.
Aspartic acid: converts carb into glucose and then into glycogen, which is the main source of muscle energy.
Question: How often throughout the day should one take BCAA's? And should it be inbetween meals or with?
Answer: From everything that I've read you should take them as much as much possible on an emtpy stomach. Also, right before and right after working out. A good BCAA products is from beverly international, go to bevnut.com
