Question: How did the Great Migration of African Americans to the North affect the Roaring twenties and great depression? For my english report, i have to choose a topic for writing a paper on effects that certain events had on The Roaring Twenties and The Great Depression. I'm most likely going to choose The Great Migrations of african americans to the north, but I don't quite know how this impacted the time period of the roaring twenties and the great depression, and that's the whole entire point of my research paper?
Any ideas on how the great migration affected the roaring twenties and the great depression time period?
Answer: o-Changes in technologies of transportation and communication, in values and habits, and economic life transformed the face of American life in the 1920’s.
oThe United States became an urban nation, with a diverse population and variety of values.
oAfter the stock market crash of 1929, the United States economy sank into the worst depression in its history. Franklin D. Roosevelt initiated federal programs that put Americans back to work and provided an economic safety net.
oThe Great Depression and the New Deal dramatically changed the lives of most Americans and began to change both their understanding of the economic system and the role of government in American life.
oThe New Deal had many long term effects on United States government and society; and as a result of the New Deal, the role of the Federal government changed, transforming American politics, the economy and society.
oBusiness was booming in the 1920’s and the standard of living rose for many Americans bringing many social, economic and political changes. Inventions and technological advances transformed production and work, as well as rural and urban life.
oSocial and political changes in society brought new attitudes and lifestyles to the nation, bust some changes caused conflict.
oPopular culture was influenced by the mass media and new forms of popular entertainment and technology were developed.
oEconomic conditions affect politics, individuals and societies. Economic security became recognized as a condition of personal freedom.
The ideals of freedom and equality continued to evolve for various groups and in various ways (i.e. women’s struggle for suffrage and equal rights, African-Americans - racial tensions manifested in the rise of black nationalism, the Harlem Renaissance, the first great north migration, the response of the KKK, fear and hysteria over radicals, the closing of the open door for immigrants, and the resurgence of Protestant fundamentalism).
Question: How do the great lakes remain fresh water if they are connect to salt water systems? The 5 great lakes form the world largest supply of freshwater. However, the great lakes are connected to 2 large bodies of salt water through a system of tributaries and rivers (including the St. Lawrence Seaway and the Mississippi River). Please help explain how the great lakes remain freshwater despite being directly connected to large water supplies.
Answer: I agree with the first person's answer. The water is flowing upstream and out in the lakes. When you think about it, all of the run off water and water from storm drains and that drain into the great lakes, making the water have to leave them somehow. That water leaving from the great lakes are nothing compared to the amount of salt water.
Question: What great gifts has the evolutionary theory given to mankind? The theory of evolution has been around for over 100 years and millions of dollars have been spent studying it. What has humanity gained after all of the effort put into evolution. For example some scientific theories brought fourth electricity, some brought fourth cures for diseases, others household appliances like the microwave. What great things has humanity gained through the study of evolutionary theory?
Most will probably say knowledge or understanding and those things are great, but are there any physical, tangible or useful benefits for humanities everyday use. What has this theory given back to society after all that has been poured into it? and Is the trade off worth it?
Answer: Evolution shows us that there's one born every minute.
If we were smart enough to believe in God we might have to change and do something about it.
It's the easy way out, and proves nothing, its a nonsensical theory. Summed up in these wise words, it is as likely as flying pigs.
Question: What are the general characteristics of a great historical figure and why? A great historical figure for example would be Alexander the Great.
Also, what kind of person was Alexander the Great, why was he called the Great, did his actions merit him this title, and was he just an average person with great leading abilities, or a figure that was larger-than-life?
Any answers, even personal beliefs and opinions will help, thanks a lot!
Answer: The so called "great man" theory is simply that there are certain people who come along and almost single handedly change the course of history. An example would be Abraham Lincoln. Would some else have succeeded at his tasks? The GMT people would say NO.
The other view is that great events come along and carry otherwise ordinary people to great results. An example would be Harry S Truman. An undistinguished man up until ascending to the presidency and became a giant in post war history. So events make the Great Man, not the other way around.

Question: What is a great steam hair straightener for a great price? I need a steam hair straightener, a hair straightener that's actually good for the hair. I'd really like the ionic type with ceramic or tourmaline plates but anything healthy for the hair and a great price would be great. Thanks in advance.

Question: What is a great product or way to prevent acne breakouts and heal the skin? Looking for over the counter product that is great for preventing acne, if it helps i am a 17 year old male. Also any suggestions on a product that is great for healing the scared skin would be great, thanks.
Answer: A skin disorder that is visibly apparent is a major source of embarrassment to the sufferer, and getting rid of it can be a very trying and expensive experience. People suffering from acne are always in pursuit of ways that they can help prevent acne because as they say, prevention is always better than cure. Here are a few viable ways to help prevent or reduce the chances of an acne breakout, thus avoid another embarrassing moment. There are also a few natural acne treatment options for you in the event that acne occurs when you least expect it.
Acne Prevention Tips:
Always apply a honey mask on a daily basis as honey is thought to be a great disinfectant and a great way to heal acne pimples. Honey is also known to be an effective antibacterial hence will help kill acne causing bacteria from your skin.
If you have extremely long hair, why not cur it or better still, hold it in a style that it doesn't come in contact with your facial skin, This is because hair contains oil and may trap dust particles which may be transferred to your beautiful skin.
Use a multi-vitamin twice daily to boost your nutritional value.
Vitamins should also be taken on a daily basis, particularly Vitamins A as it helps reduce an overproduction of sebum and helps prevent an acne breakout.
Avoid over-scrubbing or over-washing the skin.
Avoid stressful situation as there is enough evidence to suggest that acne can actually be triggered by emotional instability.
Take the recommended 8 glasses of water daily to keep the skin hydrated always.
Avoid alcohol based cosmetic products.
Consume foods rich in Zinc and a lot of veggies and fruits on a daily basis.
Do regular exercises to boost blood circulation in the body and to help in toxin elimination.
Be wise when selecting your cosmetic products as they can trigger acne.
Acne Home Remedy Tips:
Place a ripe tomato pulp on the acne affected areas and allow to stay for an hour before washing and patting dry with clean towels.
Apply the raw papaya juice on the acne affected areas, particularly on swelled pimples.
Apply fresh garlic on the pimples and watch them fade away.
Make a paste using orange peel and water then apply it evenly on the acne affected areas of the skin.
Question: How to become a great artist: 10 great masterpieces in a lifetime OR a lifetime of great paintings? This question is for the artist community. Yeah, what does it take to become a great artist? Let's suppose i paint 10 really really good masterpieces in my entire lifetime. Is that enough to make you a good renouned artist who will be remembered for ever? Or is it compulsory to dedicate your life to art and spend a lifetime doing countless good (or just good) paintings? Which of these two?
Answer: I would have to agree with both of them, BUT...
There are a few artists in the world whose talent is such that their art work is just spectacular. These people usually have a photographic mind of things around them. They are in a league of their own. BUT...unless they do anything with this talent they have, nobody will ever know they exist. Therefore, you must push yourself into getting your art out into the public for them to see. Unfortunately, this may lead to you working on those "good" paintings and never having the time to master your art disciplines.
Then there are artists who have been great, were okay with their artwork, but took a detour into another form of art. These are the iconic artists who made a niche for themselves. These are the "gimmick" artists who were known for specific art genres. I'm not going to name names because others may disagree with me, but I think you get the jest of it.
Why you picked the number 10 is beyond me. Da Vinci accomplished much in his life, but have you ever thought of all the things he never finished? Michelangelo wanted to be known as a sculptor, but he became known as an artist. Raphael only lived to be 37, but look at all he did in such a short lifetime. My point is, anyone who really wants to can become a well known artist as long as they work hard at it. It's up to the individual to become great inside to know they are putting forth their best effort in what they do as an artist. To these people, it really doesn't matter what others think as long as they are doing the best work they can do.

Question: What's the difference between great idea and great execution? i've heard of the phrase "There is no such thing as a great idea. What you need is great EXECUTION."
any great mind out there cares to elaborate on what that means?
Answer: An idea lives in your head and isn't real until you actually do something about it. Execution is implementation of the idea, where you're actually doing something. Anyone can sit around dreaming up ways to make money or whatever and, unless they actually do something about it, it's pretty much useless.
Question: What are some great natural air fresheners that are organic and clean? Someone I don't know too well has the greatest smelling house. I didn't get a chance to ask and it'd be very odd to ask now. They have a lot of cucina products I think olive oil scents, if that makes sense.
I love organic lavendar, i suppose olive oil if that's what I'm thinking of scents. What are interesting ways to make your house smell great without using things like glad plug ins, I find them quite expensive and wasteful.
Answer: Two methods come to mind:
1) cook up your favorite foods, and enjoy the odor from those . . . its an old Realtor trick, for example, to bake up cookies before an open house, to supply both cookies and the cookie smell to people visiting
2) look into 'scent pots' which are little pots that stay warm, and you put oils into them to evaporate and provide a pleasant scent; I'm sure you can find or maybe even make a lavendar oil:

Hope that advice helps (or at least doesn't stink!).

The secret to losing weight is programming your brain into losing weight. Trust me, I have been trying to lose weight for years now and it's not till this summer that I finally dedicated myself to it. It's hard but if you really want to reach your goal, you'll reach it.

Question: What is a great affordable steak and how do you cook it at home? I am a great cook but, I always come up short in the steak department. As a kid I never had it and my mother never cooks it. I am trying to feed a family of four and would love to know what affordable great steak can I buy and how to cook it at home? Please help cause Im hungry.
Answer: The best cuts of meat are definitely the loin areas. These are your porterhouses and your filet mignons. These steaks are by far the most tasty and are by far the most expensive. If you really want the true steak experience, buy about three or four porterhouse steaks and slow cook them on the grill about 10 minutes at a very low heat (120-150 degrees). Do not char the outsides and keep the insides pink. You steak will come out delicious.
If you want a first time, cheaper steak experience, try buying a bone-in T-bone or NY strip. though still cut from the same area, it is a smaller steak and will cost you less. No matter what you choose, do not, i reapeat, do not overcook your steak. You will end up with a chewy, charred piece of meat. You might as well have purchased carne asada or beef jerky if you overcook it. Keep it rare and make some baked potatos and a nice bottle of merlot to compliment the taste.
Have fun.
