Led Strobes
Question: What can I wire 6 kc lights, 2 strobes, 2 police spotlights, and 6 led strobe systems together with? I'm in the Fire Dept and I need to wire 6 kc lights, 2 strobes, 2 police spotlights, and 6 led strobe systems together in my jeep cherokee. I guess I could use a terminal block but I don't know if I can wire an 8 or 10 guage wire pos and neg directly from my battery to the terminal block, then run a bunch of 16 and 18 gauge wires off the terminals? What type of block would let me do this, and would it overheat n catch fire if everything was running at once?
Answer: running all that you will need to put on a larger alternator you might think about putting in a second battery

Question: Auxiliary lighting law - LED red strobes? What is the law concerning after-market auxiliary lighting systems on vehicles in the UK? Having been told that my motorcycle appeared almost invisible from the rear when driving in fog and moderate spray, I have bought a pair of red LED ultrabright strobe strips (4.5 x 1 cm each). They flash in a similar way to the rear spray lights on F1 cars. I want to fit these either side of the rear light housing with an activation switch on the bars for driving in very poor visibility. Is this legal? Is it possible that I will get a fine for displaying such strobing lights? Thanks
Answer: It is against the law to to have red flashing lights on any vehicle, motorbike(accept rear of police bike, recovery vehicle) as the law states that red flashing lights are used to warn of a hazard ie stationry emergency vehicle, railway crossing and all that shite.
The Road Vehicles Lighting (Amendment) Regulations 2005 - covering flashing cycle lamps, was allowed for pedal bikes, which means those irritating flashing lights they have.
If you do fit them it is unlikley you will get a fine you will just get some dogering old fart of a police man stop you and say ya cant have them
Question: Where is it legal to use police colored strobes on a civilian vehicle? (TEXAS)? I did a little bit of amateur security for my friend's warehouse a while back, and still have RED/BLUE dash mounted LED strobes left over from then.
I know it is extremely illegal to have them on white driving on any public street. But where can I legally use them without getting in trouble?
Is it legal if your car is stationary on the street? On someone's private house drive way? Apartment complex parking lot? Store parking lot?
Thank you.
Answer: They would be illegal not only on public property, but also on private property that is open to the public. The fact your car is stationary is not relevant.
Question: Is it illegal to install led strobe lights in a private vehicle? I live in Texas so what are the laws here? Can i install them for my own personal use? I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and does any one know if the bulbs are the same size as the ones for the reverse lights? (cuz thats the only place i wanted to install and use them its when i reverse my vehicle in a parking lot or something)
Answer: ha i bet it is because white lights are for emergency vehicles aka our cops reverse lights flash here in iowa when u are getting pulled over but eh Worth a shot and if u get in trouble say u didn't know and take em out
Question: Can LEDs on a police lightbar replace strobes for intersection lights at night? Specifically, do LEDs have the same strobing effect on cars, windows, traffic signs, as strobe lights do? At night, strobe lights are extremely effective for advance warning on corners, and since I've never seen a police car or fire truck with LED lights, just strobes and rotators, I'm curious if the effect is still there with LEDs.
Answer: Our department also just recently switched to led's to replace the strobes on all of our patrol cars.I would have to say that they are much better, and efficient than the strobes. The led's are also much brighter, thus, you can see the lights from a farther distance.
Question: Which would be a brighter super LED combination for very bright daylight or fog conditions? Would a combination of red/white or yellow/white or yellow/yellow be more visible to approaching traffic to the rear of a stationary vehicle? I'm thinking of using a Whelen slimlighter super LED type rather than strobes concealed in taillights.
Answer: Yellow is the easiest to see.
Just so long as you don't go super bright on the front. I hate people who do this, because it just blinds the other drivers, making it MORE likely you'll get hit instead of less likely.
Question: where can i putchase led strobe lights? where in san bernardino can i purchase them?
Answer: A nice site where you can by LED strobe kit lights is http://www.strobe-kit.com
You can purchase other LED kits like under body light kits or scanner lights. Like with any site, look first and see if there are any coupons out there. I know this site has coupons at www.retailmenot.com
Question: Does strobe effect reduce the lifespan of a led flashlight? I have a led flash light (a nuflare rebel 90) and i was wondering if doing a strobe effect (switch it on and off real quick) or using it short busts at a time will reduce the lifespan of the flashlight? Or does it have the same effect compared to when its constantly lit?
Answer: if it does, its negligible. all you'll be doing is tiring out the fingers and slightly extending battery life.
regular light bulbs actually don't suffer from turning on/off rapidly frequently either, since nearly all lamps are designed to be used in the home with regular line frequency, the bulb filament is actually being turn on and off 120 times a second really, really quickly.
where ever you heard that turning on/off a lamp alot will reduce its working life time its an urban myth. its just not true.
actually, many quality LED flashlights (like a Surefire or Gerber) have a strobe function in their flashlights, the LED is guaranteed to last just as long as LEDs without the strobe feature. I have one such high end flashlight (aka "torch"), its an unregistered spin off from a Surefire tactical LED torch (saved me about $100- but still very expensive), the strobe effect actually extends battery life about 20% and doesn't reduce the LED working life whatsoever.

Question: Need LED blinking lights for Christmas Display? Ok, here's the deal. For Christmas, I have a large star that I made last year out of rope light and blinking lights that I put on the mast (pole) that holds my weather station. This year, I'm adding another additional star inside the big star made of blue lights to signify the son we are expecting in April. I also wanted to put a single LED flashing light in the smaller star for a heartbeat (and to piss off the neighbors... hee hee). My problem is this: I've bought a battery operated LED strobe light that you're supposed to use on a bike, while running, etc. The documentation says that the light will run for about 100 hours - not near enough for the christmas season. I want to figure out something that will let me power up the blinking LED's with the power that is already going to the lights on the star, but I can't find anything out there that is a AC powered LED blinker/strobe. I also can run DC up the pole if needed, say from a 6 volt lantern battery. Any ideas?
Answer: LEDs are DC only. You can put a diode in series with the AC. But check the voltage of the AC.
You could run up a separate DC supply.
I guess it uses AAA batteries. Why not use the same number of D cell batteries (as they are the same voltage and have much higher capacity). Solder wires to the terminals and wire into your flasher.
Question: making led taillights lights strobe or flash? We are looking to switch all the marker lights and tail lights on our tow truck to leds. If we do this we will not able to put conventional strobe kit in the light fixture itself. So do they sell any kind of relay you can wire in to make the lights flash. I would like to use the existing lights(6 inch oval truck lights) already there and not add anymore lights to the truck. What are my options?
Answer: sounds very simple to accomplish.
Question: Where can I find the brightest LED that will work on a 12V Car battery? I want to create my own custom lighting in my vehicle. Mostly I want strobe lights because I am a DOT employee and frequently work on the side of the roadway or assist straded motorists. I would like to use low power, high output LED to create the strobing effect. Where can I get/purchase these at the lowest possible cost and best possible value?
Answer: Has just as much to do with the reflector and lens as the LED and what it is surrounded by. Get me the most expensive LED you find, and I'll reflect from foil and transmit through lexan - it will be junk.
Why re-invent the wheel. Google FEDERAL SIGNAL DEVICE. They provide the majority of lights for your units.
