More Veggies
Question: How to include more veggies, protein fruits in my diet as a vegetarian? I've been a vegetarian for about a year, and it's has been really difficult for me to find simple ways to eat more veggies, fruits and protein in my diet. Lately I've been eating a lot of pasta, but I haven't gained any weight (which is a good thing). Yet, now summer has arrived, and I was wondering how to make my vegetarian diet a bit healthier so I could lose about (10 to 15 pounds).
Answer: This one page article has 5 very simple tips that may help you to shed weight......

Question: how do I get my 3 year old to eat more veggies? My 3 year old used to LOVE veggies, broccoli, and peas, and many more but he won't eat them anymore, he refuses to even look at his plate if there are veggies on them. Any suggestions?
Answer: One good one is most children love pasta so when you make the sauce do the usual tin of tomatoes onion garlic tomato puree etc but you can add Pretty much anything to it carrots broccoli ETC then just blend it up and mix it in with the pasta!
another idea that has worked with mine is a sticker chart explain that if they eat what is on there plate (very small amount at first then slowly add more) they get a sticker then if they get say 3 stickers they can choose a treat, it could be chocolate or small toy from a grab bag ETC.
NEVER let them have pudding if they don't eat whats on there plate (if your worried they will be hungry then give them a glass of milk before bed)
A great book is green eggs and ham by dr Seuss I read that to my children and when they don't want to try something new I quote some of that to them and they usually try a taste!
Good luck :)
Also just to let you know a portion for a child is meant to be the size of the palm of there hand. most doctors or health visitors would say don't look at what he's had in a day but what he's had over a week :)
Question: How to eat more veggies that I can buy and make myself? I'm in college, and I'm trying to stay on a food budget - but I need to start eating more veggies because I'm definitely not getting enough. I'm not sure which ones to buy and how to prepare them the most efficient way. Can anyone help me? I'm only getting maybe 1 serving of veggies a day...and that's from some lettuce and carrots that I throw together in a salad :(
Answer: MINESTRONE SOUP!! you can put like any vegetables in it.. my mom usually puts in cabbage, onions, potatoes, tomatoes, celery, carrots, zucchini, and then for protein she puts in red kidney beans or mixed beans and sometimes beef chunks...it tastes awesome and you don't really realize how many servings you actually get from it!! it fills u up too!!
Question: How to make veggies more appealing to my husband? We are trying to increase the amount of veggies we are eating but my husband only really likes corn, carrots and lettuce. I want to include more variety but last night when we had string beans he had to force them down with disgust(his face was priceless!) Anyway, I want to find ways to make other veggies such as string beans, peas, cucumbers, broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus and so on be more appealing to him. Any tips?
Answer: cucumbers sliced with lime juice and salt you can also slice some radishes and onion tomato and throw in but i like it with just cucumber lime and salt i also put veggies in the processor like zucchini and carrots and add them to ground meat and they will never know it is there cheese on broc and caulif always works in my house i like the the yellow things they look like zucchini i cant think of the name i know you know what i am thinking of it is right next to the zucchini well i slice that thin melt butter and brown the butter a little then cook it in the butter till soft add a little salt and it will have a little nutty flavor good luck some just dont like veggies i was lucky my hubby loves them but my sisters hubby will not eat ANY veggies not a good example for the kids but i guess some are like that also when i make rice i add tomatos onion carrots peas cilantro and if i have it i will also add broc green beans potatos you can put any kind of veggies in and it is great that is the only way my hubby eats peas
Question: How do you make your veggies more tasty? I love veggies, but honestly I have gotten bored with them. I want to eat more since I am trying to lose weight. I want to know some specific ways to make them more interesting that are low cal. Two things that I do already are put lemon-pepper seasoning on my green beans and broccoli; and I sauté spinach and garlic together.
Answer: A light splash of vinaigrette dressing or balsamic vinegar added to steamed veggies such as cauliflower or brocolli will perk up the taste with minimal calorie damange. For a more intense flavor, marinate crisp-tender green beans, slivers of red onion, and strips of green pepper in the vinaigrette dressing, and garnish with slivered toasted almonds.
You can sprinkle a little Parmesan cheese and a dab of butter over green veggies to make them more flavorful and still be healthy. Experiment with adding a little teriakyi or soy sauce to your cooked vegetables, too.
Also, don't forget grilling or baking vegetables. Take a square of heavy duty aluminum foil and place any or all of the following in the center: a peeled and quartered potato, chunks of peeled carrot, some slices of red or green pepper, a few mushrooms, some slivers of red onion, and a few small brocolli or cauliflower florets.
Dot with butter and season lightly with salt and pepper. Fold the foil up into a tight package and either bake at 350 degrees or grill over a medium flame until done, turning frequently on the grill. This can be a vegetarian meal in itself with the addition of some breadsticks and/or fruit.
Question: How can I make fruits and veggies more appealing? I really, really want to start eating more healthy. But I'm just not that keen on fruits or veggies (If I had to pick, I'd pick veggies). Does anyone have ANY suggestions on how to make them more appealing, but still be healthy?
I should add, I'm a terrible cook.
Answer: I love marinating asparagus in a little balsamic vinegar, oil, salt, and pepper and then I throw them on the grill. Sauteed green beans with butter or oil, garlic, and chili flakes is easy and delicious. Make a veggie curry with cauliflower, carrots, poptatoes if you want, peas, coconut milk, and tofu. You can throw that over some rice and chow down. Berries with yogurt, granola, and a little honey is a great snack. I personally LOVE fruit; I eat more than enough servings a day. Maybe you just need to find fruits you like. Frozen grapes and peaches are also very refreshing and different. For breakfast you could make some crepes or pancakes and fill them with fruit like peaches, berries, or bananas.
Question: How can I get myself to eat veggies more often? I really hate veggies - and no I'm not 10! I'm 21 and I only have about 1 serving a day at supper. I do eat a lot of fruit, though.
How can I prepare veggies (any recipes) or get myself in the habit of eating them more often?
Last year I ended up working myself up to 4 servings, but that made me nauseated from them.
Yep, I like salad.
Answer: Don't try so hard.
Take a good vitamin-mineral to supplement the lack of veggies. Check out the "One A Day" brand. Be sure to eat a little something before taking any vitamin-minerals. They may make you feel a little bad if taken on an empty stomach.
Find one or two veggies that you like and eat them once per day.
Eat tossed salads or coleslaw if you like them.
Or drink 6 oz of V-8 Juice per day as a snack.
Or drink 6 oz of Fusion each day for a snack.
Remember the two B's and the two C's for healthy eating if you like them:
Broccoli,
Brussels sprouts,
Cauliflower,
Cabbage.
The first three are good heated with melted cheese poured over them.
Or you can dip them in cheese uncooked.

Michael Angelo's Eggplant Parmesan frozen dinner is delicious. You will think you are only eating melted cheese in an Italian sauce.
Question: How do I eat more veggies when I physically cannot eat them? Mostly veggies that are green and onions. I cannot eat any of them. I will physically throw up if I taste them. I think I have some kind of intolerance or allergy.
What can I do?
If I have an allergy there is nothing they can do for me. So why see the doctor??????????????????????????
Please tell me a nutrient you can get from vegetables that you cannot get from fruit, grains, seeds, nuts, legumes, etc..
Answer: If you have an allergy there _is_ something they can do for you. Allergies, especially food allergies, can be treated, so get to your doctor and let him help you.
Question: Why do kids tend to like fruit more then veggies? I always watch the V8 commercials and it says that the veggies taste like fruit so kids will like them more. Same thing I see in some juice box commercials. Why is that?
Answer: sweetness
Question: what is a good, simple way to incorperate more veggies into my daily diet? I'm a fairly healthy eater (don't care for junk foods or soda) and i've been a vegetarian for almost two years. I like veggies, i just don't seem to eat them often and i feel like i'm lacking essential nutrients. Please, help by giving tips, recipes, anything.
Answer: I have been a vegetarian for three years now. I generally eat a lot of pastas and carbs, because I too find it difficult to incorporate vegetables into a lot of meals. Isn't that funny that being a vegetarian it's still hard to eat enough vegetables? haha.
Here are some very fast and very cheap recipes I use from time to time:
1. I personally LOVE to steam broccoli, squash and asparagus for about 10 minutes and grate sharp cheddar cheese on top with salt, pepper, and a bit of garlic powder.
2. Vegetable soup with a cheese sandwich is always a nice choice. You can buy some really nice vegetarian vegetable soups, but be careful to make sure it doesn't have beef in it, as some "vegetable" soups do.
3. I make a mean fried rice. Pick up a pack of fried rice seasoning from the asian section of your grocery store. Cook about 3-4 cups of COOKED rice (so like 2 cups or so of dry rice), beat up 3 eggs, dice up about 4-5 stems of green onions, and cook 1 cup of frozen peas. Also have some soy sauce and olive oil on hand. Heat up some olive oil in a pan and put your cooked rice into the skillet with the chopped green onions. Stir fry this until the onions start to look just a little brown. Add the packet of seasoning and dash some soy sauce in with it, I generally put about 1/4 a cup or so, but you might like more or less. Stir fry this for a minute or so, just to mix it in. Push the rice to the side and scramble your eggs (I usually salt, pepper, and garlic powder the eggs while I beat them, and put a spoonful of butter in the skillet to pour them on top of.). Mix in the scrambled eggs with the rice and then add the cooked frozen peas (to cook the peas you just put them in a microwave safe bowl and put in a little butter, salt, pepper and garlic powder). Mix this all up and add some salt, pepper and garlic powder if you'd like. You might need to add more soy sauce, just taste it and see what you think. This is an excellent recipe, I promise you will love it.
4. Shells and tomato juice: Tomato juice is a very good source of the nutrients we need from vegetables. Steaming them tends to take away their value, so tomato juice is great here. Buy a box or bag of shells (not small or large, just the regular ones) and cook them, then get a can of tomato juice (my parents can me some every year, but the store bought is decent). Cook the pasta, drain, put over the tomato juice. Salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste. I usually use a lot of garlic powder here. This goes great with a bit of garlic or texas toast. If you are like me you can just toast regular bread and just add butter and garlic powder haha.
5. Vegetarian chili: Get a medium size pot and mix in 1 large can of tomatoes. You can use diced, but I prefer the larger chunks. Mix in a can of tomato juice. Add one can of black beans, and one can of kidney beans. Add a packet of chili powder. Serve with crackers or fritos and sharp cheddar.
Question: How can i get my guinea pig to eat more veggies? I have two male guinea pigs, both only eat fruits. They don't touch their veggies. Sometimes i give them a small bowl of fruits and vegetables. They only eat the fruit. How can i get them to like vegetables?
Answer: Starve them and when they are desperate for food, give them veggies. I know it's a cruel method, but it might just work.
Question: How do I include more veggies in my diet? I love fruit and eat enough already but I get bored with the same things when it comes to veggies!!
Answer: Start to have them as snacks during the day - usually raw and sometimes with dips. So try chopping up carrots, celery, cucumber and taking them to work / school in a small container as a snack. Do the same with fruit to make it a little different. Make sure every evening meal you have has at least 2 vegetables with it and at least one at lunch time or a salad and you'll be really healthy
Question: How can I get my son to eat more veggies? He Loves his oatmeal and raisins and bananas and fruit and mac and cheese and meat (chicken) and crackers and graham crackers and cereal but not the veggies. Not brocoli, or carrots or celery. :(
Hes only one.
Answer: He's only 1 so don't worry just yet. Kids go through these phases off and on. You can sneak some veggies in. Sometimes I add a jar of pureed cauliflower or squash to my son's mac n cheese. You can hide pureed food in most anything...even desserts like brownies! Find something in a similar color scheme that won't change the taste too much and sneak it in. But even when you do that I would put veggies on the tray for him. He may not eat them but keep offering and one day he will pick one up and eat it. Just don't make a big issue out of it. Good luck!
Question: How to get my 3 year old to eat more veggies? I've bought several cook books in the past to appeal to my son's tastebuds with little evidence of success. The problem: vegetables (primarily)! I have had a few hits but mostly misses. I would like to introduce new recipes before he tires of old ones completely.
What's worked thus far:
Campbell's Healthy Choice soups (unexplicably works for now)
Omlette sandwiches (finely chopped veggies)
Pasta with Spaghetti sauces (again with the fine chopped vegs)
For now we suppliment with Pediasure but I hope not forever.
FYI - Cooked or raw, veggies on their own he will not eat, this includes mashed potatoes. He will try now and again but usually there's gagging and throwing up involved.
Answer: If your son is eating vegetables in the form o0f the soup..and sauces etc, you are doing much better than many parents!
It is very normal for kids to just stick to what they like for a long time before trying any thing else. SO, he eats soup at alot.or had spag and sauce alot...even if it is every day at every meal..relax..he is eating very healthy!..there is no need to supplement with pedisure at all.
Fresh fruit is very healthy to.
but with his favourite dishes, maybe offer him a different veggie to go with what he has. Don't force it..but eat it yourself, and go on about how yummy it is. If he refuses..oh well...no big deal...he is eating healthy now..he is not looking out on anything.
Eventually..and be warned, it might be in like 3 years or so!!!..he might want to try something new..or he might want to try ti next week..just relax..don't make eating a stressful big deal..it should be relaxing..and enjoyable.
Question: How do I incorporate more veggies into my diet? im 14, but i want to eat healthier than i am right now because i know i dont get enough veggies, but instead eat a lot of meat, dairy, etc. im not sure why but i always gag when i have cooked vegetables, so i prefer eating raw ones, such as in salad. but i dont know if thats enough nutrients? if i would have to eat cooked vegetable i will, but i really feel like i will barf when i do, any suggestions? celery sticks are okay for me but i want other ideas. thanks!
Answer: One thing I've done --- i've entirely stopped drinking soda, coffee, tea or any drinks containing caffeine or corn syrup and substituted some of the new V8 Fusion - Blended vegetable/fruit juices. They are really good (and i hate the original "V8" juice but the blenders are excellent). Walmart has them for a lot cheaper than I've found them in Kroger or Publix. There are lots of varieties. My favorite is the mango peach blend.
Question: Can eating more veggies then normal cause you to have stomach problems? I've started a different diet, because I'm trying to lose weight for my wedding. I've been eating a lot more veggies like...lettuce, green pepper, celery, carrots and fruit. Can this cause me to have more gas and make my stomach feel kind of funny?
Answer: Yup - just take some over the counter anti-gas medication until your body gets used to it and you will be fine. Good luck on your diet and congrats on your upcoming wedding!
