Nutrition Spray
Question: Do gravel keep nutrition from draining away from soil? I am having an aquarium with volcanic soil only.
I try to plant some aquatic plant like glossostigma.
However, most of them withered only two survived.
Everyday, I spray liquid fertilizer for my aquarium since its cheaper
than aquarium specialized fertilizer.
I started to wondering why most aquarium have gravel on top of soil.
Does gravel keep the fertilizer or nutrition trapped in soil?
What are the function of putting gravel on top of soil?
Answer: it makes it look "better" in an aquarium.
it has nothing to do with holding nutrients (gravel is very bad at that) the soil holds the nutrients (clay is best, but it clouds the water.
Question: how many calories does a 20 second PAM spray have? I'm just wondering. On the nutrition facts it says 0 for 1 second spray, but when i go to their website they show someting with calories and fat. PLease some help here
Answer: This is a very deceptive thing that the food companies can do with their labeling. If they make the serving size really small to the point where lets say the fat content for the serving is 0.5g, the government allows them to round down the number to 0g. So they can call a product that contains 100% calories from fat a fat free product. If you want to see a real serving size for the PAM spray, check this site http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts-C00001-01c22XH.html You can choose a real serving size, like one ounce and see the calories and fat.
Question: does cooking spray have calories? on the nutrition facts it says like .25 grams which isn't very much has 0 calories. i'm wondering if you were to use some on say a whole onion or something how many it would have
Answer: Yes, cooking spray has calories (not to mention all kinds of other crap). Cooking spray is one of those "boy have we pulled the wool over consumers' eyes" that manufacturers came up with. Sounds great -- zero calories!!!! -- when in reality you're getting as much or more than using a vegetable or olive or nut oil.
Food labels are allowed to say "zero calories from fat" if the amount of fat per serving is less than 1 gram, even though this is an untruth. There are 9 calories per gram of fat, so .25 grams means 2.25 calories per serving.
However, bear in mind that "the average consumer" actually uses 3 to 6 times the "serving size" as stated on the label, that
means your calories would be 7 to 14 calories.
Better to rub a little Walnut or Olive oil on your onion or cookware -- same calories from fat by amount used, but these are GOOD fat calories containing Omega 3 and other nutrients...and none of the artificial ingredients and propellants. Use a paper towel, dab some oil on it, and rub your food or your cookware -- you'll use WAY less oil than if you spray.
Anyone who says "yay, cooking spray," has bought the advertising BS and has had the wool pulled over their eyes...and they obviously have never had any basic nutrition or cooking courses.
Take a look at the other ingredients in cooking spray...then compare the ingredients in olive oil or even a vegetable oil. Hmmmm....what actually are those ingredients? If you must use a spray, use PAM with canola. But...that propellant...some oils come out and tell you that the propellant they use is PROPANE, and propane is what I use for my stove, and not something I want in my body.
Question: What is the truth about "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" Spray? Is it REALLY Fat-Free, Calorie-Free, Guilt free???? I mean, if I consume an entire bottle, what effect does it have nutritionally? I really want to know the truth. I just don't believe the nutrition label is being honest.
Answer: Just look at the ingredients, I'm guessing it looks like a chemistry formula lol. That probably isn't good for your body
Smart balance is the best spread I have come across (though it is not calorie or fat free)
Question: How can I stop my dogs from pulling out their fur? My family has three dogs. A large black german shephard who has sight problems, a very old britany spanial and a 2 year old shih tzu.The two larger dogs spend most of their time out side and the shih tzu is about 50/50 (inside/outside) They all eat the same type dogfood, stay in the same yard and use the same shampoo and flee and tick prevention. My problem is the to larger outside dogs are constantly pulling the fur off their backs and we have no idea why. We suspected thats flees were the problem so we changed their flee prevention and shampoo and even sprayed the entire 5 acre lot with flee spray. That did nothing. Then we read that it could be caused by poor nutrition causing the skin to dry out and itch so we bought a higher grade dog food and that also did nothing.What has us so baffled is that it has only effected the two larger dogs, not the shih tzu. We do know that the dogs' skin is extremly dry. What are some other options to soothe the dry skin and help their coats?
Answer: It could be a number of reasons. One of the more probable reasons would be allergies. You can ask the vet for antihistamines or if those don't work you could try allergy testing.
Also, with the flea treament -- if you are using a topical treatment, such as Advantage or Frontline, you do not need to use a flea shampoo. And, you shouldn't give a bath two days before or two days after applying the treatment.
I agree, you should bring them into the vet.
****In response to the answer below me -- it is not recommended to use human shampoo on animals. They are often too harsh and dry out the pet's skin and make it worse. If you must, you can use diluted baby shampoo but make sure to rinse very well. Also, only bathe as little as you have to. Once a month at most. Frequent bathing also dries out the skin and can make their skin condition worse.****

so my question is.. my mom and i are making some eggs for our family.. we want to use this.. will it work and taste good even tough it's butter flavor?
and... how many sprays should i add?
is it really healthy? I mean,, it says it has 0 calories and it's "natural flavor"..i know it's not "healthy" but is it bad? does it have any hidden things in there?
we are all trying to loose weigth and we've been staying away from grease and fried stuff.. but we really want to make eggs for lunch today... will it work?
HELP! any information is good! thanks!
Answer: Well, it does have chemical additives, so if you wanted to be healthy, I'd recommend using just a tiny bit of a butter spread (like Smart Balance). These are actually healthy combinations of different oils that taste like butter. So, they're a great alternative to the saturated fat in butter. But, don't be afraid to use a little butter in moderation. It's ok as long as you don't go overboard.

Question: Can you determine the nutrition facts of a cookie with the recipe? Can anyone out there can tell me an estimate of the nutrtion facts (calories, carbs, fat) of the following recipe? I will also be grateful for some instructions on how to calculate them, so that I can do it myself with other recipes as well. Thank you!
Healthy Oatmeal Cookies (with Honey)
Dry ingredients
•1 cup whole wheat flour
•1 1/2 cups of Large Flake Rolled Oats
•1/2 tsp baking soda
•1/2 tsp baking powder
•1/2 tsp salt
•2 Tbsp Cinnamon
•1/2 tsp Nutmeg (optional)
Wet ingredients
•1/2 cup honey
•1/2 cup oil (corn, grapeseed or olive)
•1 egg (beat with 1 Tbsp Water)
•1 tsp Vanilla
Preparation:
1.In a large bowl, mix all the dry ingredients together.
2.In a medium bowl, mix all the wet ingredients together. Hint: when measuring out the honey, spray the measuring cup with oil or baking spray--your honey won't stick).
3.Mix the wet stuff with the dry stuff. Add the raisins and walnuts and mix. If the mixture seems too wet, add a bit of flour. If it isn't binding together very well, you may wish to add an egg white.
4.COOL the mix for 20 minutes in the fridge.
5.Preheat the oven to 335 degrees (lower temperature due to the honey in the recipe which will burn more easily).
6.Drop by teaspoonfuls onto your baking sheet (I recommend lining the baking sheet with parchment paper). Press down with a fork to ensure even cooking.
7.Bake for about 15 - 20 minutes or until golden on the bottom of the cookie. The cookies freeze very well and make a great snack! Enjoy.

Question: Extra nutrition for budgie pair with their first baby? My pair just had their first baby hatch yesterday and are feeding it well. Hopefully the other three eggs will hatch in the days to come. I'd like to know what other foods might help them raise their babies successfully. They have a fortified seed mix and of course fresh water, spray millet etc but is there anything else? I've put fresh fruit and veggies in for them before but the only thing they'll touch is leaf lettuce. Anyone have any sugestions? Other than the cuttlebone they have, how do I increase the calcium for the hen?
Thanks
Answer: The best source of extra nutrition is soaked sprouting seed,
Soak some of the seed in warm water over night ,drain ,rinse .place somewhere warm ,till it sprouts(2-3 days)rinse and when it starts to sprout feed it to your birds right through the rearing period,
Don't give them lettuce leaf it is "Not" good for them,you would be better giving them a little Broccoli.
Broccoli is also a good source of calcium but don't give up the Cuttlebone.
Question: a great cookie recipe? These pumpkin chocolate chip cookies are a great, healthy alternative to traditional chocolate chip cookies.
They aren't exactly a diet food, but these pumpkin cookies are chock full of nutrition. Be sure to use the white whole wheat flour, rather than regular whole wheat flour. It's lighter and makes a tastier, more cake-like cookie.
Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies
* 1 cup canned pumpkin puree
* 1/2 cup brown sugar
* 1/2 cup white sugar
* 1/2 cup butter or trans-fat-free margarine
* 1 egg
* 1 tsp. baking soda
* 1 tsp. milk
* 1/2 cup white whole wheat flour
* 1-1/2 cups unbleached white flour
* 2 tsp. baking powder
* 1/2 tsp. salt
* 1-1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
* 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
* 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
* 1 Tbsp. pure vanilla extract
* 1 cup semisweet or dark chocolate chips
* 3/4 cup chopped walnuts
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray two cookie sheets with nonstick spray. In a large bowl, cream together pumpkin, sugars, butter and egg. In a small dish, dissolve baking soda into milk. Set aside. In a separate bowl, stir together flours, baking powder, salt and spices. Add baking soda mixture to flour mixture.
Add flour mixture to pumpkin mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix or the batter will get tough. Add vanilla extract, chocolate chips and walnuts. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto prepared cookie sheets. Bake 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned.

Question: Want to get rid of your allergies? Health and nutrition products featured on "How to live to 100" for sale I'm selling health products featured on the news story "How to live to 100."The best selling product is called OPC-3, a powerful anti-oxidant.What makes this product unique is that the body absorbs it isotonically.This means that the body has less work to do to in obtaining maximum absorption.The isotonic state of the suspension allows nutrients to pass directly into the small intestine and be rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream.With Isotonix products, little nutritive value is lost, making the absorption of nutrients highly efficient while delivering maximum results.If you are tired of spending money on pills, sprays and powders to clear your allergies, this might be a product worth trying.Unlike most allergy medications, which simply suppress symptoms, this one elevates immunoglobin levels, effectively "curing" allergies.I personally had severe allergies to many environmental toxins, and after using this product my allergies are gone. Email me at [email protected] for more info.

Question: I have questions, my baby grey comes home tomorrow? I was told to keep her in her cage the first day. I disag Also, I was told the she should be in her cage most of the day, 20 min. out in the morn, 20 in the afternoon and a 20 min. before bed. Anymore than that will cause her to have cage issues. Do you believe that? She has a pellet mixture (Zieglers & Higgins pellets) for the day, veggie mix for night. What do you think of the diet? I was told I can give her some fresh veggies and a small piece of fruit each day. In the afternoon she can have a piece of spray millet. This is what she's been eating. She still gets one syringe of baby food at night. I'd like to get her eating an all organic diet as described in Alicia McWatters, "A Guide to a Naturally Healthy Bird: Nutrition, Feeding, and Natural Healing Methods for Parrots." Heard any good things about her approach? My baby grey has been off antibiotics since Monday. Should she see an avian Vet before bringing her home or should I give her some time to get acclimated to her new home first? I just want to do the best or her. Thanks
Answer: Our Congo was out in the morning, and again all evening as a baby, as soon as he feathered out, with several noon 'nap' hours. He wasn't allowed to roam freely because we knew he needed discipline to be safe, but we think that outside stimulation made him more of a family bird. He's two now, and we can lay him on his back and cover his breast bone in raspberry kisses, and tickle him, and hang him from one finger while kissing his beak. He knows how to have fun in his cage, and he does not have a squawking problem. It seems like lots of people think that birds must be treated a little icily, but you and I know that we wouldn't treat a child like that, and a bird deserves no different.
Pellets prevent favorite food picking. We use them like they're a dish full of Flintstones vitamins. We offer a moist meals a few times a day -- eggs for breakfast, veggies or fruit for lunch, and for dinner some pasta, or well-cooked meat. There's a Hahns eating cheese ravioli on my shoulder right now. The Healthy Bird Cookbook is full of good recipes.
Bringing her home and a vet visit can both mean high stress, , but getting them all out of the way the same day is almost a must. Breeders don't always play by the book, and sometimes they just don't know. You sound like a great parent, to research your babies this much, so I think you can use your judgement just fine.
Question: Is this a cold, flu, or something else? Also, need advice on healing!? About 14 days ago I all the sudden started noticing my throat get scratchy, which progressed to all out hurting, which progressed to a headache, and general body heaviness, and chest pressure. I went to the docs who put me on ZPAK, and some nasal spray. 4-5 days later, the heaviness/throat pain and chest pressure went away, and then progressed to this full blown head cold with extremely runny nose, whiich ran every 10 seconds, or so, extreme headache, glossy/watery eyes, facial pressure and pain, and lots of sneezing and some coughing. As the days progressed, I went back to the docs who gave me levaquin (an antibiotic) which i DID NOT take yet, thinking what I have is viral.
Anyways the last few days I've started to feel a bit better, but whatever this is was horrid and knocked me out big time, and I completely lost my intellectual reasoning! I could NOT think!
Colds aren't usually this bad, so what is this. BAD cold? Flu?
what's the BEST way to heal? Sleep? nutrition?
Well, body heaviness is a sensation that makes you feel weak and your body feels like it weighs a ton, guess you never had that symptom?
Also, my doc never said he didnt THINK it was viral, he just gave me an antibiotic like candy.
I'll still prolly take it but I've had viral infections in my life and think I can realize one from not.
Answer: Lots of rest, copious amounts of fresh orange juice and water, light soups such as chicken and vegies and cut out the sugary and white foods if you can.
Also, go get yourself a powdered form of vitamin C with bioflavonoids in it from the health food store. Take 4 - 5000mg per day (4 - 5 teaspoons) ie: 1 teaspoon mixed with water every couple of hours, until your symptoms disappear. Vitamin C's effectiveness is increased in the presence of Zinc, like 10 fold !!! Soooooooooo eat more foods rich in Zinc as well ie: seafoods, pumpkin seeds, lean red meats, poultry and legumes (peas, beans and lentils).
Vitamin C, Zinc, Iron too and the B complex of vitamins to help your body deal with the extra stress its been under with the virus you've had. Go get yourself a good quality B complex supplement including all the B's as they work best together. As the B group of vitamins is a water soluble group our bodies can neither produce or store them so we need to ingest them on a daily basis or suffer the consequences !! ............ symptoms of B vitamin deficiency - headaches and migraines, nausea and vomiting, irritability and moodiness, inability to concentrate, depression, constipation, insomnia, dizzy spells, inability to concentrate, loss of balance, excessive sweating, numbing and prickling and tingling sensations in the outer extremities and even chest pains and heart palpitations !! Not pretty hey ............ foods rich B group of vitamins are leafy and green vegies, wholegrains and cereals, milk and dairy, nuts and seeds.............. :0)
