Question: How to get RDA for calcium when allergic to milk/milk products? I'm allergic to milk, so I get my RDA of cacium from fortified orange juice, broccoli, and my multivitamin. However, I am getting sores in my mouth from all of the acid in the juice and I'm sick of broccoli. Any suggestions of how I can get my RDA (1000mg) for calcium?

Find a doctor in your area. I've gotten rid of numerous allergies and gotten my health back. I go to a doctor an hour and a half away and it's well worth it. In the beginning I went fairly often, but I was REALLY sick with all kinds of allergies and immune disorders. Now I go once every couple of months. No drugs. An allergy can be cleared within 24 hours. I couldn't drink milk, eggs, etc... I was actually allergic to a vitamin/mineral, that was in all these products.
Question: Is it unsafe to take a daily supplement which contains 100% of the RDA for iron? I'm a vegetarian, and so as to make sure I'm getting enough iron, I take a supplement which contains 100% of the RDA. Other foods I eat which (I think) contain iron are All Bran, kidney beans and black eyed beans. Is this safe?
Answer: Iron is not excreted. The iron you absorb stays and accumulates except for the one milligram you lose daily through hair, finger nails, skin cells and other detritus. Unless you're pregnant or have been diagnosed with an absorption difficulty, like anemia, that is the amount needed every day- one milligram. One serving of beans has more than that.
Even a small amount of excess iron can damage the heart and brain, and lead to heart attack or stroke.
Question: can i use my RDA certificate in states other than California? I was told my RDA (registered dental assistant) certificate was only good in California and other states require a CDA (certified dental assistant) certificate. does anyone know if this is true? Im planning on moving into another state.
Answer: Which state are you moving to? You should ask the dental commission in that state. NY and Ohio require the CDA.
Question: Is a person weighs 200 pounds what is their RDA for protein? Just trying to confirm my answer, if the RDA for protein is .8mg per KG, how many grams of protein should they get each day?
Sorry, the question isn't about me, it's for my Nutrition class. I just want to make sure I know how to calculate the equation right.
Answer: For an active person, your protein intake should be one gram per pound of bodyweight.
Question: Is there a set of foods which 100% fulfill the RDA? On most food packets they include what percentage of the RDA they are, is there a set of foods, which give you 100% of your RDA?
If so, what?
Answer: Don't think so, I know theres a packet diet where they provide you with all the food your meant to eat but that contains about a 3rd of the RDA cos the idea is to lose weight.
Multivitamin supplements can have 100% of the vitamins RDA in.
Wouldn't it be easier if there was, just eat one thing a day. :-)
Question: What is the RDA intake of iron in teenagers? I have to fiind out 44% of my RDA intake of iron but I don't know what it is. Any ideas?
Answer: Anemia is a condition that occurs when you don't have enough healthy red blood cells. This is a problem, because without the right amount of healthy red blood cells, enough oxygen doesn't get into your body. This causes people with anemia to look pale, and often feel weak and tired. The most common causes are not getting enough iron or losing too much iron from heavy menstrual periods. Your health care provider may recommend a multivitamin with iron if it seems like you are not getting enough iron from foods. If you are already anemic, your health care provider will probably suggest an iron supplement.
How much iron do I need?
Iron is measured in milligrams. The amount you need depends on your age, gender, body size, and lifestyle. In general, though, you can use these guidelines to determine how much iron you need.
Girls age 9-13: 8 mg/day
Girls age 14-18: 15 mg/day
What foods are rich in iron?
Good sources of iron include red meat, eggs, poultry, fish, legumes (or beans), and fortified cereals. It is important to know that your body absorbs iron from animal sources (known as "heme" iron) more easily than it absorbs iron from plant sources (known as "non-heme" iron).
Question: Who designates the RDA for vitamins and what is it based on? Furthermore, neglecting Vitamin A, are there any suspected harmful effects of taking well beyond the RDA?
Answer: RDA is Recommended Daily Allowance, an amount determined by a committee of food scientists and nutritionists as a good mix for the average person.
For water-soluable vitamins, like C, if you take too much, the body just flushes them away in the urine.
The best solution is to get your vitamins from what you eat and from food-based nutritional supplements. If it's a blended food product designed to boost total health, it's hard to overdose, even exceeding daily Vitamin A levels. (If you're taking vitamins as a pill or liquid, be careful not to exceed daily dosage amounts.)

Question: How to find RDA for Cholesterol, sugar and carbohydrates? i can't find singapore rda that has fats, cholestrol, sugar and carbohydrates
Answer: There is no USDA RDA for cholesterol, sugar or carbohydrates, nor for most fats.
Question: What would I have to eat to get 100% RDA in a day? I keep hearing supplements are not sufficient to supply 100% RDA. Yet when I look on most product labels, only the multivitamins have 100% of most vitamins/minerals. If I wanted a life with out supplements, what would my diet consist of? If I wanted life with no food, why are these supplements not good enough(include Whey protein in supplement package)?
Answer: Without supplements you should eat a varied diet high in nutrient dense foods, as has been done for millennia, before modern nutritional science. Awareness of basic nutrition is helpful, and you can always take a multi-vitamin/mineral as insurance.
What supplements lack, assuming macronutrients are accounted for, are phytonutrients and delivery of nutrients in certain synergistic combinations. Scrambling together a concoction of dietary constituents can't compete with evolution. At least not yet. Nutrition is actually still a very young science.
Question: Why does the ingredients in multivitamins contain so much more than the daily RDA?
And if the rest is excreted in the urine, whats the use in putting in so much anyway?
Answer: They contain more because you only absorb 20 to 25% of a solid. 25% if they are of superior quality. Liquid is absorbed instantly. Go to http;//ralphcox.vemma.com and read about what a ultra premium supplement will do for you.
Question: How much semi-skimmed milk do I have to drink before I have reached my RDA of protein? I am a 23 year old male, if this makes a difference.
Answer: Don't supplement on your protein intake with milk. You'll get far too much calcium and screw your heart up after a few years by depleting your magnesium supply. Do yourself a favour and just crack open a can of Tuna and fork that into your mouth. There's about 25g's of protein in a can and that's about the right amount your body can at one time assimilate. Enjoy.
