Question: How to find a summer set design job for a high school student? During the summer I would like to work backstage at a set design type job. Without any direct connections how can I find a job like such preferably with some pay?
I am definitely not thinking of upscale set designs such as Broadway plays but maybe summer theater camps that need set work done. Do such summer jobs even exist? I hope.
I am interested in design, mostly interior. Any suggestions of interesting job or intern type of things I can do during the summer?
I am 15 years old and live outside of NYC.
Answer: If there is a community theater in your area, volunteer there. Or your local community college. You may not get paid, but if you do that this summer, you can put something on a resume and maybe get paid next summer.
Question: What summer clothes are in at your school? Just doing a little survey type thing. So now that it's almost summer, what summer clothes seem to be most popular at your school? At my school it's flowered tank tops (like the kind you get at Abercrombie or Hollister), sundresses, flip flops, and jean miniskirts. Obviously people wear more types of clothes than those, but these are just the main things that are in this year. What about you?
Answer: hmm well right now its pretty windy but when its superr hot thee girls at my highschool usually wear:
bottoms:
-denim skirts
-denim shorts
-plaid shorts
-some people wear bermudas but only a couple.
-skinny jeans
-short dresses/long shirts w/ leggings
tops:
-those flowerd tanks like you said.
-tunics/short dresses
-babydoll tops
-regular tees
-graphic tees
shoes
-flats
-flip flops
-those gladiator sandals
hmm and thats pretty much it.
Question: Why does the summer blockbuster season start in the begining of May when really summer starts in June? I am asking this simply becuase every year the ''summer'' blockbuster movie season starts off in May but why each season has three months right? so shouldn't the ''summer movie blockbuster season start in June?
Answer: My guess is the same reason as to why the Christmas decorations and adverts start in november. So that the season runs longer so we can spend more money.
Question: How does the summer and winter correlation work? How does that work? I mean like a mild summer equals a mild winter or hot summer equals cold winter? I don't know which one it is? So far I think we have had a mild summer but thats just me.
Answer: Actually there is no real correlation between the two. Sometimes a warm summer is followed by a cool winter, but at other times they are both cool, or warm.
Question: What type of summer programs look best on college resemes? I know that it's a little early to be thinking about this, but i couldn't help but look towards next summer and wonder what i'll be doing then. During that summer I will be going into Senior year, and I was wondering what camps or summer programs look best on resemes when applying for college, preferably an academic program.
Answer: It's never too early to look for programs. I'd suggest any type of leadership enrichment programs. Colleges not only look for participation in special programs but also participation as leaders.
As far as academic programs, choose something that will make you look like a well-rounded, intelligent person.
Question: What is the best summer 3 season sleeping bag to purchase? I am currently after a male sleeping bag for the English summer, 3 season. Please could someone recommend one for me. I'd like it to cover a long summer, so would like it to cover end of summer temperatures also. I will be leading in the Lakes so my priority is to have a light and compact sleeping bag. My aim is to make my kit smaller so that i can quite comfortably fit all my kit into a 65l. So, small, warm and effective. As of yet when visiting outdoor shops, every shop has given me different suggestions.
Answer: Sleeping bags are a very personal purchase so it would not be appropriat to recommend a particular brand or type. What would suit me would not necessarily suit you.
The two main choices are down and man-made fibre.
The advantages of down are that it is light, very warm and packs small. The disadvantages are that it is not easy to wash and is useless if it gets wet.
Man-made fibre bags are cheaper, still provide some insulation when wet, dry out quickly, can be washed and do not leak filling through small tears.
I always used a man-made fibre bag until I was forced, by circumstances, to use a down bag. I now prefer a down bag but also use a waterproof "bivvy-bag" to ensure that it doesn't get wet.
For your requirements you would probably be better with a down bag. Make sure it is the right length, if it is too long your feet will be cold and you will be carrying extra, useless, weight. Check the proportion of down to feathers, the more down the better (and more expensive) the bag will be.
A shoulder baffle makes the bag much "snugger" by stopping warm air from escaping. The zip should also be covered by an insulating baffle and an insulated hood should be regarded as a MUST. If you are too hot you can always leave the hood down but it also makes a good pillow if stuffed with a fleece.
Get a tapering, "mummy" bag. They are warmer and lighter. A bag liner will stop your bag from getting soiled and will keep it warmer. A breathable, waterproof, "bivvy bag" will make your bag even more effective and will allow you to sleep without a tent when the weather permits.
Get a "good" make like Rab, North Face, Caravan, Mountain Equipment or an "own-brand" bag made for a reputable retailer like The Cotswold Shop or Black's.
The bag should be covered with a strong, light breathable and wicking material, like Pertex or whatever the modern equivalent is. The lining will be more pleasant if it has a natural "feel".
Armed with the above tips, you should be able to pick yourself a good bag that will last for years.
Happy trails.
Question: Does taking a summer Chemistry course as a medschool pre-requisite hurt my chances of getting into med school? I am a freshman in a four year university, and I was planning on taking a summer Chemistry course. However, I have heard that med schools do not like to see students taking summer courses (especially science classes). Is this true, and how much would it affect my chances of being accepted into a medical school?
Answer: Med schools won't care.
Question: What are good summer activities that build character and your portfolio for college? Especially on limited resources. (Also, how can I turn a vacation to North Carolina for a week into some sort of summer project.)
I love trying new things and wanted to know other people's ideas for a fun and enriching summer.
Thanks!
Answer: Volunteer work of any sort <3
Question: What are some summer excerize plans for teenagers? I am 14 and this summer i want to start running and working out. I am 5'4 and about 110lbs so i am a good size. I would just like to get in shape. I dont think i need to diet. Does anyone have a running plan that gets harder over the summer?
Answer: you could run stairs, hike, ( if you live in a hilly area! ), run around your neighborhood, or join a jym and workout there! just remember to stretch before and afterwards!! as for the plan, i dont have one but you could set a goal and once you reach it set a new one! haha, i dont know! ( ex. start out running a mile a day, then keep adding more and more till you reach your goal! )
hope i helped some! =)

Question: What are great summer oppurtunities to travel and make money? For summer 2011, I will be sixteen, and i want to go somewhere a way from home. I would need somewhere to live and somewhere to make money, so that after summer, i would still have money.
Is there any programs that i could pay not that much, and get food, and living & still make money? In canada?
Answer: Yes if you work for a travel magazine, they may send you to places for writing about a place but you need to have the assignment for this. Some TV channels that require travel show may need people that need to travel and work for them.
