Question: What are some good foods/supplements for women of childbearing age? I had a miscarriage recently. Since then, my body has "stalled". I'm not having periods. What are some good foods or herbal supplements that promote women's health that would prepare my body for future pregnancies? Any advice will help. Thank you!
Answer: foods rich in iron and folic acid (like dark chocolate :)) calcium, ..basically a balanced diet is what you want. also try supplements. I took femMED (which has chasteberry/vitex, saw palmetto, wild yam and raspberry in it,> all fertility boosters and hormone balancers in it) and I became pregnant in a month

Question: Weight gaining supplements for women and/or weight gaining methods? Gaining weight has never been easy. I can eat everything and not gain anything so are there any supplements or methods for weight gain? Is Creatine bad for women? I've been looking on websites and almost all say that Creatine will work but actual people say that it's horrible for both men and women.

Seriously though, you'll start gaining when you get older, and not too terribly much older!
So enjoy your inability to gain weight now...you'll remember these days fondly when your a blimp like the rest of us oldsters.
Question: Do any of you women use supplements? Do women use supplements to lose weight and tone muscle. If you do or know if women should what supplements are they?
Answer: To build muscle tone, you need animal protein. So get Whey Protein shakes. They are high in complete proteins, and very, very low in carbs. I make them in the blender with a bit of sweet n' low and a splash of milk, and ice cubes, and even a splash of vanilla extract and one or two raw eggs. Great, fast breakfast. Also make sure you eat leans meats or fish. Very good for muscle tone.
Otherwise, I only take vitamin supplements. Only certain vitamins are useful in pill form (the others don't absorb properly and you need to get them through food). So for vitamin pills to improve health and fitness, you can take:
Potassium
Magnesium
Calcium
Vitamin C
Vitamin D (this is really important, because there aren't any natural foods that contain it - just the sun gives it to you naturally, and most people are deficient this day and age)
Vitamin A/Zinc
And a multivitamin too never hurts.
Question: What are some good supplements for women? I just started P90X and I want to know if there are any supplements I could purchase to go along with the workouts. I'm trying to lose weight (about 8lbs) and tone up. Any suggestions?

If you purchased P90X from the Beachbody website, you will notice that they also sell the P90X Recovery Formula. It is a 4:1 blend of carbs to protein that is also found in drinks such as Accelerade. On top of that they have an assortment of protein bars and multivitamins.
You can substitute their multivitamins with your own if you so choose. I would recommend that you definitely invest in a whey protein powder and drink a shake after your workout. It definitely helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me.
Question: Vitamins and Supplements for women who are 60 and up? I am sixty and I am taking the usana health pak 100. I am thinking of switching to bayer supplements after I've finished with usana. Is there someone out there who can give me an advice as to what to take or what is the best out there.

In my opinion, the best vitamin for us in our 60's is the Centrum Silver or a generic equivilent......It is an excellent vitamin/mineral combination.....it is also imperitive that we take Calcium 500mg with Vitamin D for our bones so that we do not have an Osteoporosis problem.....have your doctor prescribe Fossamax for you too, that would be for your bones as well.
At our age it is so important to take very good care of ourselves at all times and really pay attention to what we are doing so that we don't become pre-occupied and accidentally fall down and break a bone. I want to wish you the very best of luck and commend you for wanting to do such a good job in taking care of yourself

Answer: You should eat healthy food to get your vitamins. Pills should only be used when there is a medical condition that prevents you from getting enough nutrients through food.

Answer: First, you need to know that the Nutritional Supplement Industry is regulated based on the Food Standard which is far less stringent that the prescription drugs. Most follows the GMP Food standard. To ensure quality and bioavailability (ie. get digested) it is important to meet the following criteria when choose the supplement to ensure high quality:
1) What GMP standard does the manufacturing adopt? Food or Pharmaceutical standard.
2) Does the company own its own research and manufacturing plant or does it buy from other and do the marketing only?
3) Does it meet the US Pharmacopoeia, BP Pharmacopoeia specification for quality, potency and disintegration.
4) It is included in the Singapore Master Index of Medical Specialities (MIMS) which is used by Doctor for over the counter non-drug prescription.
5) Does it meet Consumer Lab testing of quality?
By the way, to similify the job, you may go to the Singapore Library to borrow the book "Comparative Guide to Nutritional Supplements" by Lyle MacWilliam which compares and ranks over 1000 multivitamins in USA and Canada.
Several of the products listed are also available in Singapore eg, GNC, Centrum.
I managed to borrow it from the library and is currently reading it. It is informative and educational.
As for women vitamins and mineral supplements it is not much difference from men. But you may want to supplement with calcium supplement.

Question: toning, muscle defining and muscle building supplements for women? I have been working really hard in the gym but i'm not seeing much results. I am 5'8 and weigh 128 pounds and I'm 18 years old. I really want to tone up and define my muscles. Answer: try changing your workout because your body gets used to it like i used to curl 10 50 times on each arm as a toner but now i do a much larger (30 35) amount less times and maybe try elevation(stairs) what i do as a "muscle milk" i put a splash of skim milk a bit of soy milk (silk milk) a banana 2-3 eggs and a spoon or two of peanut butter and throw it into a blender its Delicious and full of protein and natural whey or just throw some fruit together and make a healthy smoothie yogurt is good too

Continue to excercise and target the zones you want and you should see results within 4-5 weeks.

Answer: Folic acid and prenatal vitamins are critical for women trying to conceive.
I used Fertility Blend for Women (there is also a blend for men) I'm using it now and it has regulated my cycles (I have PCOS). It includes vit's & minerals as well as Vitex which has been shown to regulate women's cycles and increase their fertility.
There are plenty of herbs that both of you can try, I posted an article on this topic at my blog, check it out if you'd like.
I also have a list of herbs for men, to increase their fertility. Let me know if you'd like that as well (too long to post here!)
