Question: How should drug companies respond to people who abuse drugs? Which approach makes more sense to you? Should drug companies make drugs that are highly toxic if abused (shot up, ect) to discourage their abuse, or should they make drugs that are safer even if abused, not because you want them to be abused but because you believe in harm reduction? If making the pills more toxic turns out to not dissuade everyone from abusing these drugs, it is ethical to be increasing the harm these people experience when that harm could be reduced?
Many binders and time release formulations are dangerous to people who shoot up. They shouldnt be shooting up anyway, but if we are further endangering their lives are we doing the right thing?
Another thing is additives like tylenol in Vocodin and Percocet. Despite what they tell you, the tyenol does not add significantly to the pain relief. Tylenol is good for minor aches and pains and it worthless for moderate to severe pain. It doesnt make enough of a difference. Its put in there however to make people sick if they take too much of the opiate. Too much tylenol will destroy your liver and is more toxic than the hydrocodone. Hydrocodone is dangerous if you take more than you have a tolerance for but is comparably non toxic if you use the right dosage. If you increase your dose of hydrocodone to tolerance, you will eventually destroy your liver with the tylenol rather than from the opiates. Many doctors are now switching to norco instead of vicodin because it contains less of the harmful tylenol which should never ever be shot...but it happens and people die.
So, should we err on the side of preventing drug abuse by making it scary by adding stuff that can kill you, or should we err on the side of compassion and harm reduction even when these people are breaking the law by abusing their medication?
"How about we manufacture drugs that do the optimum good for the patient and let the docs do what they do best"
That would be nice. However, the DEA breaths down the neck of doctors and drug companies in the name of trying to prevent drug abuse, and because of this many doctors are afraid to do their job and end up letter legitimate pain patients suffer. Drug companies are also pressured to cater to the DEAs wishes rather than just focus on making the best medications for pain they can make.
Answer: First off. They should crack down on pill docters cause that is most of the cause of these kinds of drugs.
Also i have alot of friends that get xanax from physcatrists. They go in there and say that there family doctor perscribes them this and they do not check.
Really they have done all that they can do for this. Making them illegal makes people want to do it more, thats just the way life works. My answer if its not affecting you
dont worry about it.
Question: How fast does domestic abuse advance and escalate? I am interested in finding out how fast domestic violence and abuse can escalate into a life threatening incident. I know without a doubt domestic violence and abuse are life threatening matters no matter the 'level' of abuse, or type.
Answer: If domestic violence and abuse is overlooked and forgiven, the first time it happens, believe me,it will grow rapidly at a pace you can't keep up with and any such instance can become life-threatening.So,its very essential to uproot the tendency the moment it starts.
Question: What exactly is verbal abuse and does it fall under family abuse? I want to know if saying verbal insults to your family constantly falls under family abuse. It hasn't gotten to the point of hitting but it has gotten to the point were we can't be at peace. I want to know exactly what verbal abuse is. It's to a point were we can't even be in a room in peace due to the constant insults we keep hearing some of the worst things someone could say to a person and i want to know how bad that could be and if there could be criminal charges. Please help?
Answer: Hi there- I don't know exactly what your situation is, but it sounds like things are pretty rough with your family. I would suggest reading a book called A Verbally Abusive Relationship by Patricia Evans. Also, if it feels like verbal abuse, it probably is. Emotional abuse can be just as bad and even worse than physical abuse. Have you sought counseling? Hang in there and good luck!

Question: How would alcohol abuse in the father lead to developmental problems in the fetus? It is easy to see how alcohol abuse in the mother could lead to developmental problems in the fetus. How would alcohol abuse in the father lead to developmental problems in the fetus?
Answer: Ethanol in alcoholic beverages has been consumed by humans since prehistoric times for a variety of hygienic, dietary, medicinal, religious, and recreational reasons. The consumption of large doses of ethanol causes drunkenness (intoxication), which may lead to a hangover as its effects wear off. Depending upon the dose and the regularity of its consumption, ethanol can cause acute respiratory failure or death. Because ethanol impairs judgment in humans, it can be a catalyst for reckless or irresponsible behavior.
The LD50 of ethanol in rats is 10,300 mg/kg.[5] Other alcohols are substantially more poisonous than ethanol, partly because they take much longer to be metabolized and partly because their metabolzation produces substances that are even more toxic. Methanol (wood alcohol), for instance, is oxidized to the poisonous formaldehyde in the liver by alcohol dehydrogenase enzymes; this can cause blindness or death.[2]
An effective treatment to prevent formaldehyde toxicity after methanol ingestion is to administer ethanol. Alcohol dehydrogenase has a higher affinity for ethanol, thus preventing methanol from binding and acting as a substrate. Any remaining methanol will then have time to be excreted through the kidneys. Remaining formaldehyde will be converted to formic acid and excreted.[6][7]
Methanol itself, while poisonous, has a much weaker sedative effect than ethanol. Some longer-chain alcohols such as n-propanol, isopropanol, n-butanol, t-butanol and 2-methyl-2-butanol do however have stronger sedative effects, but also have higher toxicity than ethanol.[8][9] These longer chain alcohols are found as contaminants in some alcoholic beverages and are known as fusel alcohols,[10][11] and are reputed to cause severe hangovers although it is unclear if the fusel alcohols are actually responsible.[12] Many longer chain alcohols are used in industry as solvents and are occasionally abused by alcoholics,[13][14] leading to a range of adverse health effects.[15]

Question: Can Criminal abuse and Child abuse be concidered the same thing? If in an article they say "Man sentenced for criminal abuse"
And another says "Man sentenced for child abuse"
But both articles are about the same case.
Are they the same?Or are they different? Why?
Answer: They are both criminal charges. The other one is just specifying that he was charged for child abuse.
Question: What are some of the reasons why domestic abuse victim might not report it to the authorities? Writing an essay on domestic abuse (focusing mainly on domestic violence)
I understand that a victim may fear that the abuse will become worse if the abuser finds out it's been reported, and that victims of any abuse are made to feel guilty and as though it's somehow their fault.
However, are there any other reasons?
I'm trying to be as detailed as possible.
Answer: I am going to state the reasons that will not have a victim report abuse and since commonly the abuser is male and victim female I will refer to them as that but baring in mind that abusers are also females and abuse is common in homosexual relationships. Also fear is one of the main elements but I will try to provide a variety of other reasons.
Studies have shown that it is harder to convince judges and juries to convict in abuse cases, because of prejudices against complainants as well as misconceptions about what "type" of man would commit such a crime. Courts can reserve a certain scepticism and disparaging biases against females are still the rule of the day in courts even amongst female employees. The police and courts may have little training in how to respond to a person who has suffered chronic or terrifying abuse. Due to the fact that the abuser can easily manipulate and seduce others, they tell stories to the police of hard luck and misunderstanding, of unstable or drunk women, they make themselves believable in playing the part of the victim and conceal their abusive nature. She knows that in a few minutes the police will leave her home and she remains there alone, either with the abuser or without. If the police arrest him, it is only a matter of time until he is released and angrier than ever. Sometimes due to the fact that for purely psychological abuse without being battered and sexually assaulted cases and abuse which is still dangerous and destructive there are yet no laws to protect against this abuse. He will promise to change and the victim will hope this change will occur, he may even promise to go to therapy and get help and use these tactics to dissuade her from taking action and give him another Chance.
Due to the fact that the law these days is lenient on murders and serious criminals and so there is little faith and trust one can place in it. Sometimes the children, financial dependence on abuser and no place to go can force the victim to stay. In other cases the abuser holds a position of authority himself such as he may be a policeman, or a doctor or so well respected person in society and loved by people who don't have to see and live with his hidden identity so the victim is reluctant and rendered helpless and nobody will give her credibility and she will suffer more humiliation and shame.
Hope that's helped :O)
Question: What Child abuse cases have been reported during the Civil rights movement? I am in an English class and I am having issues finding cases of Child abuse cases during the Civil Rights Movement. Any help?
Answer: Child abuse didn't exist until after the civil rights movement nobody knew what child abuse was during that time.
Question: What qualifies as child abuse in the state of California? I have a couple of questions.
- Does child abuse count for anyone who is not emancipated under the age of 18?
- Is it only abuse if it leaves a bruise externally or tears skin?
- If the child/teenager instigates it and the adult hits back is it sill abuse?
- What qualifies as verbal abuse and how do you report it to an authority?
Answer: Here is how the law defines what is typically called child abuse:
273a. (a) Any person who, under circumstances or conditions likely
to produce great bodily harm or death, willfully causes or permits
any child to suffer, or inflicts thereon unjustifiable physical pain
or mental suffering, or having the care or custody of any child,
willfully causes or permits the person or health of that child to be
injured, or willfully causes or permits that child to be placed in a
situation where his or her person or health is endangered, shall be
punished by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year, or
in the state prison for two, four, or six years.
(b) Any person who, under circumstances or conditions other than
those likely to produce great bodily harm or death, willfully causes
or permits any child to suffer, or inflicts thereon unjustifiable
physical pain or mental suffering, or having the care or custody of
any child, willfully causes or permits the person or health of that
child to be injured, or willfully causes or permits that child to be
placed in a situation where his or her person or health may be
endangered, is guilty of a misdemeanor.
The word child is not defined in the chapter and thus takes the common meaning of minor under 18. Bruising and tearing are not necessary. If the adult is simply protecting him/herself, it is legal t use force. Verbal abuse is not illegal in and of itself.
Question: What is the difference between drug abuse and drug addiction? I am witing something freelance and just wondering if anyone can give me an addequite difference between drug abuse and drug addiction.
The definition of an addict is: 1. To cause to become physiologically or psychologically dependent on a habit-forming substance
2. To occupy (oneself) with or involve (oneself) in something habitually or compulsively
Definition of drug abuse: he use of illegal drugs or the inappropriate use of legal drugs. The repeated use of drugs to produce pleasure, to alleviate stress, or to alter or avoid reality (or all three).
The use of a drug for a purpose other than that for which it is normally prescribed or recommended.
the habitual misuse of a chemical substance
They are very similar definitions. Almost the same.
Why are people either classified as a drug abuser or a drug addict? Drug abusers don't usually get the intese care an addict does. Remember, the definition for addic includes psychological addiction... not just physical.
Answer: when you are addicted, you are abusing them..so, not much difference
Question: Can emotional abuse turn to physical abuse if you start to feel physical pain? Like dealing with somebody who gives you the silent treatment no matter what, for example. You really care for the person, so you really get hurt by it. It can cause you stress pains like gert or ulcers or something because you begin to get stressed. So can something emotional be something that may turn into something physical for you? Or is physical abuse what it is- physical abuse, (battering)
Answer: Physical abuse and emotional abuse are much the same. People that abuse have serious problems and they take it out on you. You need to examine why you feel you care for someone that treats you badly. That doesn't make good sense. You need to get out of the relationship and get counseling because you allow yourself to be treated so badly and have such low expectations of how you should be treated. No one deserves to be abused for any reason. You deserve to be treated better. Without help the abuser will not change and may not change anyway. Get out immediately. Abuse escalates. It can become physical. And when you go, be very careful. Go when he isn't around. There are places for abused women. Call them. They will help you get started on a better life.
Question: How much animal abuse cases are there every year? I wanted to know if you all could give me some links on the latest info about animal abuse with good facts (up to date) and maybe some of your own advice. Thanks!
Answer: hmm about 1000 a day here is a place to see

Question: What's the difference between abuse and mistreatment? Where do you draw the line? I don't mean physical abuse, I mean emotional/mental abuse.
Screaming? Name-calling? Negligence? Disrespect?
Not making the bed in the morning?
What is abusive behavior, and what is just not being a good partner?
Answer: I would have to say that it depends on the frequency and type of "screaming" and name calling.
Everyone has bad moments. Even the most kind and most patient person can have a bad day or a bad minute and lose it for a time. Being screamed at, sworn at, verbally broken down on a daily or even weekly basis could be considered emotionally abusive. Once a month, you might want to find out what the underlying cause is and work to correct it. Once every couple of months, it is okay to put it down to a bad moment and be forgiving, though it might behoove one to suggest a different method of assauging the temper.
Negligence is just thoughtlessness, not abuse. Disrespect is just that, a character flaw, not abusive. With these, the choice is there, seek to change things or move on.
Although I am the first to decry abuse within relationships, I also find that it has become a word that is overused and misunderstood, to the point that when someone says they are abused they are no longer taken seriously. You draw the line by using a modicum of common sense and not jumping on the "abuse" bandwagon.
