Alcoholic
Question: Alcoholic? Is a person considered an alcoholic if he/she needs one drink a day?
Answer: What is the drink? Seriously, I'm a recovering alcoholic and member of AA, and I've had other alcoholics tell me they only drank one drink a day but the "one drink" had 8 shots in it.
One beer a day probably isn't going to hurt anyone even if you "need" it. But 8 shots in one glass, well, that's a problem.

Question: Alcoholic tramps. Where do they get the money the need to pay for the alcoholic drinks they abuse? It takes at least a bottle of vodka a day to be an alcoholic. Which costs £8 minimum. So £56 per week.
Income support is around £35 per week. How can the tramps afford it. Not to mention food as well.
Answer: fivetoze is so right.
But they dont all drink vodka. Where I work they beg for money in the subway near by and then come in and buy Mansion House sherry. We call them the Mansion House crew and walk away if we see them coming to guard off the stench.
Question: What is average age alcoholic first shows signs of alcoholism? Can someone tell me (from a good source) the average age a lifelong alcoholic (both recovering and active alcoholics) first starts to show signs of alcoholism?
I'd like to know if possible, not just the age they first take a drink but when the real signs of alcoholism begins for most alcoholics?
Thanks for your time.
Answer: The researchers discovered that alcohol abuse started on average at the age of 22.5, and dependence at an average age of 21.9 years old, while the average age for the first treatment for dependence was 29.8 years.
The research detected an 8-10 years delay in alcoholism treatment after the issue has appeared. "That 10 years can be devastating.
Question: What non alcoholic drinks go good with cigars? I can hardly find good drinks to go with cigars.
As most of you know, that's the second biggest factor for enjoyment.
However, I am too young to legally drink alcoholic beverages.
Anyone got any tips for some non-alcoholic beverage that won't ruin my stick?
Answer: There are several non-alcoholic options for you, but it really depends on the kind of cigar you're smoking.
Just some ideas: Turkish coffee, hot tea, ice tonic water with lime, non-alcoholic wines, light fruit juice (mineral water with a bit of juice squeezed directly from an orange or lemon).
Like I said, it really does depend on the kind of cigar you're smoking. Sometimes the best is even just ice water, believe it or not. Check out the link I posted as my source. It will help you pair up your cigar and a good non-alcoholic beverage!
Good luck!
Question: What are the physical and mental symptoms of a female alcoholic? I know someone I believe to be an alcoholic. What is their emotional state? What is the source of their pain that makes them so alcohol dependent? Her behavior is inconsistent. She is quiet in the morning and loud in the afternoon. She flirts with me and when I flirt back she stops. I can't figure her out. Now I wonder do I know her or the alcoholic her..Do alcoholics give up social activities to drink alone? Do woman alcoholics wear a lot foundation make up? Do woman alcoholics always look sad? Do alcoholics have a good memory?
Answer: I can only answer your questions from my own experience as an alcoholic. I used to be quieter in the morning from raging hangovers and get loud when I wanted to go out and drink. I tried to use foundation to hide the fact that my face was dry as could be and beet red at all times. I am very bad with makeup so my so called cover up jobs were really bad. I always looked sad and know a lot of active alcoholics who look sad all the time because they are. Believe or not being an active alcoholic is a sad and often time painful way to live. I used to try and hide this by acting certain ways in certain situations or trying to crack jokes when I was cracking up inside. Many alcoholics drink alone, it is easier to hide how much they are drinking. I wanted to be social and wanted to go out but I was always so darned depressed I drank alone and eventually was completely isolated from friends and family. I also drank alone because I didn't want anyone to comment on how much I was drinking or say anything about me looking puffy or red or bad. When I drank alone I could drink as much as I want and no one said anything to me. I also could not look myself in the mirror. Lastly, in terms of my own experience, I had a great memory for things that happened a long time ago when I was drinking. I could remember what day of the week my 11th birthday fell or what time it was when something happened when I was a kid but you couldn't ask me what I did the night before because I couldn't remember. For me I used to try and write things down to remember the next day. Like if I spoke to someone on the phone I wrote down a few words about what we talked about, what time we spoke anything basically so I could cover up the fact that I had no idea what had happened. I did the same with tv shows, I would jot down a few things while drinking about what was going on with this show or that show so I could try and participate in discussions with my co-workers. Eventually I got so bad I couldn't read what I wrote the next morning. Not all alcoholics are alike in how they feel but they all have one thing in common.... when they start drinking they cannot stop. Alcoholism is a disease that is treatable. I personally have chosen to recover through AA. It has helped me stay sober for the past 3 1/2 years. I also tried a number of other things and they did not work for me. While you may want to help your friend she may become very angry if you mention your concerns that she might have a drinking problem. She will also have to determine for herself if she is an alcoholic because her acceptance of this will be what she needs to do to get help. If you have any questions you can email me. Good luck.
Question: How to make nonalcoholic and alcoholic eggnog that serves several people? How do you make alcoholic and non alcoholic eggnog? And please only use recipes that serve several people, as my family is coming over for a Christmas family reunion and what is the best way to prevent the kids from drinking the alcoholic eggnog as well.
Answer: Here are 2 recipes for you
Alcoholic Eggnog:
"Holiday Eggnog" - 16 servings
6 eggs; separated, at room temperature
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup bourbon
1 cup light rum
3 cups milk
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 cup heavy cream
1) In large bowl with mixer at high speed, beat egg yolks with sugar until thick and lemon-colored, frequently scraping bowl.
2) At medium speed, carefully beat in bourbon and rum, 1 tablespoon at a time, to prevent curdling mixture. Pour into punch bowl. Cover and chill.
3) About 20 minutes before serving: Stir milk and ground nutmeg into punch bowl.
4) In large bowl with mixer at high speed, using clean beaters, beat egg whites until soft peaks form.
5) In small bowl with mixer at medium speed, beat cream until stiff peaks form. With wire whisk, gently fold egg whites and cream into yolk mixture until just blended.
6) To serve: Sprinkle additional ground nutmeg over eggnog; ladle into 6-ounce punch cups. Yields 10 cups.
Nonalcoholic:
Holiday eggnog Recipe
This is one s-c-r-u-m-p-t-i-o-u-s non-alcoholic eggnog recipe! I'm warning you, though, you may not have a mixing bowl large enough. As you beat the eggnog recipe, it rises like the dawn. I had to stop the beaters as it began to overflow the bowl. Better cut the recipe in half if you have a normal size mixing bowl.
Ingredients:
15 grassfed eggs
4 cups sugar
1 Tablespoon nutmeg
1 Tablespoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 quart whipped cream
1 quart milk, preferably grassfed
Procedure:
Whip the sugar, grassfed eggs and milk together on high speed for about 15 minutes. Heat slowly to 140 degrees (no more) on stove, stirring constantly. Cool and add spices and whipped cream. Beat together until foamy. Serve right away.
If you don't heat slowly or if you heat too high, you may get a slight burnt taste. I did on my first try. Amazingly, it was still delicious. Learn from my miscues and you've got a sure winner.
Put the alcoholic eggnog and the "nonalcoholic near eacho ther with signs saying "ALCOHOLIC" and "NONALCOHOLIC" on them
Question: Why do people ALWAYS think a alcoholic is a mean/violent drunk? I know most cases they are, but my father is a alcoholic and he always one of those funny/goofy drunks.
He's been a alcoholic for several years now, but I guess I should be thankful he isn't violent. But why does society always associates alcoholics as violent?
He never drinks and drive.
Answer: This is my opinion based on societies "stereotyping" of people.
Alcoholics- mean,violent,dangerous,should not drive
Pit Bulls- mean,violent,dangerous,should not drive
Drug addicts- criminals,violent,dangerous,should not drive
Elderly- mean, should not drive, forgetful * ha ha, I just thought that was kinda funny...
I guess it is just that in today's society it's easy to stereotype things and for the most part a "stereotype" is usually fairly accurate...
The media only shows you the percentage of stereotypes that screw up or do bad things... they fail to report the alcoholic homeless man who prevented a woman from being assaulted or the Pit-Bulls who have saved many lives...

I try to make light of things and joke to an extent but in all seriousness , the short answer is with people the negative things in life impact or way of thinking more that the positive. I am glad your father is Irish ... lol ... sorry had to through that in I am part Irish and people associate Irish with Alcoholism.
Question: What is the actual difference between a recovered alcoholic or an plain alcoholic? No offense to any1 who has this disease which my father died from but correct me if I am wrong. Isn't alcoholism a disease & I thought once an alcoholic always an alcoholic even AFTER you're sober aren't you still an alcoholic? What's the difference?
Answer: You are right-it is a disease and once an alcoholic always an alcoholic-BUT you can be in RECOVERY. I would use cancer as a rough comparison. You have cancer-they treat you- you're in remission-BUT you will always carry the gene for cancer. Make sense.
I will say I'm sorry about your father-my dad died from alcoholism at 42. I have been blessed for 28 yrs. God Bless Reggie
Please feel to email if you have more questions.
Question: What are some alcoholic drinks that actually taste good? I'm trying to find an alcoholic drink that will taste good to me, I'm 22 and have never been able to find anything alcoholic that I really liked the taste of, and whenever I go out with friends I'm usually the only one who's not really drinking (or drunk eventually), which kinda sucks sometimes. Can anyone recommend anything for me? If it helps, I like soda a lot, like Coca Cola, 7up, Sprite, Mountain Dew, etc. so maybe something simple with soda mixed in I would like.
Answer: Tanqueray and tonic with a twist of lime is good

Question: What alcoholic drink is blue and bubbles? I recently saw an alcoholic drink that looked like blue cool-aid with dry ice in it. It was a vibrant blue color with white vapors pouring out over the top like you would expect to see from dry ice. Anyone know what it is and how it is made?

Question: What alcoholic drinks should I bring to a bachelor party? I was asked to determine which alcoholic drinks/beverages to bring to a friend's bachelor party. I really don't know what I should bring. Can you please give me some suggestions. It would be reaaaally helpful. Thank you very very very very much.
Answer: You'll want to get good stuff or you will appear to be cheap.
This means:
A good bottle of whiskey. Try Bulleit Bourbon.
A good bottle of gin. Tanqueray is good. So is Bombay Sapphire.
A good bottle of vodka. Anything expensive. No plastic.
Maybe some rum. Not as popular as the other three.
A good tequila. I like Patron.
Beer:
You will need several varieties. I would recommend Guinness, Stella Artois, Newcastle, a few local microbrews and then the American crappy beers like Bud, Coors and so on.
To go with all this liquor you will need the correct mixers, ingredients and glasses.
For the above things you will need LOTS OF ICE, some tumbler glasses, pint glasses, some tall glasses, 10 lemons or so, 20 limes, make a lot of simple syrup (dissolve a bag of sugar into a a couple cups of sugar), orange juice, cranberry juice, tomato juice, worchestshire sauce, tabasco sauce, celery (those last three are for bloody marys), a couple large bottles of coca cola, olives, vermouth, soda water, tonic water, a bottle of Cointreau, another Triple Sec, vermouth and a few other liqueurs, depending on what drinks you like. I don't know if you guys like margaritas. If you do, I prefer using lime juice, but if not get some mix.
I'm sure you've thought of it, but a couple boxes of cigars would be great too. I love Padron cigars.
Good luck, and have fun.
Some people above have said wine, but I don't think it will fit with a bachelor party. Unless you have some snooty friends, you won't need any. Chances are if you have to ask this question to begin with, you wont need any wine.
Question: How do you get an alcoholic that is suspected of being in the early stages of alcoholic dementia to see a dr.? My mother has been an alcoholic for over 10 years. After much pleading from the family, she decided to stop drinking and start attending AA meetings. There is a noticeable difference in her general character, and has seemingly become more and more illiterate especially over the past year. We have asked her to please go to the doctor, but refuses saying there's nothing wrong with her. How can we get her to see that we are only trying to help her by going to see the doctor?
Answer: Your mother is suffering from Korsakoff syndrome, which is brain damage caused by years of heavy drinking. Alcohol prevents the body from utilizing thiamine (vitamin b-1) properly. This leads to neuron death. This shows up behaviorally as impaired judgment, impaired memory, and a host of other problems.
One of the first symptoms of alcoholism is denial. "I only drink beer", "I only drink at night", "I can stop anytime I want to". The excuses go on and on. The same psychology which causes this denial is continuing with your mother now. "There's nothing wrong with me". The psychology of denial plus the impaired judgment lead your mother to think that she's fine.
You're probably not going to be able to convince your mother to go to a doctor on her own. I know that this is not what you want to hear.
I've put a link to korsakoff-syndrome below to better help you understand what is happening to your mother.
Question: How many alcoholic drinks do you limit yourself to when you just start dating someone? I'm not tiny and I am a bit overweight. I don't want to drink too much. Does it look wrong to have three alcoholic drinks on a second date? Women: do you usually get slightly tipsy from three drinks? I drink super fast & love alcohol, but mainly on dates, to loosen up, but not to get drunk, just for a buzz. Thx.
Answer: It depends.
If i am driving - no alcohol at all.
But otherwise, i limit myself to a maximum of 2, and only if the date also has a similar drink.
btw - a woman who only drinks on dates gives off a wrong signal.
Seems that she needs a confidence booster all the time - not really someone that would inspire trust for me.
