Amino Acid Products
Question: One of the products of the metabolism of the amino acid Tryptophan is pyruvic acid. Why do we look for indole? Why do we look for indole and not the production of pyruvic acid to show that the cells can metabolize Tryptophan?
Answer: Pyruvate comes from many sources, including glucose and another amino acid, alanine. Indole is specific for tryptophan.
Question: is amino acid good for a 14 years old sports girl? she is a tennis player and i have a multivitiamins and minerals with amino acid product .
is it good for her or not and why?
Answer: Amino acid is One of the 20 building blocks of protein. The sequence of amino acids in a protein and, hence, the function of that protein are determined by the genetic code in the DNA.
Amino acids are molecules that (in technical terms) contain a basic amino (NH2) group, an acidic carboxyl (COOH) group and a side chain attached to an alpha carbon atom.
The 20 amino acids are alanine, arginine, asparagine, aspartic acid, cysteine, glutamic acid, glutamine, glycine, histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, proline, serine, threonine, tryptophan, tyrosine, and valine.
Most dietitians say it is unhealthy for people but it depends on blood count and things like that you should ask you physician or doctor before you do anything
Question: L-lysine is a good amino acid to give to cat to get over viral upper respiratory infection. Do you know any other suggestions (foods/vitamins/amino acids/products) to give. I spoke to a vet and he recommended it and said that cats usually have 2 sorts of viruses (herpes and calicovirus) and told me L-lysine would quicken the process.
Any other recommendations? You help is well appreciated.
Answer: Your vet is correct. My MC/RD kitten is on it now. Came home from work yesterday, and he had the start of a URI, and she put him right on it. This morn, he asked for his breakfast, and is pretty much back to normal, but I caught it quick, and she wants him on it for 7 days.
When he had his eye infection and mouth infection, she put him on it each time, and he recovered very quickly.
You can get it in the vitamin section, 500 mg, one capsule, once a day. I break open the capsule and mix it with 2 heaping teaspoons of turkey baby food, mix very well, he eats it right up.
You want to get one of the higher end brands, no sugar, no starch, no fillers, I got Full Circle, ran about $9.
I also recommend Feline Missing Link vitamins. I'll give you a link, so you can see what it looks like, and the ingredients. It has Omega 3 and Omega 6, which is very important.
I got mine at Pet Smart, it comes in a gold foil pouch, has to be refriderated once opened, and lasts for about 3 months, runs around $11. The directions are per the cats weight, but I found that for him, 1/4 teaspoon works best. For his weight, 20 lbs, he should be getting alot more, but I found that any more than 1/4 teaspoon, and he either won't eat it, or it gives him diarea. I mix with about 2 heaping teaspoons of turkey baby food, but you could mix it with any canned food, just mix well.
My vet also highly recommends it, and he is a show cat, that finished in the top 10 (6th place), in Region 1 in CFA.
Hope this helps and best of luck. :-)

Question: Amino Acid Profile of Protein products? When I read the amino acid Profile of proteins that I take, there are very large dosages of many amino acids, which would make sense, as the protein quantity must be made of amino acids.... BUT is taking this protein the same as if I took each of these amino acid individually... I take Glutamine, but what is the point, if there is tons of naturally occurring in my protein shake?
Answer: Those occuring naturally out of the foods/liquids you consume are better absorbed by the body. Vitamins do not always become fully absorbed and are often passed as waste.

Answer: you needs essential amino acids, i.e. what the body cannot make and has to be provided through diet
what you need is to eat properly , if you get too much protein your body will simply get rid of what it doesn't need
if you make your protein shake with egg whites ( the powdered type for example) and skim milk or yogurt and you make sure you also get to eat proper food like lean cuts of red meat/poultry/fish and fresh fruits and veggies then you got nothing to worry about, even the amino acid supplements like from gnc may be unnecessary although buying expensive protein drinks is easier than preparing the healthier versions with fruits , skim milk and egg whites at home
you can get better info from a dietitian to make sure you have a "custom" diet to fit your needs

Question: is gelatine in amino acid in optimum products halal?
Answer: It all depends from where the gelatine is-- either from swine (forbidden) or bovine (allowed). Also some Muslims insists the cow to be slaughterd according to the Islamic manner.
There's nothing wrong about amino acids per se.
Question: Is there a product or amino acid complex etc to increase the absorption of the vitamins and minerals ingested? I know the basic stuff like taking supplements with food for better absorption, but I wonder if there's an absorption-enhancing product out there.
Answer: We recommend a green compound: http://www.worldclassnutrition.com/greensprotein.html
the ingredient combination is perfect for allowing your body to properly absorb nutrients from vitamins and minerals!
Question: Which amino acid product would help muscle growth the most? GNC sells Amino 1000, Amino Burst 300, and BCAA 1800. All of these are in pill form. Which do you think would help my muscles grow (and get me stronger)? Thanks for any information!
Answer: Hey Dude,
I would recommend not concentrating on the Amino acids in pill form. Instead, I think you should get some 100% Whey Protein Powder and check for the Amino Acid content. EAS has a good one, and so does MuscleBlast 2000...there are tons out there, and I think you will have the ablilty to build much more muscle by consuming more protein in conjunction with working out. Like after you lift, go home and make yourself a protein shake. You should be consuming .5 grams of protein for every one pound of body weight. That's a lot, and just make sure that you drink a ton of water with a high protein diet to help your body deal with the protein! Also, a note, when lifting, lift as heavy as you possibly can and do your reps as slowly as you can...that will help build thicker muscle fibers. Good luck!

Joe... that is what I was thinking... that the amino acids would be used in conjuncyion with one another as the sigular protein, and that you would not get any of teh benefits of any of the individual proteins.. but i was not sure.... Are you sure? Do you know that you are right? It is weird that they list the profile at all...
Andrew.. believe it or not.. the protein powders have more of many of the individual proteins then the supplements do, including glutamine..
Answer: It shouldn't be the same as taking amino acids individually because the function of the protein is the interaction of all the amino acids in the protein, constituting the protein's shape and functions.
Question: where can i find amino acid in my house/house hold products?
Answer: Amino acids are contained in anything with proteins. One good example are artificial sweeteners containing aspartame, a form of aspartic acid (an amino acid)
Question: What is the organic product formed when an amino acid (alanine) reacts with Na2CO3? Asked this in a Chemistry book, cannot find anything to suggest what the mechanism/answer could be.
Answer: The sodium salt of the amino acid (alanine), carbon dioxide and water.
Question: what is the best amino acids supplements products?
Answer: These are clinical protein supplements, used at medical facilities
Beneprotein
Isopure
Pro-Stat
Proteinex
Micellar Milk
You should also talk to your doctor about this!
Good Luck!
Question: Some plants produce the amino acid canavanine, which is toxic to many insects because? a. insects lacka tRNA specefic for canavanine
b. canavanine is a component of alkaloids
c. canavanine prevents cells from synthesizing the amino acid arginine
d. insects lack large vacuoles for the storage of secondary products
e. insect protein that incorporate canavanine function poorly
Answer: e
L-(+)-(S)-Canavanine is a nonproteinogenic amino acid of certain leguminous plants. It is structurally related to the proteinogenic amino acid, L-arginine. Canavanine is accumulated primarily in the seeds where it serves both as a defensive compound against herbivores and a vital source of nitrogen for the growing embryo. Organisms that consume it can mistakenly incorporate it into their own proteins in the place of arginine, thereby producing structurally aberrant proteins that may not function properly. Some specialized herbivores tolerate L-canavanine either because they metabolize it efficiently or avoid its incorporation into their own nascent proteins.
