Question: How is apple juice made when apples are not in season? Lets say all apples in a particular country are collected in Septemeber. Also, this country does not import apples from other countries where apples are fresh and in season. Would the apple juice I drink in May be from the apples picked in Septmenber? If so, then there must be a lot of perservatives to keep it from going bad.Isn't that bad for my health?
Answer: Apples keep very well in cold storage. Probably better than any other fruit. That's why you see fresh apples in the markets year round, even U.S. apples.
It is more cost effective to produce apple juice when the apples are in season, but it can be produced from apples that have been in storage as well.
Apple juice usually does not contain artificial preservatives. It is sterilized and bottled, or frozen as concentrate. No preservatives needed.
Question: How many apples is needed for 7 cups of chopped apples? I am making a recipe that calls for 7 cups of finely chopped apples. Can anyone tell me about how many apples this would require? I will probably use macintosh apples.

Question: Substituting apples for raisins and cherries in a cake? Advice from good cooks, please: I made a fruit cake which was lovely. Could I just substitute the same amount of apples, or would I need to adjust the amount of apples, or other ingredients to have it turn out ok? Thanks.
Answer: I have done this and it works fine using the same amount.
Question: How do I keep my apples from turning soggy when baking a pie? Whenever I bake apple pie, the apples always come out soggy, almost like apple sauce. I tried using Golden Delicious apples but the results are the same. How can I keep the apples from turning soggy?

Question: How many apples does an apple tree produce daily? I need to know how many apples a well-kept apple tree produces daily or yearly. I appreciate your time.
Answer: A well kept, mature trees can grow several hundred each year. They ripen in late summer to early fall, depending on the variety.
Young trees don't start producing until they are 5 to 7 years old, and they'll start out giving you 30-50 apples the first year, and increase each year as they grow and can support more.
Question: Can one apple tree make apples? Does there need to be a male and female plant like marijuana? I'm actually asking about apples, not pot. I'm wondering why apple trees are usually only seen in orchards with many trees, almost never standing alone in someones' back yard or something.
Answer: apple trees do not need a male and female to produce apples the apple is the female part of the plant the seed the reason you only see them in orchards is because it is easier for the farmer/producer to go along and pick the apples in large quantities
Question: How do you prevent your apples from turning brown after slicing them? I am getting ready to take the caramel apple dip and apples but the party isn't until four but I want to slice the apples now and I know the apples will turn brown what can i do?
Answer: Dip the cut surfaces in lemon juice or vinegar. Also you can buy powdered 'ascorbic acid' (vitamin C) and dissolve that in water. People who bake with apples a lot use that.

Question: What kind of apples should I use for homemade applesauce? I'm making a pork roast for dinner, and I'd like to do a homemade applesauce with it. I made some really great applesauce with red rome apples last fall, but I can't seem to find any of those this time of year. Any suggestions for a good type of apple to use? I don't put sugar in it, so I find granny smiths are a little tart. I like eating fuji apples, but I know they aren't great for cooking. Any advice?
Answer: Am an old Mainer here and I highly recommend McIntosh apples for your apple sauce. I make it often and do it either on the stove top or crock pot. It truly is terrific. For a simple twist on your apple sauce try using 3/4 mac's and two Pink lady apples....Yum !!!!!
Question: What type of apples are the best to use for apple strudel and apple pie? I don't want them to be sour apples.
Correction: I don't want it to have a sour flavor. Maybe adding the sugar and stuff makes them not so sour? I don't know, I'm not a cook!
Answer: A tart apple is good to start with. Granny Smith's are my favorite. When you add the sugar and cook it, that sugar as well as the natural sugars in the apples will caramelize and become sweet.
Question: Why is applesauce good for diarrhea, even though apples and apple juice are laxatives? When I had diarrhea recently, the nurse told me that applesauce was helpful, but fruits (except banana) and fruit juices were to be avoided because of the laxative effect. And I know independently that apples and apple juice are both laxatives. What happens to make apple sauce not a laxative? It's just apple bits floating in apple sauce.
Answer: the nurse is actually right. apple sauce contains pectin, which stabilizes food. it increases the volume of stool. for more information on it, look here:
