Arthritis Symptoms
Question: arthritis symptoms?
Answer: Over fifties only unless you want to be a hypochondriac. Under fifty and it is more likely repetitive strain injury and that is quite possible over fifty as well.
Arthritis is often misdiagnosed. Don't have an operation without a second opinion, even if you have suffered pain or trapped nerves (pins 'n needles) for nine months.
Question: 25 yrs old and getting arthritis symptoms? The last couple of days I have been getting joint pain, particularly in my fingers and wrists. Also my elbows, back and metatarsals in the feet have been feeling stiff and a bit achy.
I noticed on some joints on my fingers there are some very faint red dots.
I am going to the doctor's on monday about this. What type of arthritis could this be? Or could it be something else?
I don't have any virus or other symptoms I am aware of.
Answer: Before ruling out Lyme disease as the cause, you should be tested by Igenex. http://www.igenex.com Other laboratories have too many false negatives for Lyme (saying people don't have it when they actually do).
Lyme disease exists in every state and most parts of the world. Most people never noticed a tick bite or rash.

Question: What's the best way to alleviate arthritis symptoms in dogs? My 10 yr old yellow lab was just diagnosed with arthritis. She's absolutely fine, most of the time, runs, swims, etc. But, she has days, when she can not put any weight on her right front paw. The Vet gave me medacam, and that works very well. But is there anything else I can do for her?
She is at her normal weight, about 62 pounds, she is definitely not over-weight. She swims in the pool daily (usually several times, even when the leg acts up). I do give her glucosamine supplements (in honey). I'm interested in the magnetic therapy, do they make small mattress pads for dog beds?
She;s definitely not overweight, and I dont think she did anything to the paw, because it hurt initially, but then was absolutely fine for about a month, and then back to holding it in the air. I was really beginning to think the arthritis diagnosis was not right, until she started limping on it again...I'm not that familiar with arthritis, is that how it is, comes and goes?
Answer: I used magnetic therapy on my dog that extended her years beyond what doctors said. The magnets were from Nikken.
Question: Can you get arthritis or arhtritis type symptoms from being cold? My right hand hurts when I work long hours with the mouse. The middle finger knuckle being the worst. Is it possible that because it is so cold in here I am getting arthritis or at least arthritis type symptoms?
Answer: Arthritis can be aggravated by the cold and damp weather.
Question: Arthritis symptoms and is there any cure or the best medication for it? Lately I been having pain on my hands and wrist and the Dr. said that it might be the beginning of Arthritis and I am wondering if it can be cure or is there any medication that can stop it if it has no progress that much?
Also, what exactly is Arthritis and how does this affect the body or organ and how bad can it get or what is the worse that can happen if I have it?
Answer: Arthritis is a progressive disease which gradually becomes worse as you age. There is no cure for this. You can go to WebMd.com and type in arthritis and read up on this condition and how to manage it. The use of tylenol on painful days is often recommended, sometimes an anti-inflammatory such as naproxen, ibuprofen. Arthritis makes your joints more stiff and painful as you get older.
Question: Has anyone ever tried to relieve their symptoms of arthritis with a green tea or water fast? I'm experiencing a bit of pain in my joints and muscles and I don't want to have to rely on pills to get me through my day. I've heard that fasting if done properly can eliminate toxins from the body and relieve major symptoms of arthritis and even Raynaud's phenomenon. It's worth a shot.
And yes I've already consulted a doctor this week. She took some tests and told me to come back in a month. Then she sent me on my way home with a prescription for a pain killer (that doesn't do much for pain) and some thing to help me sleep at night.
Answer: drinking water will help but only if it is distilled water...any other water will only deposit more hard minerals into your joints. Distilled water helps to carry away the minerals that are free to irritate your joints without depositing anymore.

Question: Does fish oil help with arthritis symptoms? Specifically, will fish oil supplements reduce joint stiffness attributed to arthritis?
Answer: Fish oils contain omega 3 fatty acids. These special fats have been shown to help reduce inflammation, reduce stiffness and lower the amount of anti-inflammatory medications used by patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
A study from Brazil had doctors take a group of 34 patients with rheumatoid arthritis and split them into 3 groups:
1) One group received omega 3 fish oils
2) One group received omega 3 fish oils and olive oil
3) One group received a placebo consisting of soy oil
Researchers found the patients taking fish oils experienced a major improvement in hand strength. And at 12 weeks of treatment they experienced decreased joint pain.
Looking at the patients six months later, the two groups taking fish oils saw even more improvements. They found it easier to bend over and pick items off the floor and there was a delayed onset of fatigue. They also found it easier to get in and out of the car.
Researchers concluded that omega 3 fish oils offer pain relief from arthritis. There was a marked improvement in these patients' quality of life which makes all the difference in the world.
Another study from Australia had a group of rheumatoid arthritis patients take either:
1) 3 - 6 capsules of omega 3 fish oils
2) olive oil/corn oil mixture
Patients taking fish oils took a dose based on their weight. For every kilogram of bodyweight they received 40 mg. of omega 3 fatty acids, including EPA and DHA. For example, a 75 kg. (165 lbs.) man would get 3000 mg. of omega 3's per day.
Surprisingly, the patients taking fish oils experienced decreased joint pain. It appears using fish oils and arthritis relief go hand in hand.
Doctors at a hospital in Albany, New York had their rheumatoid arthritis patients take at least 3 grams of Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) for at least 3 months.
At the end of the study, patients had:
- fewer tender joints
- less morning stiffness
- increased range of motion
- lowered the amount or stopped taking anti-inflammatory drug
It appears that fish oils help reduced inflammation leading to a decrease in symptoms of arthritis. More studies need to been done to confirm what an effective dose of fish oils are for each person.
Remember to consult your physician before beginning any new nutritional supplement that may affect your treatment plan.
Question: What is your opinion in using Minocin as a medicaion to stop the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis? What is your opinion in the adoption of Minocin as a drug to stop the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis? And for how long can a patient tolerate this medication..
Answer: Reviews for Minocin taken from drugs.com
Minocin (minocycline) for Rheumatoid Arthritis: Having suffered from rheumatoid arthritis for more than 20 years I suffered a whole body flare 5 years ago severe enough to almost prevent me from walking. Twenty-six days after being put on Minocin by my doctor at Harvard Medical School I was riding my bicycle 10 miles a day. Minocin is not a "cure" for rheumatoid arthritis. Whenever I have attempted to get off this drug the rheumatoid arthritis has come back within 2 months. But as long as I take it you would never know I have rheumatoid arthritis. Only side effect I've experienced is a grayish blue tint to my skin on my neck and cheeks.
Question: Medical mystery: Can anyone explain why after sickness with fever, arthritis symptoms disappear for a while? I've experienced this several times. I have severe osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia pain, and pain from a back injury. I almost look forward to getting sick--- because it seems like the sicker I get, the better I feel for a few days after when I get better!
The joint and muscle pain is so greatly reduced.
Could it be the semi-fasting? I could pretty much only drink small amounts of juice for three days. Or does the fever do something?
Can any smart person with medical knowledge enlighten me?
Answer: all anti fever drugs are analegisics and most importantly anti-inflammatory. so it is propably the over the counter analegesics that you take for the fever. even if you are currently on some antiinflammmatory for the fibromyalgia, the over the counter drugs may have an addative effect.
But please remember that all over the counter drugs can be very harmful on long term use so you must consult the doctor to make sure which drug will work better for you.
Question: My sister has been having arthritis symptoms, tests show no arthritis. She was stung bee- can this be related? Her aching joints came on suddenly and are getting worse. Besides arthritis she has been tested for lupus, diabetes, thyroid disorder and Lyme's disease. She is 31 and feels like shes 80. Open to any suggestions.
Answer: The Lyme test they typically give is unfortunately highly unreliable. It often says you don't have it when you actually do. Lyme is not associated with bee stings. However, she may well have been bitten by a tick also and not known it--ticks are tiny and their bites are painless.

Question: Can exercise relieve the symptoms of arthritis? I constantly have cracking in my neck, back, and knees. Over the years it has gotten worse. I do not exercise enough, and I have heard that excessive exercise cures arthritis, is this true?
Answer: Yes! exercise is a big factor in relieving arthritis. exercising for 10 minutes a day is better than not exercising at all. You could do a variety of different exercises that are sure to help you out on the journey to becoming arthritis free. Thier are alot of sites out there that explain how to exercise to get rid of arthritis pain. Ive included this one and recommend that you check it out for yourself. Its up to you on which exercises you would want to do. Question: What are symptoms of arthritis? I crack my fingers and i know i shouldn't but it's a habit.
Would stiffening up and hurting joints/ pricks in the joints be symptoms of arthritis? also in a few years if i continue will it be very hard to type and write cause i do that alot in school and it somewhat aches now.
Answer: Severe pain and swelling and stiffness in the joints are the cardinal signs of arthritis. It's a myth that popping your knuckles will cause arthritis. The best thing to do would be to work on stopping the habit, even though it is basically harmless.
Question: What are the symptoms of arthritis in the hips? I wake up with excruciating pain in my hips an top half of my? legs. I take Ibuprofen in the morning and it takes care of the pain for most of the day. I went to the doctor and he moved my legs in a certain way to see if it was arthritis and he said it wasn't. He told me to take a massive dose of Ibuprofen every day for 10 days to see if this would get rid of it. It went away for a few weeks and it is back again.
Answer: I have arthritis all over my joints, but never had an excruciating pain. Early in the morning hours I have stiffness and dull pain, uncomfortable sensations and my joints are swollen, so I start exercising to get the blood flow going as the day goes on it gets better. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to all NSAIDs, meaning Ibuprofen, Celebrex, aspirin...
Again everyone's symptoms are different, if you indeed have a severe arthritic hips, then the degree of pain will be higher. As you know you can't cure arthritis caused by aging, abused joints and so on.
I would see another physician to get a second opinion and have him check thoroughly to make sure there's nothing floating inside of your hip bones or a severe wear, osteopenia.
By the way, are you overweighed ? just curious. Extra weight will wear your hips down too, but leg pain too...Hips are in trouble, thighs will be affected too from the pressure.
Question: Alternative medicine for arthritis symptoms? Is there any natural/herbal/supplement you can take over the counter or otherwise for arthritis like symptoms which are not revealed on any blood or urine test I've had? Thanks
Answer: Nutrients:
Boron - 3 mg daily (required for healthy bones)
Bromelain - as directed 3x daily (prostaglandin production)
Garlic - 2 capsules 3x daily (anti inflammatory)
Glucosamine sulfate - as directed (for bones, tendons, joint fluid)
Pantothenic acid (B-5) - 500-1000 mg daily (vital for adrenal gland)
Primrose oil or Salmon oil - as directed (anti inflammatory)
Sea cucumber - as directed (for joints and joint fluid)
Silica - as directed (for rebuilding of connective tissues)
Superoxide dimutase - as directed (antioxidant, protects joint fluid from free radicals.)
Vitamin C - 1000-3000 mg 3x daily with meals. (destroys free radicals)
Herbs:
Alfalfa, cat's claw, feverfew, ginger, cayenne, burdock root, devil's claw, nettle and yucca may all be helpful.
Dietary:
Consume foods containing sulfur -asparagus, eggs, garlic and onions.
Other good foods include green leafy vegetables, fresh vegetables, non-acidic fresh fruits, whole grains, oatmeal and brown rice.
Eat fresh pineapple daily. Bromelain is great at reducing inflammation.
Eat lots of fiber: flaxseeds, bran, and raw vegetables like celery and carrots.
Reduce the amount of fat in your diet. Do not consume dairy products or red meat. Avoid caffeine, citrus, paprika, salt, tobacco and sugar.
Avoid nightshade vegetables (peppers, eggplants, tomatoes, potatoes)
Do not take iron supplements, or multivitamins with iron. This has been linked to pain, swelling and joint destruction.
Get regular, moderate exercise.
Question: what are the main symptoms of diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis? Both diseases run on my moms side of the family and,so far I have a few of those symptoms(according to my mom)
but,I don't know much.Like I have cuts and bruises, that never go away.Thats one thing.(I have to get a ganglion removed dec 5)although,my feet are also effected.
So,symptoms of diabetes?
symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis?(19 yrs old)
Answer: There are basically two types of gene mutations in respect to disease. One type of mutation causes a disease. For example, the mutant gene may cause achrondroplasia (a form of dwarfism) or it may cause hemophilia or cystic fibrosis or sickle cell disease. The existence of genes that cause diseases has long been recognized.
The other type of gene mutation does not directly cause a disease but rather predisposes to it. These genes make a person susceptible to developing a disease. These susceptibility genes often involve common chronic diseases such as diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis.
An important finding has just been made about the genetic susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis and autoimmunity. We will outline the finding.
Background: Rheumatoid arthritis is the most common systemic autoimmune disease. It affects 1% of all adults in the world. The disease is characterized by immune-mediated destruction of the joint architecture. It is 2 to 3 times more common in women than men. The heritability of rheumatoid arthritis is 60%, reflecting a strong genetic component in the disease.
Design of Research: To identify genes involved in the susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis, a "discovery study" was done testing for 87 variations called SNPs (single-nucleotide polymorphisms) in candidate genes and regions. The discovery study involved 475 individuals with rheumatoid arthritis and 475 individually matched controls.
Result: One of the SNPs was found to be associated with rheumatoid arthritis. It was a "missense" SNP in a gene encoding a protein tyrosine phosphorylase. This risk SNP was present in 28% of those with rheumatoid arthritis and 17% of the controls
Comment: A variant of this same SNP encoding the same phosphorylase enzyme was recently found associated with type 1 diabetes, another autoimmune disease. It is beginning to look as if this variant phosphatase may increase the overall reactivity of the immune system and may raise the risk for autoimmune disease.
