Question: What blood types can donate blood to someone with blood type A? Also, What blood types can donate blood to someone with blood type B? What blood types can donate blood to someone with blood type 0? And what blood types can donate blood to someone with blood type AB?
I know this is a lot of questions, but if you answer all of them I would really appreciate it even though if you can only answer one or two of them I will still appreciate it. I have an exam tomorrow and I need to know all of these so I cannot begin to say how much I will appreciate it if you could give me all these answers.
Thanks
Answer: Group A can recieve A or O red cells
B can recieve B or O
O can recive only O
AB can recieve AB, A, B, or O
remember the Rhesus system is as important. RhD pos individuals can recieve D+ or D- blood, but D- individuals should only recieve D- in most circumstances (especially females of child bearing age, who should recieve D- and Kell neg units).
Question: How much blood is taken for a thyroid blood test? I have to get a blood test to check my thyroid, I think it's a full thyroid panel or something like that. I want to know if it is a lot of blood/many tubes of blood. I tend to pass out if it's a lot of blood, so I want to know. Thanks.
Answer: Probably two small tubes but it's no big deal. I have had blood taken for thyroid tests for many years, and many more tests for other matters. Try looking at something else and concentrating on that and it will be over in one minute or less.
Question: What blood cults have a God that required their son's blood in a sacrifice to enable them to forgive? I have heard of a cult in which they have a God that is all "powerful " but only the blood of a human sacrifice could enable this God to forgive, because he could not brake his own rule. All powerful but the blood of his son in a sacrifice-execution could only work to forgive.
What blood cults have this type of God?
Answer: Sounds pretty Christian to me!
Question: What are the formed elements of blood plasma and their functions? I am aware that the formed elements of blood are Red Blood Cells, White Blood Cells, and Platelets. However I thought that this is only outside the blood plasma. My book says that when formed elements are removed from blood, blood plasma is left. So then doens't this mean there aren't any formed elements in blood plasma? Or is it the plasma proteins and/or other solutes that make up blood plasma?
Answer: Yes there are proteins and other solutes that make up blood plasma. 90% of blood plasma is water and the othe 10% is solutes( which includes protein)
The formed elements are like you said rbc, wbc, and platelets.
rbc carry gas
example oxygen
wbc
phagocsytise
platelets help in clotting
Question: When u get general blood work done do they test for diseases? I've had loads of blood tests done due to a reoccurring sickness (tonsilitis). I ended up needing surgery and they did a blood test before the surgery. I've also given blood many times and they obviously test the blood prior to giving it to someone who needs it.
What exactly do they test for during those blood tests? If you have hiv, stds, lupis, leukemia, or cancer unknowingly will these show up on the blood tests?
Answer: No...
Question: What blood pressure pill can a insulin dependent diabetic take ? I have tried Cozaar, Lisinopril & Diovan & had bad side effects from them & my blood pressure actually went higher. Please help, has this happened to anyone else ?
I am taking Tenormin (Atenenol) now but my blood pressure is still high.
What are some of the blood pressure pills other diabetic take with little side effects ?
Answer: I take Enalapril Maleate . Ten MG. a day. Bp went from 150/90 tyo 118/68.....But there is a catch to this. I started to exercise 1 hour and 30 min. a day . Nordic Walking. And this is what I think really lowered my BP. Cause before I was taking 5 mg. and nothing was getting better. I have no side effects.
I pay 3 1/2 cents a 5 mg. pill. I live in Thailand.
Try the exercise bit. I do it everyday : Rain or Shine.
How are high blood pressure and exercise connected? Regular physical activity makes your heart stronger. A stronger heart can pump more blood with less effort. If your heart can work less to pump, the force on your arteries decreases, lowering your blood pressure.
Becoming more active can lower your systolic blood pressure — the top number in a blood pressure reading — by an average of 5 to 10 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg). That's as good as some blood pressure medications. For some people, getting some exercise is enough to reduce the need for blood pressure medication.
If your blood pressure is at a desirable level — less than 120/80 mm Hg — exercise can keep it from rising as you age. Regular exercise also helps you maintain a healthy weight, another important way to control blood pressure.
But to keep your blood pressure low, you need to keep exercising. It takes about one to three months for regular exercise to have an impact on your blood pressure. The benefits last only as long as you continue to exercise.

Question: How do you get red blood cells back fast after losing blood? I just got a blood transfusion and I have to run a 5mile marathon tomorrow. I didn't get to pick the day I got the blood transfusion, I had to do it today.
How can I get red blood cells back after losing blood?
Answer: Iron I believe helps build blood, but it's possible to overdose. Eat Spinach. Get some rest.
Question: What exactly is blood pressure and what are the risks if you have high blood pressure? Im curious? I went to an eye appointment the other day, and they took my blood pressuure. They said that it was a bit higher then normal, and honestly im scared. What is high blood pressure and what does it cause? Also, are there ways to help lower blood pressure?
Answer: High blood pressure is when your blood vessels (the tubes that carry blood around your body) are slightly narrower for some reason causing pressure inside them. It could be due to cholesterol (which is like plaque that builds up in your blood vessels). A high calorie diet with inadequate exercise could cause cholesterol build up. Very high blood pressure due to very high cholesterol levels can lead to heart attack and stroke if not dealth with. However, some people's blood pressure has times when it goes high for a little while. Maybe you should get them to check your cholesterol level. Then they will be able to tell you whether or not it is due to something serious or not.
Question: What causes blood velocity to increase when blood goes from the capillaries to the veins? What causes blood velocity to increase when blood goes from the capillaries to the veins?
Answer: energy, mass and momentum are conserved even as the vessels norrow, so to make up for the decreased area, the blood picks up speed. it can be shown by the equation A1V1=A2V2
A is area
V is velocity.
the more you narrow the vessel the faster it is going to go. It is kinda of like when you have a hose, and then you put your finger to restrict the flow, the water shoots out at a much greater velocity and distance.
Question: How long can a person have blood infection? The reason I ask is that i would basically like to know if it is possible for an infection to enter the system even if it was mild, and how long bacteria would be in the blood?
I had two infections in one go, both treated with antibiotics, I was still feeling ill so I had some blood tests including Full Blood Count and Blood Cultures among other tests, the tests all came back perfectly clear. But I have been getting worse and I am now getting told that it is all psychological.
However, I would like to know how long a person can have blood infection/sepsis? Would having had antibiotics mask the test results?
Answer: Very good questions. I cannot answer them, I am sorry, but I will advise that you get a second opinion from someone other than the one who told you it was in your head. A blood infection is very serious, and can be difficult to diagnose as well. Get yourself to another doctor ASAP, and tell them your worries. Doctors are not omnipotent, but they do have egos, and they don't like being challenged in their diagnoses, so maybe that's where the "in your head" business came from. They tend to stick to diagnosing and treating the usual, common maladies, so you need to be proactive. Just keep being a pest til you get treatment that makes you feel better. Good luck and take care!
Question: How to lower high blood pressure in healthy teen? I'm 16 and have inherited high blood pressure from my mom. They have ran numerous tests(kidneys, blood, urine, etc) and have found all to be normal. I am athletic and eat rather healthy compared to most teenagers. I rarely ever drink soda and never add salt to my food. What are some ways to lower my blood pressure? Eat more fruits and vegetables? Drink more water? I REALLY do not want to live the rest of my life taking a pill to keep my blood pressure low.
Answer: Try increasing your exercise and reducing your stress levels by not worrying. Meditation is good for lowering blood pressure too.
Question: How soon would you reduce blood pressure with exercise? How long before you begin to see a change? If I exercised for at least one hour on a treadmill a day, 7 days a week, how long before I'd notice a drop in blood pressure? Would it begin to take effect in under 6 months or no? I don't know if I'm phrasing this correctly, but I just would basically like to find out how long it would take for my blood pressure to start dropping if I were to adopt a healthier lifestyle and exercise (because I'm fairly sedentary due to my job). Thanks. (I'm looking for expert advice or advice from people who have lowered their blood pressure or know of someone who has. My goal is to lower my blood pressure and by extension my resting heart rate.) :)
I'm not on medication. I used to have okay blood pressure, then through a series of traumatic events, I began eating a lot. I was severely depressed and I gained like 70 lbs. Horrible I know, but I was on medication depressed and I was practically suicidal. I'm better now and I want to work on myself, and be healthy and live a nice long life, but I don't want to be on medication for blood pressure or cholesterol so I want to lose the weight I've amassed. Is it possible or unlikely that if I lose the weight I've gained, and maybe a little more, through diet and exercise (focusing on whole grains/fiber, etc..) that I could return to a healthy blood pressure number? Or is it impossible to lose weight and exercise and eat a healthy diet to lower blood pressure? I would really rather avoid medication if it's at all possible because I feel like if it's through my own sedentary lifestyle and eating habits that I got this way, I would rather fix the problem than put a bandaid on it.
Answer: It is good that you want to lower your blood pressure by exercise. Yes, it will lower it by exercise. I have a family history of High Blood Pressure and heart disease. I have to watch my diet and exercise. I don't exercise that much, neither does my dad, but he is also on blood pressure medication, he noticed in a week. I am not on medication, but I also practice deep breathing and I lower mine within that time frame. I don't exercise as much, only when I feel like it. I try. My Blood pressure wasn't that high though. Mine use to be low, but went up because of some cold medication, we finally figured out what caused mine to go way up. Good for you for getting motivated.
Here is some information on a website for you. I know it talks about medication, which I don't think you are on, which is good. It just happens to be on here. Good luck on getting healthier.:http://seniorhealth.about.com/library/howto/htbp.htm
Here's How:
Lose weight if you are overweight. Losing ten pounds can have a dramatic effect on blood pressure.
Exercise daily. At least 20 minutes of aerobic exercise is recommended.
Read nutrition labels, especially on convenience foods. Choose foods low in sodium (salt). Most fast-food restaurants post nutrition information in their stores.
Reduce or limit alcohol intake.
Stop smoking.
Reduce stress in your life as much as is possible.
Untreated sleep apnea can contribute to high blood pressure. If you snore heavily or feel tired even after a full night sleep, ask your doctor for an evaluation.
Follow your doctor's orders and take prescription medications as ordered.
Tips:
Even a small amount of weight loss can lower blood pressure.
Sudden, significant elevations in blood pressure should be reported immediately.
Never discontinue a blood pressure medication except on the advice of your physician.
Question: What are the blood vessels of the umbilical cord called? Also, is the mothers blood carried thourgh these blood vessels?
What is the direction of blood flow in these vessels?
Answer: The two umbilical arteries (sometimes there is only one and this is a fairly common congenital defect) carry dexoygenated blood from the fetus to the placenta. The umbilical vein carries oxygenated blood from the placenta back to the fetus. Normally, none of the mother's blood is in these vessels.
