Question: Why is phosphorous so over looked when it comes to bone health? Aren't most people consuming WAY more then they need too and a lot less calcium then they should, so why isn't reduction in phosphorous pushed as well upping calcium?
Thanks!
Answer: Something tells me you arent talking about homeopathics... ;)
It's a good question! You're absolutely right. Most laypeople are not aware that calcium absorption and phosphorous levels are related at all.
High levels of phosporhous will affect parathyroid hormone levels and negatively feed back on calcitonin... effectively preventing calcium deposition in bone and increasing calcium excretion/decreasing absorption.
I cannot speak to whether most docs address phosphorous intake with their patients, but I can tell you that it's among the first conversations I have with my patients with osteopenia/osteoporosis! (Only some of whom are surprised by the connection.)
Good for you for helping to increase awareness of this often overlooked, important factor in maintaining bone health!
Question: Exercise is critical to both bone and muscle health. What is the impact of aerobic exercise on muscles, bones Exercise is critical to both bone and muscle health. What is the impact of aerobic exercise on muscles, bones and joints? How about weight lifting?
Answer: in terms of increasing bone mineral density only weight bearing exercises accomplish that. aerobics would be insufficient for protection against osteoporosis, resistance training is optimum for that.

Question: What factor does skin play in bone health?
Answer: If you didn't have skin, then your bones would not be healthy. And vice versa.
Actually, your skin is an important part of getting Vitamin D. Exposing your skin to the sun promotes Vitamin D synthesis. Vitamin D is essential for absorption of calcium - which is essential for your bones.
Question: What fruits and vegetables are best for bone health?
Answer: Green leafy vegetables, they are a very good plant based source of calcium.
The calcium in green leafy vegetables is very bio-availble for humans, which means we can digest and absorb it very efficiently.
While cows milk has lots of calcium it is very hard for the body to digest and to absorb, not to mention that its around half saturated fat, which we have no dietary requirement for.

Question: what are the best foods for joint and bone health? especialy for a really skinny person.
Answer: lol, a really skinny person. well you do need calcium. which is only in milk, and other dairy stuff. Avoid cokes because that crap makes your bones weak from all the chemicals it contains. Also working out and strenght training gives you strong muscles, I cant really remember how that works but I did study it in biology. ^_^
Question: What are the best foods to eat for bone health?

Question: Are the current AI and UL for vitamin D appropriate and is vitamin D as important in bone health as calcium?
Answer: vitamin D helps ur intestines abosorb calcium instead of having to take it from your bones. when we get calcium from our bones it makes our bones too soft. most of vitamin is in the skin and the uv light from the skin helps convert it to an active form of vitamin d. the sun is where most of the vitamin d is obtained, but it is still important to include it in your diet.
i am sorry i dont know what al and ul for vitamin D are.

Answer: When I lived in China last year, Chinese people literally ate their chicken, bones and all! For every meal. No joke.
If it works for like a 5th of the worlds population, it will probably work for you.
I guess as long as the chicken doesn't have TB, and you aren't eating it raw, or live...
