Question: Food For Thought... Can you recommend some "brain" foods and recipes? I have always heard people say that the foods that best help maintain your memory are fish and almonds. Are there any others? And can you share some quick recipes (of any sort, even if they are ethnic).
Thanks in Advance.
Answer: According to this website, these are the 5 top "brain" foods:
1.) Wild salmon, 2.) Cocao beans (and by that they don't mean the chocolate many of us are addicted to!), 3.) Matcha (Tencha-grade green tea powder), 4.) Acai berries & Blueberries, 5.) Coffee beans

Question: What foods are considered brain foods? I have a standardized test in 3 months which I am now preparing for. During my class I took to prepare for it they suggested eating an equal amount of carbs, protein, and unsaturated fats. Also foods high in potassium. Pretty much brain foods.
So far on my list I have:
Fish and other sea foods
Whole Wheat Pasta
Whole Wheat Bread
Eggs
Avocados
Bananas
Kiwi
Mixed nuts
I'm writing out recipes so my mom can make more brain food meals during the next 3 months.
Are there any other brain foods?

Boil them in seasoned water- Cover with water, add salt, pepper and a little olive oil. Boil until tender.

Question: What's a unique food I can make for my wife? I'm looking for some recipe or something for a real treat of a meal. Something incredibly difficult but also really good. I'm looking to impress her with the effort I put into it, and also prepare something out of the ordinary. She seems to prefer italian foods over things like chinese. Also please nothing too gross like haggis or something. I'd like to eat normal foods. Pig's feet or squirrel brains or fish heads are a negative. I need it to be with ingredients I can actually acquire too. Beer-battered Bald Eagle won't work for me. Any ideas?
Answer: Menù
Affettati in cestino di pane - A bread bowl with salami & prosciutto
700 g (1,5 lb) simple bread dough
4 tablespoons dried chives
100 g (3 1/2 oz) boiled ham, sliced
100 g (3 1/2 oz) San Daniele or Parma ham (prosciutto crudo), sliced
100 g (3 1/2 oz) salami, sliced
6 little artichokes in oil
Prepare the simple bread dough following the instructions. Add 4 tablespoons dried chives to the ingredients. Let the dough rest in a warm place for about a couple of hours.
Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F). Divide the dough into three parts. Using a long pasta rolling pin, roll out one part of the dough on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of 2 cm (3/4 in). Using a pastry brush, oil the external base and side of a dish soufflé. Press the dough on the base and up the side of the dish. Try to shape in the best way the edge.
With the remaining dough create little round loaves or plaited ones.
Bake in the oven for about 15 minutes. This time is enough for your bread bowl; probably it is necessary more time for loaves.
Let the bread around the dish soufflé cool very well before removing it.
At this point arrange the rolled up slices of prosciutto and salami inside the bread bowl together with artichokes in oil.
Serve with loaves.
Fettuccine al profumo di caviale - Caviar-flavored pasta
50 g (1 3/4 oz) caviar
15 quail eggs
1 red and 1 yellow pepper (capsicum),grilled and skinned (also frozen)
2 young little onion (or 1/4 onion), finely chopped
2 tablespoons dried chives
8 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
50 ml (2 fl oz - 1/4 C) dry white wine
Salt
250 g (8 1/2 oz) egg fettuccine
Boil the quail eggs for 3-4 minutes.
Prepare the sauce. Place the oil in a large saucepan; add the onion, the peppers cut into thin strips, chives and wine. Bring to the boil and cook over a low flame until the cooking sauce is reduced. Season with salt.
Shell the quail eggs and cut into halves. Plunging the cooked eggs into very cold water as they are cooked helps loosen the shell.
While you're cooking fettuccine, prepare a large bowl with caviar; mix the caviar with 4-6 tablespoons boiling water.
Drain fettuccine "al dente", transfer to the saucepan with pepper sauce, stir with a wooden spoon over a fierce heat.
Therein lies the secret: finish cooking the pasta in the sauce! Pour the pasta into the bowl, stirring gently, garnish with the quail eggs and serve immediately.

Question: Does anyone remember the 90's toy set that consisted of Monster Food or Monster Drink recipes? There were two separate sets, one was monster food the other was monster drink. The food set allowed you to create monster brains, monster skin and a gummy candy similar to Creepy Crawlers. The drink set allowed you to create monster warts and a couple others I don't remember. What were the actual names of these sets?
I don't recall if the mixing bowl was shaped like a skull but I do remember the cup/bowl the monster brains were served in were definitely shaped like skulls.

Answer: Cocktail sausages with quater of tomato skin on the end to look like witches finger and finger nail.
Coke with icecream in to to make it fizz to look like witched broth.
Black olive to look like eye balls.
Rice cakes with veggie paste in a pattern to look like spiders webs.
Cut holes in to potatoes and whip up some veggie sauce to fill it with.
Take some tortilla wraps and cut bat shapes out. Bake them with a little oil and cheese.
Preheat the oven to 400F (200C, Gas Mark 6), and wash and prick the baking potatoes. Place the potatoes directly on the rack of the oven for approximately 1 hour, until done.
Remove the potatoes and cool completely. Slice each potato in half and then, with a spoon, scoop out most of the soft potato from the inside and place in a bowl. Leave a little potato on the skin as this will help keep the shape of the remaining skin and make it easier to fill.
Place the skins on a foil lined cookie sheet.
Add the shredded cheese and salsa or taco sauce to the potato in the bowl. Mash together well with a fork, then carefully spoon the potato mixture back into the skins. Add more ketchup to the top of potato to look like dripping blood.
Place the potatoes back in the oven for 10 minutes to melt the cheese a little and crisp up the skins.
Good luck!!!.
Question: Is it true that one persons idea of a food can make another person sick to their stomach or very ill? Like mountain oysters or Bull Balls soup or even monkey brains. In some parts of the world those are a delicacy.
Well I just asked for a recipe for fried mucous plugs and someone reported it as a violation before I could write down any recipes. Dang, will people never learn to live and let live? What is this world coming to? An all vanilla flavor?
Answer: I hear that mucous plug is amazing! I however did not get mine:( They sucked it out with everything else (c-section) But next time (if there is a next time) I will ask for it and have you over for dinner if your interested!
Question: halloween food recipes or ideas? I want to make something special for halloween, in hte spirit of the holiday. I love Halloween so please give me some ideas of what to make. Anything besides noodles as hair and topped with spaghetti sauce as brain matter. Also, not hotdogs wrapped as mumies or hotdogs in a coffin. Thank you! (Lastly, recipes must not have marshmellows in it nor any kind of pork or seafood.)
I should probably add that you CAN use the spaghetti and hotdog idea as long as it has a unique twist on it (but still not using and pork or pork based ingredients (like most gelatin)
Sorry, no alcohol either. I don't drink it, I can't drink it, I won't ever drink it, and also, I'm not 21 yet, so I don't have vodka.
Answer: HALLOWEEN FUNNEL CAKES
2 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 cups milk
2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
few drops vanilla (optional)
powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar (for sprinkling)
large funnel
about 2 cups vegetable oil (for deep frying)
Stir together flour, baking powder and salt.
In a medium bowl, beat eggs and stir in milk until well combined.
Add flour mixture to egg mixture and whisk together until smooth.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep, heavy bottomed pan (cast iron works well).
When oil is very hot (about 375F) pour the batter through the funnel to form a steady stream; fry about 3 minutes or until golden brown, turning once, then for another minute or until equally browned on both sides. Remove using a slotted spoon to paper towels to drain. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar or for Halloween treats, drizzle with orange icing. Serve accompanied with syrup, if desired.
Tip: Fry the funnel cakes in batches (about 4). It helps to use a frying thermometer, but if you don't have one, test the oil temperature by cutting a 1 inch square piece of bread and dropping it into the hot oil. It should brown in 1 minute; if it browns more quickly, turn the heat down. If it takes longer than 1 minute to brown, turn the temperature up very slightly and try this test again in 5 minutes.
An easy method of dusting the cakes: toss into clean brown paper bags into which has been added a few tablespoons of sugar, then shake to coat. Small lunch bags are great for individual servings and for Halloween treats.

Question: A Brain Tumour problem, can anyone help? A friend I am caring for has Glioblasto Multiforme, which is hugely aggressive - he has had 6 weeks of Radio Therapy, we have recently finished with the steroids and have only a mood leveling pill Olanzapine. He has recently taken to his bed, it is winter here in New Zealand. he slept alot, stopped eating and drinking, I could not get him to take his medicine, he has thrush on his tongue because of lack of food and water etc, does anyone know of certain recipes of foods which may be appetising to a cancer patient? The tumour he has is on the Left Temporal lobe - this part of your brain is responsible for movement, emotions and logic & reasoning, his mental state regresses to one of a 10 year old child at times? Please can anyone help? Please feel free to share your experiences...
Answer: My wife had brain tumors and much of the treatments that you described. The thrush is from the radiation treatments as I recall. Her appetite went to nothing. She had to be tube fed for the last 14 months of her life. At the end she was only consuming one can per day of the feeding solution. She should have been consuming six cans for normal nutrition.
I suspect that he is aware of his condition and aware of his prognosis. His unwillingness to take part in his own treatment is actually his intention. I think that he has accepted that he is going to die and soon. I cried when my wife resisted eating. I was selfish. I wanted her to stay alive as long as possible, but life for her was unbearable agony.
Be his friend. Make sure that you tell him how you feel about him, regret is timeless. I am very glad that I told my wife how much I loved her and why. God bless you both and good luck.
