Question: How does the brain tend to function during diseases? Does an optimist's brain function differ from a pessimist? Is there any relation? Does the brain even function abnormally during a disease?
Answer: I cannot tell you the difference between an optimist and pessimist brain because it is not a medically valid distinction. However, I could tell you the difference between normal and depressed brain since people with depression are sometimes considered pessimistic.
The neurological/biological differences in depressed individuals include: abnormal communication between neurons due to decreased activation of the neurotransmitters serotonin and nor-epinephrine (noradrenalin). Abnormality in their reward circuit due to genetic mutations of dopamine receptors. These are just biological causes which gives certain predisposition to mood disorders. Other forms of depression can be very common and have no biological derivatives (death of relatives, etc).
To answer the question about abnormal brain functioning during diseases: this is a very broad question. It depends on what disease you're talking about. If you're talking about a viral, prion or bacterial infection, those that could spread to the brain will cause encephalitis and brain damage. If you're talking about syndromes and noninfectious diseases, there are very specific disorder that only effect the brain such as neuroplegia or Alzheimer's.
Question: How would l go about utilizing more of my brain function as the average human only uses less then 10%? I am trying to find out if there is ways to increase brain function and/or size, and l regularly study so my intelligence is above average but l still require more knowledge in neural science and other areas due to come research l am looking into and a few prototypes l plan on building. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
Answer: Yes, that magic 10% figure is really misleading. It means only 10% is active, but can you really use more? Increasing blood flow by using more can be damaging and firing more neurons could alter your conciousness. That figure is normal and has been the result of millions of years evolution.
But hey, lets say you want to use more than 10% (which is an average after all). There are many exercises you can do to improve multitasking and intelligence. Here are but a few ...
1. Do exercises to improve your memory. associating pictures or colours with objects or numbers is a great way and there are many sources for this daily exercise.
2. Brush your teeth with your other hand. Yes it can create new connections and give your brain a wake up call in the morning.
3. Wiggle your toes before you get out of bed. this improves circulation so you wake up clearer.
4. Try a new hobby like crosswords or sodoku.
5. Learn to speed read.
6. You can try meditation to iprove your hippocampus (the brains filter) this can really give you a less hazed view of the world and lead to better concentration.
7. Eat healthier.
But if I had to sum it up .... do something new every day!!
Question: What are some foods that are good for the brain's function? What are some good foods that helps the brain function better, such as memory?
Answer: Carrots and potatoes
Question: Can anyone describe The Primary Neurotransmitters and their Role in Brain Function and Behavior in? Can anyone describe to me The Primary Neurotransmitters and their Role in Brain Function and Behavior in people committing suicide due to anti-depressants?
Answer: Anti-depressants are related to suicide, just to set that other answerer straight. As for the science of it, I don't think anyone (including doctors) can describe it very accurately, largely due to the fact that they don't know.
Question: How can I make my brain healthier/boost brain function? Are there any dietary supplements or special foods that have been proven to boost brain function?
What about omega 3 fatty acids?
Will exercise help?
Answer: The DHA in fish oil is supposed to be good for your brain.
Question: Can playing solitaire on the computer add to brain function? There are exercises one can do to improve brain function as one ages. Is playong solitaire one of those exercises?
Answer: Hey! Any game that stimulates the brain and makes you think and try to figure puzzels out is a good exercise! I think solitare would be a very good example of this, as well as memory games and logic games (such as sudoku, etc). Crosswords, word finds, board games such as upword, scrabble (and even strategy games such as monopoly or battleships, etc) are all very good at maintaining and keeping good brain functions. It has also been shown through studies that it helps keep away dementia and alzheimers. I hope this has been helpful. I wish you the best!!!
Question: Does covering your head with a blanket while sleeping affects your brain function? I received an email saying that covering your head with a blanket or a comforter while sleeping affects your brain function.
Im a bit alarmed with the email I got. The email also says that "no breakfast" affects your brain function too.
I cannot sleep without covering my head with a blanket. I do not eat breakfast as well.
Can these affect the function of my brain?
Answer: No, covering your head with a blanket while sleeping will not affect your brain function. You might feel too warm; asphyxiated or claustrophobic.
Breakfast is considered an important meal because it breaks the overnight fasting period, replenishes your supply of glucose and provides other essential nutrients to keep your energy levels up throughout the day.
Skipping breakfast
Extensive research in Australia and overseas has found:
Many children who skip breakfast are significantly heavier than those who eat breakfast.
Skipping breakfast can diminish mental performance. Breakfast helps learning, as you are better able to pay attention and are more interested in learning.
Eating high fibre breakfast cereals reduces fatigue.
Children who eat an inadequate breakfast are more likely to make poor food choices for the rest of the day and in the long term.
People who eat breakfast have more nutritious diets than people who skip breakfast, and have better eating habits as they are less likely to be hungry for snacks during the day.
‘Going without’ becomes more common with advancing age - approximately 15 per cent of teenagers and one third of adults don’t eat breakfast.
Question: can the Brain draw fat reserves from the rest of the body and function efficiently through a day? i.e How long can the brain function efficiently without food?
Answer: Don't even go there! Why do you want to starve yourself! Please read this http://optimalbodyweight.com/blog/motivational/lose-weight-by-fixing-your-life-with-tony-robbins
Question: Does reading help your brain function better? I've read different things that said reading helps your brain function better and your vocabulary is much higher. Also, I've read that people who are high school drop outs that read a lot are 'smarter' than people who did not drop out. Is this true? What are other facts about people who read -every day-.
Thank you.
Answer: Reading stimulates the brain and thus helps in your understanding of things. In that sense you could say reading makes you smarter.
Question: Can having poor circulation affect brain function? I know that every cell in your body requires oxygen to function. Some cells can function without oxygen for longer periods than others, but all cells will eventually die without oxygen. Brain cells die relatively quickly without oxygen - when brain cells die you lose brain function.
I have crappy circulation. I know this because my hands, feet, and even nose have a purple color and they're cold most of the time. Does this have anything to do with my brain also? :/
Answer: no it cant
Question: Why does this indicate about someone's natural brain function? What does clearer thought when hung over (alcohol only) indicate about someone's normal brain function? What's happening in the brain or what is not happening that this could occur?
Answer: If you think you have clearer thought when hung over, it shows that you were very unclear while drunk. When you sober up and the effects of the hangover are gone, I hope you will think much clearer than you did before you got drunk and decide to not do it again. What is happening in the brain, is alcohol is killing nerve cells, and the brain is not functioning normally. The more you drink, the more your brain function will become permanently impaired.
Question: do vitamins for increased brain function really work? vitamins such as mind power rx and focus factor claim to improve brain function. is there any truth to this or is it all bull?
Answer: Just take a multvitamin tablet a day, and cod liver oil capsule.
Question: Are dreams a function of the brain? Or, is dreaming independent of the brain - and more spiritual? Do we dream at night because we have a brain? Or, are our dreams more like spiritual and irrelevant to having a brain?
I feel if the answer is that dreams are not dependent on having a brain, then the notion of an Afterlife and spirit is more believable. However, if dreaming does depend on brain function, then the notion of Afterlife becomes less believable.
This of course is with the assumption that dreaming is a spiritual thing, and that spirit is related to the Afterlife.
Answer: Its the brain.
(most dreams are a mix of things you have thought and pictured in your week/lifetime,you can picture a single item and it can spin an in-tire dream from it)
Some dreams can be made up of things, you are worried about but you have not fully understood, wile your awake.
Others can be random and be a collection of anything.
Question: Does Wobenzym help with memory issues and brain function? My father sent me Wobenzym to help me with brain function and memory issues, but the bottle reads as though it is primarily for inflammation of joints and pain. Do you know if it also helps with brain function?
This is a natural remedy, by the way. It is based on enzyme therapy.
Answer: Wobenzym - what your body has
been aching for!
Wobenzym is an enzyme preparation originally designed in Germany in the 1960s and is a natural anti-inflammatory with many additional health benefits.
Although its original use was primarily to treat osteoarthritis, studies have revealed that Wobenzym lowers C-reactive protein levels (a marker of chronic infection in the body) on average by 30%!
The latest research, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, has documented that individuals with high levels of C-reactive protein have up to 6 times the likelihood of a heart attack or strokes as individuals with lower levels.
In addition, Wobenzym acts as a natural and safe alternative to anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen.
Furthermore, some Olympic teams have used Wobenzym to reduce injuries by as much as 50% and to enhance healing after injury. This is partly due to the bioflavonoids ability to prevent the discoloration and local pain associated with traumatic injuries. For these same reasons, leading surgeons now routinely prescribe Wobenzym to prevent bruising and edema and the associated pain for their post-surgical patients.
As more and more uses of Wobenzym are discovered, the list of health problems benefiting from Wobenzym continues to grow and include:
Reducing the incidence of blood clots, known to be induced by the sudden breakdown of vulnerable plaque.
Improving feelings of well-being due to its antioxidant effects.
Reducing the incidence of heart attacks and strokes because of its anti-thrombotic, anti-spasmodic, anti-arrhythmic and cholesterol lowering abilities.
Helping to resolve many of the molecular features of aging.
Providing protection from environmental toxins in the air, water and food.
Treating autoimmune and rheumatic illnesses, such as osteo and rheumatoid arthritis, joint and muscle pain.
Benefiting viral injection treatments for herpes, cancer and Hepatitis C.
Lowering inflammation involved in allergies and alleviates the symptoms for the sufferer.
Dosage:
A common maintenance dose is 3 to 5 tablets twice daily, although the Cancer Treatment Centers of America routinely prescribe 10 tablets three times daily. Ideally Wobenzym should be taken at least 30 minutes before meals or 60 minutes after meals. The optimum time to take it is just before bedtime and immediately upon arising.
Side effects:
Wobenzym is formulated with natural nutrients, it is safe and effective with no known side effects. It can be taken regularly and with confidence to reduce pain and enhance the functioning of organs and bodily systems.
This product is safe it is not a drug. It is all natural. People that do not know about it will tell you wrong info about it.
Any Health Food store can assure you of its purity and its great effects.
God likes vitamins and herbs and minerals. So even if you get hands laid on you, it will not interfere with this product that is natural. I used to sell it all the time at Ivy's Bridge To Better Health.
