Camping
Question: camping?...? i dont know if i should take my 2 pugs with my family were going camping for my birthday and i love both of them but at the camp grounds you cant leave your dog alone because they think the'll "disturb wildlife" and they cant be on a leash longer than 6ft
so then i feel bad because i dont think i could take them in the tent, and i dont wanna leave them outside tied up because im not sure what wild animals there are.
PLEASE HELP!!!
im like really confused
p.s. it would be a 1.5 hr drive in the car
i cant put a run because it will ruin the soil thats what it said and i dont wanna leave them in a kennel and i read that there are racoons, and opossioms
well i guess i could put them in the tent but the thing is that there brother and sister and im kinda afraid that hes gonna try to.... and he barks at cats and other animals in my backyard
they will be 2 years old (human years)
in December
my mom dosent want to spray daisy (my girl pug) because she is white w/ brown spots and maby wants to breed her but we are going to neuter bandit (my boy pug) and i want to bring them this would be their 1st camping trip and i think they would enjoy it
Answer: We take our dogs camping all the time and they love it. When they see us getting out the camping supplies they go crazy. If yo are that concerned kennel them or have someone watch them while you go but they love it! Here is what we take when we bring our Deaf Jack Russell Terrier and Lab/Pointer Mix camping with us:
extendable leashes 1 for each dog
short leashes 1 for each dog ( good for being in canoes)
chains or rope to tie to tree or bumper of van so the dogs can be outside with us when we are at the campsite and they can't run loose
Water and food bowls
plastic bags to pick up poop
first aid kit for dogs (most pet stores carry them)
collapseable pen- you can find these at pet stores and places like that. They fold up so they don't take up uch room when you aren't using them. They unfold and they are usually 4x4 so they can be comfortable. my only suggestion would be to get stakes of some kind to secure the pen to the ground so they can't knock it over
Plenty of toys
Towels and blankets for them to lay on and clean them up when they get in the tent with you
Treat them for ticks/fleas a few days before you leave. I like Advantix because it keeps, ticks, fleas, mosquitos and all the babies off. Vet or Pet Store
Plenty of treats for them
Keep this stuff in a separate bag or tupperware container. That way you have it ready whenever you go camping again or are going out of town with the dogs. My two know what their bag looks like and they get really excited when we take it out because they know they are going somewhere. The only other advice I can give is make sure that you watch the pugs eyes when walking around in the woods or anything. As you know their eyes bug out and they can get hurt easliy. Other than that have fun and take them with you. They will love it and you will too.
Question: CaMpInG??? Ok so Im going camping 2morow and I want to know some other stuff I should bring things like Ipod ect.
Answer: IDK if 2morow means u already left...if u want 2 know stuff besides sleeping bag and pillow, it depends who u r going with and what u like2 do. Ipod is OK but it could get pretty dirty at campground, or lost/stolen. I leave expensive stuff at home. Bring camera, tho. Maybe use phone cam if u got 1. Binoculars, book if u like to read. Handheld game if u have no imagination and r oblivious to ur surroundings. Football, frisbee, or ball of some sort. Cards. Pocket knife. Flashlight. Have fun!

Question: What are some fun ideas for going camping? I'm going camping with my family and a few friends. We are going to camp at Hershey Camping Meadow and are planning on also going to Hersheypark and Paintballing while there. Anyone have any more ideas? They don't necessarily have to be other places of interests. They could be maybe, idk, something fun to do while at the camping site.
Answer: my kids always loved playing frisbie golf and aiming at trees that weren't going to have over or underthrown discs landing in the other campers sites. we would go off into forrest and use triangulating to go off and explore while tossing discs ahead for scores. Another couple of good camping games is poker with dice and dominoes. But sitting back with a book one always finds time for when in a hammock or stretched out on a nice grassy area in shade...
Question: What camping mattress do you recommend for somebody with a sore back? I'm not talking about RV camping here. I have a ThermaRest and every morning I wake up sore in my lower back. Is there something else out there that is light and packable?
Answer: I had lower back surgery a few years ago and I know what it feels like to wake up with the sore back.
How thick is your ThermaRest?
I use a RidgeRest on bottom, then a 25 inch wide, 2 inch thick ThermaRest, then a 25 inch wide and a 2.5 inch thick ThermaRest on top of that. I sleep very good and the mattresses stay in place.
You realize that you need to sleep "in" the ThermaRest, not "on". Lay down on your fully inflated setup and let air out until it is comfortable.
My 2.5 inch mattress is lighter than the 2 inch. The 2 inch is the Camp Rest which is supposed to be the warmest mattress they make.
When backpacking I carry the 2.5 inch mattress and the RidgeRest.
I have carried two RidgeRest pads and one 1.5 inch ThermaRest and been comfortable.
You will not find a better mattress than the ThermaRest, we have tried REI, Cabelos, and the rest.
Lately, we have converted to hammocks for backpacking in the warmer months. We can carry the hammock with a bug net and a fly and be lighter than carrying a tent and various pads. I can sleep on my back or my side on the hammock. If you want to go lightweight you might want to consider the hammock.
Question: How do I plan a successful camping trip without overstressing so I can enjoy it too? I'm supposed to be planning a camping 3day 2night camping trip for about 10-15 people. We want to keep it cheap and this is my first time planning my husband's squadron camp-out and it's still two weeks away and I just can't keep things organized and I'm having a hard time getting people to cooperate. Any suggestions?
Answer: My wife and I used to do this...a LOT!
We cooked breakfast every morning. Lunches were on your own. Dinners were we cooked the meat and the other campers provided the side dishes.
Everyone paid $15 toward the meals we provided. That didn't cover the actual cost, but it came pretty close because I used a lot of things from home that I already had. Salt and pepper shakers, cooking oil, margarine, etc.
Pancakes are cheap. Scrambled eggs with bits of ham and cheese is easy. Potatoes are cheap. I had an electric table top griddle that I used for breakfast. We camped where they had hook-ups.
Everyone is responsible to provide their own sleeping equipment and ice chests, etc.
You either want to get what is called a "group site", or several camping "spaces" together. Ask the park ranger how many vehicles are allowed per space. The more people you can get in a space, the cheaper the space.
Find out if there is someone in the squadron that has access to free firewood.
Distribute lists of what each person is responsible for. They need to bring 2 lunches for themselves and provide a side dish for 2 dinners for the group. Their $15, will provide 3 breakfasts and 2 dinners. They need to bring their own plates. utensils, and drinks.
Have set meal times for breakfast and dinner. Since they are on their own for lunch, you will have all day to enjoy yourself.
You can plan some games, or get someone else who would like to do that. Water-filled balloon toss. Hairy man contest. Whatever you think would work with the group you have.
Sitting around the fire in the evening is a great time to share "The Most Embarrassing Moment" story, or who can tell the biggest lie.
You can do any variations on this you want. Depending on budget, where the money comes from, what if anything you are able to get donated. You may find a store that is willing to donate if "Squadron" indicates your husband and other campers are in the military.
You can find junk in your garage, such as an old fuel pump or something and write "Hairy Man Trophy" on it with a magic marker. Much more fun than the real thing.
You are limited by your imagination much more than you are by lack of helpful participants. You will be finding people willing to help out when you actually get there.
Question: What is a good camping place on the Comal River that is close to Schlitterbahn? Going to Schlitterbahn in July and we are planning on camping while there. What is a good place to camp along the Comal River that is also close to Schlitterbahn?

Question: Where can I go tent camping in Wisconsin without bothering with the State Parks and/or reserved camp grounds? Any ideas? A couple friends and I would like to go camping no further than 4-5 hours away from Chicago without bothering with State Park nonsense, etc... Is this possible? Any stories good or bad? We're planning on next weekend and we'll be bringing everything we need, and are prepared to rough it in a beautiful setting. Thanks ahead of time!
Answer: Any National Forest near you will allow primitive camping, for free, unless otherwise posted. Maintained campgrounds, even in these forests, may charge a fee...they are providing water, waste disposal, etc. and can't do that for free. There is one forest in Wisconsin, and another in Illinois...I don't know enough about their location, relative to where you live, to know which would be the closer.
Question: Where can I go tent camping in Minnesota withouth bothering with the State Parks and/or reserved camp grounds? Any ideas? A couple friends and I would like to go camping no further than 3-4 hours away from the Twin Cities without bothering with State Park nonsense, etc... Is this possible? Any stories good or bad? We're planning on next weekend (2nd wknd October) and we'll be bringing everything we need, and are prepared to rough it in a beautiful setting. Thanks ahead of time!
Answer: Northeast of the twin cities is the Chequamegon National Forest
http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/cnnf/
which allows dispersed camping outside of campgrounds. Once you're on federal land you can pretty much camp where you please. Just follow a Forest Service road and you'll probably find a nice campsite right on a lake.
Question: Outdoor nature camping , where to start to live a life of wilderness? I'm looking to do outdoor camping in Quebec Canada.
I'm wondering if people just go out in the woods with sleeping bags and make fires and stay there.
Or do you actually need to be authorized to make fires in the woods and sleep there. If so are there any organizations that inform you on the procedure?
Answer: Where I live I'm fortunate enough to be surrounded by the Allegheny National Forest. We don't need fire permits, or hiking permits. We can go stay in the same spot for up to 14 days before we have to move a certain distance away. My Allegheny National Forest is mine to use when i want because I'm a taxpaying American citizen. If you don't live in the land of the free, ya may want to check out local laws and regulations. Tidioute-West Hickory!! Allegheny River, ANF!!
Question: Do you have any fun camping, hiking and travel recipes for Summer snacks? My family is planning a lot of camping, hiking and local travel to recreation areas this Summer. I am wanting to put together a list of ideas and recipes for some easy fun trail mixes, camping, hiking and travel food that my children can help me prepare.. Snacks and foods that carry easy with little to no mess or a lot of clean up, store easy and won't melt or go bad fast in the Summer heat... Kid friendly snacks would be great! Thank you in advance.. Have a great Summer!
Answer: I suggest you search for Girl Scout recipes. There are several web sites that provide an abundance of recipes for outdoor use.
I like gorp. It used to be made of Post Sugar Crisp, M&Ms, and peanuts. It's an energy snack. One has to be careful today with the various allergies children have.
Dried fruit "chips" (slices) are fun to make and easy to carry and eat. Banana, apricot, apple, peach, all make good chips. Banana and apple are the least messy.
Question: What are the 5 best camping areas on the Northern Coast of California? We are looking for great camping areas north of San Francisco along the coast. We want to stay fairly close to the ocean, have dogs, bikes, hiking shoes and a tent. We will go as far as the Oregon border but hopefully not that far.
We hope to stay in 2-3 different locations with different environments.
What are your favorite camping areas and why?
Thanks so much!
Answer: My favorites are:
Van Damme State Park just south of Mendocino. This park has a sheltered cove that is great for kayaking (tours available), and a really nice trail up the Little River. Mendocino is worth a visit.
Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park (Elk Prairie Campground). This park has wonderful redwood forests. Don't miss the drive out to the coast. The hike through Fern Canyon is a must.
Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park (almost to the Oregon border, but the best campground on the list). This is a spectacular campground on the banks of the Smith River. Stout Grove is just across the river from the campground and is one of the most magnificent groves of redwoods I've ever seen. The drive on Howland Hill road is incredible (dirt road, passable in most cars).
Not bad:
MacKerricher State Park. On the coast with lots of harbor seals.
Humboldt Redwoods State Park, Albee Creek Campground (may not have trailer sites). The nearby Rockefeller Forest is the largest old-growth redwood forest left in California. Rumors are that the tallest tree in the world is in this grove, but the people who measure these things are pretty secretive.
Question: How to have a romantic experience camping? The girl I am dating I are going to go camping the second weekend of May, and I was wondering what I can do to make it romantic. We are going to a National Park to go camping. I was planning on making a fire and smores. What do I need to take and any games or ideas? We are up for anything sensual.
We are using a tent
Answer: Try camping at a lake or near the seashore. The sound of the waves is way cool (Better than iPod), and it's easy to keep the fire stoked with driftwood (watch out for wet wood though).
Have a couple of rectangular sleeping bags that can be hooked together instead of the warmer mummy bags.
Baby Wipes. No matter how hard you try, you will get funky and grimy. Nothing will make her feel less attactive and romantic than a gritty body.
Get about six citronella candles to surround your campsite (Don't put them in the tent). Bug spray smells bad and tastes worse.
Take along a couple extra, clean flannel blankies to wrap up in while watching the fire and listening to the waves....
Question: What type of camping stove can burn anything? I know there is a type of camping stove that can burn pretty much anything (vodka, meths, petrol, other fuel). I know it has a pump on it, and on the other side of the reservoir is the filler cap. It looks like a dual fuel stove, but these seem only to be able to burn its two fuels. Am I wrong?
Answer: No Dude you're not wrong, but you can only find them in Army surplus store's and they're kinda rare, But I've seen them in surplus cataloges too, They are kindof cool.
Question: How to surprise my husband a camping trip? I want to surprise my husband with a camping trip for our 1 year anniversary. We both LOVE to camp and this seems like the perfect time. I just don't know how to pull this one off with out him knowing what going on. I want to take him to the Texas coast but he will know where were going when he see's the highway.... Or maybe I should just tell him??? Who knows??? Any ideas?
Answer: You`ll probably have to tell him you`re going camping, he`ll see all the gear and food in the car anyway. But that doesnt mean he has to know where exactly you are going...
