Chemicals In Meat
Question: With all the toxic chemicals in meat, why haven't meat eaters grown milk mustaches?
Answer: As a previous veggie this cracks me up! What's even funnier is that you have people trying to answer the question with logic, absolutely awesome! You are funny.
Question: How do artificial hormones in meat affect humans who consume these hormones? I've been told that the hormones in meat have been "dumbing us down" and limiting our brain capacity. I do not believe this is entirely true, although I do have my doubts about it. Also, how do the chemicals in meat affect the humans who consume it? All I know is that the artificial hormones cause irregular growth (growth spurts), but what else do they cause? What do the chemicals cause? Also, what about the chemicals and pesticides placed in vegetables and fruits?
Answer: All the artificial hormones and such in the meats and food supply, the pharmaceuticals in our water supply...
Many strange cancers, Alzheimer's, growth spurts,10 year old girls with 38 inch bust, boys with prostate problems or undeveloped testicles, ADHD, autism, all kinds of weird things that if you took the time to check the history of 100 years ago did not occur or had never been heard of by the medical community.
We are eating glow in the dark pretend foods, and wonder why there are miscarriages and birth defects? Giving a child sunny delight in their baby bottle made of plastic chemicals or the powdered mystery formula "milk"??
Why is this child having problems? Give him a happy meal from McD's and more soda pop, energy drinks, twinkies, skittles, and then expect normal brain development???
And then hook this cross wired brain to video games and what sort of adult do you have? take this idea a thousand fold...our future leaders, oh goody...
Question: I think I am addicted to the chemicals that people put in meat and cheese products so how I stop? I hear they are addicting and I do crave them. I have watched all the Peta videos and have become vegan and vegetarian for times but my body eventually starts craving meat again (I really don't have a problem with dairy). How can I stop this? I *know* meat is bad for you but like I said... it IS addicting!
No I am not posting this to be disrespectful to the vegans/vegetarians.
Answer: If you want to stop, you stop. It is nice to think of oneself as addicted to something, and, yes, if you are used to eating meat, you might like to think of yourself as addicted to certain dishes (are you addicted to liver?)
If you want to be a vegetarian or a vegan, then just decide that that is what you want to do and deal with it. Try thinking of yourself being in a foreign country where you cannot get a particularly favorite kind of food. Would you die? Nope. Would you suffer intense cravings? Only psychological ones, not real physical ones.
You are not in a foreign country, and you can get meat if you want to, so you have to decide if you want to, or if you know that you don't want to eat meat. Many vegetarian cookbooks do offer "meat-like" and "cheese-like" recipes. You could try those.
Question: What is the white slimy stuff I'm starting to notice in the meat that I've cooked this year? I always noticed a white substance in chicken while I cooked but this year. Ive noticed a white substance in almost every meat that I've cooked since the beginning of this year. It's a different texture too. It's kindof slimy and there's a lot of it. Looks like it is added in pockets of the meat. Are they processing meats a different way now? Are they adding new chemicals to the meat? What is this stuff?
Thanks for your responses. I know it's not fat because I've been cooking for a long time. This is something different that I've never seen before. It doesn't have the same texture as fat, it's a little more slimier
Answer: Its definitely fat. its not bad for you, but i dont like eating it.
So just cut it off.
Question: How is the meat that we get in New York? Do they put steroids and chemicals in the cows? This girl was telling me that she saw a documentary of people in slaughterhouses who sell the meat of cows even if they have a bunch of tumors all over there bodies. They just chop off all the tumors and sell the rest of the meat because they can make money off it. I've also heard chemicals are put into the animals. What kind of chemicals are these?
Answer: Every farm is going to be different, but you can probably be assured that the 'normal' meat you'd buy in the supermarket is not natural to some degree. It starts with seemingly harmless changes, such as feeding cows corn to fatten up instead of letting them graze naturally, and continues all the way up the spectrum to injecting rBGH, a hormone that causes cows to grow bigger and produce more, so that the farmer can make a larger profit.
And yes, it's known that factory farmers will use diseased animals for profit. A case that made a huge scandal? Mad-Cow disease.
Best way to avoid the carnage is to choose the vegetarian option. But if you want meat, you're going to have it, so might as well look for a brand that raises their animals organically and treats them humanely.
Question: what do grocery stores do to hamburger meat when the meat is brown in the middle and pink on the outside -? I think they are putting some kind of chemical on the meat to be able to sell it and make it look fresh
Answer: Nothing. That is the natural oxidation of the meat. The plastic they used is designed to keep the meat redder longer, so it looks prettier. But it's no chemicals or other additives. Just the natural chemical reactions of beef.
Question: Do the plastic containers leach out chemicals when used for storing dry groceries, raw meat & cooked food? My rubbermaid containers got little scratched. They are two years old. So, I thought of using them for the above mentioned purposes. I read in an article that the scratched containers are not safe to use. Would it be a problem to use even for the above said purposes?
Answer: I switched to all glass pyrex. The rubbermaid ones absorb flavorand stain, and the clear ones have the BPA that everyone is talking about in baby bottles. So I would make the switch if I were you. An added plus to the pyrex ones is that they are completely reusable, and when you are done they are recyclable...after 10-15 years of use!
Question: Are we really organic meat bags controlled by nerves and chemicals? If we are a design of an all powerful god then quite frankly I'm not that impressed. The way I see it scientists could probably replicate the human body in 500yrs time. I like the idea that we are some sort of cosmic accident because the chances of it happening again are so unique it makes me feel quite special.
Sorry I was just throwing it out there. I don't have anything to email.
Answer: Actually, like most animals, we are bags of mostly water. However, any animal is a wonder of complication - a single cell is hugely complicated, even without going into the DNA aparatus in any detail.
Some people think that mere complication is sufficient "proof" that an intelligence "designed" the universe. This is partly the result of a failure of mental processing. One gets the idea that they have no idea how long a year is, let alone many billions. One gets the idea that while they can understand that "success breeds success" in the business world, they can't understand it in the natural world.
Question: does animals release chemicals when they dying? i heard that animals( especially that we eat - chicken and mutton) release some chemicals out of fear when we are killing them for meat and those chemicals harm the body when we eat them. any scientific reason? Thanks in advance.
Answer: that dosn't even sound plausible from an evolution stand point, its too slow acting and depends on the creatures untimely death, which is the exact opposite of progression through natural selection.
Question: chemicals and meats question.? is it becuase of the chemicals that they they put into the meats that there is alot of fats and cholestrol in meat?
Answer: the fat and cholesterol are naturally in the meat. the chemicals are added to help prevent spoilage/////////////////////neither is salmonella
Question: What chemicals and hormones are in meats? I hear a lot of people saying that one of the reasons they avoid eating meat is because of all the chemicals and hormones that are injected into the animals, but what places do this? I grew up on a farm we had around 100 head of cattle, and I have an uncle with around 300. Neither of us give our animals drugs. We might give them antibiotics for a couple of days when they are less than 6 months old and visibly ill. I've never seen a cow older than 6 months sick and when they are little they stay with their mother or at least get real cows milk. Why? because mother's milk works a lot better than drugs to keep the young calf healthy. Drugs are expensive, I wouldn't think farmers would want the expensive of pumping animals with drugs, so is this really true that it's done or is it just vegan hype? Or is it just done on a few farms and that is where they are siting the drug use? Don't site ethic reasons to be vegan, give me examples of actual farms that practice drug use that could harm us.
Again I want to know actual farms that use hormones and drugs and what they are. Or if you are a farmer that does, explain the benifits of doing so.
Answer: It is not just vegan hype. I am not vegan and I stay away from meat/dairy sources that are not organic. I don't want gentically engineered meat and milk, pumped up with growth hormone drugs (like rbGH and growth factor I) and antibiotics.

Question: Is the meat and milk in Europe like the U.S, loaded with hormones and chemicals? Anyone know of a website I can find about the regulations here in Europe for food and veggies?
yes..eggs and milk are not refrigerated here in Spain as well.
Answer: Much less in Europe. I used to be a herdsman in the UK and we never used hormone injections on our dairy cows.
Fresh pasteurized milk in Spain is refrigerated as it's shelf life would be non existent if it wasn't. UHT milk isn't refrigerated though. That is sealed and has a sell by date. Eggs tend not to be. I shop at Mercadona which is my local supermarket. They refrigerate fresh milk.
Question: Why does grilled meat taste the way it does? It seems that grilled meat all has the same flavor, whether it is cooked over gas or charcoal. For many years I was a devoted charcoal man, until this summer I got a great deal on a gas grill, and the flavor doesn't seem any different to me. What chemical reaction in the meat makes it taste grilled?
I love grilling fish, too.
Answer: When you grill meat it is directly over the flame so it cooks using the actual fire and the smoke a stove on the other hand uses the heat of the flame.
I find that if you experiment with wood chips (i.e. cherry, hickory, oak etc) you get a really nice flavour
Question: What is the Nutrient in Turkey meat that induces sleep? On occasion, I hear reports about how some chemical (nutrient?) in Turkey meat induces sleep.
Which chemical is this?
I'm re-building my TRIVIA-knowlege so I can look like I know something amongst my family of retired Teachers.
Answer: triptophan
Question: For fellow Vegetarians..do you feel extra sensitive to eating anything meat or with processed chemicals ? how you feel if simply trying eating chicken or fish,,,if washed and skinless?
do you feel any different after? like a bit strange, etc? is this due to chemical hormones injected in chicken and fish, or other?
and why one is so much more sensitive after eating vegetarian..is it that you are extra sensitve or is it just such a different feeling to each food with processed chemicals either sprinkled on them or injected into .
how is it for you and is this normal for most who are vegetarians you think?
is meat, by itself making a person "feel" much different after having been a vegetarian for so long?
please explain and describe
Answer: I decided to become a vegetarian a long time ago without
doing research on what foods I needed.
When I tried meat again, it made me sick.
Our digestive tract is not meant to deal with meat the same
as carnivores.
Hence, problems arise. It's not because of sensitivity.
Now, after being vegetarian for many, many years, the thought
of eating meat is out of the question.
Question: Need some recipes for patient who can not have any salt, meat, artificial chemical in her diet.? She has diagnosis of heart disease, kidney and liver problems, artery calcification, osteoporosis, etc.
Answer: May want to go with organic fruits and vegetables. Fruits that are high in potassium. Steam or stir fry vegetables. May try Silken soy milk for the calcium. Use Mrs. Dash seasonings, lemon and lime juice, flavored vinegars. American Heart Association has a low sodium cook book.
