Children't Vitamins
Question: Fullbred boxer won't eat can I give him children's vitamins? My boxer has been in the care of my sister and has lost a tremendous amount of weight however he's eating better now however I was wondering if I could give him children's vitamins?
Answer: I would strongly recommend that he sees a veterinarian for his weight loss issue, he may have something going on that you just don't see. I would not give him any kind of human vitamins they are not safe for a dog. Please see your vet.
Question: Is it OK to overdose on Children's gummy Vitamins? Just asking out of curiosity because they are extremely good for you and I don't think you could.
Answer: my daughter got a hold of her childrens vitamins once, thought they were candy and ate a bunch. i called the poison control hotline. they told me that too many vitamins could be very dangerous. she made me read off how much of each mineral was in a pill and tell about how many pills she ate. thankfully, it was not enough to make her sick, but they said that many kids have been poisoned and died from vitamin overdose. so it's definately not a good idea to snack on these. just get a bag of gummy worms if that's what you like.
Question: 35 year old male taking children's vitamins such as "Flinstone" bad for his health? or Is it still good for his/her health? or doesn't do anything?
Answer: Probably not bad for his health, but probably not helping him either. Children's vitamins are formulated for the weight and dietary needs of children. He is not getting his needs met by taking a children's dosage. He needs to talk to his doctor about what vitamins or supplements he should be taking.
Question: Can adults take Children's vitamins? I have been taking Centrum Kid's Spongebob vitamins, because my siblings don't bother taking them so I brought the bottle to college with me so that I don't have to buy my own. I'm sure that children's vitamins are completely safe, but do they provide enough vitamins for a 5'1" 20 year old female?
Answer: Yes. But you should read the label to see which preservatives are in them. Most supermarket brands are loaded with extra crap, including sugar. The preservatives actually inhibit your body's absorption of the vitamins. Essentially you are just eating candy every day. Your body is getting no benefit. Flintstones are the worst for this. They are so pointless yet everyone talks about how great they are and OBs will even tell pregnant women to take them if they can't keep down prescription vitamins. Why? They do nothing at all. I won't give my own children Flintstones. I mean, I might as well just hand them candy. I'm not as familiar with centrum but I have a feeling they aren't much better. Read the label.
If you get a balanced diet, chances are you don't need the daily vitamin. But if you think you do then one great vitamin is by Nature's Plus. Check out vitaminshoppe.com They have some good quality vitamins. And no, I don't work for them or anything. I'm just a health nut.
Question: Can Flintstone vitamins be a substitute for prenatal vitamins? After over a year of trying to conceive, my husband and I are finally going to have a baby. I'm about 8 weeks along and probably 75% of the time, I'm nauseous. I'm having a really hard time taking my prenatal vitamins. Aren't children's vitamins just as good as prenatal vitamins?
Any advice is more than welcome.
Answer: When my best friend foung out she was pregnant she was worried about taking prenatal vitamins because she has a hard time swallowing pills. She had been taking the One a Day gummie vitamins. So her Dr just told her to take a double dose of any childrens chewable vitamin! I was skeptical at first but double doses contain about the same amounts of vitamins, folic acid, and nutrients as prenatals! I have also heard that you may try taking you prenatals at night to avoid them making you as nauseaus. Congrats and have a happy and healthy pregnancy!

Question: adult taking children's vitamins such as "Flinstone" bad for his/her health? Is it good for his/her health? or doesn't do anything?
Answer: It is fine for adults to take Flinstone vitamins. in fact I took them when I was pregnant because the pre-natals made me sick. On most of their bottles it has dosage for both children and adults. Usually it is one for a child, and 2 for adults.
Question: what are the best kinds of children's vitamins for a 2 yr old? i want to start giving my son a children's vitamin. he eats pretty good, but is still not fond of veggies at all. he will drink juices, but he really won't eat a lot of fruits either. i'm afraid he is not getting near as much of the vitamins and minerals as he needs to be getting. so i have decided that maybe a childrens vitamin would probably help him. the only thing is that i have been reading this What to Expect the Toddler Years book, and it says to make sure when choosing a vitamin that your not choosing one that goes over the 100% RDA.. so i just wanted to know which ones are better for his age. the ones that go over that are for children ages 4 and up.. anyone have any info on this for me? thanks.
he is a milk monster. he would drink milk all day long if i would let him, but the doctor told me not to let him have as much. and, like i said he also drinks plenty of juice, so he gets a lot of vitamin c.. he eats lots of chicken and hamburger, lots of bread and grains, pasta's,the only thing he really lacks is the veggies and other fruits besides juices..as a matter of fact the only veggie he will eat without me tricking him is potatoes.
Answer: I bought the gummy vitamins for our daughter (who just turned 2), but they are a little "chewier" than regular gummy bears, and she won't eat them. So, I switched to the liquid poly-vi-sol vitamins, and slip them into her drink. She doesn't seem to notice when I put them in juice, and if I put them in milk, I also put strawberry flavoring in the milk to cover up the vitamin taste. We've been using them for about 2 weeks now, and so far so good!
They also make a "My First Flintstone" vitamin - just like the regular Flintstone vitamins, only made for younger children!
Question: would it be haram to take vitamins that contain gelatin? I had called the company of the vitamins and they told me the vitamins are a combination of beef and pork. I have a hard time swallowing other vitamins so my doctor has recommended me a chew able children's vitamin and i really need to take the vitamins for the pregnancy so since I can't take the others would it be ok to take these?
Answer: If it contains pork then you can't take them. Just eat the foods that are rich in the vitamins you need, and to get the most out of them eat them raw, or steamed but not boiled because that kills a lot of the nutrients.
Question: Taking childrens vitamins in pregnancy? I have been violently sick with my prenatal i honestly don't feel the benefit of them since soon as i take them i throw up. It was brought to my attention that other pregnant women with this problem have instead taken children's vitamins in pregnancy... has anybody else had to do this?
Answer: There are prenatal pills available that are specifically formulated for those with severe morning sickness. My sister in law ended up taking those because it was the only way she could keep her pills down. There are also adult-dose gummy-bear type vitamins that may be easier for you to tolerate. Children's vitamins will not have enough iron and folic acid in them for your increased pregnancy needs. Many children's-formula vitamins do not even contain iron.
Question: Does It Matter Which Vitamins I Take? I'm in my late 40's. I'm trying to save money, so I have started taking my older children's vitamins. They are called "Teen Source". Is there any reason I shouldn't take these vitamins?
Answer: No. However if you are eating a heathy balanced diet containing fruit and vegeatables, you should not need additional vitamins at all. That will save you money.
Also you must remenber that additional vitamins do NOT provide fibre in your diet. This is important and is where fruit and vegetables score over vitamin supplements.
Question: How can I eat vitamins? They make me so nauseaus and dizzy I don't know whether to faint or puke. Even if I eat food with them, and even if I bite them in half.
Is there a trick for a person with a sensitivity to take a vitamin? Or is there anything wrong with an adult taking a double dose of a children's vitamin?
Answer: I think children's are probably fine if they don't bother your stomach. Have you tried different brands? I've found that some make me sick and some don't at all. The only other trick I know is take them on a full stomach. If I take one on an empty stomach first thing in the morning, it's a lot more likely to make me sick. Also, I think it's the B vitamins that do it, so maybe if you find one with a lower B complex it will help.
Question: Question for pregnant women who took Flintstones vitamins? I took prenatal vitamins in my first trimester and discovered that they were making my nausea worse. I tried two different kinds of pills, I even tried taking half now half later and I made sure I ate before hand, NOTHING WORKED. I switched to Flintstones vitamins instead and I was finally able to start eating and functioning again.
I am now 15 weeks pregnant and starting to feel back to normal again, so I tried to take my normal prenatal vitamins again and sure enough I was sick ALL DAY. There must be something in the prenatal vitamins that don't agree with me.
My question is... Should I be taking TWO Flintstones vitamins a day? I don't want to hear that Flintstones vitamins don't have all that you need... blah, blah, blah. I've checked and compared the labels and ALL of the vitamins are the same darn thing, but the dosage is different. For those of you who took children's vitamins, how many did you take?
Answer: I take the Sour Gummies Flintstone Vitamins, and my dosage is two per day. I'm unsure of the chewable vitamins, but I'm fairly certain that the recommended dosage is two for that as well.
I did exactly the same recently--and the prenatal vitamins *still* make me ill! So not only am I able to function without vomiting every ten minutes, I get a nice "candy" treat once per day.
Congratulations and good luck!
Question: Gummy Vitamins with Fluoride? My baby is 12 months old and is getting her 3rd and 4th teeth. She is breastfed but sometimes gets cow's milk. Her doctor wrote her a prescription for fluoride, but I know she hates the taste of it (we tried it before). The doctor said that she doesn't know if the gummy vitamins have fluoride then to just give her those, otherwise get the prescription filled.
Does anyone know if there are any children's vitamins out there, preferably gummy ones, that have fluoride? Thanks!
Answer: What about children toothpaste? A small amount. You can do a small amount of it on a soft bristled tooth brush. Twice a day, it will taste like toothpaste and contains flouride.
Question: It's 2010, has anyone invented a children's vitamin that isn't repugnant? And don't say Flintstones, they hate Flintstones.
Answer: My kids really like the gummy ones. So do I (yes, they actually taste good!)
I buy the giant bottle at Sam's.
ETA: The Sam's ones are nice and soft, like gummy bears. I bought the Centrum gummies once, and they were kind of hard, more like Swedish fish. The kids didn't care for them.
Question: children's Vitamin D question? We are trying to protect against the h1n1 virus and other seasonal flues so we did some research and found out that Vitamin D is good for you. We dont get much sun where we live and my daughter doesn't drink enough milk to get the vitamins from it so I was wondering if it would be safe to give her both her daily multi-vitamin and an extra childrens vitamin d supplement?
No rude comments please!
Answer: Research is showing that up to 70% of Canadians are deficient in Vitamin D. Levels are particularly low in Alberta, for some reason... we get lots of sunlight year round, but I suppose we don't spend enough time out in it. Or that we're too covered up when we do, since it's really only warm enough to go tromping about in shorts a few months of the year.
Anyway - 20 minutes of face and hand exposure is NOT sufficient to generate optimal levels of D3. (20 minutes of full torso exposure with no sun screen would do it... and it doesnt have to be 20 continuous minutes. You could get 5 minutes here and there, to prevent sunburning.)
Complete cloud cover reduces UV energy by 50%; shade (including that produced by severe pollution) reduces it by 60%. UVB radiation ***does not penetrate glass*** so exposure to sunshine indoors through a window does not produce vitamin D. Sunscreens with SPF of 8 or more appear to block vitamin D-producing UV rays.
The more we learn about vit D, the more we understanding that the current RDIs (400IU/day for adults and children over 4) are FAR below optimal levels.
Food sources are limited - fatty fishes like salmon, hallibut, mackerel and sardines are the most plentiful. Eggs are pretty good. And mushrooms are a good source of D2.
So how much should you supplement? Generally, adults should dose at 1000IU/day and children (over 4) at 400IU/day. Make sure you get cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3.)
And be sure that you talk with your doc about it! Vit D can be toxic on overdose... so you should be monitored (levels and/or liver enzymes checked periodically.)
