Question: What is the best Vitamin Combination for a 19 year-old healthy male? Which brand is the best? How much of each Vitamin should it contain?
Answer: Perfect Food by Garden of Life.
Question: Can I use a combination of Vitamin E and Mederma for scars? . I've just found out that a close friend cut herself last night. I've heard both Mederma and Vitamin E work well.
Is it possible to use a combination of the two to get the full effect?
And also is Vitamin E an ingested tablet that people open and rub it on themselves?
Where does cocoa butter fit into all of this?
Answer: You can use either or both, I'm not sure whether a combination will increase the healing though... I have used both Vitamin E (yes, you can open the tablet and rub it on the cut) and Mederma, but haven't found them too effective.
I prefer and recommend Bio Oil. The stuff is AMAZING and works waaaay better than Vitamin E. I've used it on a couple scars and they healed EXTREMELY fast. (Even open wounds - I've used it on a really bad hand burn and it healed in 1 week!). It works much faster than Vitamin E or coca butter or Mederma.
Question: Can a normal adult take daily dose of Vitamin B (combination of B1+B6+B12) without prescription with no risk? I would like to know from the doctors community that if a normal adult (say a woman of over 40 yrs of age) can take a daily dose of vitamin B (a combination of B1, B6, B12 )without the prescription from the doctor. Is there any risk involved in indulging in such an act like any side effects on the body or the vital organs? What good can a combination of vitamin Bs does to ones body if taken regularly?
Answer: the B family of vitamins do us a real service, B6 is a powerful anti-oxidant, B12 helps our metabolic rate and increases our energy, and B1 aids in digestion. If she asked her doctor about it, he could give her some good ideas which doseages would be best for her.
Personally, I take 200mg of B6, and 500mg of B12. Oh, be sure that she is not trying to take B12 in pill form, stomach acids pretty much destroy B12, it needs to be taken in sublingual form (melt in your mouth) so it is absorbed directly into the blood stream thru the oral mucosa. Otherwise, you just waste money.

Question: Why is the combination of a multi-vitamin and fish oil making my mom vomit? I've started making her take both once a day but she's pukes a day later.
Is it the one a day women's multi-vitamin or fish oil?
I don't think it's the fish oil because she does eat fish.
What do you think?
oh btw, I take the same thing but I feel just fine!
Answer: Does she take antacid?
Is she on any medicines?
Some things you take can't be combined with mineral supplements like iron. It actually causes a chemical reaction in the stomach that always ends in vomiting.
Read the label of any other intakes and see if there's a relationship.
Fish oil is usually a straight capsule of oil.
If I leave em in my mouth too long the taste makes me gag but I've never thrown up from taking it with a multivitamin.
Maybe it's an overdose effect, if she eats a lot of fish, and the multi probably has fish oil in it.
Maybe split them up, take one in the morning, take the other at night.

Question: Is it ok to take this combination of vitamins and herbs? OK,
in the morning, I take a Noni pill, just that because your supposed to take it on an empty stomach. About 30 minutes later, I eat and then take a:
50 mg 5 HTP, 300 mg ST. Johns Wort, 500 mg Passion Flower, a multi vitamin, and two 1605 mg valerian root.
Than at night I take another 50 mg 5 HTP, St. Johns, Valerian, Passion Flower and about 800 mcg of melatonin to get a better sleeping pattern.
I take all this to slow down my central nervous system and just started taking them two days ago. Is that safe since they are all herbs and vitamins?
Thanks for taking the time to read this and provide your honest opinion.
I take them for anxiety by the way.
Have any of these helped you in any experinece?
Answer: The noni and the multivitamin should be ok.
Why, however, are you taking all of the others together like that? They are all used for similar problems, so they shouldn't and don't need to be used together. If it starts to work, how will you know what exactly is working? It's best to start small and find out what works for you and what doesn't so you won't be wasting your money on excess items that you don't need. I would start by trying one of the products and adjust the amount if it's not working right away to see if it helps or not. If that doesn't work then move on to the others one by one.
Personally I would go with the 5HTP first, it works pretty well for me. I am currently taking 50mg twice a day for a facial nerve problem. Depending on your multivitamin you may also want to add an extra calcium/magnesium/vit d as those minerals can help relaxing as well (just make sure the calcium is calcium citrate and total vit d intake doesn't go over 600-800 IU a day, unless you know your vit d is really low).
Also, try to eat a balanced diet including lots of vegetables and fruits.
Just because items are vitamins and herbs does not mean they are good for you in any amount you choose. Vitamins, minerals and herbs really don't get the respect they deserve. They are very powerful and are very important to our bodies and can actually have side effects. You can overdose. Of course typically an overdose wouldn't usually be as bad or irreversable as a pharmaceutical overdose but still, before taking anything you should research the item to make sure that is what you want and to see what the recommended dose is. Moderation is the key, just because something is good for you doesn't mean a million of that something is better.
Best of luck!
Question: Please help me with the right vitamin combination!!?
I have to take a lot of vitamins and medication - and some like iron and calcium need to be taken a couple of hours apart. However I have so many to take that I dont have enough time in the day to space out all my meds and vitamins. Please help me !!
Here is a list of what I take daily
Levothyrox
Birth Control (Lutenyl)
Anti-Depressant (Citalopram)
Antihistamine (Promethazine)
Chelated Iron
Calcium 500mg
Vit C 500mg
MultiVitamin
Q10
Omega 3-6-9
Physillium Husk
Could anyone please help me group them so that I can take some together? Thanks so much!!
Answer: If you're taking that many drugs, I would personally suggest first talking to a pharmacist to see if it's safe to take all those supplements and drugs together.
Assuming they are safe to take together, you would want to be careful about taking Iron if the multi has Iron in it, too. You could take all the rest of those supplements together, but the Calcium, Vitamin C, and Psyllium Husks should be taken separately.
Your body can't absorb more than 600 mg of Calcium at any given point in time, so you'll want to have a few hours between the Calcium doses (including the dose in the multi). Vitamin C is best taken throughout the day and the multi should already have Vitamin C in it, too, so it would be best to take that later in the day with the separate Calcium. The Psyllium Husks are a good fiber source, and fiber may push nutrients out of your system before they are fully utilized (not completely likely, but it's better to err on the side of caution). All the rest of them are perfectly safe to take together.
In any case, I wish you good luck!
Question: What combination of vitamins and minerals can I take instead of anti depressants ? I have a reasonable knowledge of both pharmaceutical drugs and herbal/nutrient alternatives. I am taking SJW, 5HTP and B6. I also take Lofepramine (a tricyclic prescription drug) sometimes to help me sleep. I'd rather just take natural supplements.
Answer: Mmm you seem to be doing pretty well. Without an in depth knowledge I wouldn't suggest much.
The 5 -htp should help sleep.
Sainsburys do an evervescent vitamin called 'revive', strong in C, Bs zinc and magnesium. Tesco do a similar for only £1.29 for 20.
A good book is Optimum Nutrition for the Mind by Patrick Holford, I got it from the library. He explains how a lot of anti depressants are covering up poor nutrition. He also does The New Optimum Nutrition Bible. These explain a lot of the science behind, and have chapters on depression etc..
Also regular exercise, 20 minute walk once a day will help.
Good luck, you are not alone.
Question: What is the best combination of vitamins? What vitamins should I take and how much if you want an overall good health? Pay attention to skin health.
Can you help me please?
Answer: The best vitamins are found in whole foods.
For optimal health, I advocate a low carb way of eating. As long as you have <9grams carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control & shouldn't gain weight, no matter the calories, because insulin (the ONLY fat storage hormone) isn't activated.
I personally believe in using fat as fuel instead of carbohydrates. Fat is totally benign in the absence of insulin. There aren't enough calories in vegetables & fruits to fuel the body, if you get enough calories from carbs to fuel the body, then you maintain an almost constant high insulin level with roller coaster blood glucose levels. I recommend fats from butter, coconut, olives, nuts, fish & meats, chia seeds & flax seeds.
When you restrict higher carb, lower nutrition foods, it becomes much easier to greatly increase vegetables in your diet. Change your mindset just adapt it to low carb -
replace bread with lettuce
replace pasta with cabbage
replace rice with cauliflower
replace potatoes with brocolli
High carb levels trigger insulin which unbalance other hormones, promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger. Controlling insulin levels will balance out other hormones and allow sex hormones (testosterone in men) & human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so lean muscle will be gained even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase muscle mass with high HGH levels.
Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) trigger insulin which can store the calories eaten into fat. The more protein the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.
Highly nutritious foods you should consider: sprouts, spirulina, paprika, turnip greens, mustard greens, kale, garlic, brewers yeast, raw almonds, ground flax seeds & chia seeds.
Paprika - 1 Tablespoon = 20 cal = 71% DV Vit.A - 8% DV Vit.C - 10% DV Vit.E - 14% DV Vit.B6 - 9% DV Iron & others way too many to list.
Brewer's Yeast Powder - Two tblspns. provide a whole lot of nutrition! 158% RDA Chromium - 90% Selenium - 88% B2 - 80% B1 - 50% Copper - 50% Niacin - 40% B6 & others way too many to list. It tastes peanutty to me. I have been adding it to sesame butter, a lil raw honey, coconut cream & coconut oil, powdered whey and tastes like peanut butter to me!
Chia seeds sound so expensive but 1# will make 10# food - Amazon.com has couple lbs. for $16 shipped to you. I buy in bulk (24#) from getchia.com for $5.83# with free shipping.
Chia seeds - 3.5 oz is nearly 500 calories, half calories from fat (high in Omega3 fatty acids) 38g fiber 151%DV & 16grams of COMPLETE protein for 6grams carbs & 63% DV Calcium - 95% Phosphorus - 23% Zinc - 9% Copper - 108% Manganese.
Faux tapioca - 2 cups of water, 5 scoops of low carb whey protein powder, stir together & add cup of chia seeds, after they have started to absorb the water, add in 2 cans of coconut milk & sweetener if you like and mix it all in. Can be eaten after an hour but will be better tomorrow. Cream a pkg. of cream cheese into a can of pumpkin and add to the faux tapioca for an even more nutritious pumpkin pie pudding.
Ground flax seed (2-4 Tbsp) 1/4 cup water, sweetener, cinnamon & mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min. to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle & nuke 2 minutes. Suggested for daily fiber needs.
I have been making a "porridge" every day lately as suggested by Dr.Mercola. A low carb whey powder & water, I add ground flax seeds, chia seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, coconut milk, tahini (ground sesame seeds) & raw egg. All seeds & nuts are raw & soaked to germinate them.
Flax seed - 3.5oz - 534 cal - 65% calories from fat (high in Omega3 fatty acids) for 2gram carb - 27g fiber 109%DV - 26% DV Calcium - 64% Phosphorus - 29% Zinc - 61% Copper - 124% Manganese - 36% Selenium - 98% Magnesium - 32% Iron - 110% Thiamin - 9% B2 Riboflavin - 15% B3 Niacin - 24% Vit.B6 - 22% Folate - 10% Vit.B5.- 39% Potassium
Raw nuts are living and full of the energy of life and should be capable of building a tree. Roasted nuts are dead & they may still provide some nutrients, but none can compare to the nutrients and enzymes from a live food.
Unfortunately, raw does not necessarily mean living.
For example - Commercially sold almonds are now required to be pasteurized turning a live food into a dead one. You can not sprout an almond that has been irradiated. I buy my almonds direct from growers off ebay. I get 20# for less than $3# including shipping.
April 6, 2007 - Small-scale farmers, retailers, and consumers are outraged over a new federal regulation that will require all almonds grown in California to be sterilized with various “pasteurization” techniques. The rule, which the USDA quietly developed in response to outbreaks of Salmonella in 2001 and 2004, traced to raw almonds, mandates that all almonds undergo a sterilization process that inc
