Question: Why is crime rate low in some countries and high in others? Crime rate is especially low in some muslim countries. Muslims believe God watches people at all times and will ask about their actions and faiths. Does this belief have anything to do with the low crime rate in Muslim Countries? While researching I saw that there were excessively high crime rates in Western Nations, like the United States and Britain. Will increased spirituality help lower crime in those nations?
Answer: Chopping your hands off for shoplifting does tend to have a slight infuence on the crime rate!
Question: How do I check out the crime rate in prospective apartment complex? I am relocating for school this summer. It's my first time living outside of my hometown, which is way smaller than the college town I am moving to. Is it feasible or even legal to contact the police department and ask them about the crime rate of a particular apartment complex or neighborhood?
I doubt that the apartment office would volunteer this info. I'd like to do some checking before I make the move.
Thanks!
Answer: Check w/ the local police department. They probably have crime maps available for public consumption.
Good question & good luck.
Question: Why has the crime rate risen so significantly during the Bush years? After dropping very substantially during the Clinton administration, the crime rate has again begun to rise dramatically. Is it because Bush trashed Clinton's Crime Bill, which proved so effective in reducing crime?
Hey Chocolah: yes, look at your stats. Don't you see the upward trend that started about 4 years ago, as Bush trashed the programs put in place in the '90's?
Answer: Most of the money that was earmarked for crime prevention was taken for the war and for ( it makes me sick to even say this) homeland security.Homeland security has wasted more money since it's creation, than any other bureaucracy in our nations history, except maybe the military. Rather than prevention, police forces have to resort to violence to keep the peace because they don't have the manpower. It's a shame what's happened in this country.
Question: What is the rate of crime in Europe in comparison to the USA? Some a$$hole keeps telling me how absolutely perfect Europe is in comparison to the US because our crime rate is so much worse. I don't buy it.
Answer: It depends on which country you go to. Places like Norway, Sweden, Switzerland etc have a tiny fraction of the USA's crime rate and are extremely safe. Places like Britain, Ireland, France etc have very high crime rates, though again not as bad as the USA overall. The USA however, has massively hgiher levels of violent crime. I would say Britain is the most crime-ridden country in Europe, yet there are only around 60-70 gun murders as years, and around 250 stabbing deaths. Compare that to the USA, with an average of 12000 gun deaths per year, and 17000 stabbing deaths.
I know that most Americans regard Cuba as some backwards banana republic, but having travelled around most of Europe & the USA, Cuba is a LOT safer than both of them

Question: What is the crime rate in Vancouver, Canada, also population breakdown? I live in a crime-ridden Southern US city, murders everyday. Just got back frm Vancouver and was amazed by lack of crime, friendliness, (perceived) safety. Wondering what the crime rate is in Vancouver, also does anyone know the cultural makeup figures. My city is 60% urban black and unfortunately that seems to increase crime a lot.
Any info? LOVED Vancouver. The American South has many problems. Thanks!
Answer: As of 2005, Vancouver had the fourth highest crime rate among Canada's 27 census metropolitan areas.
However, as with other Canadian cities, the over-all crime rate has been falling "dramatically."
Vancouver's property crime rate is particularly high, ranking among the highest for major North American cities. But even property crime dropped 10.5% between 2004 and 2005, according the Vancouver Police.
Metro Vancouver has the highest rate of gun-related violent crime of any major metropolitan region in Canada, according to a new Statistics Canada study. There were 45.3 violent offences involving guns for every 100,000 people in Metro Vancouver, slightly higher than Toronto at 40.4 but far above the national average of 27.5, says the report, which is based on police-reported data from 2006.
Question: How is the crime rate, cost of living, and educational standards in Orlando Fl and surrounding areas? I'm considering moving to the Orlando area to work at the complex that has the Cirque du Soliel show LaNouba. I was hoping to get an inside non bias opinion of the crime rate, school quality, cost of living, traveling to that ares from where ever I choose to live. Any help or suggestions would be of great value to me.
Thanks
Answer: Having lived in Orlando and surrounding communities since 1972, I have to tell you that Orlando proper is on the list of the top five for crime, of various types. That doesn't mean that bands of criminals roam the streets, but the tourist industry and nature of the state, usually also enhances the element of crime. Certainly there are neighborhoods, many high density living situations surrounding the major attractions, and not everyone in Orange or Osceola county fears for their lives of property.
Cost of living, here and anywhere is relative to income levels as well as industry/commerce, and in comparison, is lower than many major HUBS in the US, but some cost factors are lower as well. HOUSING not strictly being one of them. As with any other City area, Income is also extremely varied, from poverty to high levels of wealth. I suspect you'll find that Middle income might be the case, but again, relative to your needs, will help in your decision.
Schools are also a selective process, and dependant on a specific area you live in, for being assigned a district. There are private schools, Religious based schools, many use, as they at least get a sense of improved security or familial situations. That doesn't say that an inner city, urban school should necessarily get low marks for it's faculty or student body, but doing your research will be beneficial. Without question there are Hundreds of schools at all levels, in and around O town.
Travel to and from the attractions will likely take place on Interstate 4, a heavily traveled highway, seeming to always be under construction, but it runs from Daytona beach, south west to Tampa as a main artery. In the Orlando area there are no less than a half dozen beltways/toll, that were originally thought to relieve traffic flows, most especially on regular county roads, and they are heavily traveled as well, but do connect with many outlying communities, as well as the interstae, the trunpike, the attractions, the airport.

Question: Who has highest crime rate New York or Los Angeles? I have been in Manhattan by foot. Nobody bothered me and I didn't run into any scary situations. I was planning a trip to Los Angeles, I got a tour book and Los Angeles seems frightening. I know people from the east coast who have live in California and say that Los Angeles is nothing compared to New York. Which place has the highest crime rate?
Answer: The murder rate in LA (12.6) is about double that of NYC (6.6)
When you look at the crime chart, you should realize the population of NYC is about double that of LA.
Question: How is the crime rate in Virginia? I would like to know how high the crime rates are there and which city has the highest. I am looking for cities with VERY high crime rate since my Mom works for the CSI and needs a good city to be able to work in. (I am wanting to move there, but need to convince her)
So, how high are the crime rates? (Low - Moderate - High - Very high) Which city has the most crime?
Answer: Virginia is really, really big. Overall it's not a high-crime state as a lot of Virginia is rural but if you're looking for somewhere with a stable crime scene going on, try the DC suburbs: Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church, Fairfax city and county (which, by the way, has the highest population of MS-13 members in the country), and Manassas. Further south, Richmond will be your next big crime area. Not that any of these are particularly "bad" areas; just with the higher population, the higher the crime, and these are some of the most densely populated areas in Virginia.
Or consider a job with the Virginia State Police!
Question: What are the pollutants that can effect crime rate? Studies show that lead in air has effects on human biology/behavior thus sometimes also leading to an increase in crime rate. So far so good. But it is lead the only pollutant that has influences on the crime rate?
Answer: Actually, it's liberalism. Liberalism has the biggest effect on the crime rate, and can be proven. If you look at cities who elect democrats, or where liberal democrats have the majority, the crime rate is the highest.
Question: How bad is the Crime rate in Los Angeles, Compared to Miami? I live in Miami,FL and I am considering moving over there. Can anyone tell me how bad the crime rate is, compared to Miami?
Answer: The 5% of LA that is bad skews the numbers badly, the rest is overall safer than Miami. Specially Orange County outside of Santa Ana.
