Cytomel
Question: Has anyone experienced weight loss using cytomel for a low thyroid? I have heard that using cytomel will create a huge weight loss. Is this true?
Answer: Weight loss from thyroid meds will only occur if you also watch what you eat and exercise. Desiccated thyroid like Armour is an even better treatment than Cytomel alone.
But do know that if you aren't hypo, the worst thing you can do to lose weight is get on a thyroid med.
Question: How many Cytomel (T3) pills am I supposed to take? I've bought Cytomel pills in order to lean down fast for a weight class in Jiu-jitsu tournament. But when I got it, it didn't have any instructions or anything just pills in a sealed locked bag. Does anybody have an idea of many I should take
Answer: IMPORTANT WARNING:
Thyroid hormone should not be used to treat obesity in patients with normal thyroid function. Liothyronine is ineffective for weight reduction in normal thyroid patients and may cause serious or life-threatening toxicity, especially when taken with amphetamines. Talk to your doctor about the potential risks associated with this medication.
Liothyronine, a thyroid hormone, is used to treat hypothyroidism, a condition where the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. Without this hormone, the body cannot function properly, resulting in poor growth, slow speech, lack of energy, weight gain, hair loss, dry thick skin, and increased sensitivity to cold. When taken correctly, liothyronine reverses these symptoms. Liothyronine is also used to treat goiter (enlarged thyroid gland) and to test for hyperthyroidism (a condition where the thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone).
Liothyronine comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It usually is taken as a single dose before breakfast every day. To control the symptoms of hypothyroidism you probably will need to take this medicine for the rest of your life. It may take about 2 weeks before you notice any change in your symptoms. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take liothyronine exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
Continue to take liothyronine even if you feel well. Do not stop taking liothyronine without talking to your doctor.
Question: Can Synthroid and Cytomel be taken at the same time because they are both thyroid medications? The directions say to take synthroid on an empty stomach and wait an hour before taking any other medication.
Answer: You can take both in the morning. Synthroid is T4 long-lasting, slowly released thyroid hormone and Cytomel is T3 short-lived, fast acting thyroid hormone. There should not be any problem, just wait 1 hour to eat. Usually, a lot of other meds can be taken with Synthroid, but iron, calcium, soy, fiber, should be taken 4 hours later.
Question: What are side efffects and results of T3/Cytomel for hypothyroid? I am 16 and yesterday my doctor prescribed me T3 because my thyroid is very underactive. I am wondering if there are any side effects from the drug when you first start taking it. How soon will I see a difference in my energy level and overall sense of well being? Also, in the past year i have gone from 115 to 135 pounds because of my thyroid and I was wondering how fast will I lose weight and how much?
Answer: That's unusual to be given T3 instead of T4 or T4/T3. I only know of a few people on straight T3. It should gve you more energy. If you feel the energy is going away mid-afternoon, perhaps splitting your dose into a morning dose and an afternoon dose may help. With Cytomel, you should see slight improvements in just days because T3 is the active hormone.
About weight, you won't lose by the medication alone, but you should have an easier time losing with diet and or exercise.
Question: Did Cytomel cause my thyroid gland to swell up? I have been on Cytomel for about 2 months. Around 2 weeks ago, I thought my double-chin looked a little more doubled. Then 3 days ago, I really noticed my thyroid gland is swollen up!
The soonest appointment I could get with my Endo is in about 3 weeks.
Could the Cytomel have caused this? Is this something I need to be seen for right away?
Answer: If dose is too small on RARE occasions it can happen.
Question: How do you take the time-released cytomel (Wilson Syndrome) medicine? There are several pills, but not sure how to start.
Answer: The dosage of thyroid hormones is determined by the indication and must in every case be individualized according to patient response and laboratory findings.
Cytomel (liothyronine sodium) Tablets are intended for oral administration once-a-day dosage is recommended. Although liothyronine sodium has a rapid cutoff, its metabolic effects persist for a few days following discontinuance.
Ask your Doctor maybe?
Question: who can help me purchase the drug cytomel for my son? I need a prescription assistance program that will help me purchase my son's drug cytomel.
Answer: Your best shot is to contact the pharmacy company distributing it to see if they have any programs to assist in the purchase. Often, they have a few.
This must all be followed with a doctors perscription, of course.
Question: Does taking cytomel help to lose weight? Please give me any info you have on this drug. I have read the websites, but they are all confusing. Thanks.

Question: Anyone been on cytomel for Hypothyroid for a length of time and then later added synthroid to it also? If so how has it helped or not helped your symptoms.
Answer: I was on the opposite. Levoxyl (T4) first, then added Cytomel. On T4 alone, I had no relief from Symptoms. With the added Cytomel, I had about 75% relief. Now on Armour, I have about 95% relief. It's the T3 that seemed to have helped
Question: How effective is T3/T4: Cytomel / Cytomix in the following doses ? T3 60mcg + T4 20mcg per tablet
Does it work as a weight loss pill, it's speeds up the thyroid / metabolism.
Answer: if you don't have hypothyroidism then don't take thyroid medication it will make you ill. you could get a heart arrhythmia and die. if you want to lose weight then go and see a doctor or a dietician about weight loss.
Question: How long does it take for T3 Tertroxin (Cytomel) to work? Hi
I have a slightly under active thyroid (hypo) and l have started to take the above medication today. One of my biggest hypo problems is the freezing feet and hands, especially in the winter and weight that will not shift although l'm been going to the gym for months and monitor my food intake. How long will it take for the med to kick in? I'm on 20mcg and will go up to 80-100 over next few weeks. The only side effect so far is feeling hot but that could be as i've been house cleaning all day so other from that l'm fine. Anyone on this med who can advise on average how long it will take to drop the pounds, warm the feet 'n' hands and generally stop feeling hungover and knackered all the time (btw, l don't drink !) . Thanks so much, l hope this is the pill to stop my symptoms !.
Answer: Hi,
I have the same problem as u, and I have been on Tertroxin for about a year, and still I don`t feel any better, still battling with my weight, and I am so irritated with it, last week I went for another blood check, and now they tell me I need to go on another type of medication................ so if u have any suggestions, please share!!!!
Question: Please tell me what you know or have experienced using CYTOMEL. Was it timereleased? What did you take it for?
Thanks nicepuddin! I have been taking d3 for a deficiency glad to know it will help. I have been hypo for 16 years and have ot been adequately treated.
Anyone experience t4 resistance as neck pain?
Answer: Cytomel is for people who have hypothyroidism. It is hard to get in the UK as it is considered more dangerous and no more effective than thyroxine by the majority of our doctors.
If you have hypothyroidism may I suggest you ask for your vitamin D level to be checked. I was treated for hypothyroidism, but then I was found vitamin D deficient; since taking a vitamin D3 supplement my thyroid function has much improved.
Question: Has anyone ever used Clenbuterol or Cytomel T3? I'm a 24 yr. old male baseball player trying to get cut up quick and I've heard a lot of good things about Clenbuterol and Cytomel T3, especially when you stack them. Question: I accidentally overdosed on clenbuterol and cytomel yesterday. i still feel the gittery feeling? i still feel the heartburn and gitterness. how long does this last?
Answer: The rest of your life
Question: Has anyone used time released cytomel? Interested in affects on fibromyalgia/thyroid. Please share experience? I have chronic pain and believe a t4 resistance is at the root of it. My doc just agreed to put me on time released cytomel if we find a compounding pharmacist who can do it. Please share anything that could be useful for me to know. BIG Thanks!
Answer: it will have NO EFFECT on real fms.
real fms is not a thyroid issue,it is a neuro issue.
if it resolves your condition, you do not have fms
thyroid issues are often misdiagnosed as fms.
fms is NOT a general label for pain such as pain from thyroid issues
be aware that there are many problems with thyroid meds not working right...
the only one that has a good track record is SYNTHROID
Question: Is anyone taking cytomel for hypothyroid and if so how is it working?
Answer: I just started Cytomel four weeks ago after my thyroid was removed.
The first few days were a little "off." Cytomel takes a few hours to be fully absorbed. I would get a little boost as it was absorbing. Sometimes I got jittery for a half hour or so. Othertimes I would get "clippy" or "chirpy" in my speech - I can't think of how to describe it. Kind of like a nervous little bird.
After about four days, I hardly noticed any ups and downs, and have been pretty steady, at one energy level, most of the day. The doctor explained that it is normal to have more symptoms when you first start.
I was still lower energy than I used to be, had a blood test done, and confirmed I just needed to increase my dosage.
I started at 25 mcg, now taking 50 mcg. I am150 lb, completely hypothyroid.
It seems to help if you take it the same time each day, preferably morning. Also, some foods inhibit the absorption or bind with it. Don't eat right after. Don't consume anything high in calcium or fibre for at least an hour. It may reduce the effectiveness.
Overall, it is working alright for me. Other people describe severe symptoms - hyper or hypo. It is a harder drug to manage than Synthroid, so just be aware of any symptoms and make sure your levels are monitored until they get the dosage right.
In my case, this is a temporary drug, while I wait for further cancer treatment and then switch to Synthroid. I don't believe it is recommended for long-term use in place of Synthroid, but have heard of people using them together successfully.
