Daily Intake Vitamin
Question: What should my daily intake of Vitamin IU be? I am 22, female, and weigh about 110. For example, vitamin D of 1000 IU says to take it three times a day. Isn't one daily enough? Same goes for other vitamin supplements. Three of each vitamin a day seems a bit overkill, then why does the bottle say it?
thanks.
Answer: As long as you are over the age of 12, then you must follow the directions thoroughly, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. However, if you are taking more than one vitamin, you should read the labels, for you need to make sure that two or more of the supplements you are ingesting do not contain the same vitamins. It is very possible to overdose, or get too much of a vitamin, such as A, C, or D. See what I mean? It is best to find a multivitamin that suites you, this way you will get just what you need, and no more. Hope this has helped. God bless. Alias.
Question: Is flaxseed oil really beneficial to add to my daily vitamin intake? I've heard taking flaxseed oil is really good for not only your skin and hair, but is also good for your overall health. Has anyone heard of this or have taken flaxseed oil and have seen the improvements?
Answer: It is the omega 3 fatty acids that you need or the defeciency will hurt you. Fish is also a good source but the news says that pollution is worse than ever and so fish is loaded with mercury. See this site for more on omega-3s, flaxseed oil and other sources of it.

Question: What is the proper daily intake of vitamin D for pregnant women? My prenatal vitamins have 400 IU, is that enough? I plan to go over this with my doctor at my appointment next week, but would like to know if anyone knows the recommended amount. Thanks!

Question: I want to find a site where I can enter my age, health status, gender, and daily vitamin intake. Is there one? Ultimatley I would like to know any adverse effects of my regimine.
Answer: Don't know of a web site but can tell you a great book is Prescription for Nutritional Healing, by Phyllis A. Balch. It is a great vitamin, mineral and herbal reference guide all in one and only about $25 at most health food stores (maybe cheaper online.) It is about as big as a phone book so it is packed with info. Don't worry though it is not designed to be read from cover to cover. And it is written in layman's terms so it is easy to understand. It has info you are asking for like drug and other supplement interactions too and much more.
Hope this helps.

Question: How much is too much for a safe daily Vitamin A intake for healthy people?
Answer: I believe 5000 IU is standard RDA, over that is too much.
On vitamin labels it will say how much is in the pill and what percentage RDA (recommended daily allowance) it is. You also have to take into account how much vitamin A you receive from your diet, so that the additon of the vitamin doesn't add up to an overdose.
With vitamin A and D, you do not want to take over the RDA, because these are oil based vitamins and your body will store them and not flush them out as rapidly as water based vitamins (B and C). An overdose can be harmful. There are documented cases of deaths occurring from too much vitamins A and D, such as well meaning parents giving their children too much cod liver oil.
Beta carotene, the source of vitamin A, is a different story. The body will convert beta carotene into vitamin A as it needs it, and is less potentially harmful, from what I understand.
Question: Daily Vitamin A intake? I'm a little confused in understanding the daily intake for Vitamin A. I'm suppose to consume vitamin A daily because my body doesn't produce enough of it. I had gone to my dermatologist and he told me I should consume a lot a vitamin A rich foods and take a daily vitamin A pills. I bought one that's 10,000 IU but when I go online to do research, it states that for my age: *Adequate intake ug/day is 900 and *Upper limit ug/day 3,000. That's the part that confuses me, is 10,000 IU a lot to consume in the day? I've read that to much vitamin A can be harmful and could cause future health problems. Can someone please clear this for me? Tried to do research but it just confused me more.
Answer: Googling around, it looks like your 10,000 IU is a little more than your upper limit 3000 ug. Since it's more than your upper limit, you should consider getting a lower dose pill.
Here's an approximate chart with both IU and ug units.

Question: Are there any negative side effects to a large Vitamin C daily intake? Specifically, orange juice. And I'm asking about long term or otherwise. And not like tooth or enamel related. I'm aware of the dangers from acidic drinks to teeth.
Probably 75% of what I drink everyday is orange juice, so while I'm not worried about getting scurvy anytime soon, I was wondering if there's anything I should be worried about.
Answer: Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin. That means that, if you have too much of it, it is easily excreted (mostly in urine). Thus it is virtually impossible to get a toxic effect from it, and certainly not from food-based sources (i.e. orange juice). The worst you would get is probably some diarrhea, but even that probably wouldn't happen unless you took a bunch of Vit C supplements. Vitamins A, D on the other hand, are fat-soluble, and thus stay in your body and can quite easily cause toxic effects with irresponsible supplement use (but again, not likely just from eating things--most food just doesn't naturally contain that much of the vitamin). Vitamins E, and K are also fat soluble, but not likely to cause toxic effects
Question: Where can I get a prescription for my daily intake of vitamin you?

However, it is much safer to take vitamin A in natural form like butter, egg yolk, liver, kidney, green vegetables and yellow/red fruits and yellow/orange vegetables.
Question: What should our daily intake of vitamins be for our best being ? I like to know how much vitamin per day is best for our body.
Thank you !
Answer: You specific need is set by your rate of consumption. So the factors you need to know are ....
Your body weight
Your fitness level
Your overall health - no infections etc
What activity you will undertake today, and how much vitamins you will use.
So in other words it is guesswork! Whilst there are many averages offered they cannot be on target as they cannot really consider what is going on inside your body.
Question: Does daily intake of vitamin C can really strengthen the body's immune system?
Answer: There's been a lot of controvery over this. Studies claim to show that it has no effect, but Linus Pauling (the only scientist to win TWO Nobel prizes) attests to its effectiveness and I have found that to be true in my own experience.
I am NEVER sick. I used to take 500 mg/day but because I'm a smoker I now take 1000 mg/day. That keeps me healthy. Occasionally I feel a sore throat coming on, and then I take 1000 mg every 2 hours, along with one Echinacea capsule, and one zinc lozenge/day. If I keep this up until bedtime, all symptoms have disappeared by morning.
Because C is water-soluble and thus not stored by the body, it's very difficult to overdose on it. The regimen I just outlined is not an overdose. The worst that can happen is a case of diahhrea, but you'd have to take a lot more than I mentioned for that to happen.
Once you have a cold, Vitamin C cannot cure it, but it can lessen the severity and duration. And BTW, humans and guinea pigs are the only mammals that don't manufacture their own Vitamin C.
