Im having trouble narrowing it down or even finding a good list. I guess i would classify it as the worst by the highest death toll. Sources appreciated
Im looking for like a single event, not a war or famine or anything of that nature.
Answer: That Chernobyl accident might top the list. The 'official' death toll was something like 4000. But other estimates put the subsequent cancer deaths over 15 years at close to 250,000.
I can't think of anything bigger than that.

Question: What is the death toll for Americans soldiers in Iraq? What is the death toll, and the wounded? Please Help, I need extra credit for my History class.
Answer: Go to the source below. It is the link to the DOD web site for news. Click on the link to "OIF/OEF Casualty Update". It will give you the totals for those killed in combat, those who died from non-combat causes, those who were wounded and returned to duty in 72 hours or less and those who were wounded and did not return to duty in 72 hours. The name of the wounded are not released because it would violate a Federal law, the Health Information Privacy Act (HIPA).

Since the beginning of the Intifada to April 9th, 2005:
3,225 Palestinians killed by Israelis (3,135 by military in the territories, 54 by military inside Israel, 34 by settlers in the territories)
950 Israelis killed by Palestinians (431 inside Israel, 218 settlers, 218 soldiers on duty)
Source: B'tselem, BBC [1]
According to the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affair 1058 people were killed by Palestinian violence. The list include Israelis who were killed by Palestinian militants abroad as well as foreigners that were killed by Palestinian militants in Israel and the territories. It does not include Palestinians killed by Palestinian militants.
There you are should keep you happy.now you can get on with making a point for which you have been waiting for and good luck.
Question: If war can reduce death toll, can it be justified? What do you think of that? Sometimes, I think that beginning war or invading other countries is justified, if the war can contribute to the decrease of death toll resulting from dictatorship or severe inability and corruption in leadership of a country. All over the world, many people are dying of hunger and killed by autocrats.
Also, many women are discriminated against in many countries and many kids are exploited of their labor often exposed to lethal damage in the third world.
I think that human rights are more important than a nationality or a sense of belonging to a nation.
What do you think of my opinion? Am I wrong?
Answer: The problem with that is that it would be easier if assassination was legal. You pop the head of that dictator and hope for the best. After popping enough heads somebody in the line of power is going to get the hint. Then instead of killing thousands in a war, their were be dialog.
Now understand this. Your vision of human rights is far different then how other countries view that issue. Human rights are not understood as a right in Arabic countries. And their religion doesn't help either.
These satellite societies have to grow on their own to understand human rights. That is why you don't hear about riots worldwide for human rights. You have to spoon feed them on human rights. So what you see as a wrong wearing glasses from the west, to them its life as usual, nothing wrong.
Look at the situation in Iraq. While the intentions were honorable the results were disastrous. Americans are unappreciated for their efforts. The people of Iraq are several hundred years behind the west. Human rights are not on that list of must haves.
Question: What is the total estimated civilian death toll caused by USA military abroad.? America is a very young country, please could someone tell me the total civilian death toll caused by USA military abroad since america's Independence in 1783. And also the total death toll upon american civilians on home soil by foreign military for the same period.
Even better still would be a graph with time line and death toll.
Thanks
Answer: 1. Get lots of coffee.
2. Look up each war/conflict 1 at a time. You will not find a single source that i have ever seen.
3. Let us know what you find 3 weeks from now if you finish that soon!

Question: What is the annual death toll on plane crashes per year? i need the annual death toll on plane crashes per year, if you know then please answer this question. I have her some where between 2,050-10,429.
Answer: www.plancrashinfo.com
They list all the reported air crashes across the world, of all types of aircraft and fatalities.
Question: What could be the death toll of alternative medicine? While no accurate figures are generally kept, one country's unfortunate public health policy could give us an insight into the level of unnecessary deaths attributable to alternative medicine.
Dr. Manto Tshabalala-Msimang, the former South African health minister whose AIDS denial and insistence in using an alternative 'remedy' to treat patients, while delaying the distribution of retrovirals, is blamed for the unnecessary deaths of over 300,000 people in one country alone.
If your country adopted alternative medicine to treat a major illness or illnesses, what do you think the death toll could be?
Have any other countries adopted any alternative medicines as a public health policy? If not, why not?

Yes Dr Frank, I hadn't thought of that.
dbobo: Please try and reference your claims or I'll assume you invented them.
Truthseeker: No attempt at answering the question. Given your previous email to me:
"From: Truthseeker
Subject: You low-life Facker.
Message: You just crossed the line you motherfuging son of Jackal."
...your spelling seems to be improving.
Dr SK: You'd think ayurveda would be taken up by the whole world if it's so good? Please none of this Big Pharma conspiracy rubbish, that's a cop out.
DrDan: Yep, I kinda do have an issue with unnecessary deaths. I try to stop caring about people I really do, but it just keeps happening!
William T: Good point, "seriously ill people die even after taking drugs", though it'd still be good to put a figure on deaths from alt med due to neglect, adverse reactions or Dr Frank's point of misallocation of funding.
Lightning: Links not working (or relevant to the question) I think if Mbeki wanted to target a minority, there'd be more effective ways? Rather far-fetched theory.
Truthseeker: I'm not sending you emails because after you sent the one above you blocked me, remember?
Lightning: Thanks for the link. So, 100,000 out of a population of 300 million compared to 300,000 out of a population of 50 million? I make that a death rate of 18 times more with alt med. Certainly the closest to an answer so far!
Answer: I take a couple days off here because I break my butt and a really good question almost slipped by me. Pfft! just my luck ;)
Considering that in much of the world "alternative" stuff IS the only treatment for known killers - and those known killers don't seem to be slowing down (AIDS, TB, Malaria, et al.) and because I officially need to answer....I'm going to go with one hecka lot - many of which are inexcusable due to various economic and political reasons.
Question: If a plane crash survivor dies years after a crash as a result of the crash are they part of the death toll? im curious. when do they officially stop counting the death toll in plane crashes?
what if a survivor died many years later after a crash, and their death was a result from injuries or wounds they got in the crash.
do they add them to the death toll?
Answer: Yes. The death toll never stops.
Question: Does anybody know the death toll from 1973 Eldfell volcanic eruption? The volcano is on Iceland and there are numerous pages on the internet about it but no actual death toll figures.
Any Ideas?
Answer: Miraculously, nobody died in that eruption. Everyone was evacuated from the island in a matter of hours.
There are no death toll figures because there was no death toll. :)
Question: why do libreals care so much about the death toll in iraq? 3,000 deaths in iraq to a libreal is horrible and according to them 3,000 young people loseing there life is a sin against humanity
100,000 abortons on the other hand is fine infact killing babys should be every human's right according to libreals.
Why do Libreals claim they hate the war in iraq because of the death toll? Your fine with thousands of babys getting there brains getting sucked out threw a tube, the death toll in iraq should be a minor concern to libreals due to the fact that death and killing is something there party supports.
Let me make this clear to all you liberals who decided instead of answering the question you verbally insult me. I think that ALL death is bad. To me there is no difference between someone wearing a stethoscope takeing a life and someone wearing a turban takeing a life. To me there are both horrible. My question was not which is worse than the other, or anything to do with the iraq war, or Bush. My question was simple. Why do libreals(vast majority) think that it is okay for someone to be murded in a doctor's office but it(to liberals) is not okay to be murdered in iraq. please rember I am not saying that it is ok to be murderded in iraq afganistan or anywhere by that matter. This question was asked to libreals I was NOT stateing my oppinion on matter I was merely asking a question please answer it.
Answer: Why do you care about aborted fetuses and not for an adult human who has a family, people who loves them and who they love?
Your stance is more bizarre and heartless to me than mine.
Your disregard for death in Iraq is very telling of the cold hearted murderous pretentious selfish devils who call themselves republicans.
Your objection to abortion is actually spiteful punishment leveled against the pregnant woman, than a desire to save a life. You could care less about babies or fetuses; that's just your pathetic public relations cover for your true reasons.
You're all just a bunch of miserable hypocrites who get your happiness from seeing others unhappy or suffering.
And that, satan, is why you don't care about any deaths in Iraq.
Question: Which disaster holds the highest death toll? Which disaster, whether natural or performed by man, has the highest death toll?
I'm pretty sure it's the Black Death (aka the Bubonic Plague aka The Pestilence) but I need to be 100% POSITIVE!
Answer: The Black Death did not kill a quarter as many people as the flu pandemic in the 1920's. Was it the Spanish Flu? Not sure of the actual dates but you won't top it. This is the world's worst pandemic ever. As a matter of fact if we have a full breakout (human to human strain) of the bird flu the scientists are comparing it to that.
The worst man made disaster would have to be the nuclear bombings by the USA of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Question: Do you think its unfair that the liberal media refuses to report that the death toll of katrina was less than? the death toll of the oil spill, just because its somehow "factual". I mean this is Obama's Katrina, and there are at least 0's of thousands of people who are dead but the media refuses to report it. What can be done about the liberal media and their obsession with "facts"
Answer: The media's obsession with facts is a severe detriment to the anti-Obama propaganda efforts. That obsession is however being countered at every opportunity by some outlets. Fox News and Talk Radio and giving it their best efforts.
Question: Why is the proportional death toll for US marines in Iraq is nearly twice as high as the army's? Marines generally recieve better training and are more specialized, but why is their proportionate death toll higher?
and none of this "because the marines suck!" crap
Answer: Honestly, some of the other answers were close. But the real reason (in my opinion) is training. Army soldiers are trained to take charge - regardless of rank, and get things done. We pound it into our kids heads that they MUST know how to lead and take over in a fight, if the leaders are killed, there is no communication - whatever it is. USMC personnel rely heavily on officers(meaning they are WAY to involved) and aren't "allowed" to exercise much initiative at lower enlisted ranks - the result is that when a marine element gets split apart in a fight, alot of those kids don't know what to do. (being split up could be as simple as half the squad on one side of the street under fire, and the other half down the block a ways...) It's a tactical training difference - and it starts at the institutional level (Basic and Boot Camp). Neither service is "better" than the other, it is just a cold fact of doctrine and training.
The statistical difference as mentioned is correct - there aren't as many marines there as Army, so it does come out worse ratio wise.
Marines are not "better" trained and are specialized for amphibious assaults and naval to ground operations.
Honestly, the marine and Army infantryman is trained about the same skill-wise - it's just the training differences and the leadership differences. I think you will start to see a shift away from that trend soon.
