Ashworth and Clayton are examples of unaccredited crackpot schools.
Question: What are the best schools that offer online degrees in nutrition? I am interested in possibly becoming a dietition or nutritionist and was wondering what the best schools in Michigan are that offer those degrees online.
Answer: Stick to this basic rule;
Enroll in STATE COLLEGES that offer on line degrees.
MOST of the on line colleges are NOT accreated so when you graduate, you will not be able to get a job .
And state colleges are cheaper, a lot cheaper, than private on-line schools.
Question: Which Collge or University offers an online degree in nutrition or dietetics?
Answer: Try these:
1. University of Phoenix

6. UMassOnline
I believe they are all accredited. More info on accreditation can be found at http://distancelearningdegree.com

Question: Online Degrees for Nutrition? Please help? Okay, I'm trying to help my mama find a career that she would be happier with. I am 16 years old and I also have an 11 year old sister. She works at Walmart in the dairy section and is very unhappy with her job. I hate to see her unhappy about anything, especailly something she has to do everyday. Well, she has always been interested in being a nurse but that would require going to campus, and she simply does not have the time. I know that can work around her schedule. but her schedule is so out of balance and random. An online school would be ideal for her, but they unfortunately do not have online nursing schools. So, I asked her about what she thinks of being a nutritionist. She is interested. Now, to the question. How long would it take to get her degree online for Nutrition and get a decent paying job?
I appreciate any information or advice on what else she could do.
Thank you and have a wonderful day.
Answer: As I know, this site has top listing of such college courses online - schools.iblogger.org

Question: How do I find an accredited Health and Nutrition online course? I am looking to start an online degree in Health and Nutrition (or something very similar). The problem is I don't know of any accredited courses. A lot of places are offering similar ones but I just don't know where to start in finding out if they are good courses or not. Has anyone here ever done a course in the same or a similar subject, how did you find it went, and has it made you more confident about finding a job after? I cannot go back to study full time or even part time as I currently work two jobs (one full time during the day and one a few evenings a week) and need to pay a mortgage!
Many thanks in advance for any help!

Question: I want to take a Ba of HumanEcology(Community Nutrition)online do u have an idea where that degree would lead? I'm an African living in Saudi Arabia & this is the only interesting degree that I found to me 'cause I like to study nutrition. by the way the university providing it is the University of South Africa if u know anything 'bout it plz inform me. Or if u have better choices I'll be very grateful. Thank u
Answer: "Careers in community nutrition include positions in public health, outpatient care, wellness/health promotion, sports nutrition, nursing homes/intermediate care facilities, and mental health/mental retardation facilities. Other employment opportunities include corporate wellness, food industry marketing and sales, writing/advertising positions within the newspaper, magazine, radio/television industry, and private practice in fields such as pediatrics, diabetes management, cardiac rehabilitation, obstetrics, eating disorders, geriatrics, immunology, and numerous other nutrition specializations."
http://www.nut.tcu.edu/community.htm
"Community dietitians counsel individuals and groups on nutritional practices designed to prevent disease and promote health. Working in places such as public health clinics, home health agencies, and health maintenance organizations, community dietitians evaluate individual needs, develop nutritional care plans, and instruct individuals and their families. Dietitians working in home health agencies provide instruction on grocery shopping and food preparation to the elderly, individuals with special needs, and children. Increased public interest in nutrition has led to job opportunities in food manufacturing, advertising, and marketing. In these areas, dietitians analyze foods, prepare literature for distribution, or report on issues such as the nutritional content of recipes, dietary fiber, or vitamin supplements."

The degree program at the University of South Africa sounds pretty comprehensive and you can do it all online. There are few other schools that offer this degree that way. The Wikipedia page for this university makes it sound like a good school:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_South_Africa
To find more schools that offer this degree, one place to start would be to go to the "dietetic association" for the country in which you would get the degree. Here's a page of links to those associations:

In the USA this field of study is mostly only available as a master's degree program. There is one online bachelor's degree in "Community Health" (it includes much of what you'd be studying at Unisa) at Northern Arizona Univ. (USA) :
http://www.distance.nau.edu/programs/degreedetails.aspx?degreeID=23
All in all, I think your choice of Community Nutrition at Unisa is a good one if you want to study nutrition and work for the public good!
Question: is a online degree or certification just as good as going to a college to get one? I have been interested in getting a certification for nutrition, health and wellness and possibly earn a doctoral degree in that career; however, I do not want to pay out extra money to do something on-line if it is not validated enough. I did find a on-line college I was interested in called Clayton school of natural health. Right now I am attending Anne Arundel community college and then I will transfer to Maryland University. Please, anyone give me your expertise and or opinions! Thanks!
Angie
Answer: A couple of years ago I did my own personal research to find a good on-line college. The sentiment I got from most of the on-line colleges was that they are more show, shock and awe, if you will, then actually focused on learning. In a way, they were more focused marketing of their school name/programs. Of course this isn't true of all on-line colleges, it was just a common trend among the schools I researched.
One school in particular was terrible. I received dozens of calls from their "representatives" and tons of emails almost begging me to enroll. I personally used that as a gauge of how wisely each school used their money. The schools which only sent me the requested information I considered more seriously (because they didn't waist money on marketing).
For me, it comes down to how the school values your tuition dollars. If they are going to spend it on increasing enrollment numbers, they have less to spend on improving the learning environment.
The other area of concern for me was the transferability of credits. In the United States there is no government accreditation, only private national or regional accreditation agencies. Getting credits to transfer between two schools who use different accreditation agencies will be more difficult (sometimes impossible). If you plan to move to a different school or continue with your doctoral degree, make sure you do your research on your school(s) of choice!
One last tidbit about accreditation. Most on-line colleges are accredited by national accreditation bodies while most traditional local/state college/universities are accredited by regional bodies.
As far as which degree is worth more, on-line or traditional college? It all comes down to which school will work best for you. There are a few highly regarded on-line colleges out there which offer a quality education on par with many traditional colleges.
Question: Looking for on-line PhD nutritio program that is good? I work full time and there are no schools close by that offer a PhD in nutrition. I am a registered dietitian who went to school at the university of pittsburgh for 6 years obtaining first a BS in clinical dietetics and nutrition then getting a MS in exercise physiology. Nutrition is my passion and I would like a PhD in nutrition but there are no schools that offer it around Pittsburgh. I work full time so I need online courses. Do you think on-line degrees are good and will it help advance my career? What schools have PhD in nutrition? I checked google but it is taking forever? Anyone have an online nutrition degree? Has it helped you professionally?
You are wrong you can get PhD's on-line
http://shrp.umdnj.edu/nutr/gpcn_course_schedule.html
I am looking for more schools like the one above.
Answer: For a PhD you will need to actually attend university. You could probably get away with an online program for a masters degree, but PhD work in the sciences (I'm assuming nutrition as you describe it would fall in the sciences with biology somewhere) requires 40 hours/week in a lab.
Most PhD students are supported for their work though, the average is approx. 20K/year for a grad student. It's a large 5-6 year commitment, and will likely be a huge lifestyle change for you if you currently have a well paying job, but could be worth it if you wish to take that life path. Good Luck!
Question: Question about a bachelors degree in nutrition science? I want to get my bachelors in nutrition science but I need to know what courses are required/essential for the associates degree first. I want to attend an online college and want to transfer my credits eventually. Anyone doing the same or have any info on this?
Answer: Here is the link for the prerequisites and course work for a B.S. in Nutrition at Pitt.
http://www.shrs.pitt.edu/CMS/Departments/SMN.asp
I'm not sure if they accept any on-line credits but sometimes they accept them from community colleges.
Question: im looking into online colleges. Is it true that employers think twice about hiring people with online degrees? Im really interested in nutrition and hope to become a nutritionist. unfortunatly i've recently been informed that some employers dont like the online degrees i was wondering if this is acutally true.
Answer: As long as the college (online or campus based) is regionally accredited, any degree you earn should be accepted by any potential employers or other academic institutions.
My best recommendation would be to contact a number of colleges to find the best fit for you and your needs (tuition, schedule, career opportunities, etc.). Too often people enroll in the first school they find rather than taking the time to find the best school for them. Taking that time now could save you a lot of time, money and frustration if you choose the wrong school.
This site has some good info on regionally accredited online degrees and some colleges that offer them to help expand your search:
http://www.ecollegefinder.org
I think you can enter your info on there for any colleges you are interested in and they will send you more info for free. Good Luck!
Question: What should I major in? MUST find a degree program 100% online!!!? I attended college between 1993-1999 (off and on as my schedule permitted). I was actually paying my own way through college and the debt just became too overwhelming. My major was Interior Design (not decorating). I know that major is going to be too time intensive...considering where I am in my life, now. I'm married, have an elementary aged child, no family living nearby, husband who works many hours, and I am working full time as well. I basically need to start over. I know that many of my credits are just too old now or just won't apply to a degree in Business or Nutrition, etc. I need a program that A. is near or less than $3000/year, B. 100% online (no A.A. or A.S. Degree as a requirement), and C. will be possible for me to earn more than $30K/year. I am interested in Nutrition (not cooking), Computer related programs (IT), possibly Speech, possibly business, possibly human resources. Thank you for any input you may have to offer.
Answer: For a list of online degree programs by field of study, check out Peterson's:
http://www.petersons.com/distancelearning/code/search.asp.
If you're interested in Interior Design still you may be able to apply much of your previous study to complete a degree or certificate program. Here's a list of schools in Florida with are accredited Interior Design schools:
http://www.accredit-id.org/accreditedprograms.html#florida
If you are seriously considering another field but not sure about what you'd like to do for what you need to make financially, visit the Occupational Outlook Handbook (http://www.bls.gov/oco/) by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. On this website you can run a search on a certain field of study/employment and check out what the job entails, the type and level of study and certification is required, and the future employment outlook.
PS. I'm glad to see your question again, b/c I felt horrible that you couldn't find the information I'd provided for you in the last question about Nutrition porgrams in Florida. So to answer your original question, here are the schools in Florida which offer programs in nutrition:
Bachelor's Degree: Florida State University & Miami Dade College
Associate's Degree: Broward Community College, Hillsborough Community College & Pensacola Community College.
