Question: What type of food causes light diarrhea? I've been getting some diarrhea (nothing too horrible, but not normal bowel movements) for the past week or so.
I admit that i've been eating too much bread with cream cheese and bologne, but i didn't think that would cause diarrhea.
No plums or dried fruits, which i now cause diarrhea.
So what other foods could it be?
Answer: Normal amounts of cheese won't cause diarrhea, but if you are consuming excessive amounts of milk products (like cream cheese), than can very likely cause your diarrhea.
Try cutting back and see if you still get loose bowels.
Question: How to prevent diarrhea from taking an antibiotic? I have to take Metformin because I have PCOS. I just started taking it for the first time once at dinner tonight. Now I have diarrhea. I know it's a side effect and all, but is there anyway I can prevent it? I have school on Monday and I don't know how to survive school without having to go to the bathroom a lot. Any suggestions on that? Also, how long does diarrhea usually last with Metformin?
Thanks!
Sorry! It's not an antibiotic, I was wrong! Lol.
Answer: I don't know how long it will last, but my daughters doctor recommended Florastor while she was taking medication. It is sold at most pharmacies and it is basically the good stuff found in yogurt that regulates your stomach. It really worked wonders for her and he cousins. Good luck!
Question: What is causing diarrhea in my 14 week old puppy? She had he 1st set of shots 6 days ago. She had diarrhea right away, then it cleared up for 2 days, but has started again.
Also, any suggestions on what to feed her. I have been giving her plain rice for now.
Answer: Keep her on the rice, you can add some canned or baked (no skin for now) chicken. Just keep her food bland. Is there any blood in the stool? Are pieces of chew toys, furniture , shoes (you get the idea) missing? It may be a simple case of Colitis. It may also be from her teething. Watch for dehydration, a unquenchable thirst, lack of activity are a couple of signs. Good Luck.
Question: What are some good treatments for antibiotic associated diarrhea? For antibiotic associated diarrhea, my doctor tells me that eating yogurt is good for getting a lot of the good bacteria that antibiotics kill and that bananas and apple juice are good for replacing the potassium lost from diarrhea. Are there any other remedies that are good for treating antibiotic associated diarrhea?
Answer: Pro biotics and acidophilous, as previous posters have said. Yogourt is good if you are getting one with active cultures and no added sugar.
I would actually limit the consumption of juice as it delivers a lot of sugar to the system. Sugar will nourish the yeast that is free to grow while the antibiotics are killing the friendly bacteria that control it.
Limit sugars, take plain psyllium hulls which are a fiber that will help regulate without artificial ingredients. Eating rice, oatmeal, drinking water are all good things.
Also drinking kombucha or adding a tablespoon of braggs (or other brand) organic apple cider vinegar with the mother included can help replenish the healthy flora and electrolytes,
Good luck I hope you feel better.
Question: How long does diarrhea usually last after finishing antibiotics? My son is 5 months old and recently has taken antibiotics for an ear infection. As soon as he started them he began to have green runny stools. Dr said that it was normal while taking meds but he finished them over a week ago and still has diarrhea. Is this normal?
Answer: Took my 10 month old over a week. The antibiotics usually stay in their systems for 10 days after finished. So, don't be suprised if it sticks around over a week after being finished.
Question: What is the best way to cure diarrhea aside from apples and bananas? My 9 month old baby has some sort of diarrhea and it's been going on for 3 days. She doesn't want to drink what the doctor prescribed to her - the pedialyte - and she wants to drink milk instead which makes her diarrhea worse. I don't know what to do anymore.
Answer: Diarrhea is like cough in the sense that it isn't actually a disease but a defense mechanism. We cough because there is something blocking our airway and we need to expell it. We have diarrhea because there is somthing we ate which needs to be expelled out of our digestive tract. Thus cough suppressants and anti-diarrheal medications which temporarily paralyze our intestines MUST be used with caution since they might actually make the situation worse by preventing the thing the needs to be expelled from being expelled.
For the pediatric age group, what's important is for you to watch out for signs of dehydration. Its not the diarrhea which is dangerous but the dehyrdation. That is why children are never given loperamide. They're given pedialyte and other rehydrating substances, BECAUSE it is dangerous for a baby to become dehydrated. The fluid lost in the stool MUST be replaced with an almost equal volume of oral fluid intake.
As for milk making things worse, NOT unless the actual source of the diarrhea is an allergy to her milk formula, milk doesn't make it worse. If your pediatrician was suspecting milk allergy as the cause, then he/she would have instructed you to change milk formulas. Milk rehydrates as well as pedialyte and will NOT make the diarrhea worse. Its better than not taking anything at all. Milk nourishes and rehydrates at the same time.
If your baby refuses to take any fluid at all (including milk) then this is one of the ominous signs of dehydration. You should go to the ER right away if ever this happens.
Question: How many days of diarrhea do I have to endure before labor starts? Ok. I've had diarrhea off and on for a week now. Now regular bowels at all. How long do I have to endure this before labor starts?
Answer: I've had diarrhea off & on through out my pregnancy (currently 33 weeks)....It was a stomach virus at 1st & now it's just my prenatals....Just make sure you are getting enough fluids & electrolytes...& make sure your Dr. knows
Question: What can you feed a hamster with diarrhea? I just bought a dwarf hamster the other day and he has diarrhea. I haven't fed him any types of vegetables, just normal hamster food. He seems to be acting normal. I want to know if there are any certain foods i can give him to stop the diarrhea?
Answer: a vet told me once when I had a hamster that got "wet tail" (diarrhea) to take a drop of Kaopectate, mix it with 2 drops of water, then give the hamster ONE DROP of the mixture, no more. Any more than that can kill the hamster. it worked
Usually the diarrhea is caused by a change of diet for the hamster. in other words, the type of food you got for him isn't the exact same stuff that was being fed to him in the store. It's not your fault or anything, it is something that does happen.
Good luck.
Question: What could be causing diarrhea to my dog? He has been eating the same kind of food for more than a month now, his stool has never been hard ever since he had "beneful" by Purina, but for a week now he has had diarrhea. The only thing I feed him is dog food.
Before he used to eat Science Diet, but it would give him really bad breath. He doesn't have fleas or tics, other than this he is a healthy dog. What can I do before taking him to the vet?
Answer: Beneful is full of filler, less nutrients
Switch back to the other food or find something better. As for the breath by mint dog snacks
Question: How do I stop diarrhea without medication? I have it and went to the doctor after having abdominal pains. I'm already dehydrated. I have no problems drinking lots of water but I have to keep up with it as long as I have diarrhea and it won't stop! My doctor won't let me take medication for the diarrhea. Isn't the medicatin supposed to stop diarrhea if I have it?
Answer: I'm not sure if there is anything except to prevent bladder issues. You can find a lot of them over the counter at your local CVS or Walgreens! Either look under the aisle with feminine products or one with houses stomach cures! I hope this helps!

Question: What are some advantages of having diarrhea? if someone gets sick or gets diarrhea what is anything good? Is diarrhea better than rock hard feces? Why is it that when i have diarrhea, I could empty more waste in my stomach than when normal? What are good things and bad things about diarrhea?
Answer: Good thing I guess would be ridding your body of something that it does not agree with. There are too many bad things to name.
Question: What are the causes of diarrhea in a dog? He is a 7 month old lab . Got neutered 2 weeks ago. We did buy a new bag of puppy food about a week ago. Same kind as before,we didn't change brands. He has had diarrhea for 3 days now.
Answer: Probably something he ate. As long as he is alert and active it is something you can handle at home.
Feed him a soft diet of room temp. cottage cheese or yogurt with rice in small meals 3 times a day for a day or two and slowly switch back to his regular food. This will restore the normal flora in his digestive tract.
If he becomes listless or any other symptoms take him to the vet.
Question: What are the symptoms of diarrhea for my dog? My dog pooped and it was very wet and while he was walking it was dripping all over the floor, is that a sign of diarrhea?
What are the signs?
Answer: Diarrhea can come in a watery solid to a very watery liquid and is extreme depending on the amount of times he goes. I wouldn't be overly concerned unless the feces contains blood, worms or goes on for longer than two or three days. Feed him cooked rice until his stomach settles.
Question: How do you clean pet diarrhea treated with dewormer? My cat who was just treated for worms had diarrhea on the carpet. I'm no stranger to animal poop, but the worm medication gives it a particularly pungent smell. It's like a dirty diaper crossed with garbage. How do I remove the diahrrea from the carpet and get rid of the smell?
Answer: Your vet can give you an enzyme cleaner or you can get one at your pet store. I've had wonderful luck with Wisk detergent that's been diluted. I would also use Lysol to disinfect the carpeting. Unfortunate side effect of de-wormer, huh?
Question: How do you get dog diarrhea out of a microfiber couch? My dog has REALLY bad diarrhea and when my husband came home from work today she had pooped all over one half of the couch. The couch is a microfiber tan material and it soaked through onto the down blend pillows...any suggestions on what to do besides buying a new couch. The couch is just over a year old!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
The dog already has an appointment to go to the vet. It's pretty apparent that she needs to be seen.
