Diet Rules
Question: What are some really easy diet rules for me to lose weight? I am on a mission to lose 15 pounds. I want to create healthier habits for the future. I want to lose weight THE RIGHT WAY and I want to KEEP THE WEIGHT OFF. Any surefire, super easy tips/tricks to lose the pounds?
Answer: I've lost quite a bit of weight and several of the things I did were, quit all sodas, drink lots of water, eat more fresh foods instead of stuff in boxes. Replace the unhealthy snacks with healthier ones. Instead of Ice cream grab a yogurt, instead of candy bar, cereal bar (whole wheat).
One of the biggest things for me was getting rid of white breads and going whole wheat for everything.
Good Luck

Question: Now that I'm breastfeeding have the diet rules changed? So I know you can't eat things like sushi and high mercury fish when pregnant, is the same true while breastfeeding? Is there anything else I should be avoiding other than the obvious of cigarettes and such?
Awesome, I quit smoking in December when I found out I was pregnant, so no worries there. Mostly I missed sushi tremendously, lol.
Answer: You can eat anything you enjoy, including alcohol and caffeine in moderation.
If you smoke and can't quit, it's acceptable to do so, but of course you wouldn't want to start smoking now. (Or at any other time.)
IF you find that baby seems fussy/gassy after you eat a particular food, try eliminating that food for a few days and see if it helps matters. But most babies aren't bothered by anything mom eats, and you can eat a normal diet.

Question: What are the basic rules of Atkins diet? I understand the basic is to just eat meat...
But isnt there a certain amount of carbs allowed?
What else is?
Any advice or tips?
Thanks in advance
Adam
Answer: You will lose more body fat eating protein and fat (don't eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast eat all you want but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter and half an avocado a day (you'll need added potassium). Keep the calories high and the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Adding in green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.
Your body won't release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow your metabolism to compensate and store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering your calories, it will continue lowering that set point, til you can survive off nothing and store fat on anything. The body will only release it's fat stores if it knows there is plenty of food.
Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) and exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.
The core of the Atkins program is converting your body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). You need to keep your fat levels at >65% of your calories, if you don't your body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).
It takes minimum of 3 days to convert your body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis) you will probably feel sluggish the first week but most people feel better than ever thereafter.
Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) triggers insulin which can store the calories you eat into fat. The more protein you eat the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate you eat the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.
Simple carbs are addictive and can be disastrous to our health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs and eat one every time you want "something" have huge omelets for breakfast, with bacon, a lil onion, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops for lunch. Get pork rinds and eat them with tuna salad. Steak for dinner. Make a huge sugar free cheese cake for dessert. Eat so much you won't feel deprived of anything. By the fourth day, your addiction will be gone and you can start making healthy choices.
High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger and unbalance other hormones. Controlling your insulin level will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so you will gain lean muscle even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase your muscle mass with high HGH levels.
Ground flax seed (2 Tbsp) 1/4 cup of water, cinnamon, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle and nuke for 1.5 min. for hot cereal or 2 min. for more of a muffin type thing. Great low carb, high fiber treat. Suggested for daily fiber needs.
The first 2 weeks you can have several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce and celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers and more variety of vegetables thereafter add 5 grams per day additional (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) every week til you gain weight, then you subtract 10 carbs. That would give you your personal carb level (everyone is different and it depends on how active you are.) As long as you remain <9 carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control, and shouldn't gain weight.
Many people gain weight on high carb, then switch to low carb to lose weight & then are shocked when they return to high carb that they gain weight. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar and maintain weight or health.
Dr.Atkins was a cardiologist, low carb was a health plan easier sold as a "diet" Read any of his books for easily understandable science. Normalizing blood pressure, blood sugar, insulin, cholesterol, triglyercerides and hormone levels are all bonus features of doing a low carb way of eating. Lutz "Life without Bread" & Taubes "Good calories, Bad calories" are excellent books that dispel all the nutrition myths.
Reducing body fat and increasing muscle mass will have you in awesome shape in no time. Good luck!

Question: What are the rules in a low carb diet? i've tried dieting for the last year with little success. mostly i just counted calories. but i think it wasnt working for me because of the carb intake since i wasnt watching that. so now i really want to do a low carb diet. anyone know how this work, how many carbs u are supposed to have a day etc and has it ever worked for u.
Answer: about 140 g in carbs a day should be about right anymore tan that and it's over board. Also if you are trying to lose wait, you should just know that about 20 minutes of working out only burns the fat content that you stored for the day, it is after the twenty minutes that you really start to burn the stored fats. Lets use carbs for example, lets say you decide to eat carbs for lunch your body will store it for use later. If never used on the other hand then the food will go with the rest of the fat. Its easier to just not eat anything fattening like carbs, simple sugar, and low protein so your body when exercising can go right to your stored fat.
Question: What are the rules of a fruit diet? Can you have as much fruit as you like and some juices? And a handful of nuts maybe?
Answer: i haven't heard of just fruit, but fruit and veggies. you do it for only two weeks, and you only eat the fruit and veggies, nothing else. and only drink water. but, you can have as much as you want. during the second week, you can add fish or chicken to one meal, i think. it helps you lose like, 5-10 pounds, i think, but i heard it was difficult!
no nuts!
Question: What are the rules of the sugar cleanse diet? Title says all, could someone please post what is acceptable and unacceptable to eat while on the sugar cleanse?
Thanks :)
Answer: You eliminate all forms of sugar from your diet including honey and maple syrup for 21 days. You also stop consuming white flour for that period of time and avoid sugar substitutes.
You eat things like rice pasta, eggs, raw milk, raw cheese, herbal teas, lots of water and lots of vegetables.
"She found that her new sugar-free diet, combined with regular exercise, was an effective way of getting healthier."
Looks easy. Cleanse is a bit of a myth, the body is self cleansing. Eat a good diet and take exercise, look after your body and it will take care of itself.
Question: basic diet rules?? please help? I want to lose wieght and go from a size 10/12 to a 8/10 (UK)
what basic diet rules should I follow??
all help appreciated :)

Answer: Q. How does food fit into my day?
A. Before you jump into a diet program with both feet, consider your lifestyle so that you set yourself up for success:
* Are you a parent who prepares all the meals? Consider diets that aren’t disruptive to your routine. Too many restrictions will sabotage your best intentions. Adapt a diet that won’t have you doing double duty at mealtime.
* Are you a single, active professional? Access and time to exercise at gyms, studios, and nearby parks will be a boon to any diet you choose. Sustain your energy levels by choosing a diet that isn’t too low in calories or fat.
* Do you travel extensively for work? Think ahead to what you can realistically eat on the road. Narrow food choices or nutrient-balancing diets will make eating out an arduous task. Incorporate exercise routines into your daily plans whether it’s booking a hotel with a gym or packing running shoes for each trip.
Q. How do I best like to eat?
A. Rather than deny your innermost urges, let your personality take center stage when finding the right diet:
* Are you highly organized and detail-oriented? You might lean toward nutrient-balancing (The Zone) or low-fat diets that give you precise guidelines to follow.
* Do you work best with outside motivation? Support group weight-loss programs, such as Weight Watchers, work for many people who succeed when fellow dieters are there to cheer and reinforce their diet goals.
* Are you an avid snacker or a three-meals–a-day person? Diets with prepackaged foods parse meals out in neat, calorie-counted packets; this might work for people who feel their snacking calories add up to too much. Three-squares-a-day people might find that nutrient-balancing diets or low-carb, high-protein diets sustain them between meals.
* Are you a vegetarian? High-protein diets that emphasize meat and dairy rule out the vegetarian crowd, while low-fat, high-fiber diets more closely approximate an herbivore’s eating patterns.
Q. How can I get in enough exercise?
A. Choosing an exercise routine that you enjoy will help you lose weight and keep it off, so try to work in a workout that you can stick to:
* Do you like to work out alone? Try running, cycling, or swimming.
* Do you need the motivation of a gym? Take up weight-lifting, exercise classes, or hire a personal trainer.
* Do you like the camaraderie of team sports? Join a rowing, soccer, or other team.
* Do you crave adventure? Take up kayaking, rock climbing, or other outdoor fun.
Regardless of which diet you choose, aim to lose weight slowly, 1/2 to 2 pounds (0.25 to 0.9 kg) per week. Eat smaller portions and take in fewer calories than you expend. Don’t skip meals in an effort to cut calories. Make eating moderately and sensibly your lifelong diet!
Question: What are the general rules to the Atkins diet? Any links to daily-plan ideas would be great too =]
Answer: eat very few carbs, or no carbs at all.
every once in a while have a day off.
drink lots of water.
carbs are found in breads, pastas, sugars, starches, etc. familiarize yourself with these and then avoid them.
Question: Does anybody know the rules for the Kekwick Diet? Or Fat Fast diet? Please don't go off at how bad this diet is, I don't want to hear it, and you don't know what your talking about.
Answer: The Kekwick Diet was named after one of its developers, Alan Kekwick. It was documented in a study titled:
"Calorie Intake in Relation to Body Weight Changes in the Obese," Lancet, July 28, 1956, 155-161 by Alan Kekwick and Gaston Pawan.
Basically what they did was to take a group of overweight subjects and put them in three groups. Each group received 1000 calories per day. One group was fed 90% carbohydrates, the second group 90% protein, and the third group 90% fat.
The group receiving 90% carbohydrates gained an average of 0,24 pounds per day of the study. The group receiving 90 protein lost an average of 0,6 pounds per day of the study, and the group receiving 90% fat lost an average of 0,9 pounds per day of the study.
This clearly demonstrates the superiority of diets high in protein and fats over diets high in carbohydrates. Note that each group received only 1000 calories per day. It's interesting to note that even at the very restricted level of 1000 calories per day, subjects fed 90% carbohydrates actually GAINED weight.
A 1000 calorie per day diet of 90% fat is not a very exciting diet, but it can achieve the fat loss you apparently wish to achieve.
Do a search for "Alan Kekwick" in Google and you'll find several actual diets based on their research.
Do please note that the Kekwick is a diet designed by doctors and tested in clinical trials, so don't be in too much of a hurry to dismiss it outright. It certainly isn't a diet that should be widely used, however.
Finally, I do NOT recommend that you use the Kekwick diet unless you are extremely insulin resistant and have not been able to lose body fat on any other diet, including a more conventional low-carbohydrate diet.
WARNING: it is dangerous to lose body fat too quickly!
Question: What are the rules and guidelines of the Vegetarian South Beach diet?
The South Beach Diet is to lose weight - it has phases with different things you can eat at different phases. Why answer the question if you don't know jack crap about it?
Answer: I understand what you were probably thinking, but you should remember that vegetarians and South Beach-dieters are MORTAL ENEMIES :-D
This is a little bit like asking a cattle rancher for veggie burger recipes (sigh)
The South Beach diet is the little sister of the Atkins diet (also called "modified Atkins"). The Atkins diet is something no sane vegetarian or vegan will ever help you with, here are some reasons: http://www.atkinsdietalert.org/survivors/mari_madlem.html
Mr.Atkins himself was overweight (!!!), had several heart attacks and died finally due to NOT NATURAL causes (which are until today kept as secret as possible by the worldwide Atkins diet business). If somebody who is advertising for a certain diet and lifestyle is unable to prove on his OWN example that this approach works - then I call such a person simply a swindler and a liar :-/
There is some type of weight loss possible with Atkins or South Beach - for MAXIMUM 6 months (and mostly due to the severely restrictive type of eating), after that the majority of all dieters breaks down and starts eating the same as before. They get all their weight back in no time PLUS extra pounds PLUS ruined health due to overdose on animal proteins.
If you want REAL weight loss, and advice from REAL doctors (who prove with perfect health and slender appearance that their approach REALLY works and keeps you healthy), try the Dr.McDougall diet (http://www.drmcdougall.com/star.html ) or the Dr.Fuhrman program (http://www.drfuhrman.com/success/success.aspx ), here you have proven guarantee for good health AND losing unnecessary pounds
Question: what are the "rules" of a low carb/high protein diet? i want to go on a low carb/high protein diet... but i don't know the specifics. can anyone tell me the "rules/guidelines" to this diet. like how many carbs are allowed in one day... so on an so fourth.
Answer: It depends on what stage you are in. To begin, carbs should be very low. This allows you to adjust by getting used to burning fat instead of glycogen (stored carbs).
Here's a primer on the beginning stage.
http://www.freetheanimal.com/root/2008/09/a-little-heads-up-for-beginners.html
After that, however, you may want to gradually shift to a more "Paleo" eating patter, i.e., Real Food.

Question: can anyone tell me the exact diet/rules/science of the atkins diet please? i need to know everything! and some recipe ideas etc
