Diets
Question: Diets????? Hey guys I've tried many diets-- they just aren't working for me. I need to lose at least 20 pounds... any good diets or tips?
Thanks.
Answer: let me show you what worked for me. No long winded speeches, no fad diet nonsense here. Eat what you like. Just keep it to1200 calories a day (healthier is better obviously) and sweat and I mean SWEAT!! for 30-40 minutes a day 6-7 days a week (60 minutes if you can manage it). Remember the more you sweat the more you can add to your eating plan. Write down everything you eat with calorie content. This will give you an overall look at where you need to make changes. Don't eat after 6 pm ever. Don't cheat, you're only fooling yourself and don't skip workouts. You should be losing about between 2-3 pounds a week, which is a healthy rate without starving yourself...Good luck!
Question: What diets would you consider extreme and unhealthy? I'm trying to do research about obesity and dieting habits in America. A lot of the diets I am seeing are pretty brutal. What are the craziest diets you have taken? Do you know anyone who has jeopardized their health from dieting? And what extremes have you gone to?
Answer: People that do only the one part of the master cleanse. i.e. distilled water, lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper. When they do it for more than 3 days, it can be very unhealthy since your body isn't getting minerals like sodium and potassium which are pretty much necessary for your heart to beat!!
I had a friend who did this for 10 days and he lost weight alright, he lost muscle!! He also had decreased brain function....
Question: What are some fad diets that actually work? I really want to lose about 10-15 pounds in about a month or so. I've always wanted to try fad diets and decided that I think this might be the right time to do it so I can lose some belly fat before swimsuit season. Anyone have any diets that they think might work? Of course i'm also going to be exercising but need some tips on what to eat.
Answer: Fad diets don't work on the long term, if they did, you'll see them everywhere. High chances are that if you do lose 10 - 15 pounds in a month, you'll likely gain it back very quickly. A regular diet is your best choice. Eating junk foods once in a while is fine, majority of the time you want to eat the foods you know you should be eating, in other words more cooking, less buying microwavable junk.
Question: What are some fad diets that actually worked for you? Diets that involve either packaged meals or ways to eat, like Nutrisystem. I want people to only speak from experience here. I know Nutrisystem seems great but the food like really disgusting and I would not eat it everyday. I don't want to know about Weight Watchers either. I exericse regularly but I need a good eating pattern. Not looking to be told to eat plenty of vegetables and acai berries. Looking for input on fad meal planning diets. Thanks!
Answer: hello, ok lets see if i can help you ...my dad drinks this one thing called LINAZA every morning. It cleans your stomach , its great he has lost weight by drinking this and plus is great for your body.
Question: What are the different types of vegetarian diets utilized in society? What are the different benefits and risks associated with vegetarian diets?
Are you for or against vegetarian diets?
Im am writing a paper on vegetarian diets and know nothing about them... can anyone help?
Answer: The main types of vegetarian are ovo-lacto vegetarian, meaning someone who doesn't eat meat, poultry, or fish but does eat eggs and dairy, and vegan, someone who doesn't eat any animal products.
There are many benefits to vegetarian/vegan diets. Modern animal agriculture (factory farms) is extremely damaging to the environment and also inhumane for the animals. The meat, milk, and eggs it produces is not as nutritious as traditional pasture-based methods of livestock farming either.
Diets high in animal products are also associated with many serious health problems. Personally I think the animal products themselves are not the problem as much as the sheer quantity of animal products eaten in the Standard American Diet (double the amount consumed even 50 years ago) and the poor quality of modern animal products due to the harmful practice of grain-finishing and routine feeding of antibiotics and growth hormones.
Speaking of routine feeding of antibiotics, antibiotics fed to healthy livestock have been implicated in the rise of antibiotic resistant diseases such as MRSA. 70% of all antibiotics used in the US are fed to HEALTHY livestock to make them gain weight faster and keep them healthy in overcrowded, stressful conditions.
Eating a healthy, balanced vegetarian diet has no health risks whatsoever. (Eating an unhealthy vegetarian diet obviously does, but not any more than an unhealthy omnivorous diet.) Vegans need to be careful to get enough vitamin B12, which is only available naturally in animal products, but can be found in supplemented grains and other products now.
I'm personally an omnivore, but I average about 80-100% vegetarian meals in any given week, and a fair number of vegan meals as well, so I support both lifestyles fully.
Question: What are some diets for a a lactose intolerant vegetarian? I've been having a lot of stomach pains for about 3 years now and I never noticed a pattern in it. Well I've finally found it. After I eat or drink a dairy product my stomach hurts. But I'm also a vegetarian. What are some foods I can eat and some diets to lose and keep the weight off?
Answer: I'm lactose intolerant too.
You can take loads of soy products like soya milk, taufu, beans stuffs. To keep weight off, you can take grain/wheat/brown bread instead of white bread. Brown rice, rice etc.
Stay off cheese & chocolates (reduce chocolate intakes & sugar). U can take honey & stay off carbonated drinks. These have loads of sugar.
U must exercise as well, diet itself won't keep the weight off.
A normal 30mins. run/walk would do daily or even housework will burn the carbs.
Question: Are there special diets for the elderly with gastrointestinal problems? Please let me know if there is information about special diets or gastrointestinal problems and foods or diets that are available. Thank you.
Answer: Anyone with GI problems might be on a special diet. There are so many organs involved in the digestive system with the stomach being the one most likely to be involved. You also have the gallbladder that controls the amount of bile and the pancreas with controlling the insulin as you digest the food. Then after the food goes through these systems the colon then is the final breakdown with is like the waste system where the final food either gets used or disposed of through the rectum. The GI doctor will let you know whatever special diet if any you need to be on. Good luck and God Bless
Question: What are good diets to steadily build muscle? I'm 6ft 150Lb . I am athletic so I am in shape. I want to start building muscle so i decided to join the gym. My partner has been going for a while is guiding me through the machines and stuff. I don't know a good diets to build muscle. Anybody have an easy diet that doesn't include supplements?
Answer: Eat the foods that bodybuilders eat in the same fashion that they eat them (5-6 balanced and proportioned meals, eat every 3 hours). At least 70% of your muscle gains will be due to the food you eat, so that is the most important aspect to focus on. There's to many foods to list here, so just do a search on the foods bodybuilders eat. They have it down to a science on which foods sets your body in the most anabolic (muscle building) and fat burning mode. Right down to getting the maximum release of good hormones (testosterone and growth hormone) and the minimum of bad hormones.
Edit: Supplements aren't nessicary anyway and only a few of them give you a slight improvement (3%) over good healthy food.
Question: What are the side effects of popular diets? I am doing a group presentation and wanted to know what types of nutrient and other things your neglect yourself when doing diets such as the grapefruit diet and Atkins Diet. I need three diets, though I only need to talk for 4 minutes.
Answer: The two most popular diets are:
- Calorie restricted diet
- Atkins diet
Neither diet is effective over a period of one year or more (Gina Kolata "Rethinking Thin"). The human body is architected to prevent starvation and was not designed to handle the amount of fat, oil, sugars, and additives in the standard American diet today. When you eat too few calories, your body automatically reduces metabolizm and stores fat. Calorie restricted diets go against the hard wiring of the human brain.
Atkins is down right dangerous according to Dr. Neal Barnard and Dr. Dean Ornish (among many experts in human nutrition). The risk of heart disease, obesity, stroke, some cancers, and diabetes can be expected to increase in this diet. The diet is high in cholesterol and fat and will cause cardiovascular disease
The one diet that seems to work universally when a person follows it for life is a pure vegetarian diet. According to the experts listed before and Dr Calwell Esselstyn, Jr. this is an ideal diet. I lost 50 pounds by changing my eating habits in this way. Vegetarians must be careful to get enough vitamin B12, vitamin D, and Omega-3 fatty acids. These can be added with supplements.
Question: What can type of excercise routines and diets you can start to lose weight and get physically fit? My girlfriend feels she needs to lose weight and i wouldn't mind getting in shape myself. Only problem is we don't where to start. What diets can you start and what type of exercise routines we should use?
Also is there a site we can go to for tips on making healthy food for cheap, exercise routines and etc.
Really appreciate it
Answer: If you never exercise, start by just going for a 2-mile walk every day (great chance to chat and bond with her!). As far as diet goes, really keeping a food diary is the best place to start. It gives you a reality check as to when you're eating too much or what you eat without even thinking.
After a week or so, start adding calisthenics such as situps, pushups, etc.
I like this website

Question: What are the best and fastest exercises and diets to reduce belly fat and to shrink the waistline? I am trying to reduce inches off of my belly and sides, and I need to know what are the most effective exercise methods and diets that work. I'm not trying to loose weight, Im just trying to tone my midsection. If anyone knows of anyways that have PERSONALLY worked, then it would be most helpful. Thanks!
Answer: I heard that a diet high in calcium helps in shedding fat. There was a re-run with Dr. Oz on Oprah yesterday that proved this in a study. Good luck!
Question: How is it possible to eat low sodium and low sugar diets? I can get a handle on the low calorie diets, there are plenty of good meals I can make that are low calorie.
But now all the science is saying diets should be low sugar and low sodium. What the heck am I supposed to cook that falls in this range now? I have no idea what to even buy at the grocery store to avoid BOTH sugar and sodium.
Any ideas of some good uncomplicated meals that are not just salad after salad and/or just skinless chicken breast.
what are pilipino foods?
Answer: all you need to do is to eat pilipino foods...pilipino foods are very delicious than any other food
Question: What diets have actually worked for you? I'm a firm believer in not just dieting but creating a healthy lifestyle, something that a person can stick to. With that being said, what diets have worked for you? Have you stuck to them and made them apart of your lifestyle or did you just diet short term?
Answer: I think I've tried to lose weight with all sorts of diets such as the soup diet and shakes, and also eating under a dangerous 600 calories or skipping meals which was all out of desperation. I finally took the time to feed some knowledge into my head on healthy eating and excercising and soon realised that commitment was all that it took to make ones success. I cut out late night snacking and watched my food portions. It depends on every individual and their obstacles.
I lost over 35 lbs from including lots of physical activity into my daily routines and watching what I put in my mouth. Now and again I will eat at fast food places or treat myself to ice cream but it's not as much as I used to before. Today I'm still kicking near a 40 lb loss and plan to practice healthy eating and excercise for the rest of my life... or else it wouldn't be a 'lifestyle change' :)
Question: What would ySometimes people with low iron in their diets develope a condition where blood does not c? Sometimes people with low iron in their diets develope a condition in which their blood does not contain the normal amount of oxygen. Explain why this is so.
Answer: Loosely speaking, iron helps in transporting oxygen in the blood. Without iron, efficiency of blood to carry oxygen is greatly reduced, called anemia.

Question: What are the diets of peasants and nobles during Medieval times? Compare their diets (everyday food), the nobles and the peasants. what did the two different classes eat? Describe table manners and customs regarding eating and dining. Please attach a source!
Answer: what kind of homework is this?
Question: What makes weight watchers different from the rest of these diets? I've always wanted to try weight watchers, but its so expensive is it really worth it ,i just want to know whats makes it different from the rest of all these diets. How does it work?
Answer: Lots of great answers so far. I tried doing WW on my own with my wife(who is a lifetime member) and ended up quitting every time. I finally decided to officially join and am down 16 lbs in 7 weeks. I'm not sure what it is about joining (the weigh in?) but this is the only time it has worked for me.
I think what makes it different is that you don't have to eat a special diet to do it. You can eat all of your usual 'comfort' foods, you just need to get the portions under control which it teaches you how to do. The article below explains how to do it without joining if you so choose...
