Dmae Supplement
Question: I am a 23 year old male, what vitamins should i take? i am currently taking a multivitamin, omega 3, b complex, an extra c vitamin, and a dmae supplement. Is that a good combination of vitamins? i heard dmae, improves memory and concentration, is that true? i need to be able to concentrate better or should i stop taking that? i am trying to experiment with different vitamins, but am i missing anything? i am also taking Paxil for aniexty, depression and ocd. i just recently turned to getting healthier and going to the gym. any suggestions??
Answer: Is your DMAE supplement fish oil? You are correct, good quality DMAE has been reported to enrich people’s mood, counteract depression, and help to improve brain functions like memory and concentration. The problem is a lot of people get DMAE from fish oil, which is derived from ocean fish that can contain mecury. Non pharmecutical grade fish oils can contain this and would actually have the opposite effect on you. So be safe if you are taking this and get the good stuff.
There are many supplements out there that do exactly what youre looking for and combine a couple of the supplements youre taking into one. Ive had success with www.mastermindbrainfuel.com and would recommend it. I would show the label to your doctor first just to make sure nothing reacts with the paxil.
Most importantly you have to motivate yourself, if you keep telling yourself you cant focus you never will. Be positive, its hard to make progress if you keep beating your self down with negative thoughts. Try taking a class you wouldnt normally take, like a clay class at a local art center. Do puzzles like cross word and suduko, this will stimulate your brain and help you focus on tasks.
Hope this helps!
Question: choline supplement in toronto? hi there i live in toronto, scarborough area does anyone know where i can find the supplement choline and DMAE around my area or in toronto?
Answer: It's a pretty common nutrient that you'd find in most any B Complex, so you should be able to find it in a local health food store in a combination. I don't believe I've seen straight Choline on it's own as it's normally combined with Inositol and/or other nutrients (B Vitamins or Soy derivatives).
If you can't find any of those complexes in your local health food store, vitamin store, or drug store, you'll probably have to look for legit companies that can ship products to you. I know there are a few high quality companies that do that in the U.S., but I'm not sure how many are based in Canada. Good luck and I hope I helped!
Question: what supplements will help me think more clear? i have tried focus factor and also tried some choline pills with ginkgo and DMAE in them. i need some supplements to help me in my math class. i used to be able to think so clear and would be able to understand everything just by taking a glance at it and teaching myself. now i feel like i dont understand it very well. i cant think as clear and quick as i used to. i used to be a very quick thinker and now im a very slow thinker. what supplements would provide my brain nutrients to help me think? or any other suggestions?or any natural supplements to help with depression? i am depressed and ive read that depression causes you to think slow.
Answer: There are a lot of Herbal Supplements you can take, this one is one that I drink. You can check the label on all the products before you purchase anything:
My favorite is MochaTonix

Question: Can DMAE show up in blood test as Alcohol (Ethanol).? I recently took a blood test and alcohol (Ethanol) showed up in a high dosage but I rarely drink and When I do in small amounts. I was a functional alcoholic at a time and know my limits know but the day I took my blood test I had two drinks and had a high alcohol level. I was wondering if any of my supplements increased the reading some how.
Answer: no it can't it show up as ethanol
Question: Which of Dr. Perricone's "Superstar Supplements" are most effective? I already take a few supplements, including Omega-3, but I'm not about to add a dozen more to the list. So I'm trying to decide which ones are most important. I'm interested in either personal experience, or any medical research on these supplements.
#1: OMEGA-3 FISH OIL
#2: ALPHA LIPOIC ACID (ALA)
#3: ASTAXANTHIN
#4: CARNITINE
#5: ACETYL-L-CARNITINE
#6: CONJUGATED LINOLEIC ACID (CLA)
#7: COENZYME Q10 (COQ10)
#8: CHROMIUM
#9: GAMMA LINOLENIC ACID (GLA)
#10: GLUTAMINE
#11: MAITAKE MAGIC
#12: DIMETHYLAMINOETHANOL (DMAE)
Answer: I take #1, #2, #7 and #8. I've taken #4 and #5 in the past... as well as #9.
I wouldn't go without #1 and #2, take them faithfully.
Question: Is this a toxic dosage of Vitamin A? So I've designed a supplement program for clear skin that mimics and improves on the Perricone MD Skin Clear program, and one of the supplements Im taking, which is Source Naturals Skin Eternal Plus, has 12,500 IU of vitamin E where 5,000 IU is palmitate and 7,500 IU is beta-carotene. Im scared that this is a bad amount but I really dont want to stop taking this supplement. Is this a toxic amount?
I've made sure the proportions of all the other supplements were safe. Vitamin A is all Im unsure about.
If it helps heres:
My Supplement Program
It includes Carlson Super Omega-3 Fish Oils, Source Naturals Evening Primrose Oil, Twinlab Stress B-Complex Caps, Source Naturals Skin Eternal Plus(contains DMAE, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Vitamin E), as well as Nature's Way Calcium-Magnesium-Vitamin D capsules.
oops...i said vitamin e. its a. you understood anyways.
Answer: Your intake of vitamin A is well below the toxic dose that is regarded as being 25,000 IU of vitamin A per day.
Taking more than 10,000 IU per day could be regarded as overdoing it.
A pregnant woman could end up with a baby with birth defects if she takes more than about 8,000 IU of vitamin A per day so to be on the safe side it would be better if she took well below 5,000 IU per day. Taking below 2,500 IU per day would be even better.

Answer: I would stick with three a day.
That is plenty of A, and you can get too much.
It looks like a really good vitamin, and since you are male, its good that you have one that does NOT have iron (there is some evidence that iron build up can cause health problems. Women prior to menopause do not have to worry, but men do).
It also has all eleven B vitamins, which many do not.
I would just stick with what you are doing now.
As to the importance of taking vitamins, for me it is the difference between functioning and not. If I stop taking my vitamins for more than two weeks, I inevitably get sick.
Unfortunately, there is no lemon law where bodies are concerned. :o)

Answer: Vitamins are essential to living... if you didn't have enough intake of Vitamins and minerals, you would be severely deficient over time and that leads to not only health problems, but people have died from deficiencies (it's actually quite common in 3rd world countries).
That being said, if the bottle says to take 6 a day, it's generally best to stick with the recommendation on the bottle. Good luck and I hope I helped!

Question: Is it common for the Chinese herb, Fo-Ti root extract, to affect your dreams? I'm recently been taking Fo-Ti, in powder form...about 1 tsp daily.... along with some other brain and concentration supplements such as huperzine, DMAE, Piracetam and Acetyl-carnitine and a couple others. I take all the supplements at once.
I've noticed that I've had colorful and more creative dreams since I started taking a larger amount of the Fo-Ti. Anyone else have this experience?
To the 2nd answerer...that's what I saw too when I looked it up...it's good for insomnia. The person who recommended it to me (as well as all these supplements) was experimenting with a high dose a couple weeks ago and he started having such amazing dreams. I'm not taking as much as he is, but I think this may be an effect of taking a higher than average dose. It hasn't been happening as much since the first week.
But it could be the huperzine since my friend also gets a kind of "high" from that.
I started taking a higher dose of that too but never noticed any effect when I was taking it a few years ago.
Answer: i dont think its fo-ti. Fo-ti is used to tread insomnia accompanied by nightmares..so i would assume this herb hinders your ability to dream. http://www.bouncingbearbotanicals.com/foti-root-p-474.html
it may be the huperzine. others have had their dreams affected by it.
the below is from a poster at http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt44696.html
"Does not seem to have classical stimulant action to me. It
improved my sleep greatly to. Very Happy I took a second 200 mcg
dose several hours later . It made me have strange vivid
dreams which is usually something I experience when
starting or stopping a drug that effects mental processing."
it seems that people use huperzine for aid in lucid dreaming
DMAE also aids in lucid dreaming
"Use of DMAE (2-dimethylaminoethanol) in the induction of lucid dreams.

A food supplement, namely DMAE, that facilitates the induction of lucid dreams is discussed. Included is a brief consideration of the therapeutic potential of such dreams.

i havent looked up the last 2 but it seems like the huperzine and DMAE are enough to make you lucid. i would bet those 2 are whats doin it

Answer: People spend $20 billion per year on vitamins and supplements. According to Everyday Health, here's an article that will tell you why . . . those PRODUCTS by any other name do NOT WORK. It is false advertisements.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesn’t have to approve supplements — no agency in the United States does. So it’s up to consumers to bring health concerns to light. “It’s important to understand the difference between over-the-counter medications and dietary supplements,” say Pieter Cohen, MD, an internist at Cambridge Health Alliance and instructor at Harvard Medical School in Cambridge, Mass. The FDA gets involved only after the fact, if the supplement later appears to be causing harm. By that time, the supplement may already have harmed many consumers who used it. “The burden of proof is on the FDA to determine [a supplement] is dangerous and remove it from the market,” Cohen says. Consumer complaints are the primary trigger for investigations. One recent investigation of the dietary weight-loss supplement ephedra resulted in it being banned for sale in the United States.

Question: herbal adderall.... any exist? Looking for use for recreational purposes for energy, focus, and fatloss? Adderllin.com
This product contains..
Vitamin B3
Is a B vitamin with Nootropic effects. It is also has been noted for its use in people with Alzheimer’s disease.
Vitamin B12
Is involved in the metabolism of every cell of the body, especially affecting the DNA synthesis and regulation but also fatty acid synthesis and energy production. Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause severe and irreversible damage, especially to the brain and nervous system. Vitamin B-12 gives a great natural energy boost.
Guarana
Guarana is an herb that is rich in caffeine. Research has also shown that guarana may affect how quickly the body perceives itself to be full as well.
Bitter Orange
Bitter orange is used as a stimulant and appetite suppressant which aids in weight loss. It contains several alkaloids such as synephrine that stimulate the body’s beta-3 receptors. Activating these receptors boosts your metabolic rate and energy levels to help increase fat burning and ultimately body fat loss. It also promotes the release of epinephrine and nor-epinephrine which boost mental energy and focus while indirectly helping body fat loss.
Yohimbe Bark Extract
It is of the tryptamine chemical class with stimulant and aphrodisiac effects. It is also known for it’s thermogenic effect. Like adderall® it is classified as pycho-stimulant that has Nootropic behavior.
Choline Dihydrogen Citrate
It is a naturally-occuring ammonium salt that is found in the lipids that make up cell membranes -in the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Choline is the chemical precursor or “building block” needed to produce the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, and research suggests that memory, intelligence, and mood are mediated at least in part by acetylcholine metabolism in the brain.
Acetyl-L-Carnitine
ALCAR has neuroprotective benefits in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. ALCAR plays many important roles in the body, but the most important one from a fat burning perspective is ALCAR’s role in escorting fatty acids to the cell’s mitochondria where they can be burned as fuel aiding in body fat loss.
Bacopa Extract
It has been used in India for several thousand years and is considered a “brain tonic” which enhances memory development, learning, and concentration thus fighting attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The herb shows significant psychotropic action as evidenced by excessive sleep and conformation changes in the brain as well as blood. It is also a potent antioxidant.
Acetyl-L-Tyrosine
Tyrosine is converted in the body to key biologic compounds. These compounds include epinephrine, dopamine, L-dopa, Co-Q10, and thyroid hormones.
Caffeine
Caffeine has nootropic effects, inducing positive changes in memory and learning. Both caffeine and naturally occurring caffeine found in guarana called guaranine are found in Adderllin.
Dimethylaminoethanol
DMAE is related to choline and is a biochemical precursor to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Studies have shown an increase in vigilance and alertness, with a positive influence on mood.
White Willow Bark Extract
White willow bark extract is added because a synergy occurs whenever ingredients are combined and the specific combination of those ingredients provides a greater benefit than the individual benefits that could be realized if each of those ingredients were taken independent of each other. Also known as a natural pain reliever.
Piperine
Piperine is an extract found from black pepper and is known for it’s increased uptake of nutrients and supplements.
Vinpocetine
Is an extract found in the periwinkle plant. Vinpocetine is reported to have a cerebral blood-flow enhancing and neuroprotective effects. It is also used as a drug in eastern european countries for the treatment of cerebrovascular disorders and age related memory impairment.
Huperzine
Is naturally occurring and extracted from the Firmoss plant. Huperzine has been shown to enhance memory and learning performance in clinical trials performed on China
I hope this helped people who want to take an herbal alternative for recreational use.
Answer: Nice website - I was surprised at its functionality.
I was also pleased to see the ingredients listed there as well - it sounds like a dynamite combination.
I would have been happier to see a percentage or the mg of the separate ingredients for quality control.
In time the FAQs may need to be expanded to include answers about norepinephrine and serotonin and MAO inhibition
This is not a nutritional supplement for conditions such as Parkinson's disease although some constituents most certainly are such as Piperine. Because some ingredients function as AChE inhibitors, it would be contraindicated but that is a reason for using for AD.
