Eggs
Question: Eggs.????? Why do Eggs break so easy when in water?
Answer: Could be you are adding them to the water straight from the fridge - they should be at room temperature. Also, add some salt to the water when cooking the eggs, this will help the shells stay intact.
Question: How do you mark eggs that a hen is sitting on? I have two banty hens sitting on a pile of eggs together side by side, but there are too many eggs under them to keep warm at once. Every day as more eggs are laid by other hens they scoop those in the pile and sit on those as well. I thought i would mark 6 eggs with stickers and call it good. That way every morning I can go get the fresh eggs and know which ones are fresh. Will the hens take offence to the stickers on the eggs? Are there any better ways to mark them?
Answer: i had the same problem a while back. the ideal situation would be to prevent the other hens from laying eggs into the nests. however, if you can't do that, u could resort to using a pencil or crayon. just make a clear mark on each egg. the hens will not be bothered by the marks. make sure to check the nests when the hens leave to feed, taking out the freshly laid eggs.
Question: What prevents chicken eggs from developing when buying them from the supermarket? Are chicken eggs fertilized when you buy them?
Can chickens only lay eggs if a roster is able to fertilize the egg?
Does refrigerating the egg prevent it from developing?
If I took an egg from the supermarket and kept it warm (incubate it), will it hatch to a chicken?
Answer: No. Most eggs are not fertilized. And obviously hens can lay without this.
Yes, refrigerating an eggs would prevent it.
It could only possibly work if the egg was fertilized - and you can buy those in specialty stores - but as the eggs are often pasturized it's not likely anything could survive to grow.
Question: How many eggs should a inactive teenager on diet eat a day/week at the max? I love eating eggs...I can eat like a dozen eggs a day eaily. The best part, the egg yolk!
However, I am quite inactive, though I am trying to start being active. I am also seriously overweight and my BMI is around 28 now. Therefore, I am trying to increase my activity and diet at the same time.
How many eggs should I limit myself to?
Answer: Eggs is a good source of protein. Protein is needed by the body for energy.
However, you say that you are inactive, so having at least 2 eggs per week is enough.
If you are on a diet, it's okay for you to eat eggs because what you should avoid is too much carbohydrates.
But if you really love eating eggs, try working up those muscles. Eggs is used as a diet of body builders you know.
Question: How many eggs can a female cockatiel store in her body at a time? I know that she can lay a clutch of 2-8 eggs and can lay an egg every 48 hours. I know that cockatiels are smaller birds, so how many eggs can she carry at a time? Is it just one and then she makes another every 48 hours? Then how does that work? Does the sperm from the male just stay in there and fertilize more eggs?
Answer: Females form one egg at a time, they have no sort of egg storage system. It takes a female between 20-24 hours to form an egg. Sperm can live inside of a female for a brief window of time. It will fertilize the egg cell, and one by one they will form actual eggs.
Question: How many medium eggs are 5 large ones? I've my boyfriend's parents coming over in a bit for dinner and I'm not sure if there's a big difference between medium eggs and large eggs.
5 large eggs, says the recipe. Can I use 5 medium or should I add one more medium egg?
I'm cooking a flourless chocolate cake. It's supposed to be really easy so I'm hoping I can't eff this up.
Why is it that I can spot a tiny flaw in a contract and save my client several million, but I can't cook?
Answer: It really wouldn't matter at all because in most recipes eggs are used to keep things held together otherwise it may crumble and fall a part into pieces very easily, but this would depend on what your cooking.
But i'd go for 6 medium eggs. They said large eggs for a reason :)
Question: What is the difference between white eggs and brown eggs? Whilst sitting around this morning , making eggs for the afterparty remnants of the bonfire I attended, a friend questioned me as to the difference between brown eggs and white eggs. I told her other than the obvious color change, I belived it to be that possibly a different breed of chicken...Could someone please enlighten me: What is the difference between brown eggs and white eggs?
Answer: color
Question: What happens to eggs in a store that hit their expiration date? I have always wondered what is done with eggs, or where do they go, when they hit the expiration date on the egg carton. I was once told that non-organically produced eggs are tossed out, but other eggs are returned, re-cleaned, examined, then put back out for resale with a shorter expiration date. Is this urban legend, or is this really done?
Answer: Repackaging eggs or any product for that matter is highly illegal and very unhealthy. It has been done.
Most grocery store will donate the non-saleable goods to shelters that will use them immediately or they are tossed.
Question: How long will eggs last in the refrigerator? How long after the sell-by date will eggs stay good in a refrigertor and is there any way to tell if they're bad other than breaking them open and smelling them?
I want to make some chicken salad and I need a hard-boiled egg, but I usually only eat egg-beaters and the package on this pack of eggs had a sell-by date of 7-05-2006. The fridge is really chilly on the inside, so do you think that it'll still be good?
*It is marked with a packed on date and a sell by date. It doesn't have a use by date.
Thanks everyone! I dropped it in a deep mixing bowl filled with water and it sank. It wasn't like a rock at the bottom, one end bobbed a little, but it stayed on the bottom. Time for some chicken salad and sour cream muffins, yay!
Answer: Here is how to tell if they are still fresh after the expiration date:
Fill a deep bowl or pan with enough cold tap water to cover an egg.
Place the egg in the water.
If the egg lies on its side on the bottom, the air cell within is small and it's very fresh.
If the egg stands up and bobs on the bottom, the air cell is larger and it isn't quite as fresh.
If the egg floats on the surface, it it should be discarded.
A very fresh egg out of the shell will have an overall thick white which doesn't spread much and the yolk will stand up.
Question: How long do eggs last in the fridge? My mom gets me brown fresh eggs from a person she works with, and i tell ya they make the eggs at the grocery store look like Robin eggs, cause these are hudge, but how long do they last,i'm assuming longer than supermarket eggs cause they're brand new.
Answer: Fresh eggs bought directly from the producer are normally only a few days old. Ones from the store can be 3 weeks old by the time we buy them. As a result, the fresh eggs will last longer once we get them home. Store eggs should be good in the fridge for 2 or 3 weeks, provided they haven't been subjected to extreme temperature changes. Fresh eggs a good couple weeks longer.
Question: How are the eggs we eat different from the eggs that produce a chick? Are the eggs we eat chicken fetuses? Or are they not fertilized? How does a rooster fertilize an egg? Are all eggs we eat capable of becoming a chick?
Answer: The chicken eggs we eat are unfertilised and not foetuses. (Although I have heard urban myths where someone has cracked an egg and found a baby chick inside). In natural circumstances (esp. in the wild), unfertilised eggs are rarely laid. A rooster will fertilise a hen's egg through mating and the egg is laid and incubated until it hatches into a chick. Farm hens produce an enormous number of eggs unfertilised for human consumption, as a result of human farming technology.
Question: How much eggs can a cholesterol patient eat in a week? I am cholesterol patient , I take medicine ( Lipiget)to control the level. But I like eating eggs very much, some people says that egg with yolk is not harmful. I would like to know, how much does an egg harmful to increase the level. I am Diabetic also. Please anser me at my e-mail add.
Answer: I had a heart attack 7 years ago and was told by my rehab nurse not to eat more than 3 eggs a week
Question: How many eggs are needed to make scrambled eggs for 30 people? I've got to make scrambled eggs for breakfast at work, and we have about 30 people. About how many dozen eggs should I use?
Answer: It depends on if you are going to add extra ingredients like ham, cheese, and maybe green peppers. If it's just eggs, then go for 5 or 6 dozen, so there will be plenty. If you are adding things, then 3 or 4 dozen will be enough.
Question: How long do ducks leave their eggs alone for? How long do mallard ducks leave their eggs alone for? I have a mother mallard duck hatching seven eggs. The eggs haven't hatched yet but the Terminex guy/bug man came and scared her! My sister through something at the door and the duck ran away! It's been 2 and a half hours, and she already went hunting today so I don't know what happened! Her eggs are just sitting there! How long should I wait before calling the bird people? Or moving the eggs? Help! Quick!
Answer: Just leave the nest alone and keep everyone out of sight - the mother duck should return when she no longer feels threatened. If she can still see people around the nest area, she will not return.
The eggs can be left alone for quite some time - if the mother duck has not laid all of her eggs yet, incubation hasn't even started. It would be safe for her to be off the nest for several days in that case.
If you have seen her actively incubating the eggs and she has not returned in 24 hours, you need to contact the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Division of Migratory Bird Management (I am assuming that this is a wild mallard). They will either take the eggs or put you in touch with someone who is licensed to have the eggs, so you can surrender the eggs to them. Their local contact information can be found here: http://www.fws.gov/migratorybirds/contacts.htm
Do not attempt to incubate these eggs yourself - In the US, all native migratory birds are protected under federal law (Migratory Bird Treaty Act). It is illegal for anyone to possess a protected bird, its nest, its eggs or even its feathers unless they have the required federal and state licenses. It is also illegal to disturb an active nest. Penalties for violating this law include fines of up to $500 and/or up to 6 months in jail for each offense.
Question: Why do people eat eggs with steak and eggs, but not chicken and eggs? My BFF and some of our friends comtenplated this the other day. Why do people eat eggs with steak, bacon, sausage, chops, but you never see people eating eggs with chicken?
Answer: Too much bird for me, personally. But then again I'm not too much of a fan of steak and eggs; steak to me is just a dinner food (though a food I /adore/), and chops (I'm guessing you mean porkchops) I've never had with eggs.
Then again, look at McDonalds who is now trying to market a chicken sandwich for breakfast. Next another restaurant will do it but with an egg or something on top, or a slice of ham. That'd be way too much meat.
Just a weird combination to me. I do like chicken and boiled egg whites (I really despise the yellows. The consistency is gross to me for some reason) on a salad, but that isn't all that's there, you know? There's always a bunch of greens, and cheese. I don't think I could sit down with a plate of chicken and eggs. Then again, I've seen scallops with an egg on top on Hell's Kitchen and that looks sort of gross. Eggs, unless boiled, to me should remain a breakfast food. Personal taste.
Question: How can I prevent egg shells from getting stuck in my throat when I eat eggs for breakfast? I like to get my protein, and I try to swallow raw whole eggs chased by a glass of milk for breakfast. The eggs sort of get stuck in my throat which must break the shell. I like this habit too much to get rid of it, and since the eggs are raw, I don't actually have to cook.
Answer: Well, reading descriptions of yourself in your past questions, you seem like a rather slight man even with all this protein you try to indulge upon yourself. Perhaps you should have one of your cookies for breakfast instead. I must admit, the egg swallowing idea is pretty good. Maybe you should try buying the especially large eggs at the store (emu and ostrich might work too). These may stretch your throat so the smaller eggs will go down easier (otherwise you'll choke, but oh well).
I strongly disagree with vinegar eggs, due to the fact your eggs would taste strange, like pickles. Blahh.
