Excess Body Weight
Question: how many excess kilocalories are represented by one pound of excess body weight ? ? one gram of fat is stored for each 9.3k cal of food energy intake in excess of energy output
- assuming that walking requires a total food energy of .16 calorie per foot, how far would a 150lb patient have to walk to lose 1 lb of body weight
Answer: One pound is about 454 grams. So it represents 454 * 9.3 kcal = 4218 kcal
Using your values,
That requires a walk of 4218000/0.16 feet = 26,365,000 feet or just under 5000 miles
Question: I have developed a portable hot water bottle (disguised as excess body weight) Which company will produce it? For women there is also a version that looks like an early pregnancy. I really feel that as the temperatures drop we need to do all we can to conserve heat energy and I feel that my invention will go a long way to addressing this problem. Let me know what you think. It could be the next big thing.
Answer: Try cadburys or some sort of lard manufacturer - can't see it catching on tho :o)
Question: How would someone get rid of excess body fat after weight loss? after losing alot of weight my best friend needs to firm up. Especially her stomach. She has lost alot of weight and would look amazing if she did not have that "hanging" stomach. Is it possible to get rid of it all together or should she do lypo?
Answer: yes it's definitely possible. i went through the same thing. all she has to do is be dedicated. working out and a healthy diet. Crunches, running, leg lifts should help her with her stomach and legs. She should also do a few reps of lifting with 5 pound weights. Don't exceed 5 pounds though because the 5 pounds should give her enough muscle for her arm to be firm but not too muscley.
Question: how does the body control excess water weight and whats the best way to control the gain? water weight gain is a problem that seems to have major heath problems in older people present company inculded would like to know best way to lose it safely i'm a 54 year old male
Answer: Most water gain/retention is caused by nutrient imbalances and toxins in your system. When you have toxins in your body, the body retains water to dilute the concentration. You should examine your diet. How much processed food are you consuming? Most processed foods have a negative nutrient effect on the body. They actually require more to be processed than what the contain. This leaves you with a net negative. Drink extra water, lots of fresh veggies, a piece of fruit daily, lean proteins and healthy fats. This will help flush out the toxins. We have had clients lose 70lbs in 3 months(mostly retained fluids) just by changing their diet and some basic supplementation. A multi-mineral, B-50's, a multi-vitamin are good starting points. Make sure you use a good quality, natural (non-synthetic) supplement. Adding electrolytes to your water would also be quite beneficial.
Question: how do i lose excess body weight? My daughter will be 7 months old on 13th jan. During my pregnancy I put on 25kgs weight extra. I lost 10kgs after my delivery but the 15kgs are really tough to lose. I use to be in good shape before pregnancy. I hate to say this but had gone into depression due to all this until last month. I must thank my husband for being there for me always and he encouraged me to start going to the gym. Though I am not regular as sometimes my little princess wants me to be with her all the time. I want your advise on how to lose weight sincerely and in the right way. What diet should I follow and any other best way to lose those extra 15kgs. (my baby is on the formula milk as well as my breast milk and also on other semisolid food.)
Answer: If you're breastfeeding, you should not be doing any kind of calorie restriction. Not only does it make the breastmilk of poor quality, it also signals your body that there is a famine, and then your body will hold on to every single calorie you consume, and store it as fat. This is the miracle of the metabolism--you can't explain to your body that, this 1000 calories is for me, that 500 calories is for the baby. You need more calories for breastfeeding than you did when you were pregnant. If you up your caloric intake, on healthy foods, of course, you may find that the weight starts coming off again, once your body's survival system relaxes. You also need to be drinking A LOT of water, like twice as much as usual.
This book has great information that you can use for little kids, teens, adults, seniors, and for pregnant or nursing women: "Lean & Free 2000 Plus" by Dana Thornock. You can get it on amazon.com, used, for under $5. She also has a cook book, I think it's called "Dana's Cookbook" that has a "special needs" section with a couple paragraphs about breastfeeding. Really, these books are great and have common sense information that could help you a great deal!
Good luck!
Edit: as an example, the author states in her book that, while breastfeeding, she would consume 3500 - 4000 calories a day. Of course, this was all very healthy food, not pie and cake. She said that the weight just dropped off, and she got too thin for a while. (I've never been "too thin," ha! But I'm expecting my third child, and I'm going to follow her guidelines while breastfeeding this time, and who knows? It could even happen to me!)
Question: How efficient is Tae Kyon Do at losing excess weight and toning the body up? I’m looking at joining a local club soon for the reason of getting fitter, learning some self-defense and also for something more exciting in my life than work. Is it suitable for any age/gender to join too? (I'm 20/F)
ahh shoot... i just looked at my spelling >.<
"Tae Kwon Do"
Answer: Tae Kwon Do is suitable for any age/gender, and it's great for toning up: lots of core work, cardio and upper body...just try throwing punches for 60 seconds straight, let alone free sparring for a couple of 3 minute rounds!
But the best part is that it builds up gradually; the longer you stay in, the more challenging it gets, but you have the opportunity to build up your strength, endurance and flexibility as you go.
And just to clarify - it will help drop pounds and tone up; you don't need to worry about developing some sort of male body builder physique.
Oh, and it's way fun. You get to punch, kick stuff and yell loudly...they don't let you do that in aerobics or spin classes, usually.
Question: Lose a little excess body fat/Weight? Im 17 years old. Male about 165lbs and im 5'11". I would love to be able to lose a little weight, so im not shy about taking my shirt off. I need to flatten my chest and stomach mainly. Thanks any advice helps.
Answer: jogging is an excellent exercise because it let you lose weight
evenly throughout your whole body. If you want to lose weight in
specific areas, you should target them with exercises. If they are
your problem areas, they will be very difficult to tone. You will have
to work double on them. The best approach is this:
1. Lower/control your daily calorie intake (control for normal
weight, lower for overweight).
2. Run/jog to lower your overall body fat percentage.
3. Target your problem areas with exercises.
an excellent exercise, you can do it in front of your TV: sit on a
stool, and put your toes under something (piece of heavy furniture,
for example). In your hands hold a little dumbbell. Please, make sure
that it is not very heavy, start with one kilo, for example, or you
will damage your back and spine! Slowly move the upper part of your
body back, until it's parallel with the ground. Stop for a second and
move it back to the sitting position. Repeat ten times. Every week add
to the number of repetitions. You will see the results in a week,
guaranteed! You will see or feel under the fat - if you have any - six
pack and muscles. Dumbbells do wonders. Much better than these
crunches - I came up to three hundreds and there was no results AT
ALL. With the dumbbells you will see it in a week.
he pectoralis muscle can be trained for athletic or bodybuilding
purposes. The following compound exercises are often used to
increase the strength and mass of the muscle:
Bench press, with various bench angles (flat, incline, and decline)
Press up
Dips
Isolation exercises include:
Flyes or Flies
A fly (or flye) is a strength training exercise in which the hand and
arm move through an arc while the elbow is kept at a constant angle.
Flies are used to work the muscles of the upper body.
Cable Crossovers
it's a machine, a steel frame with weight stacks.
"Pec Deck" machines
Question: what home remedy takes off the excess water weight in your body? I've heard of drinking water with lemon juice, cranberry juice and some sort of teabag? Can anyone clarify or give any other suggestions? For how long does this need to be repeated and how many pounds does it drop?
Answer: 1.Set goals. You'll be better able to make a realistic weight loss plan if you know how much weight you want to lose.
2.Identify your weaknesses. Are you a bread fiend? Do you have dessert after every meal and every snack? Is McDonald's your second home? Find the weakness and throttle it. It does not own you, you are stronger and cooler than to allow some silly little craving to knock you off your path.
3.Throw away anything you know is tempting. Those cinnamon buns with 500 calories each? Gone. The ramen noodles in your cabinet? Gone. The problem is that this is not always feasible. Often times we are not the only ones in our homes and therefore the call of the food must be withstood. In this case, out of sight truly is out of mind. Put unhealthy, unfilling foods in a drawer or in a cabinet that you rarely use. Put them all together to make a particularly unappetizing sight. Don't place them all in a decorative basket out on the counter. Place them in a drawer. A drawer heaping with pastries rarely looks like anything but a drawer of fat.
4.Eat less, but eat more often. If possible, eat 4-5 meals a day. This helps your metabolism and blood sugar to stay level as well. This does require a change in your schedule. Eat less within 6 hours of your bed time. You're less likely to burn the calories closer to your bed time. It's fine to eat a large breakfast and lunch because your body will be working on burning those calories for the whole day. Large dinners are likely to go unburned and converted into fat.
5.Do not skip breakfast. If you don't have time to prepare breakfast, buy healthy breakfast bars or those smoothies on the go. It is important to eat breakfast to jump start your metabolism and give you energy for the day. Otherwise you will probably end up falling back on unhealthy foods during the day. Yogurt is also known to boost your metabolism.
6.Eat healthy snacks when you feel hungry between meal times. Healthy snacks would be things high in fiber, fruits and vegetables. Avoid high sugar and high calorie snacks. This will help you get nutrients as well as help lower your appetite so you won't overeat during meals.
7.Increase your fiber intake. Fiber acts as negative calories. It's also filling and healthy for your digestive system. Make it a part of every meal.
8.Eat slowly and chew more. Take time to enjoy your meals. This will help you to finish at the same time as others, and you'll not be tempted by a second helping. Also, chewing more will ensure you get the most out of all the food and it will be digested faster. The more you chew, the more your appetite will be satiated.
9.Drink more water every day. Stay hydrated. While you don't need 8 cups of water a day to stay hydrated, it'll make sure you're hydrated as well as cut down on your hunger levels and force you to get a little bit more exercise (trips to the sink, water cooler, water fountain, and bathroom). If you're a heavy soda drinker, permit yourself to only one diet soda per day, maximum. Just one extra soda each day can add 15 pounds. Recently, fizzy drinks, even diet ones, have been said to slow down metabolism.
10.Increase physical activity. There are two ways to reduce net caloric intake: 1) reduce the number of calories in your diet and 2) Increase the number of calories that you burn in your daily activities. Both approaches are usually necessary and healthful and both are effective in losing weight. You can pick and choose which exercise you want to do, depending on your fitness level and drive. For example: walking, jogging, using the stair stepper, using cross training machines, swimming, tennis, and basketball. Weight training (and resistance training) can help reshape your body. The more muscle you have the higher your metabolism will be.
11.Find active friends. Find people that will drag you out to do more active things. It doesn't have to be much, but any exercise even walking around the mall is better than none.
12.Don't get discouraged. After one or two weeks of initial weight loss, it is quite common for your metabolism to slow down as it adjusts to the new calorie count. Stay on course and you'll see results. In some cases, the scale will tell you your weight is barely changing, but you may be gaining muscle weight while losing fat weight. Also make sure to weigh yourself first thing in the morning to try to avoid the fluctuations in weight due to water.
13.Take all advice with a grain of salt. Everyone is going to have some tidbit of information for you. What worked for them might not work for you. Take it all in stride and work with what is getting results for you. Trying to do everything everyone says will only cause overload.
14.Eat more protein. If you choose to go this route, do not cut out all carbs. If you do so, as soon as you start eating carbs again you will regain your weight back. Instead of eating stand alone pasta, throw some meatballs or chicken in. Eat some beans, they are high in protein and very healthy for you. Increase the ammount of protein, but not by too much. The more protein you take in, the more water you should drink as well.
15.Eat less calories. The average woman should eat around 2,000 calories a day and the average male 2,500. There's many ways to reduce the calories you intake. Try not to eat frozen dinners, pizza, or from fast food joints. There's also certain drinks, such as Green Tea that are calorie reducers. Lettuce is another calorie reducer, but be careful because dressing tends to have the calories. Low fat/light vinnegette, balsomic vineger, red wine and vineger are pretty healthy dressings, but do not load it on
Question: "Asthma And Running For Fitness." I need to shed much excess body weight. However I am asthmatic. See Below>>"? I take inhalers.. I have been on several. My asthma is pretty bad and when it acts up its worse. I had a bad car accident.. tore my ACL three years ago. My knee healed on its own.. acts up in cold .. and damp weather sometimes. Its healed but not as stable some days. I need some aerobics.. but.. because of my Asthma and knee that I don't want further injury or wear out.. what can I do?
Answer: Well its your lucky day because i also have moderate to bad asthma and i was recently injured with a stress fracture. ive been a runner for most of my life and i got extreeeemely out of shape in those 2months i was on crutches. my asthma got worse, and i found i did gain 5 to 10 unwanted pounds. instead of running, i would suggest pool running and biking. pool running is pretty strenuous but a flotation belt helps to prevent any unwanted accidents if you happen to have an asthma attack. Biking is also very good cardio that pretty much anyone can be good at with a little practice. With a little committment and time you can be at a healthy weight in no time. when you do achieve this new weight, you also might want to try some ab workouts or going to the gym for some weight training. this will hopefully strengthen your knee. and i can't stress this enough: if you have ANY pain at all during your workouts LET SOMEONE KNOW. or it will get much, much worse
Question: Body Shapes + Excess Weight? If someone is obese (at least 50 pounds overweight) can they tell what they would look like once they lose the weight? Would you still have the same type of body shape even at a healthy weight?

Question: i workout 5x a week, take in one gram of protein per lb of body weight, and consume 700 excess calories a day? by the end of a month how much weight gain will be muscle and much is fat?
Answer: The best way to determine this is to ignore weight and focus on inches. Measure your waist now and measure it again at the end of the month. That's how you'll know how much fat you lost.
Question: How hard would it be for a teenage girl to lose excess skin after losing 60 pounds (1/3 of her body weight)? This would be without surgery though.
Answer: Because your skin has such youthful elasticity it will probably tighten up on its own. It won't be overnight or over a month but it begins to tighten with every pound that you lose. It may take from 6 months to a year but stick to your goal and it will happen. Using a good moisturizer with cocoa butter and Vitamin E really helps. Walking and riding a bicycle will help you to lose the weight faster and also firm up your body. You don't have to do a lot of fast walking/running to get it done; just walk and you'll burn the calories. If you set your goals too high you won't achieve them and might start back on your old habits that caused you to gain weight. Set realistic goals for yourself. Congratulations on the beautiful NEW you! You rock!
Question: Will I have excess body tissue after I lose weight? I'm not obese. I'm 6 foot, 208 pounds. I was 225 pounds when i started. Ideal weight is 175-180 so I still am a little chubby. I've seen some pretty extreme cases of excess skin/body tissue after excessive weight loss. I know I won't be like that but my question is since I was a little overweight will I still have extra/more tissue/skin than someone who was never overweight? Even if it's not noticable? I'm 20 years old so I'm assuming the extra skin/tissue will go away over time but I'm not a doctor so I don't know for sure. Any information is helpful.
Thanks
Answer: Having extra skin will depend in part on how much you lose, how fast you lose it, and your age.
Extreme weight loss almost always results in extra skin (esp if the person was very heavy for a long time).
Very fast weight loss of a significant amount, can result in extra skin (that happened to me...I lost 90 lbs too fast and now I've got some flab)
If you are older (which isn't your issue) your skin tends to lose some of its elasticty and so loose skin can result from a fair amount of weight loss.
At your age, with you wanting to lose a total of around 50 lbs, if you take it slow (no more than 3 lbs/wk) then you should be able to avoid having much, if any, extra skin. Be sure to do some strength training too so you can put some muscle into that skin in place of the fat. ☺
Question: What is the best spa body wrap to get that will help me lose excess water weight and detoxify? I've tried a few times, and I'd like to do it again. But I am afraid to spend so much money on something and not actually get what I thought I was getting.
So do I go with Seaweed, Coffee Bean, Steam.... ??
:) :)
Answer: Get an ionothermic treatment. it is intended for people trying to get rid of cellulite and lose a few inches. i had one done on a cruise i went to and i lost 4 inches total. the best part was i had just had a baby and the look of my stretchmarks and other areas was so much smoother.

Question: Which is the best medicine to reduce excess body wieght? some people are struggling to reduce their body weight. Most of them failed to find a correct remedy to reduce their body weight.
Answer: exercise
Question: Is using a pinch test a good way to measure body fat for a person with excess skin from losing weight? Because you might measure the excess skin instead of the body fat.
Answer: yes, it is fine. it actually may make it easier, since the skin is loose and you don't have to grapple with trying to pinch firm skin. fat under the skin will either be there or it won't, so your measurements will be accurate. the only problem i foresee is if it is really A LOT of excess skin, you may have to try to figure out placement of the calipers.
