Question: fad diets ? anybody have any fad diets that will make me lose 15 lbs by may 10.
im 5'4 , weigh 126, and 15 years old
Answer: Many of these diets — like the infamous Cabbage Soup Diet — can undermine your health, cause physical discomfort (abdominal discomfort and flatulence [gas] ) and lead to disappointment when you regain weight soon after you lose it.
*
Quick-weight-loss diets usually overemphasize one particular food or type of food. They violate the first principle of good nutrition: Eat a balanced diet that includes a variety of foods. If you are able to stay on such a diet for more than a few weeks, you may develop nutritional deficiencies, because no one type of food has all the nutrients you need for good health. The Cabbage Soup Diet mentioned above is an example. This so-called fat-burning soup is eaten mostly with fruits and vegetables. The diet supposedly helps heart patients lose 10–17 pounds in seven days before surgery. There are no "superfoods." That's why you should eat moderate amounts from all food groups, not large amounts of a few special foods.
*
These diets also violate a second important principle of good nutrition: Eating should be enjoyable. These diets are so monotonous and boring that it's almost impossible to stay on them for long periods.
Let's set the record straight: Many of these diets falsely say they are endorsed by or authored by our association. The public should know that the real American Heart Association diet and lifestyle recommendations emphasize flexibility in food selection and stress the importance of eating more nutrient-rich foods – that have vitamins, minerals, fiber and other nutrients but are lower in calories – and fewer nutrient-poor foods. If you need to lose weight, see our recommendations for safe weight loss.
Unlike an incomplete liquid protein diet or other fad diets, a good diet can be eaten for years to maintain desirable body weight and good health. Fad diets fail to provide ways to keep weight off.
*
Some major medical centers prescribe extremely low-calorie, high-protein diets for selected patients who are carefully monitored by physicians.
In what other ways are quick-weight-loss diets flawed?
* Many don't encourage physical activity — for example, walking 30 minutes most or all days of the week. Being physically active helps you maintain weight loss over a long time. Physical inactivity is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke.
* Because most quick-weight-loss diets require drastic changes in eating patterns, you can't stay on them for long. Following a regimen for a few weeks won't give you the chance to learn about how to permanently change your eating patterns.
* In addition, many fad diets are based on "food folklore," some dating back to the early 19th century. They have not been documented to be safe in the long term. Ideas about "fat-burning foods" and "food combining" are also classified by the American Heart Association as unsubstantiated myths.
Despite what quick-weight-loss diet books may say, the only sensible way to lose weight and maintain a healthy weight permanently is to eat less and balance your food intake with physical activity.
A healthy diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and fat-free or low-fat dairy products, along with regular physical activity, can help most people manage and maintain weight loss for both cardiovascular health and appearance. The American Heart Association urges people to take a safe and proven route to losing and maintaining weight — by following our guidelines for healthy, nutritionally balanced weight loss for a lifetime of good health.
Question: Are there any fad diets out there that actually work? The Atkins diet is definitely unhealthy, but are there any other fad diets out there that work? Question: will the south beach diet work for me after doing lots of fad diets? for the last 2 months i did all kinds of fad diets and lost 30 pounds, and i exercise for an hour every day on a exercise bike. but now if i eat more than 800 calories i gain Weight.
if i do the south beach diet will it fix my metabolism? and will i be able to lose weight with it?
Answer: The MOST important thing is to eat naturally..without medicines, chemicals, "starving" your self etc.
first, it would be best for you to eat as healthy as possible..this will also help you considerably to lose weight gradually and naturally..
eat fresh fruits, vegetables, drink plenty of WATER..avoid all cokes, caffeines, smoking, alchohol etc. as these also add weight as well as they contain chemicals which disturb your natural bio rythmns as well as brain chemistry. try not to eat too much meat, and the meat you should eat should be "lean meat" such as steamed chicken and rice, or steamed fish with rice..and vegetables,, this should be your staple diet rice and vegetables with fruits..AVOID "JUNK FOOD" and "Fast Food" as this type of food is very unhealthy, lacking in vitamins really and has plenty of fattening molecules which make one gain weight and is very bad for overall health.
if you snack,, try fruits with yogurt or fruit yogurt and nuts.. nuts are very healthy for your body .and contain proteins.
go for walks every evening or morning or whenever you get time each day for 1 hour or 2 hours..make this somewhere you enjoy walking even if you have to drive a bit to there..and make this a daily routine..you will enjoy it once you get into it ..and it makes you feel great after..just walking for 1 hour or 2 hours.
if you do this..every day for one month ..you should lose around 10 pounds (.714 stone) per month until you get to your natural healthy weight.. look up on the internet for an idea of what your weight for your height should be ..and when you get to this weight,,your body will look very nice and you will feel very good.
10 pounds (.714 stone ) each month in 3 months you should lose 30 pounds (2 stones, 2 pounds)..for sure...but no junk food and dont drink alcohol or smoke, dont eat junk..just healthy food with vitamins and walking 1 hour or 2 hours every day..and drink plenty of water..this is guaranteed way to lose weight naturally and for good, if you stick to this, which you should,,as it makes you feel so much more positive due to the vitamins and lack of chemicals making you feel depressed...
btw, forgot to mention,,just in case you dont know how to really make healthy meals..buy a "food steamer" at your local deparment store..they are very cheap and work very well..as well as buy a "rice cooker" which is also very cheap..eating rice is a great way to get your necessary carbs "healthy carbs" to lose weight and has lots of natural energy inside. you can buy asian rice at most large supermarkets or if you have a local oriental market..they sale quality asian rice.. thai or indian rice is good "jasmine rice".. buy corn or canola oil to sprinkle on vegetables or rice before steaming to add to taste as well as you can buy several nice spices like "cumin" or "Curry powders", etc.just sprinkle on the vegetables before steaming to give nice taste.
drink "Green Tea" as this is very healthy and helps burn extra fat faster...you can buy quality green tea at most oriental shops or large supermarkets as well
Question: Why do certain people use fad diets to help loose weight? when good exercise and eating Healthy foods that mother nature created (Fruits and Veggies)are known to help loose pounds. Answer: fat people want a 'quick fix' diet because they are lazy and can't be bothered to do anything properly, they're fat what do you expect?
Question: Will you loose 10 pounds every week on fad diets, or is it for a short term of time only? Will you loose 10 pounds every week on fad diets, or is it for a short term of time only? and is it true that if you start to eat again normally you will gain them all, plus some more, and if yes, why?
Answer: if you diet, 98% chance you'll gain the weight back. Just stick to a healthy lifestyle -- run, do stretching, different exercises to work all muscles and joints, it doesn't take much time, eat home cooked meals. Trust me, I never dieted since I was 13.
Question: What do you think are the dumbest/strangest fad diets i can try on my new blog thefaddist.com? I'm planning to try out every fad diet I can think of and then write up a report on each. Answer: Cause fad diets aren't realistic and don't work. Just eat healthy and make good choices
Question: What do you think about fad diets? Im just doing a report on fad diets, and im looking for people's opinions on the matter. And don't worry im not asking you so I can cheat or anything, just asking what other people think. Thanks!
Don't worry, Im not asking because im interested in doing a fad diet, im somewhat against them. I actually dont like them, i think its a bad way to lose weight. But Im listening to both sides.
Answer: They work in the short term, so they're great if you have something coming up that you want to look your very best at. Of course long term they can be dangerous to your health, and also if you do a fad diet you will put on weight when you go back to eating normally!!
Thats my opinion but I'm not sure if its fact or not. Another opinion is I don't care, everyone can eat whatever they want its their business!!

Answer: I do the Special K diet to keep me on track. I have a Special K bar with milk for breakfast, Special K cereal and a 100 calorie pack for lunch, and eat dinner normally, with 2 or 3 100-150 calorie snacks throughout the day. I also exercise 4-6 times a week and that has helped me keep off the 30 lbs I lost over a year ago doing Curves and just cutting back on my junk food.
Please answer my question!

Answer: If you want to lose weigh, never binge on food when you are bored, depressed, or stressed. This will never lose you weight. Put some love and determination on losing weight. Be consistent. If you say NO to fat-giving foods, it's a sure thing that you'll lose weight. But since you don't want fad diets, you can try introducing a set of exercise routine in your daily habit. The one that worked for me is the Body Renovator. This the easy solution for long term weight loss.
Question: What to do after a life-time of fad diets? Ok so after 20 years of fad diets, gaining and losing important amount of weight each year resulting in a screwed up metabolism....what's next? How to fix this? how to get back to normal eating?
Answer: Fad diets have never worked and never will work. The best way to lose weight is really quite simple. You need to cut back on calories and follow a program that combines healthy eating, aerobic exercise and strength training. This is a proven way to lose weight and keep it off permanently.
But following a program that consists of a healthy, reduced calorie diet, aerobic exercise and strength training will require effort and determination. If you don't feel that you will be able to muster the effort and determination by yourself, here are some suggestions:
Hire a personal trainer to design an exercise and nutrition program for you and hold you accountable.
Enlist a friend who also wants to lose weight to be your workout partner.
Join an exercise class or a boot camp.
If you just stick with a good nutrition and exercise program, you'll be looking and feeling great before you know it.
Good luck!
Question: How do people on fad diets keep themselves from eating ? I really dont know how they do it :/
I dont think I could ever, its so hard.
Hahah (: Answers ?
Im not saying I want to stop eating,
Im just asking how they do that.
I think its crazy.
Answer: Diets do not work. Crash diets reduce your metabolism, cause vitamin and mineral deficiencies, and can lead to serious health problems. Much of the weight lost on these diets is water and muscle tissue, not fat. To make matters worse, when you quit your diet (which will certainly happen since they aren't sustainable) you will probably gain more weight than you lost. In the end, you weigh more, your metabolism is lower, and your self-confidence is shaken.
