Food Contamination
Question: What are the causes of food contamination? please could you answer some or all of these questions:
1*What are the causes of food contamination?
2*What are the symptoms of salmonella?
3*What is a micro organism?
4*Why has the freezer become increasingly popular for freezing
in the home?
*will give 10 points to the most questions asked with sources*
Answer: 1. Most foods naturally contain small amounts of bacteria that pose no harm to people. But when food is poorly handled, improperly cooked or inadequately stored, bacteria can multiply quickly and cause food poisoning.
2. The acute symptoms of Salmonella gastroenteritis include the sudden onset of nausea, abdominal cramping, and bloody diarrhea with mucous. The onset of symptoms usually occurs within 6 to 72 hours after the ingestion of the bacteria.1 The infectious dose is small, probably from 15 to 20 cells. There is no real cure for a Salmonella infection (or salmonellosis), except treatment of the symptoms. For most strains of Salmonella, the fatality rate is less than one percent.
3. Micro-organisms are living organisms which are not visible to the naked eye. In gardening, micro-organisms play a very important part in the breakdown of plant and animal residue, convert it into plant nutrients, and then hold those nutrients in place to make them available to plants. This is the process by which humus is made.
4. It allows families to prepare and freeze thie meals days and weeks in advance to help save time which allow the family members to spend more time together.
Question: Food Contamination!? Hello Everyone!? I am 6 months pregnant and just like most moms and mommies to be we panick about the safety of our little one!! I have been eating out a whole lot lately I have been eating a lot of salads and raw vegetables Im like worried because you dont see who is cooking your food or how they are cooking it I was reading these articles today talking about food poisioning and stuff like that and I started to panick!! What are the symptoms of food poisioning!? In both mother and fetus like would the baby still move around alot or not!? That my question for any type of infections the fetus could get!? would there be any change in the fetal movement!? My pregnancy been doing great so far with the blessing from the lord and I just pray it stays that way from the time of birth and then on! thanx everyone!?
Answer: If you had full out food poisoning (ie. salmonella), you'd know. I've had food poisoning twice...once while pregnant, once not. Wow. You've never had an experience like that. Horrible.
As for listeria, you wouldn't always know, but if you're worried, check in with your doctor. Part of their job is to help allay your fears. It's normal to be worried and ask a lot of questions.
Question: Roles of the government and the manufacturers to fight against food contamination? Discuss the roles of the government and the manufacturers to fight against food contamination in the light of the melamine scare.
Best ans 10pts.
Answer: The primary role of the government would be to test food for contamination, quarantine or destroy such contaminated food, and prosecute those responsible. Unfortunately, the government (FDA and such) is woefully understaffed for such testing. I recall during the problem with lead in Chinese toys that the US had one (that's ONE) person to test all the imported toys in the country.
Manufacturers hence do most of the testing out of a mix of goodwill, responsibility, fear , and threat of punishment. (the mix varies considerably depending on the company). They can then sue or turn over for prosecution any suppliers they find are importing melamine contaminated products.
Question: with all the dog food contamination, what should I feed my dog? since the last incident with melamine in dog food with the Menu brand food, there has since been another recall and I am getting scared of feeding my dog any type of dry or wet food. I am currently feeding him Purina Beneful and have already bought another bag of it; I know this particular brand of dry food has not have any type of recall or contamination. What have you switched to when the recall happened? Are there better alternatives other than drugstore/supermarket brands? I don't want to resort to boiling chicken for him every meal.
Info on my dog: 14lb. male pom.
Answer: Canidae all life stages

Wellness Super 5 Mix
http://www.oldmotherhubbard.com/wellness/dog_wellness_dry_super5mix_chicken.html
Both are made of all natural human grade ingredients of US origins. No corn or wheat (empty fillers which provide no nutritional value to the dog and may contribute to food allergies) also no wheat gluten or rice protein (inexpensive ways to boost protein content - instead of real meat - and the cause of the recent recalls)
Purina Beneful (like most grocery-store brands) is stuffed full of corn, wheat, artificial flavors colors - read your bag, then either return it or throw it to the birds.

Your dog should not need more than 1/4 cup of either of the foods I recommended, twice a day. They may appear to cost more but it evens out because you feed less in order to give them their nutritional requirements; as a bonus for you they poop less. And you sleep better, not wondering if their food will be the next to be recalled.

Answer: I just gave examples of each...
COMPANIES
Reassurance:
Ingredients companies and food manufacturers in the US are taking pro-active measures to reassure customers of the safety of their products amid the melamine contamination scare which has now spread to certain tea and coffee products. DD Williamson has issued a statement to assure clients that its colorings pose no risk for contamination with melamine, an industrial chemical that was recently found in infant formula in China and has been linked to the deaths of four children.

Question: Is anyone else suspicious of all the food contamination? Every time we turn around there is another contamination crisis. E-coli, salmonella, botulism, and now whatever is finally determined to be the cause of sickening our pets. Isn't anyone concerned these are acts of terrorism? If their goal is to destroy our economy and have us living in fear, attacking our food sources would be an effective way of accomplishing that.
Answer: They all have it in for us. Damn green eyed monster just wont die. People let us try to only eat USA made food and buy USA products and build ourselves up and let the slugs die where they stand. Americans need to wake up and take our country back. Liberals are not American by the way. God Bless.
Question: What dog food should I avoid feeding my dogs because of the food contamination? My dogs eat the Ol' Roy dry dog food from those big bags, and it seems fine. But when this bag is all used up, is it okay to buy the same thing?
I just want to know what brands are contaminated and to avoid getting.
Thanks.
Answer: Don't feed them anything with wheat gluten in it.
Though it was mainly canned food that was recalled, they are now recalling some dry brands and treats as well.
Ol' Roy was on the list, so I would suggest buying something else just to be safe..
Question: Why has there been so much food contamination recently? In my globalization class we were asked to examine the tomato, spinach, and beef contamination over the past few years. I know that salmonella and ecoli are some how getting into the crop but there has to be a bigger idea behind the whole thing for it to be brought up in my class.
What do you know that i haven't been figuring out by watching the news?
Answer: Because people don't care about other's health and safety. They are too lazy.
As far as meat goes, contamination starts in the butchering process. With veggies, it starts with the crops anywhere from animals trampling and crapping on the foods and most of the time, contaminated water.
Its disgusting.thats why i grow my own veggies.
Question: What is food contamination ***homework help***? does anyone know what
What is food contamination?
What can happen to us if we eat contaminated food?
How can we prevent food from being contaminated?
What are the causes of food contamination?
10 points for the best answer YAY!!!!
thank you!!!
Answer: when food is infected or contaminated with germs or any disease causing bacteria or those which may spoil the food then it is called as contaminated food and this process of contamination of food due to improper handling when being packed is called as food contamination.
if we eat infected or contaminated food the infectious bacteria may enter our digestive system and cause diseases.they may also enter blood streams along with the absorbed food if they are having that ability.
food contamination can be prevented by sterilization methods(process of removing unwanted bacteria from any thing it may be food or any type of container or clothes etc. is called sterilization.)
Causes of food contamination are :
improper handling of food
improper sterilization methods
improper cooking or boiling
improper storage conditions
ans a lot
the answer depends on which class you are studying. mention it in your next questions this will help in giving answers.(higher the class higher should be the standard of answer.)

Question: What tests can be used to confirm sources of food contamination? For example, if a restaurant finds e.coli in it's meat, how can it confirm that the bacteria came from the meat plant and not from the restaurant itself.
Answer: They would test the meat from the restaurant, then they would go to the plant where the meat was produced and test the meat there and also check the machines. There are many strains of e-coli and if the strain matches, then that plant would be considered the one who had the contaminated meat.
Question: Has anyone had their animal affected by the dog food contamination? My great dane Baxter is at the emergency clinic. They are keeping him overnight. Severly dehydrated, vomiting and diarrhea, small blood amounts in his stool. His heart rate is supposed to be 50-60 it is 150. He is my best buddy. He is 1 1/2 yrs old. They ruled out bloat by x-ray and are now looking at possible food contamination because he is an indoor dog, kennelled during the day (indoors) and never gets into anything. They put him on IV's and are monitoring him carefully. Just curious, because the vet said she has seen alot of kidney and liver failure from the contamination, have you had or do you know of anyone who has gone through this? note: he was not eating any of the dog food on the list. (for the record, I am not one to post this and not update, I think that stinks, I will let you know in the am what happens).
His was dry dog food.
I am in the SE. The brand is a nationally recognized brand as being high quality, and as I said before, not on the list. This may or may not be caused by the food. They are still checking. Just talked to the Vet. He is doing better but still weak. Good news is we got him there soon enough to stop any liver damage through rehydration. That is why I cannot stress enough early treatment for anything that involves diahrrea or liquid loss of any kind. We don't have alot of money but we made a commitment to our animals. Thank you, everyone (well almost everyone) for your answers so far. Will let you know in the morning.
Ok, I said I would update. Baxter is home this morning with a catheter in his leg. We are keeping a close eye on him. It does appear to be something ingested (still ckng possibility of food). I have to take him back later on this afternoon. He is resting right now. Reason why he is home is Danes inparticular are very sensitive and don't do well outside of the home environment. He is better but not out of the woods yet. Thank you all for your concern and answers. I am taking the day off to be with him so....see ya later on YA...right now going to curl up with Baxter and take a nap..long night. Alda

were found to be contaminated by the usda and they still madr it to the plant that caused the sallmonella out break
Answer: To provide benefits for the corporate masters of our politicians.
Question: What other types of testing can be done to confirm with little doubt the origin of the food contamination? that's the main question but if you can help me with:
Why would the tryptophan synthetase A amino acid sequence differ between bacteria if the bacteria are from the same origin?
Answer: 1. Food contamination
This usually involves making comparisons about the sources of ingredients in the food and other foods that didn't make people ill, and eliminating possibilities.
For example, your cafeteria experienced a salmonella outbreak today. The food served today was soup and salad. So you would first determine if a greater proportion of people eating each food in the soup/salad had food poisoning than those that did not. For example, if the people who ate salad became sick, but the people who only ate soup did not, then something is wrong with the salad. For example, if the people who ate boiled broccoli in the salad got sick and the people who ate the same broccoli in the soup did not get sick, then broccoli is not the source of contamination. And you would go until you found something, say spinach, that is the probable cause of the food contamination at your cafeteria. Then you would have to see if other places where the spinach from that processing company was delivered, and see if they had problems. What makes the process more difficult nowadays is that packaging companies take produce from many farms and throw them together. So now you have to say...Packaging company 1 took spinach from farms A, B and C and had contaminated spinach. Packaging company 2 took spinach from farms B and C and was fine. So B is the likely source of the food contamination. Now, you must investigate farm B and see what could possibly have caused the contamination. It's very, very hard to "confirm without a doubt" the cause of the contamination. Most of the time, it's really not worth the time and effort.
2. Tryp synthetase A: over the course of evolutionary history, mutations will occur, that will cause the amino acid sequence to change somewhat. Every time the bacteria replicates, there's a certain chance for error in duplicating the DNA. This could cause a change in the amino acid sequence. Even over the course of several months, if you are growing lots of bacteria to make protein, without going back to the stock of bacteria, you have to make sure that the amino acid sequence of the protein still has the correct sequence.
Question: How can I prevent cross contamination from on home-cooked food to my panty collection? I try and keep the kitchen clean when being used for food, but still find cross contamination sometimes. What should I do to prevent it?
Answer: if i were you i wouldn't wear panties at all while I was cooking because then you wouldn' t have to worry about it unless, of course, you had people over for dinner in which case you would have to have them stay out of the kitchen while you were cooking because you didn't have any underwear on, but then again, you could be the life of the party cooking up a lot of food with no underwear and when the men make comments about it just tell em something like, 'hey baby you should see what's for dessert!' and that would like freak em all out or you could say something like, you'll just not have to mind me with no under wear because i needed to air IT out.
Question: What is the safest way to store prepared food in the freezer without contamination? I was wondering what is the best way to store prepared food in the freezer without contamination. A friend of mine had triplets last thursday, and I'm going over to help her family cook up quite a bit of food today, so that she doesn't have to cook for the next 6 months or so. I would really appreciate any tips, suggestions or opinions on storage containers. Please no rude answers, thank you.
Answer: In my opinion, it would be better to freeze raw, then prepare as needed. Keep in mind, some foods don't keep well, frozen, for 6 months. They will "freezer burn". Especially if the freezer door is opened & closed constantly; ice crystals develop. The major cause of freezer burn. If wrapped properly, in butcher wrap and placed in a quality freezer bag it will be fine. Vacuum sealers are very good, as well.
