Gas
Question: GAS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I heard that gas may go up to 3x times the price by tommorow, not to seem selfish but I have a football game and its a 2 hour drive do you think gas will be that high by about 3 pm tommorow?
You guys are lucky here in NC its gone up .40 so far.
Answer: If you need gas you need gas.. BUT please, I urge you to check out www.gasbuddy.com before you buy, and buy ONLY from the cheapest station. Don't support gouging. Don't overbuy at high prices. If we are willing to pay higher gas prices, then the gas stations will keep the prices high, and over-inflate prices. Report gougers to http://gaswatch.energy.gov/ .
Question: Gas!!!!!!!? Any ideas for a good car/truck that gets good gas mileage? I am in construction and i need a full size pickup approx 2 days a week but i could use something smaller when i dont need to haul stuff. I need a big cargo space or trunk. And not too expensive ,or that defeats the purpose of saving $$. It costs me $50-60 a day for fuel right now,so let me know what to get.
Looking for something that gets around 30 mpg.
Answer: Get a diesel pickup. They can tow and haul huge payloads and still get better mileage than a gasoline pickup that hauls nothing.
Question: Can a gas stove be moved to stand next to a kitchen sink without any gaps in between? I am renting an apartment in which the 2nd floor kitchen has an old farmhouse sink on the left, a 5" gap or so of space, then the gas stove. I wanted to move the gas stove so that there is no space in between the sink and stove. I want to place a workspace cabinet on the otherside of the stove.
1) Are there any safety concerns in having the gas stove moved to touch the side of the sink cabinet?
The sink cabinet is metal. I don't know why the stove is not directly sitting next to the sink but somebody thought it would be the place for installing an old metal towel rack on the side of the sink cabinet.
2) Can I move the stove myself or do I have to hire someone who is experienced in working with gas appliances?
3) What do I have to do to prepare the stove before I move it over those few inches?
4) Is it safe to have a painted wooden cabinet sit on the otherside of the gas stove? I don't use the oven, just the gas burners on top.
THANKS!
Answer: if you are going to move the stove, move it the other way,do not put it next to the sink...safety concerns...if you are going to move it, get someone who knows what they are doing...gas line could break(i have seen it happen) and if you dont know how to shut it off there could be a big problem...as far as next to a wood cabinet, there is no problem with that, the outside of ovens does not get hot enough to do anything
Question: How does dry gas affect a gasoline engine? I was once told by my mechanic that since I didn't drive my car much I should add a bottle of dry gas every fill up.I fill my car up once every 2 months.I have never had any bad results with this and have been doing it for years.
I recently had water in my gas in my lawn mower(probably due to condensation)and was told by the repairman not to add dry gas to the gas because of plastic and rubber parts.
Is this any different from a car due to the size of engine.
Same proportions of dry gas to gas.
Answer: Dry gas is mostly methanol or ethanol, so it's similar to using gasohol. If you can use gasohol in your mower, it should be safe enough to use dry gas in similar proportions, usually up to 10%, but don't add it to gasohol, which would serve no purpose.
Question: Are there natural gas ranges with automatic shut-off system? I have a natural gas range with electric spark ignition (no pilot). If the flame is put out because of air flow or any other reason, the gas flow is not shut off automatically. In many countries, gas ranges come with a very simple device (i.e., a thermocouple) that shuts off the gas flow in such situations. What mechanism is designed in Canadian appliances to prevent the danger of gas emission?
Answer: i do not believe so.......in the u.s. there is a simple fitting shut off device that attaches to the gas range flex connector that simply shuts down the flow if the connector is broken etc....this happens when a range is pulled out and the connector is broken - i strongly think this will work for if a large amount of gas is blowing, i.e. (burner) it will shut itself down - might want to look into this..
Question: How does a green gas blowback airsoft rifle work? Where does the gas go? How do you put the gas in? And what exactly is a gas operated magazine? I'm planning on buying my own green gas blow-back rifle that has a gas magazine but I don't really know how this type of rifle works because I'm used to CO2 sub machine guns and pistols. Thank you for your help.
Answer: http://www.airsplat.com/Items/GR-KJW-M4-CARB.htm
the green gas is stored in the magazine itself and is filled like you would a butane lighter. you can also run these guns on propane as well. on a blowback model, it opperates just like an actual firearm. the gas pushes the bolt back to the rear to load the next round. they have a lot of moving parts and generally a lot of fun to shoot. the biggest difference between green gas and CO2 is that green gas has silicone mixed in with it to keep it lubricated!
Question: What happens to the density of a gas contained in a rigid steel container as you heat the gas? What happens to the density of a gas contained in a rigid steel container as you heat the gas?
A.The density of the gas doubles.
B.The density of the gas does not change.
C.The density of the gas decreases.
D.The density of the gas increases.
Answer: I take that the container is sealed.
B - For a constant mass the density will remain the same as long as the volume remain the same.
Question: How much is gas a gallon where you are? Any saving suggestions? Gas has risen 3 times over the last week where I live, right now a regular unleaded gallon of gas will cost you 3.30! I live on a farm, so we use gas for more than our regular trucks, any suggestions on making it more bearable on my wallet until gas prices start to come down?
Answer: 1.check the air filters on the trucks an replace if dirty.
2.if trucks have high miles check, clean and regap the spark plugs
3.buy gas in the late evening only, gas expands with temperature and you actually get a little more if you fill up at night (it is more dense)
4. avoid extended idling
5.accelerate slowly and slow down gently (stomping the brakes results in blowing gas out your exhaust pipe.
6.do not drive fast
7. make sure tires are properly inflated
8.avoid the use of air conditioning if possible
9.open the tailgate on the truck while driving, it reduces air resistance
10.drive with windows closed - see above
Question: How to hook up a gas line in kitchen for a gas range? We just bought a new construction home and am picking out appliances. I prefer to cook on a gas stove vs electric. There is no gas line in th kitchen but the home does have a gas furnance so there is gas coming into the home. How easy or hard is it to put a line into the kitchen and what is all involved?
Thanks
Answer: FORGET ABOUT DOING IT YOURSELF, IT TAKES KNOWLEDGE ABOUT RUNNING GAS, AND THE THREADING EQUIPMENT IS NOT WORTH BUYING FOR ONE JOB.PLUS IF IT LEAKS AND SOME ONE GETS HURT/KILLED AND HOUSE GETS BURN/DESTROYED, IS IT WORTH IT TO SAVE 500 DOLLARS
Question: Is it normal to smell gas when cooking with a gas stove? I just moved into an apartment that uses a gas stove. It's kind of an old stove, but when I cook the smell of gas is kinda overwhelming. Is my stove pushing out to much gas or what? Are you supposed to be able to smell the gas?
One of the burners I just tested ticked about 8 or 9 times. One of them took a little longer and another took a little less.
Answer: Cleaning has already been suggested and I think that may be your problem, or your problem may be a result of cleaning. There are mix vents in your stove that when you turn on the gas it is mixed with air and sent to the burner. If the vent has been closed a little during cleaning it would enrich the mixture not burning all the gas at the burner.
you can piddle with it, or you can get hold of the owner or manager and have them get someone to set it for you. Also, if it were dirty, it might cause the same problem.
Question: With a standard gas oven does the oven itself use more gas than the large gas ring? Due to the high rise in gas prices I wonder if it is cheaper to cook something for half hour in the oven (bearing in mind you can cook more than one item) or if it is cheaper on the large gas ring. Advice would be much appreciated.
Answer: rings far more expensive love as most of the heat escapes... the oven is better. xx
Question: Can alittle water in a gas can cause a mower not to start? I left a gas can in the yard while it was raining yesterday, bot 20$ worth of gas filled it, then put the gas in my mower and now it wont start. I am about to dump out all the gas, could rain have tainted the gas?
Answer: Yes, but don't throw the gas out. You can get Sta-Bill, it takes water out of fuel and also acts as a fuel stabilizer that will enable you to keep the fuel for 12 months without it deteriorating. One can, 8 oz. will do the trick. You can get it at Wal Mart.
Question: What is the partial pressure of gas A expressed after equilibration? Two gases are contained in gas bulbs connected by a valve. Gas A is present in a 1 liter bulb at a pressure of 874 torr. Gas B exerts a pressure of 457 torr in a 1 liter bulb. The valve is opened and the two gases equilibrate. What is the partial pressure of gas A expressed after equilibration? Answer in torr.
Answer: 437 torr.
Boyle's law: PV=PV
1L*874 torr.= 2L*P
P=437 torr.
This is the way I'll think of it, because only the volume changed to 2L.
But I am not sure that this is the answer for certain. So just wait a while and see if anyone else agrees or have a better answer.
Question: What gas is used to inflate modern airbags in most cars? I've searched Wikipedia and lots of other sites, but they all just say the bag is inflated with gas. What gas is used??? Nitrogen or something... I don't know? Please help.
P.S. This is for an assignment I am doing, so don't give me extra information, just what type of gas is used.
Answer: Sodium Azide (NaN3).
A pellet of sodium azide (NaN3) is ignited and a rapid reaction occurs, generating nitrogen gas (N2).
Question: How do you find a gas leak in a house if there is no gas on now? The Gas Co. said there is a leak somewhere under the house & they turned the gas off. This is a rental house I own. We just went all electric in it last year but that is too expensive so I need to go back to gas & get a new furnace. But how do I run down a leak with the gas off & do you have any alternative ideas on heating a rental house? Thank you.
Answer: My best advice for you is to hire a plumbing contractor that specializes with gas line installation. They will repair or replace the lines.
Don't mess gas systems if you do not know what your doing. There is a real danger of an explosion and fire.
Be safe call an expert.
Question: If you use regular gas in a lexus is250, can you switch to premium gas without damaging the car? I'm looking at getting a 2006 or 2007 lexus is250. First off, I'm wondering what type of gas type i'm supposed to use. I'ver heard people have used regular gas and premium. Also, if the car I buy has always used regular gas and I start using premium, will it damage the car at all?
Answer: The owner's manual specifies premium, although it includes a caveat about regular being OK in a pinch, but to expect reduced performance.
If they used regular before, will it hurt to switch to premium? Of course not. Could you always use regular? Perhaps. But consider......
1. Do you really think me, you (or anyone here) knows more about what fuel the car should use than the engineers that designed it? Manufacturers also know that people generally want lower gas costs, if they thought regular would be OK, they wouldn't specifiy premium.
2. Assume premium costs 20 cents a gallon more, you drive 15K miles a year and the car gets 25 mpg, all about right. Doing the math, you need 600 gallons a year, which will cost $120/yr extra. That's $10/month. If $10/mo is that big a deal, you need to be looking at a Camry, not a Lexus.
Good luck!
