Question: Where did the saying "The Golden Years" come from? A lot of people use this phrase and I guess the saying was suppose to be good years of life. Many people start having health problems when the golden years come around and don't feel it is the better years of their lives.I wonder where the phrase originated in the first place.
Answer: Probably because the 50th wedding anniversary is symbolized with gold. So once you've reached the age of 50, you're golden, although this probably began at a time when 50 was considered old.
Question: Why and how was the time of Queen Elizabeth in England another "Golden Years Era" for England and Britain? and how the different parts of Britain were in relationship to each other at that time? please explain and describe reasons, etc.
how compared this time to the later "Golden Years Era" of the "Victorian Age"? and how one was more the truer "Golden Years Era" overall in your opinion.
also, which other times in Britain could be described as such as why for that.
please explain and describe.
thanks for your answers!
Answer: I think it was a "Golden Age" because:
--Her governmental policies were more moderate than those that came before
--There was a major focus on the arts, particularly drama (she was a major fan of theater)--the plays that were produced during her reign are some of the most famous throughout history
--She was actually pretty open-minded about religion--at least way more open-minded than the rulers who came before. She didn't accept the radical people of course, but she did approach religion with a degree of pragmatism that was quite unusual.
--There was a major push for exploration of the 'new world' during her reign (ie. Francis Drake). She understood the importance of that.
--She wasn't very aggressive in terms of the military--she was more defensive.
--Under her rule and guidance, trading relationships flourished
--She was pretty diplomatic in her dealings with other countries
Question: How many people who are against socialism are depending on social security to fund their golden years? Just curious since only a very small percentage of Americans have saved enough to independently fund their retirement years.
Dolce dear, I'm almost 50. I'm not depending on social security. My liberal hippie daddy explained the beauty of investments and the uncertain nature of social security to me when I got my first job at 14. My retirement has been comfortably funded since I was 35.
Answer: By the time I get to retire the retirement age will be 75 to keep it solvent. It is going bankrupt just like medicare. They (republicans and democrats) are spending and have been spending social security funds for the general operating budget for years while growing government faster than GDP. Any one on medicare that can buys supplemental insurance now because base medicare is just not good enough. Bottom line the government has been collecting payroll taxes to pay for social security for years and have been using it on pet projects, bridges to nowhere, cash for clunkers and on and on. Government can only be trusted to spend more than they take in. I would be for social security if I thought I had a chance in Hades of being their for me when I was 65. I will even continue to pay my taxes to pay for those currently in retirement or those who will retire within the next 15 years if I am not taxed any further.
Question: how large was the Dutch navy in comparison to the Spanish and English Navy during its "Golden Years"? and in which years was this?
please give any estimation in the size in comparison to the other naval powers of the world and how they got that way?
how they spread their economic power to countries such as Latvia and elsewhere?
Answer: In the early 1600's the Dutch navy was larger than all the other european navies combined, later the other navies got larger the Dutch, Spanish and British navy were of the same size. They were at constant war (over trade routes and colonies)
The Dutch were the largest traders with the baltic countries of all the European international trading countires. The reason for their strong precense in the baltic states was probably mainly due to their geographical position. However, for the Dutch the baltyic states were not of great interest
Question: What are the "Golden Years" for older people and when do they begin? My doctor could not even answer that one! I asked my doctor today at my check-up. He could not answer the question. But, an operation I need, they state I should wait until my golden years. Their terminologies should be set if they answer questions with imaginary time limits. It would be unethical according to their code of ethics. I want an answer from someone straight forward. Not just guesses.
Answer: I think all you're going to get is guesses, since there's no hard and fast definition of it.
I would think the original definition was post-retirement, which would be the mid-60s.
Question: How many of you Senior Citizens have furthered your education in your silver/golden years? ..or do you know someone that did? I have always admired older people that go back to school to either get their GED or take college classes.

Question: What kind of challenges do you expect those in their golden years to have with 0bamacare? I used to chat with a woman in Quebec whose father got sick. She claimed he died because she couldn't get him quality care in a timely manner.
Are you worried about yourself or your parents?
ONAN DJA - I try not to condom things since I am fixed. I'm afraid the Democrats are giving it to America without a condom as well.
Answer: Survival will be in deed a challenge as drugs and medical care are now in jeopardy

Question: My 2 years old Golden Retriever is losing his hair in patches? Hi,
My 2 years old Golden Retriever is losing his hair in patches on both sides of his body. We took him to the Vet they did an skin scraping and everything came out negative (they didnt find anything), they also took blood sample to check on hormone levels and everything came normal. He is fine otherwise and Vet says that the skin is healthy but I feel the hair loss is getting worse. I have to take him tomorrow for more blood samples (vet says that could be kidney problems) Does anyone know what could it be ?
Answer: Your vet has ruled out mange and thyroid problems, so what is left is allergies and shedding.
If you are feeding him a corn-based dog food, he is probably allergic to one or more of the grains in the food. If you're giving him corn-based dog treats, again, he could be allergic to one or more of the grains in the treat (corn, wheat, wheat gluten, wheat or corn meal, soy, etc.). Try switching dog foods for a month or two and see if that helps. Try Innova, Evo, Royal Canid, Burns, Wellness, or whatever other meat-based dog food you can find in your pet store - and if your pet store doesn't carry any meat-based dog foods, try getting them online. They're more expensive than corn-based dog foods, of course, since meat is lots more expensive than corn. But the other advantages are that there's usually no BHA or BHT (preservatives) added to meat-based dog foods. The preservatives allow the manufacturers, distributors, and retailers to keep the corn-based dog food on the shelves for a couple of years; the meat-based dog food is almost guaranteed to be fresher. Some dogs are also allergic to some meats, so be sure to try a different variety if the first one doesn't result in some improvement.
Instead of whatever treats you're giving him now, try giving him frozen green beans or fresh baby carrots. Most dogs like them, and they're not going to add much to his calorie count.
If your dog is just shedding, then you can try getting a shedding loop (shedding blade) to brush the loose fur off of him. If you use a regular brush, it won't get much and you'll have to press pretty hard to get to the undercoat. While the shedding blade (shedding loop) has very shallow teeth, it does get the undercoat and pull it free. One of my dogs, who hates being brushed, loves the shedding loop. But be sure to brush him outside if you're using the shedding blade, because fur will go everywhere and if you do it in the house, you'll be picking up dog fur for months afterward. You'll find it in all the little nooks and crannies you think nothing can get into! If your pet store doesn't have one, you can get one online at DrsFosterSmith.com.
Good luck!
Question: Do whales often go blind in their golden years? Do they experience the other symptoms of aging like weakening bowels, confusion, loss of memory, and such?
Answer: Yes, whales, just like all animals, experience the ravages of aging.
Blindness wouldn't be as much of an issue for whales as deafness would. Toothed whales (Sperm whales, Orcas, pilot whales, etc.) use sonar to find their prey and communicate with each other. A deaf whale is at a severe disadvantage.
Often when whales wash up on shore scientists can do basic assessments to decide how old the whales are.
When whales get old they are less able to feed themselves and are more likely to have larger loads of parasites. They may be more susceptible to being struck by ships or weakened by entanglements.
Baleen whales can have severely worn baleen (the brushy filters in their mouths instead of teeth) and some toothed whales will have severely worn teeth.
Loss of memory or confusion issues are unknown, but dolphin trainers can confirm that old dolphins can become very stubborn and perhaps confused.
Question: why is mccain prepared to devote his golden years to this? surely, he has enough money to hang it up and enjoy the rest of his life outside the arena.
surely, his wife would want that for him, and his kids and grandkids.
unless...he really believes in this country and wants us to do well.
why else would anybody want to at his age? ...sacrifice maybe?
what other possibility could exist?
Answer: I am totally at a loss for words. How do I explain love of country to the Democrats in this section? They have absolutely no frame of reference for the idea.
Question: What are some things I can start doing so I'm well off in my golden years? Financially wise, of course, ;-)
Yes I'm in my midtwenties.
Answer: 1. NEVER borrow money. If you can't pay CASH, you can't afford it. The ONLY exception is a 15 year FIXED rate mortgage with payments no more than 1/4 of your TAKE HOME pay.
2. Pay off anything you already owe ASAP.
3. Put 15% of you income aside for retirement. Preferably in growth stock mutual funds.
$100/month for 35 years would be worth around $600,000.
You could draw around $40,000/year and leave enough to cover inflation. With no payments, that is not a terrible income.
