Grain Fed
Question: has anyone eaten grass-fed beef? how does it compare to to grain fed beef? i know that a majority of beef cattle eat hay and legumes for the first couple months of their lives then eventually eat more grains to get them up to weight. i am wondering how does a good grass-fed beef compare to a grain fed that is in the store--anyone tried it?
Answer: I grew up in northern Montana and all of the beef I ate was grass fed. I moved to another state where the beef is grain fed and in my opinion is not nearly as good, it tastes "greasy" to me and the flavor is flat no matter how I season it. I know that the type and quality of the grass fed to the cow will affect the flavor. You should buy some at the store and see what you think. Good luck!
Question: Since cows are only fed grain, plants, and water, isn't beef vegetarian? Cows are only fed grain, plants, and water so in reality it's plants in, plants out. What's the difference between eating an ear of corn, or letting that ear of corn be turned into beef and eating the beef. Either way, you're still eating vegetables. Basically being a meat eater is just being a second hand vegetarian, right?
Answer: I dont care i stil eat it anyway;)
Question: Where can I buy grain-fed and/or organic meat and produce near Greencastle, PA? I would like to support local farmers while feeding my family a healthy diet while getting the most for my money.
Could anyone recommend local farms that supply these needs within a 30 mile radius of Greencastle, PA.
Thanks
I made a mistake. It's not grain-fed meat I'm looking for. I'm actually looking for grass-fed meat.
Thanks!
Answer: Steer away from grain fed and find free-range or grass fed meat. Much more flavorful.
Question: What's a good place to buy fresh super premium grain fed beef in the glendale area? I live in Arcadia right by pasadena it'd help a lot if you had the adress but the names good enough
Answer: try whole foods market or wild oats market or try trader Joe's market all of them have what you are looking for.
Question: grain fed beef, straight from the farm, it`s organicly grown, anyone interested? just interested if this would be something people would be interested in
Answer: My dad raises beef on his small farm - just 2 or 3 a year, but always has takers - most want half a side or a quarter; he says dealing with a half is easier then a quarter.
Better meat then ever you get at the store, marbled, flavorful, excellent :)
Good Luck with it :)
Question: How would you find out if you are eating grass fed or grain fed red meat?
come on, a store has to sell some...right plz say Right !!!
Answer: If you buy it in the store, assume it is grain finished. All cows are actually grass fed until the last few weeks before they are butchered, but it is the grass-finished meat that is healthy.
To be sure you are getting grass-finished meat, get it directly from a farm that sells only grass-fed meat that is not fed any grains.
Check the Eat Wild and/or Local Harvest sites to find farms in your area.
Question: where can I buy free range chicken that is not fed grain that includes corn?
I have a child that was recently diagnosed with a few food allergies, one being corn. What I've found is that corn, or a corn derivative is in most food.
Answer: I really doubt that you will unless you raise it yourself or can find a contract producer.
But why?Edit; I think I misread the question. I thought you meant feed containing Corn. But I see you mean no grain. Zero chance. What would you expect said chicken to eat? Not easy to get enough insects and that would not be a balanced diet for chickens anyway. I suppose you could formulate a feed without grain. I speculate that it would consist of Alfalfa, possibly dried potato for carbohydrates, maybe Soy. But then a manufactured feed seems to go against the whole idea of "free range" doesn't it?
Question: Why is grass fed beef healthier than grain fed beef? Aren't there more nutrients put in grain feed?
Answer: Cows evolved as grass-eaters, not grain eaters. Their bodies are designed to use grass as food. Grain, such as corn, fattens them up faster, thus bringing them to market sooner, and reducing the cost of raising them, resulting in lower costs at the grocery market, and higher profits for the farmer. However, it is not natural for cows to eat corn and chicken manure. As such, they do not get the same nutrient value from grain, meaning that the final meat-on-the-plate has lower nutritional values than grass-fed beef.
Question: is there a way you can tell if the meat was grass or grain fed? color smell texture,
what am i looking for in each type.
also which type is likely to cook faster or come out more tender.
Answer: it does matter.
Grain fed usually stand stiller and so the muscles do not work as much and the meat is more tender.
Grass fed tends to be a bit tougher but also more flavor or at least different flavor. More BEEF flavor.
However, most people wouldn't notice the difference unless you lived on a farm and ate home butchered meat often.
I never a saw a difference in color, texture or smell.
On the farm, we used to secure which ever animal was intended for butchering in a small outdoor pasture so they did not roam all over. They lived there for the summer for fall butchering. This yielded tender meat and was still grass fed for the most part although my father did add some grain to the feed to insure nice marbling of the meat for juiciness and tenderness as well.
Question: Which countries mainly have grain fed beef?
Answer: The US is the only country that has grain fed beef.
Question: what are n-p-k levels on aged horse manure? horses were fed grain, hay, and grass spring thru fall....? Horses were fed grain, and hay all year long, but during springtime thru fall could also enjoy grass, along with hay and grain. I heard different feeding habits make for different N-P-K levels, but I dont really want to spend money on a tester if someone could tell me these levels themselves. The bottom layer of manure may be 25-30 years old, and the top layer may be a day old. I'd say it's 2-1/2 - 3-1/2 ft. thick and I'm not sre if I've seen the bottom layer yet. any info will help. Hope I gave enough info for an approximate, Thanks.
Answer: the n.p.k. of ur manure is more then likely the same as any bag of organic at the store u just need to go and check a bag and as for that 25-30 yr old manure that's no good you start loosing all the good stuff as soon as it hits the ground.i took a year of horticulture in school and learned most of this.no need to store that manure sell it and all ways use fresh that's what the horses are for
Question: If you Bought a Round bale of have for 2 horses ,and u still fed them grain How long do u think the hay last ?
They will be on a Acre of land w/ AWSOME grass supplied .They both will be fed a large bucket , of oats and sweet feed A day . And the hay will be a Round Bale .
Answer: One acre of grass for two horses is nothing, it won't last a month, no matter how good it is.. :)
Round bales are notorious for having mold and bad hay in them, and we never feed them to horses because of that. There is also a lot of waste, as they stand and pick and as it falls to the ground they just keep picking, so what's laying on the ground gets stepped on, and well you get the idea.
Question: Do eggs that come from grain fed, free range chickens really taste better than a "factory" egg from the store?
Answer: I wouldn;t say better so much as different. I could go either way.
Question: how did grain fed cattle alter site and situation in the meat packing industry?
Answer: This is a tough question.
However, I believe it may have been the other way around, that the meat packing industry itself altered site and situation of grain-fed cattle, in such a way that cattle could be shipped a shorter distance than necessary to be "harvested." Meat packing industry also formed companies that were able to take over the grain-fed industry, owning feedlots and controlling the prices and what cattle were best for their market in comparison to others. The grain-fed cattle didn't control the meat-packing industry; the meat packing industry controls the grain-fed cattle.
Question: what is the best way too catch farm raised grain fed catfish when they have moved them too a lake?
Answer: chum the water with what the fish are used to eating.
If you broadcast corn or what they have been raised on they will congregate at that spot and you can catch them.
Question: Which tastes better, grass fed cattle or grain fed? Just wondering.
And where can I buy a real grass fed and naturally grazed beef?
Answer: Grass-fed cattle has more of a gamey flavor to it than corn-fed. Corn-fed has more fat, so the taste of the fat flavors the meat. For grass-fed, you're going to find the meat a little less tender, so it can do with a marinade for 12 hours or so. I prefer the flavor of grass-fed, and some recent research seems to show it's better for us (one of the reasons being it doesn't need a lot of antibiotics, which corn-fed cattle need, because their stomachs aren't built for corn). To find grass-fed, look to organic farmers, or farmers who advertise their beef as being pastured, as suppliers to a local butcher. Talk to the butcher. There are so few left these days that those who remain as independent butcher stores tend to really care about what they're selling, and can tell you about the meat they're buying from the farmers. If they can't tell you about where and how the meat was raised, move on to another butcher.
