Answer: chew gum, buy hard candy sticks, always have them close by.
Question: How to improve my habit of being figity? I've a very bad habit of being figity all the time specially while I'm lying down. I want to change this habit of mine, but not able to. Any good suggestions to improve my bad habit. Due to this habit I'm spoiling my relationship with my husband too. We fight a lot because of it. Appreciate good advice.
Thanks.
Answer: I get figity, too. I've found that while I'm sitting, placing one or both hands under my thighs helps keep me from fidgiting too much. Or crossing my legs and placing one hand in the middle.
You could also try redirecting your thoughts. Usually people figit because they're thinking / in deep thought about something. Meditation can help you learn how to handle, control, and redirect your thoughts.
But because it's affecting your relationship, why not seek some professional advice? They would be more than happy to help you and give you some coping tips.
Best of luck!
Question: What habit could replace emotional eating? I just read online that to break a bad habit you have to replace it with one that satisfies what the old one satisfied. Whenever I'm sad or depressed, I eat, if I'm bored, I eat. So any suggestions for a habit to replace emotional eating?
Answer: Ok, what you should do instead of eating:
paint, jog, bath, book sotre, dye your hair, facial, make an old shirt into a new shirt, clean your space.
Just add to the list, find something to kee your mind off of things.
Question: What is the connection between habit and moral character? What is the connection between habit and moral character? Do you think a bad habit is indicative of bad moral character, or are habits, by definition, more objective in their scope?
Answer: Who's to determine which habits are bad. People quit smoking, they gain weight, hypertension, heart problems, prescriptions, side effects, more pills, drug prob. At which point does it become a character defect, and cease to be just a habit. And I'll guarantee that the doctor and drug cos. will deny any wrong doing. OTOH, it's been my experience that people with no addictions or outstanding character flaws tend to be boring as h##l.
Question: How do I break my habit of curling my hand round my pen when I write? "It can be difficult for left-handed children to learn to write if the teacher does not take the student's left-handedness into account. When properly done, left-handed writing is a mirror image to that of the right-hander, making the teaching process confusing for the teacher (if right-handed) of a left-handed student. The result is that many left-handed people learn to write with their hand curled around the pen so that it can meet the paper at the same angle as the right hander, rather than simply tilt the paper the opposite way. Once this habit is formed, it is difficult to break. This curling of the hand results in the heel of the palm being placed behind the writing, forcing the writer to lift it off the paper and making the grip even more awkward. When the left hand is held correctly, it is below the writing, as is typical for right-handers."
I have thhis problem and I'm 15 years old, how can I break this habit?
Answer: I'm left-handed and I do exactly the same thing. I honestly don't think it's a big deal, unless you're handwriting is terrible. Get your friends - if you sit next/near them, in most classes, to tell you. If all else fails, try writing out lines with your mom or dad or guardian to tell you if you're curling your hand. Some people are just born that way, though.
I've heard you can get special "grips" (I used to have them). I guess they work for some people (although I wound up putting them in the trash in frustration). Try looking into them.
Question: How do you start a habit of brushing your teeth? I am very old now but I still don't have a habit of brushing my teeth, my teeth are in bad condition. I know that it is bad. But I found it really hard to start a habit. I feel tired and hate brushing my teeth. It takes a long time. In addition, should I use a electronic toothbrush or manual toothbrush? Which type of electronic toothbrush is better? How do you brush the side of your teeth facing your throat, it is really hard.
Answer: Start rewarding yourself whenever you brush.
Question: How can I change my bad habits? How long does it take to become a habit? I can't sit at my study table for quite a long time. But I can read novels and books for very long time (even without eating). I can be said a bright student. My grades are fairly high but I don't satisfy myself. At lecture time,I can concentrate and learn very well.Only because of that my grades are high. I want to study very much but I can't ,I can't control my bad habit. Please help me!
Answer: I've heard it takes approximately 28 days to break old habits and stick w/new habits. I'd suggest replacing a bad habit w/a good one every month. For example, instead of trying to sit and study one subject for long intervals, break subjects up into 15 - 20 minute intervals. Increasing subject time everyday until you get up to about an hour of study time per subject w/o interruption.
Question: My daughter is in habit of cutting nails with teeth. What measures should I take to stop this habit? My daughter is in the habit of cutting nails with her teeth. My wife has even beaten her ,so that she should stop this habit but in vain. Now small boils have appeared in her mouth. What remedial measures should be taken to stop this habit?
Answer: First you should stop beating your daughter. The nail biting and mouth sores are not related.
Question: How to break the habit of picking at acne? My friend has bad acne and is constantly picking at it. I've told her many times that picking at it isn't gonna help, but she says it's a bad habit that she does involuntarily. How can i get her to stop?
Answer: I am 32 years old and I still pick my face. It's a really bad habit and I am better than I used to be. It's almost like it's a stress reliever or a nervous habit. When I am nervous I will fiddle with a scab or spot on my face until it starts bleeding. When I am stressed out I'll look in the mirror and have a go at my face. I guess it's just like biting your nails or gritting your teeth.
The best way to help her is to treat the acne if possible. The less acne she has the less she will pick. I am guessing this a nervous habit of hers so if you see she is nervous keep her hands busy. I really don't know what else to say because I haven't been able to stop myself. I don't have terrible scarring but it's because I never had severe acne.
The idea above about keeping very short nails is a very good idea.
Question: Why is it bad to stop a habit immediately? People usually advise you to stop a habit gradually. Why can't you jump in and just stop right then and there? I understand everything takes time but it is possible to completing cut off a habit if you just jump in and stop it immediately.
Answer: A habit doesn't just start all of a sudden. It is like a thread wound round and round your fingers. One or two is easy to break, but more...not so easy. So you'll have to unwind it like a thread again. One day at a time.
It takes 21 days to break a habit, just focus consciously on it, and tell yourself "No!" every time you want to do it. Sometimes you have to be a parent to yourself.
Question: What is an easy way to break a bad habit? I'll admit, everyone has bad habits, from biting their nails, to picking their nose. But how can we stop these bad habits? Can we use self motivation? What is a good way to break a habit?
Answer: As soon as you catch yourself doing a bad habit, change it over to a new healthy habit.
If you bite your nails, instead wash your hands. If you pick your nose, instead use a tissue (carry one with you where ever you go).
Replacing bad habits with good ones once you catch yourself will help in changing it.
Question: How can I get out of the habit of biting my nails? I have a bad habit of biting my nails. Sometimes I bite the skin underneath too and it peels. How can I get out of this habit. I cant wear fake nails or band-aids because I play guitar. Thank you.
I have tryed the bad taste thing. I have a strong tongue. You make me taste poop and i wouldnt care.
Answer: well the trick is to tell yourelf you honestly want to stop
make yourself a little chart with the 7 days of the week on them.
for each day, make two collums and make one of the collums heading, "good and one "bad. say for egsample on monday you bite your nails 8 times then in bad you write 8.
in monday, if you about to bite them say 5 times but then dont, then you write 5 in good.
at the end of the day if you have more goods than bads, you have accomplished it. keep going like this untill you finally stop.
worked for my friend and this was exactly how she did it, and now she has the best nails in the world!!
hope i helped
Question: How do I get out of the habit of having a drink in the evenings? Both my partner and I enjoy a beer or 2 most evenings and I want to break this habit. After years of this habit I am finder it harder than I thought it would be and after a few nights I crave a drink! Any suggestions?
Answer: I too have the same problem.. I get off work early since I go in early.. I'm home most days by 1400. I've set up a rule (that I infrequently follow) of no beer untill 1600.. By then I normally have two. You have to make something else (water, juice, etc) as readily available when you get home.. Make the beer harder to get to, hide it behind the milk or something.
Question: How to break the habit of going to sleep with the TV? I've done this for years and if I don't have the TV I end up lying there awake for hours. Somehow the TV distracts my mind from replaying and evaluating every moment of my day or, even worse, imagining all kinds of ridiculous and horrible things (who knew I'd still be afraid of monsters at 28?)
The big problem is that it keeps my husband from falling or staying asleep. If I were alone, I'd be content to continue with the TV, but he shouldn't have to suffer my bad habit.
Any suggestions? We do have a sleep-timer, but I'd like to one day be able to turn the lights off and go to sleep in the quiet darkness.
Answer: put on a night light towards your side of the bed and listen to soft music
like on a ipod or something so that you yourself can hear the music and not your husband
Question: How to break the habit of picking nails? I pick my nails, and I've done it for a long time. I know it's grose, but I need help breaking the habit. I want to grow out my nails SO badly!
Answer: I used to do it almost neurotically.
I stopped doing it after i had acrylic nails put on.
I don't know why, but that worked for me.
Maybe you could try getting nail tips or solar nails, or whatever product they're using these days and see if it works for you. The thickness of the fake nail makes it more difficult to "pick".
Question: How can I break the habit of biting my nails? I really want to let my nails grow out, but I'm constantly biting them. What is a good way to break this habit?
Answer: Carry a nail file at all times. I find that I bite a tiny bit then my nail is bumpy on the end and I'll bite it untill it's straight and smooth... which end sup being really short, if you have a file then when it happens you can sort it quickly.
Also try to keep pretty paint on your nails... sometimes that stops me because I dont want to ruin it.
Acrylic is an option because you cant bite your nails then.. but they do ruin your nails underneith.
My beauty teacher told us biting your nails is worse than licking a toilet seat, so think of that everytime you do it! lol
