Hay Fever
Question: hay fever? can you get headaches from hay fever?
Answer: I've had hay fever my whole life and it never caused me headaches. Having said that though, it messes up your sinuses so much it would not surprise me if some people got headaches.
On the other hand there are plenty of medications whose side effects are headache. If you are taking something OTC that could be the reason for them.
Question: Hay Fever.? Is it possible to get hay fever at this time of year.Think I've got it.Must have because I have Antihistamines and it goes away when I take them.I have always associated hay fever with the earlier months of the year.
Answer: It is. I've suffered from hay fever for many years, quite badly too. I have the symptoms for half the year (April - September) with it being worse in and around June.
The main pollen that 90% of hay fever sufferers are sensitive too is grass pollen with most sufferers exclusively allergic to this pollen. Some sufferers (15-20%) are also allergic to certain tree pollens. These different pollens are airborne at different times of the year for different periods so you may suffer at different times of the year to someone else with hay fever.
Bottom line is, as long as the grass grows, no one with hay fever is safe!
Question: What are the dates of the ragweed hay fever season in New York City? A former NY resident, I relocated many years ago, to a place where I'm no longer bothered by hay fever. I'm now planning to return for vacation, but I can't recall the dates of the fall ragweed season, which I need to avoid. I also have a lesser allergy to timothy pollen, so those dates are of interest too.
Answer: the usual peak dispersal period for Ragweed is mid-August to mid-September
Question: Can anyone recommend friendly plants for a hay fever sufferer? We have a lovely large garden in France (where we live) and once a year family come to visit, but our poor niece suffers terribly from hay fever, so cannot get much pleasure from being here!
My husband is keen to create a "friendly" garden especially for her, but cannot find the information anywhere, but knows there are some.
Can anyone help?

Question: Will hay fever prevent me from becoming a pilot? Hey guys, yesterday i received some quite damaging news. Im not allowed to serve in the RAF as a pilot, whether it be transport or front-line jets, as I suffer from hay fever around June. I was wondering is it a similar case for the civilian world. Also, if you could suggest another route in to flying, or even a route into the civilian world of flying if the hay fever wouldn't be an issue. Finally, going back to the RAF, as I cant become a pilot, would any of you guys suggest becoming an aircraft engineer or air traffic controller with them? Cheers.
Answer: Whilst it is true that you are unable to be a pilot in the RAF with hay-fever, it shouldn't restrict you at all from gaining a civilian licence.
You can find full medical requirements for the civilian medical certificates on the CAA website (see link).
Question: What is the best way to help hay fever without medicine ? i am 14 years old and i have really bad hay fever and i would like to know some tips on how to prevent hay fever without using any medicine. I have try ed every medicine there is to offer for hay fever but none of them seem to work. I am going to the doctor in a week or so to get a prescription for a stronger medicine but in the mean time i would like some tips on how to reduce the symptoms of hay fever. If i get some good answers that would be great thanks.
Answer: Drinking water helps, if you have some eucalyptus oil or vick's then breathing in the vapor through the nose can alleviate some of the congestion (don't drink it or anything it's toxic).
Question: How do you get rid of hay fever and a really severe form of exercise asthma? my hay fever is throughout the year and i have totally had it. my asthma i've had for 12 years it hurts to do some stuff for p.e. that i don't like but i have to do anyway in order to get a good grade.
i also take zyrtec and flonase. my inhaler isn't strong enough. i take my inhaler to class too. they said i might have to get a steam mask but that thing is too heavy to take to school.
Answer: Asthma is usually improved by regular exercise. But you have to plan for it. Use the inhaler right before PE class starts, even if you don't have an attack yet. Take it with you so you can use it again at the first sign of chest tightness.
Ask your doctor if there isn't something else s/he can give you such as a brief course of steroid inhaler until your asthma cools down a little bit.
Do you take something like claritin every day? If you have hay fever every day then you should. Ask your doc which one it should be, and get a nasal wash such as "Simply Saline" to keep your sinuses from getting infected because of the drying effect of antihistamines. Befriend the steam room of your local gym also. Ask mom to take you in because you might have an attack in there. Best to go with someone who can help if..
If you feel best right after your shower, consider investing in a Vicks personal steamer or just learn the trick of "steaming your head" over a pot of hot water or tea. This is very helpful in the winter when the humidity level drops.
Put a few drops of eucalyptus oil on a handkerchief and sniff it. Wierd, but it works.
Question: Will hay fever stop me from becoming a pilot? Hey guys, yesterday i received some quite damaging news. Im not allowed to serve in the RAF as a pilot, whether it be transport or front-line jets, as I suffer from hay fever around June. I was wondering is it a similar case for the civilian world. Also, if you could suggest another route in to flying, or even a route into the civilian world of flying if the hay fever wouldn't be an issue. Finally, going back to the RAF, as I cant become a pilot, would any of you guys suggest becoming an aircraft engineer or air traffic controller with them? Cheers.
Answer: I'm an aircraft engineer in the RAF, depends whether you want to be an officer or not. Officers don't do much hands on nor do they work that much on flying squadrons, as JENGOs, they tend to work in HQ's, IPTs(they run aircraft by type) but you don't get to work on them, you also run second line component repair bays. As an airman you get to work hands on the aircraft. No idea about ATCOs sorry. I also think you wouldn't be able to work as a civilian pilot I think it's to do with if you need to don O2 masks.
Question: What is the best home treatment for hay fever beside taking medicine? I have been suffering from hay fever allergy. However, everytime when I take the medicine, there are some side effects on me. Is there any traditional home or food treatment I can do to make my hay fever better?
Answer: I hate it when people just copy and paste information from websites, but I found a pretty good one for you. I know how it feels when medicine has side effects. You feel crappy as it is but then... well, yeah. So here's a link. It talks about the different allergens that my be causing your reactions (ex. outdoor, indoor, etc.) and how to help with them.

Question: What good natural hay fever remedies are there? My Fiance suffers from hay fever, she takes a spray for it but it's still really bad. What else can she do?
Answer: It is hard to pinpoint the exact cause of respiratory allergies, however, heredity does seem to play a role, as do environmental factors. Some evidence suggests that those who were breastfed as babies are less likely than those who were bottle fed to develop allergies.
Symptoms of hay fever are partly a result of inflammation that, in turn, is activated by the immune system. Because of this, a properly functioning immune system is crucial in the treatment of seasonal allergies.

There are also some homeopathic remedies that are very helpful on relieving symptoms of hay fever.
Homeopathic Treatment for Hay Fever:
Allium cepa: Indications for this remedy include watery eyes and a clear nasal discharge that irritates the upper lip, along with sneezing and a tickling cough. The person usually is thirsty, and feels worse indoors and when rooms are warm, and better in fresh air.
Arsenicum album: A burning, watery, runny nose with a stuffy, tickling feeling during allergy attacks suggests a need for this remedy. Swelling below the eyes and a wheezy cough are common. The person may feel chilly, restless, anxious, and is often very tired.
Euphrasia: This remedy can be helpful if the eyes are swollen and irritated with acrid tears or pus. The nose also runs, but with a blander discharge. Symptoms are often worse in the daytime and worse from warmth, and the eyes may hurt from too much light. The person can also have a cough in the daytime, which improves at night.
Ferrum phosphoricum: This is a very useful remedy in the early stages of any inflammation. Taken when allergy symptoms start, it often slows or stops an episode. Symptoms include runny eyes with a burning or gritty feeling, facial flushing, watery nose, and short, hard, tickling cough.
Gelsemium: A tired, droopy feeling during allergies with a flushed and heavy-feeling face suggest a need for this remedy. A sensation of dryness or of swollen membranes may be felt inside the nose—or the nose may run with irritating watery discharge, with the person sneezing frequently. Aching in the back of the head and neck, a trembling feeling, and chills along the spine are often seen when a person needs Gelsemium.
Natrum muriaticum: Allergy attacks with sneezing, watery eyes, clear nasal discharge that resembles egg white, and a loss of taste and smell will all suggest a need for this remedy. The person may have dark circles under the eyes, be thirsty, feel withdrawn and sad, and act irritable if comforted.
Nux vomica: If the nose is alternately stuffed up (especially outdoors or at night) and running (indoors and in the daytime), this remedy may bring relief. Other symptoms include a teasing cough, a scraped or tickly feeling in the throat, and headache. A person who needs this remedy often feels impatient, irritable, and chilly.
Sabadilla: Long paroxysms of sneezing, itching in the nose with irritating runny discharge, a feeling of a lump in the throat, and watery eyes will all suggest a need for this remedy. The person may feel nervous during allergy attacks, and trying to concentrate can bring on drowsiness or headache.
Wyethia: Intolerable itching felt on the roof of the mouth and behind the nose—sometimes extending into the throat and ears—strongly suggests the use of this remedy. Everything in the person’s head feels dry and irritated, but the nose may still be runny.
