Health Condition
Question: What will insurance cover with a preexisting health condition and new pregnancy? I have a preexisting health condition (Graves Disease) and might be pregnant. What will my carrier cover and how do I find out? Will I need a lawyer to help me sort it out with them?
Answer: You will have to call your insurance company and find out what they cover.
You don't need a lawyer, to find out what they cover. That's a waste of your money. All you have to do is call them.
There are thousands of different plans out there, so no one here could possibly guess what YOUR plan covers.

My cousins always seem to be sick, just seem unwell quite often.
There are no disadvantages to vaccinating your kids. I believe it to be un responsible.

Question: If I tell a military recruiter a health condition I have, will he tell it to other people? If I tell a military recruiter a health problem/condition I have, will they tell it to other military recruiters so that I'm not able to join the military if the health condition is too serious? Will they put it on my record? Will they keep it confidential?
Answer: He will only tell the people who need to know. That would be anyone who would be involved in actually processing your paperwork as it relates to your medical condition. They do pass on some information to the people who have a valid reason to know.
They are not allowed to tell confidential information about you to just anyone who wants to know.
If they deny you enlistment then there will be a record of that and if you try to enlist again somewhere else they may find out that you were denied entry. They keep it on file somewhere in an archive and I believe it is nationally located.
Most recruiters are professional. They have plenty of very personal information about individuals including medical, financial, criminal, and other stuff that they have use to help people enlist. They are not supposed to tell that stuff to other people who don't need to know. They would lose their jobs and very likely receive disciplinary action if they went around telling personal stuff.
Recruiters sometimes do talk to each other. Even so they have to be careful and stay professional about what type of info that they share. Most will ask your permission before hand.

Question: Would you ever date someone w/ a chronic health condition? Would you ever date someone w/ a chronic health condition that: puts them in the hospital frequently, and could possibly mean they will die at a young age? Why or why not?
Answer: It depends on whether you are willing to accept losing that person and if you will stick through and stay by the persons side through good times and bad. If yes, then go for it. If not, I wouldn't engage in a serious relationship.
Question: Is scoliosis considered an 'underlying health condition'? I have scoliosis and had an operation for it last year in Aug 2008. Am I considered to have an 'underlying health condition'? And will I be affected really badly by swine flu because of this?
Answer: In the context of receiving a vaccination, underlying health condition generally means something that makes your immune system weaker than most peoples. That would be things like cancer, HIV, corticosteroid use, diabetes, etc.
I don't believe scoliosis would be in this category.
Question: health condition? my friend is 35, he is always falling asleep regularly anywhere, he has been in 3 car accidents because of this,
Any time when he gets excited or enraged, he suddenly becomes weak and collapses, at night he often has bizarre dreams, where he feels as if he were paralyzed.
Is this some kind of disease or a conditon?
please help
Answer: Yes, he has a disease process called Narcolepsy it's a condition that causes patients to fall asleep uncontrollably throughout the day for periods lasting less than a minute to more than half an hour. These sleep attacks can occur at anytime, even while the person is engaged in an activity. During sleep, narcoleptics have an abnormal sleep pattern: They enter REM sleep prematurely without going through the normal sequence of sleep stages.
Narcolepsy usually is a genetic (inherited) disorder, although it may be associated with brain damage or neurological disease. The condition usually develops between the ages of 15 and 30. Some people with narcolepsy experience increased sleep attacks during pregnancy, illness, fever, or stressful periods. Patients with narcolepsy often feel tired most of the time. Other symptoms of the condition include cataplexy, sleep paralysis, and hypnagogic hallucinations.
Cataplexy is weakness or paralysis of the muscles. In narcoleptic patients, it may be triggered by tiredness and intense emotions and may be accompanied by short, sudden episodes of laughter or anger. When cataplexy occurs, persons who are standing may fall down.
Sleep paralysis is the inability to move the arms, legs, or entire body that occurs when a person is falling asleep or waking up. It usually lasts a very brief period of time. People who experience sleep paralysis may become very anxious and often regain movement only if they hear a loud noise or another stimulus.
Hypnagogic hallucinations or pre-sleep dreams, are dream-like hallucinations that occur in the transition between being awake and being asleep. Often, they are very vivid, frightening dreams. Get him in to see his doctor right away before he does anymore driving. There are effective treatments for this condition. Otherwise, he will kill himself or kill an innocent person. The DMV will take his license away.
Question: What is a bad health condition that is hardly ever taken seriously? We all know about obesity, smoking, drugs, etc, but what are some serious health conditions that havent been advertised as much as them?
Answer: I'm guessing you're looking for female problems because of where you posted the question.
Endometriosis isn't taken seriously by many doctors. Mainly because they're male, and can't comprehend the extent of pain it causes to women. It's frustrating to lots of women who are in terrible pain, because doctors can make them feel like their pain is all made up, or like they're trying to get strong medication for recreational purposes. It's the worst feeling ever - then when you finally find a doctor who listens to you and helps, you start to feel like maybe you weren't crazy after all!
Question: if you have a pre existing condition, but get a job that gives you health insurance, can the insurance deny u? because of the pre existing condition, or are they required to take you because it's through your job?
i've been denied by every health insurance i've applied to because of a small pre existing health condition, and am desperate for coverage.
so what is this? if you have a pre existing condition, they won't treat it, and you're just expected to let yourself die from it?
Answer: As previously mentioned, if you have a pre-existing condition you likely won't get coverage for anything that might be related to that condition. They may not decline you altogether, they may just deny one specific claim (depends on the condition).
As far as your additional details, one thing you need to understand: They will still treat you if you have a pre-existing condition, but you just have to front the money, rather than having an insurance company pay for it. No one is especting you to just let yourself die, they are just expecting you to pay for the treatments.
Question: Do you have a chronic health condition & are you happy with your health care plan? Or does anyone you know have a chronic health condition and are they happy with their insurance?
Answer: At a certain age, everybody has a chronic health condition. I am being medicated for just a couple of things, as I am pretty lucky. My partner is not so lucky and has numerous chronic conditions, some of them serious. She would not have insurance at all, except that my employer allows domestic partner coverage as family. (Note: I have to pay taxes on this coverage as income, since the lousy federal government and its religious fanatics doesn't recognize domestic partners.)
The insurance, Aetna, is sort of OK. They fight with you over everything. They fight with the doctor over everything. Their out-of-network coverage pays only what they think are "reasonable and customary" rates, so they barely cover New York doctors. The co-pay on drugs is higher each year and can be as high as $125 for something new. And it is a pain in the neck for us and for the doctors, who have to employ lots of clerical help to manage all the paperwork.
Our OBGYN stopped taking any insurance and is now all out-of-network, so she only needs one assistant who can also be a technician.
We have dental insurance, which is pretty good. Oral care is still pretty expensive.
I would rather have single-payer, really, and so would most of the doctors. Then they could get back to doctoring instead of managing a bunch of clerks.
Anyone I know who is on Medicare seems pretty OK with it, except for the drug part with the doughnut hole, which is just cruel.
And everyone should have some basic form of dental care.
I am not convinced that insurance confers any benefits to anyone except insurance companies. Doctors and dentists should be on salary like the rest of us. I work very hard but I don't get more pay if I process more of the things I do, or if I make up things to do. I am motivated by pride in my work and an understanding of how it fits into the whole picture. So are doctors and dentists.
Question: Health Condition.? Im 17 n im very small like 103 pounds. people say im small for my age. sometimes i get dizzy and i have headaches if i dont eat til the afternoon i become VERY sick like im goin to pass out. its not that im starving myself. It just be the fact that i dont usually get hungry in the morning, let along the rest of the day. My Parents say i might be hypertesion. What do you think?
Answer: When I was a teenager, I was diagnosed with Hypoglycemia. Basically, low blood sugar. If I didn't eat a little snack every 2 hours, I got dizzy and faint and light headed and kinda nauseated. If I ignored it and physically exerted myself, I would pass out. I passed out three times from this!
Now I've learned how to control it. I know the signs and symptoms, and when I start to feel light headed I make sure I have something like a couple cheese and crackers or an apple or a Kudos bar. Just something small and healthy to give my body some more energy.
I had to go through what's called a glucose test to be diagnosed with it. Next time you see your doc, describe your symptoms and ask about a glucose test. If it's kinda bad and you can't wait until then, see if you can schedule an appointment to come in sooner.
Hope that helps!
Oh, they also sell Glucose Tablets at most pharmacies. They're little orange candy-like tablets that help give your body a glucose boost if there's no food around. I keep them in my purse for emergencies.
Question: Can an employer vary the wait period for benefits because of a preexisting health condition? My new employer to be has previously doubled the wait for insurance to someone with the same preexisting health condition I have.
Answer: I agree with what mbrcatz said.
It can't vary from employee to employee in the same classification in the same year.
However, they can make a change from one plan year to another. That change would have to uniformly apply to all employees in the same classification though.
Question: Health Condition Has Caused Me to become Depressed and Scared? I have had a health condition for over 3 months now and i keep going to different doctors with no success. It is a constant loud thumping in my ear that hasn't been diagnosed. I haven't given up and will go to different doctors again but i have become really depressed. This has to be the worst time in my life and i am just extremely sad, scared, and restless. Please let me know what I can do, and what you have done to deal with something like this..
Answer: I resonate totally with your predicament.
I have a health condition too that no one - literally no one- understands (not even my family). I have gone to so many doctors and spending a whole lot of money because of my stupid non-existent insurance scheme.
It's the worst time of my life too.
And for me, my condition is really noticable AND painful, not to mention potentially dangerous - I get a lot of tics of my neck. My actual condition I'd rather not go into detail here,- suffice to say I have toritcollis caused by a congenital hemivertebra in my neck. No doctor has made me feel confident that they know what's wrong with me and know how to treat it best. I've even tried chiropractic. I got prescribed with a wrong prescription drug which thankfully I never took... the list of crazy stuff is endless.
And even now, after spending so much, there has been practically no progress.
And now I constantly think - which other doctor should I consult? Am I willing to go through the whole rigmarole of explaining my condition and feeling just to have them mis-diagnose or not diagnose me at all? Worse still, how long will it take?
Believe me, I know the scared feeling of not knowing what's wrong. When I got diagnosed, it was such a relief. I hope you get the same feeling too, soon. Just believe that there's a logical reason to this. You just haven't found it yet. Go to other doctors, get them to go X-rays, other scans if they haven't yet.
In my case, there's still a long way to cure my issue, and no doctor seems to be doing that right now.
I hope you do find out what's wrong. Either way, you're not alone. Big virtual hug going your way. Try looking up your symptoms on the internet. Maybe you will get something. Meanwhile.. hang in there.
You'll be fine. Be strong. Repeat it to yourself. You are living through this. That takes a lot of courage, I should know. You have been to so many different doctors. You are doing the best you can. Stay strong!
Question: Can you think of a short term health condition that a child may have? Oh yeah, and it has to be something that enables me to write about diagnosis, treatment etc.
Please help...its for an assignment! I've written about a long term condition for an older person, but now I need a short term health condition for a child! I thought about influenza, but you cant exactly be diagnosed for it lol.
Please help!
Thanks in advance x
Answer: Chickenpox is a good one as someone mentioned. But you can diagnose influenza. They swab your nasal passages and can tell you if its flu and even which strain you have, A or B.
You can also do croup, fifth's disease, mumps, measles, rubella. You can do otitis media (ear infection). Another one is meningitis, which is very interesting.
