Healthy Foods
Question: Healthy foods? I'm dedicated myself to eating healthier foods. I am also going grocery shopping this weekend and need a grocery list of healthy foods to buy. Please provide healthy suggestions and maybe some recipes---thanks!
Thanks for all of the wonderful suggestions so far!
Answer: The obvious any fruit and veggie
Lean meats such as chicken and turkey
Whole grain breads and crackers
Yogurt
Whole grain cereals
Organic Peanut butter
Bagged salad greens are easy
Low/No fat dressings
Low fat cheeses
Oatmeal
Eggs
Olive Oil -perfect for sauteing chicken or drizzle on some veggies
Garlic
Tomato sauce-add some lean ground beef and Italian seasonings, a bit of paste, a dash or two of sugar and have spaghetti
Nuts, espically almonds
Prepare for your sweet tooth, get sugar free jello and pudding or sherbert.
You can do so much withe boneless skinless chicken breast
Boneless/skinless chicken breast are easy and versatile.
You can cook them in a skillet with olive oil and garlic and serve with a side of pasta or rice and steamed veggies.
You can dice them up, cook in the oil and garlic, when the pink is gone throw in any veggies you like (I love mushrooms and broccoli) in the meantime prepare some pasta (al dente) drain and add to the skillet and toss and heat through. You can add a jar of Al Fredo sauce if you prefer, I love just the oil and garlic, use garlic salt or powder if you prefer.
You can dice them up or cut into strips and add some taco of fajita seasoning, serve on tortillas with your favorite toppings.
Cooked diced up and add to some rice with a can or two of Cream of Chicken (or whatever) soup.
Cook in a skillet whole and add BBQ sauce, serve with baked taters.
You can serve them on buns.
You can coat them with breadcrumbs and serve with mashed taters or on buns with fries or onion rings.
Grill outside with veggie Kabobs, better yet cut into chunks, marinate and make chicken and veggie kabobs.
You can get a great deal on boneless/skinless breast if you buy them frozen in the bags in the frozen meat section.
Question: healthy foods? healthy foods for my project.Where can i find it?
Answer: The supermarket.
Question: What are some healthy foods/recipes that are easy to make? My boyfriend has high blood pressure and is 40 pounds over weight for his age, only 19 years old. He eats very unhealthy foods, like fast food every day. I want to help him change that, and get healthy. By doing so, im willing to make him food everyday that is good for him, but im not to sure of anything that is healthy, yet still tastes good to eat. Please send me recipes or just ideas of what I could make him. Thanks =]
Answer: There are lots of options to be healthy, but remember to include some good fats and flavor in your recipies because otherwise he won't want to stick to his new diet and will end up binging. Not good. Also, no frying (!) and the less butter or oil you use the better.
Any kind of chicken or fish broiled or grilled (with creative seasonings to change it up) is great paired with fresh steamed veggies w/ salt and pepper. sounds boring but it's great if you spice it up with herbs, light cheeses, lemon zest, etc., you can have different flavors all the time.
Get light italian dressing and drizzle over sliced tomatoes, cucumbers and low fat feta cheese for a side dish.
My favorite snack right now is baby carrots with hummus (roasted red pepper flavor) and it's awesome. filling and flavorful and light on calories. If ever in doubt, wrap your favorite salad, easy on dressing, in a pita or something.
These are only ideas, nothing fancy, but hopefully it helps!
Question: What are some good healthy foods that actually taste good? I would like to start eating more healthily and in order to do so I must start eating more vegitables and healthy foods. However, I don't like them at all. Can any one suggest some good healthy foods that you think taste good?
Answer: try combining them ... apple slices with a little cheese , baby carrots and a little low fat ranch dressing , cucumber slices with tomatoes and a bit of italian dressing (add a bit of purple onion if you like). it's really best with a little olive oil and vinegar and a touch of garlic salt and parsley but bottled italian dressing is fine too. easy of the cheese, dresssings it's just to add a little flavor to it. add spinach, mushrooms, green or red pepper to your omellette . add a bit of shredded carrot to your meatloaf , or throw some in your speghetti sauce. experiment with some of the oriental vegetables / stir fry them / bok choy and the cabbages / baby pea pods are excellent. chinese brocolli is good. for sweets think fruits . any fruit is great with a little cottage cheese or vanilla yogurt. mandarin oranges, peaches, pineapple, mango, nectarines. popcorn is a good healthy snack.
Question: What healthy foods do you like to prepare in advance? I love brown rice with veggies and tahini sauce thrown in, and hard boiled eggs, but I'm looking for more quick and healthy foods that I could make in large amounts to have on hand for the week. Thanks!
Answer: Are you looking for easy to grab foods to use as snacks, or entire meals?
These are items I keep handy (I have lost 20 lbs)
If its snacks:
1. keep a few carrots, celery and brocolli in a dish that you can snack on with ranch dressing.
2. deviled eggs, or just hard boiled
3. fruits, I love mango's, and pineapples, sliced apples and bananas. Having them already peeled, cored, & sliced.
4. waldorf salad (it has apples and celery and pecans in it) so you know its good for you.
5. Keep peanut butter on hand, its good on celery and apples, and its good for you.
If it meals: these are a few of my favorites
1. fish (like tuna salad) is healthy
2. Broccoli w/ rice
3. salads with Lettuce, carrots, celery, broccoli, sprouts, sunflower seeds, cheese (you can keep each item seperate so you can eat it as a salad or dip them as a snack)
Hope these help:
PS
Granola is a great healthy snack:
4 cups rolled oats
1 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
1/4 cup chopped walnuts, peanuts, almonds, or pecans
1 cup honey
1/2 cup oil
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the first 4 ingredients.
In a 2-quart saucepan, heat the honey, oil and vanilla until syrupy.
Add to the dry ingredients and mix well.
Spread on a jellyroll pan.
Bake for 20 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes.
Store in a covered container.
variations:
add one or more of these
1 cup coconut, 1/2 cup any dried fruits (apples, cranberries, raisins)
and you can omit the wheat germ (if you don't have any on hand)
Question: What are some healthy foods a pregnant person should eat? My girlfriend is 12 weeks pregnant and hasn't really been eating healthy enough. What kind of foods should we buy that is really healthy and good for the baby and her?
Answer: just lots of fruits instead of juice. lots of water. protein, grains, etc...
Question: What are some healthy foods to eat for breakfast? I have this problem every morning, where I have time to buy something before work and their are too many unhealthy choices. By the way, I'm at a healthy weight, maybe a little on the thin side, so if you know any foods that are healthy but might cause a liitle weight gain, that is ok.
Answer: Fruit, whole grain cereals, breads, muffins and waffles, omelettes, low-fat yogurt.
Question: What are some healthy foods for pomeranians? My mom loves the family dog to death... But the thing is, i'm scared that he won't last very long. Why? Because my mom always feeds him human food like... 80% of the time.
Can anyone tell me any healthy foods that poms can eat? And what they CAN'T eat?
Answer: I have a yorkie and a pitbull and the only human food they get is boneless/skinless boiled chicken breast with no seasoning and rice. They eat Blue Buffalo dog food.
Here is a list of good/bad foods: I hope it helps!!!
Grapes and Raisins: Grapes and raisins can cause kidney failure in dogs. As little as a single serving of raisins can kill a dog
Onions: Onions destroy red blood cells and can cause anemia.
Chocolate: Chocolate can cause seizures, coma and death. Baker’s chocolate is the most dangerous. A dog can consume milk chocolate and appear to be fine because it is not as concentrated, but it is still dangerous.
Coffee, Coffee grounds, tea and tea bags: Drinks/foods containing caffeine cause many of the same symptoms chocolate causes
Macadamia Nuts: Macadamia nuts can cause weakness, muscle tremor and paralysis.
Animal fat and fried foods: Excessive fat can cause pancreatitis.
Bones: Bones can splinter and damage a dog’s internal organs.
Tomatoes: Tomatoes can cause tremors and heart arrhythmias. Tomato plants are the most toxic, but tomatoes themselves are also unsafe.
Avocados: The fruit, pit and plant are all toxic. They can cause difficulty breathing and fluid accumulation in the chest, abdomen and heart
Nutmeg: Nutmeg can cause tremors, seizures and death
Apples, Cherries, Peaches and similar fruit: The seeds of these fruits contain cyanide, which is poisonous to dogs as well as humans. Unlike humans, dogs do not know to stop eating at the core/pit and easily ingest them.
Raw eggs: Raw eggs can cause salmonella poisoning in dogs. Dogs have a shorter digestive tract than humans and are not as likely to suffer from food poisoning, but it is still possible.
Salt: Excessive salt intake can cause kidney problems.
Food that most dogs can eat:
Some “human” foods are good for dogs. Most of these are healthier than the boxed treats you buy in the grocery store. . This is just a small list of examples of foods dogs can eat, not a list of every food they should eat. Dogs won’t necessarily get all the nutrients they need if they eat these foods exclusively, so check with your veterinarian if you are interested in feeding your dog a home cooked diet.
Any food that causes stomach upsets or digestive problems in your dogs should be avoided. Like people, some dogs cannot tolerate certain foods
Meats:
Meats should be boneless and it’s best if the skin is removed. I don’t consider raw meat a good idea because of the small risk of food poisoning and parasites.
Skinless, boneless chicken breast
Skinless, boneless turkey breast
Boneless fish
Vegetables:
Dogs have shorter digestive tracts than humans and cannot digest most vegetables whole or in large chunks. It’s best to put them through a food processor before giving them to your dog
Carrots
Green Beans
Lettuce
Potatoes
Yams
Grains:
Grains should not be given in large amounts or make up a large part of a dog’s diet, but these foods are generally safe in small amounts
Rice
Bread
Dairy products
Use caution with dairy products as they are high in fat and can cause pancreatitis, gas and diarrhea. Usually, nonfat plain yogurt is safe in small amounts
Question: What are some healthy foods or health food products good for oral health? Not necessarily looking for a natural remedy for a toothache or anything specific, just wondering if there's any supplements or even foods that promote good oral health, healthy teeth, etc?
Answer: Good oral health requires adequate calcium in your diet, and many people don't get enough. So try to include low-fat milk, yogurt, etc. Also, calcium is absorbed much more readily if you are also getting plenty of vitamin D, so you want to make sure that you are getting that as well.
But mostly, oral health depends on keeping stuff *away* from your teeth. Acidic drinks (orange juice, sodas, etc.) and food particles are the enemy of good oral health. Hardly anyone brushes for long enough (at least two full minutes, and at least twice a day), and not enough people floss every day. If you do both of those things, that's more important than any supplement you could take.
Question: What are some healthy non-perishable foods I can bring to eat at work? I do shift work and so I don't really get a break for meals at my customary times.

Question: What are some good healthy foods that you can eat to gain weight? I am looking to gain 5 or so pounds, and I do like to eat healthy. What are some healthy foods I can eat with to help me gain weight? I prefer that they are low sugar.
Answer: Mashed potatoes with butter, olives on salad or pizza have good fats. Macaroni and cheese, lasagna with lots of cheese.
Question: What are some cheap healthy foods and recipes to make and eat? I need to lose weight but I cannot afford "good healthy" foods. And fresh produce is very expensive. I am living on Ramen Noodles and mac + cheese and obviously they are not healthy. What cheap things can I make that dont cost a lot?
Answer: buying foods in bulk, and making foods in bulk, will reduce costs. also, grocery stores have sale items in the produce department, which if you're not a picky eater, can save you substantial bucks. sometimes frozen veggies are a great way to save money, plus they are picked at the height of ripeness. switch your carb eating to more complex ones, like whole wheat pasta or brown rice.
Question: What are some healthy foods help me gain weight while pregnant? High risk pregnancy very likely I will deliver a premie. Doctor wants me to gain as much weight as possible for the baby. What are some healthy foods that will help me and baby gain weight?
Answer: I suggest eating something every couple of hours, say every 2hours have a small meal and snack in between.
Cereal, rice, pasta, spaghetti, fruit, veg, meats, nuts, bread, fish and dairy products.
Bread and pasta will be your biggest weight gain as there are so much carbs in them.
Your baby won't gain weight with you eating alot, it'll only be you that gains the weight, your baby will take all the nutrients it needs and grow at the pace it's supposed too.
Edit - Protein doesn't turn to fat, your body uses it right away, your body takes a while to burn protein so it uses more energy to burn the protein therefore in the long run you actually loose weight eating alot of protein. Don't get me wrong, you need protein but eating too much will cause your body to loose weight rather than put it on.
Question: Ultra healthy food: What are some really healthy foods/meals to feed my two year old? I need some idea. I just want her to be very healthy and I have heard food is the first step. We try to do as much organic as we can. Any ideas on the food/meals I could make her? What are some foods with omega three and six?
Answer: The "eat food, not too much, mostly plants" advice is about as sound as it gets.
"Organic" does not really have any proven benefits,* and "all natural" is completely meaningless. Potato chips are all natural.
Nuts as already mentioned are great. Our on-the-go car etc snacks are often just mini zip-lock bags of different kinds of nuts.
My 2yo's favourite pasta is roughly: two cups whole wheat ditali pasta, a head of broccoli, diced and lightly steamed, two cups tomato sauce, a tub of cottage cheese, bit of mozzarella, baked.
Really, just keep it simple like that, and you can't go wrong. Don't overdo any one thing, make plants the primary focus.
Don't go overboard on omegas and other food fads -- wasn't that long ago that everybody was wild about oat bran, which was miraculously necessary, and then miraculously not so much. Science does not completely understand nutrients just yet.
* "Organic food has no nutritional or health benefits over ordinary food, according to a major study published Wednesday..."Our review indicates that there is currently no evidence to support the selection of organically over conventionally produced foods on the basis of nutritional superiority."" http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE56S3ZJ20090729
Question: What are some healthy foods that will give me a little extra energy? I'm trying to cut caffeine and sugar out of my diet, but without my morning Coke, I'm about ready to fall asleep by 10am. What sort of healthy foods can give me some energy.
Answer: Eat fruits especially berries. Other high energy powered food are nuts, beans, yogurts, eggs, energy bars, lean meat and so on. You can have occasional coffee without the sugar or cream if you are weight conscious. Your breakfast should contain some lean meat (protein), fruits (vitamins and minerals) and some milk (minerals). Do you know that meat contains zinc which is known to fight fatigue? So are berries will keep you hydrated and energized with its high water content. http://weightlossdietclub.com
Question: What are some healthy foods to eat when trying to lose weight that are affordable? I've noticed that healthy foods cost too much. And I live 30 minutes away from a grocery store so I can't keep going to buy produce every other day.
Answer: -Grilled chicken
-Steamed veggies
-Fruits (try to stay away from bananas)
-Tuna
-Hummus w/ vegetables
-Oatmeal
-Fish (steamed or grilled; never fried)
-100% WHEAT bread (Make sure it's 100%!!!!)
There's a list of just some of the healthier foods that I can think of off the top of my head. Don't limit yourself, though. You can eat just about anything if you watch your portions and stay away from the crap (junk/fast food/sodas).
Good luck
