Question: What are some healthy snacks you can make? I've been trying to lose weight by exercising but after i finish i tend to eat unhealthy snacks. Whenever i am hungry but don't feel like making a big meal I tend to eat chips or sweets. If anyone can give me some recipes on snacks to make that are healthy or tell me of some store bought healthy snacks it would really help me.FYI i am a teenager.
Answer: Look to your leftovers for some healthy snacks to make. Start with a whole wheat tortilla or pita. Fill pita halves, or fill and roll up tortillas, with leftover chili. You can add a little grated cheese for extra flavor as well as calcium. This filling snack can be heated up or eaten cold. Alternatively, you can fill a tortilla or pita with peanut butter and sliced banana. That is great to take on the go with you as it doesn't need to be kept cold.
You can also heat up a small serving of leftover mashed potatoes, pasta or rice and top with some heated chili or baked beans for a hot satisfying snack that's a perfect "mini meal" with a glass of milk. As an alternative to a baked potato stuffed with cheese and broccoli, you can just top your small serving of leftover mashed potatoes with leftover cooked broccoli and a little Parmesan and/or other cheese on top. When you heat this in a microwave or other oven, take care not to overcook the broccoli.
Cold healthy snacks to make and take with you include bran muffins and fruit salad. Bran muffins are a tasty way to get fiber and you can add what you like so that you can keep your allergies and food preferences in mind. Nuts and dried fruit are common additions to bran muffins. Fruit salad can be made with any combinations of fruit you enjoy. You can place the fruit salad into a container in the refrigerator the night before to take with you the next morning to enjoy as a snack later in the day. You don't have to use apples or bananas as they do tend to get brown and mushy, but you can choose other fruits that hold up well.
If you have a sweet tooth, you can still find healthy snacks to make that taste satisfying. Cinnamon and fruit make healthy substitutes for sugar and sweets. You can blend grapes into plain yogurt and sweeten with cinnamon for a great chilled, refreshing snack.

Question: What are some healthy snacks for kids with peanut allergies? My 5-year old just entered kindergarten this year. The teacher assigned dates for parents to bring a snack in for all the students. My snack day is next week and it has to be peanut-free due to the fact that there is a child in the class room that has a peanut allergy. I was surprised at how limited my ideas were upon reading labels saying that that particular food was processed somewhere where they also process peanuts. So my question is.. - veggies
- handful of almonds
- natural yogurt
- some whole grain, low-sodium and low-fat crackers with hummus
Enjoy!
Question: What are some healthy snacks to keep in my dorm room? I need some ideas of healthy snacks to get. I'm limited to refrigeration space so I need foods that don't require refrigeration. I have a pretty big sweet tooth for things like starbursts and gummies, but not so much with chocolate. Please give me some ideas of foods that will fulfill my cravings, but also be healthy.
Thanks in advance!
Answer: I like peanut butter or nutella (although skip the nutella if you don't like chocolate) and bananas.
You can keep jam out of the fridge without it going bad, also. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on whole grain bread is decently healthy.
Instant oatmeal with brown sugar packets are quick if you have access to a tea kettle or a microwave.
Yogurt covered raisins or yogurt covered pretzels would both be great.
To reiterate what other people have said, applesauce is a great sweet snack and in individual packets it doesn't require refrigeration.
Cans of tomato soup are also great to have on hand if you have a microwave. They're not super sweet, but you can add some (about two teaspoons per can) brown sugar to them to sweeten it up.
Question: What are some of your favorite healthy snacks? I am going to the store soon and I was wondering what are some good HEALTHY snacks? Possibly low-sodium if you could.
I like to buy low-fat yogurt and add natural strawberry granola. What about you guys?
Answer: I keep a supply of raw veggies & fruits, cleaned and chilled in the refrig for quick snacks. Try the old stand-bys carrot and celery sticks, cucumber slices, cherry tomatoes, orange wedges & grapes (grapes are good frozen too!) in the refrig to nibble on. Many vegetables that you normally eat cooked also make good snacks when eaten raw.
Raisins and other dried fruits make good snacks. Dried prunes are actually great for snacking, really sweet & chewy.... but you have to be carefull not to eat more then a few every day.
Question: What healthy snacks should I buy from the grocery store? So I started a diet a couple weeks ago and I haven't been eating enough calories with my meals and need some snacks so I can start at least eating 1,200 calories.
I love yogurt
rice cakes
fruit.
are Cheerios good?
what about some kind of nuts?
I just am sort of oblivious as to what snacks are healthy.
Any suggestions?
Answer: Nuts are one of the foods with the highest calories. They are good for you but if your trying to lose weight they defeat that purpose. In same amounts, nuts have more calories then milk chocolate.
I'd suggest fruit and vegetables like your eating right now to be the main source of snacks. I also think that smoothies are really good sometimes too. You could perhaps try making chinese fresh roles. It's chicken, vegetables, etc all wrapped up in rice paper. It's so good and really healthy. You could easily look up a recipe for them. They take about 10 minutes to make 4 of them. I suggest that you look into some asain cuisine because most of the stuff is very healthy and tastes amazing.
Cheerios taste a bit bland in my opinion. I eat them for breakfast sometimes but I guess they'd be an okay snack. You should try Special K Cinnamon. All of the girls in my family love that cereal and it was a lot of important vitamins and it is also low in calories.
Other then that, there are 100 calorie snacks in most grocery stores such as Chocolate covered pretzels, thinsations, cookies, peacfreans, etc that are a bit like junk food but in small calorie portions.
Hope I helped. :]
Question: What are some healthy snacks for a person trying to lose weight? It's hard to admit at this point, but I weigh 430 pounds. Today I started another weight loss plan, since my others haven't been successful. This morning I had a grapefruit and unsweetened tea for breakfast. For lunch I had a salad (no dressing) of carrots, spinach, tomatoes, and cucumbers, a grilled chicken breast, a banana, and water. Now that it's afternoon, I'm starting to feel hungry again. Does anyone know of any snacks I could eat that would be healthy, and maybe even filling? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
Answer: I hate to tell you this but from the sounds of your diet you are mostly likely going to be disappointed with this one as well. That is not enough food for your body and you are most likely messing up your metabolism even more. That is why you are feeling hungry already. It is essential to have lots of fibre, protein, good fats, complex carbs, and tons of water to spruce up your metabolism. You don't have to go hungry to lose weight. I think that is the biggest, most harmful diet myth of all out there.
Here is an example of a day's foods that should keep you feeling satisfied. This is based on the Glycemic Index diet.
Breakfast: 4 scrambled egg whites with choice of green veggies and 2-3 T. salsa; 1.5 kiwis or an orange. OR I cup of high fibre, low sugar cereal with 1 cup of skim milk and I cup of strawberries.
Snack: 3/4cup of fat free yogurt or medium apple or a high fibre bran wafer
Lunch: Salad with 2.5 cups of veggies, low fat italian dressing and 4 ounces of chicken. If you must you could have 1/2 whole wheat pita.
Snack: 1 oz walnuts or 2 med. plums
Supper: 4 ounces of white fish, chicken or turkey + 2.5 cups of veggies (no carrots, corn or potatos).
Snack: 1 small bag of low fat popcorn
Throughout the day drink 2-3 litres of water. You can have green tea and/or coffee with skim milk.
The foods on this diet are low glycemic index which means your body takes longer to process them and your blood sugar remains stable and reduces cravings. If it is not enough food you can increase the amount of veggies. There are programs out there that can monitor you (such as Simply for Life) and there are also books.
So to answer your question it really isn't about the snacks. It is about keeping your blood sugar stable throughout the day to reduce the feelings of hunger and reduce the cravings that can lead to bad choices. I have been doing this and most of the time it is too much food. Eating enough and eating the right things is basically the only surefire way to lose weight AND keep it off. Anything that deprives you only serves to mess up your metabolism and the weight and more will always come back.
Good luck.
