High Crime Rate
Question: What is a city in Canada with a high crime rate? I'm moving to Canada after I graduate, and I'm going to go into criminal justice, so I'm going to need a city with a pretty high crime rate, preferably answered by someone who lives there. Thanks in advance.
Okay, Saskatoon. Another question; would that need detectives, or do the crimes there just need cops? Because I'm going to be a detective.
Answer: Surprisingly enough, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan has the highest crime rate per capita of all the cities in the Canada.
If you plan on going into law, I suggest you start out in Toronto though.
Question: Why does Alaska have such a high crime rate? I saw somewhere that Alaska has a very high crime rate. I find that unusual because of where it's located and it's population size. I had a hypothesis that it was because of the large number of Native Americans and alcohol abuse, but I'm not sure. Any answers?
Answer: I find your assumptions about Alaska Natives and crime uneducated; and at the very least stereotypical, if not racist. All started on something? you saw somewhere? so you hypothesis?
Yes there are Native Alaskans in Alaska. Alcohol is a big problem in Alaska, for everyone: white, Alaskan, military, whatever it is a problem that can not be limited to one group. Location in some cases is the reason some people do not have access to full social and law enforcement services, not unusual for that situation to have potential for problems. There are lots of types of crime, and the rates for different types vary:
http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/akcrime.htm
Not to mention how HUGE the state is, so it also varies by location:
http://www.tongass-seis.net/media/tong_USA.html
so the statistics you see are for large diverse area.
"Alaska is the largest state in the United States in land area at 586,412 square miles (1,518,800 km2), over twice the size of Texas, the next largest state. Alaska is larger than all but 18 sovereign countries. Without Alaska, Brazil and Australia are larger than the United States.
Counting territorial waters, Alaska is larger than the combined area of the next three largest states: Texas, California, and Montana. It is also larger than the combined area of the 22 smallest U.S. states."
so I think you need to look at crime rates by type of crime and area to get a more accurate picture of what is really going on in the state.
Sadly domestic violence and alcohol do play a role in Alaska's high crime rate, but it is not limited to any one race. Nor is theft, property damage or any other crime.
And the location and population size may also be a contributing factor in the high crime rate according to some experts. Isolation can have detrimental effects for some people, leading to negative behavior. And the disparity between rural and urban, and the changing traditional Alaska lifestyle and cultures is also a large issue. Domestic Violence is a serious problem in the state, and limited access to help and resources; that would be available in an more urban populated area, compounds the problem.

Here is an interesting page that gives a more complete picture of Native issues, alcohol, crime, and discrimination in Alaska

The complex picture of crime causes, victims, and perpetrators in Alaska can not be boiled down to a simple assumption; "because of the large number of Native Americans and alcohol abuse"
Question: Does Miami Florida have a high crime rate? What statistics prove this. ? I am doing a report on crime and I can not find any statistics to prove one way or another. Also, the basic question of if there's a high crime rate is never really talked about. I would appreciate any help, especially links to statistics.
Answer: Among the 257 cities with 100,000 people or more, Miami has the 15th highest rate of violent crime (6,119 crimes per 100,000 people), the 90th highest rate of property crime (5,163 crimes per 100,000), and the 65th overall (6,655 per 100,000).
Question: Is the city of Casa Grande in Arizona known for a high crime rate? My husband and I are looking into relocating to Casa Grande, Arizona, but were concerned when we read the crime statistics and data for 2005. Although it sounds like a nice place to live from everything we've read and seen about the city, the crime data shows a much higher than average crime profile. Can someone FAMILIAR with this city please give me their opinion on the crime rate associated with Casa Grande, Arizona?
Answer: This is a tough question because Casa Grande is a whole town under development... what it's crime rate will be like after matures is a good question.
If you're communiting to Tuscon or Phoenix then it is going to be a really tough commute. I live North of Phoenix and I LOVE the area I'm in!!!
Just know that there are different "feels" to every area you want to go to. Casa Grande just doesn't have a true identity yet because it is growing so fast. Great prices on housing but again, if you're commuting... you might want to look at some other options.... This is a great time to buy right now and you could get a good deal closer to where every you're working. You can email me and I'd be happy to help.

Question: How come America has such a high crime rate compared to other countries? In school we were talking about how other countries such as Canada, Japan, etc, have such a lower crime rate than America. Our teacher told us it wasn't because of violent movies, video games or anything like that, but she didn't elaborate on the cause.
What is it that makes us Americans so violent? It's very embarrassing...
Lei: Well I'm not asking about other countries, am I? If you don't know, please don't answer. Thanks.
Answer: africa and parts of india have high crime rates as well as places in south and central america, the carribbean, europe, and well, darnnett, just about everywhere has bad crime. you cant say just one place if you havent lived in the others to experience the facts.
Question: does Manhattan have a high crime rate? I plan on moving to Manhattan. Is there a high crime rate there? is it a safe city? Which neighborhoods are safer than others? what about Brooklyn? help me out here people!
Answer: Overall, NYC is very safe by large city standards. Most of Manhattan is very safe. Crime does happen though and I would be lying if I dismissed your question at that. Crime happens more in lower rent districts like Harlem and uptown from there. Pretty much below 96th street is are safe neighborhoods. Rent is high, though, with studios going for $1500 and up and one bedrooms being anothe $3-400.
You can find lower rents in the other boroughs whiole still being convenient to Manhattan as our transit works 24/7. I don't know BK that well, but there are possibilities in Queens in areas like Astoria, Sunnyside, Woodside and Jackson Heights.
Question: Why does Westminster have such a high crime rate? Westminster has nearly twice as much crime as places such as Lambeth and Hackney, yet is supposedly a really wealthy area! Anybody know why?
Answer: hey! i live in westy haha
idk good question
maybe cause it's a nice area so people want nice things?
Question: Does Phoenix, Arizona have a high crime rate? I'm looking to move there when I get into my mid-20s, and I want to make sure that it is a relatively safe place to live.
If it does have a high crime rate, is there anywhere else in Arizona that is really safe to live?
Answer: Phoenix and the rest of Maricopa County is one of the fastest growing in the U.S. Places like Mesa, Tempe, Avondale, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley among other neighboring cities are clean and offer wonderful shopping as well as numerous golf courses and water parks.
The down side is Phoenix is ranked numero uno in auto theft as well as human trafficking to and from Mexico.
Consider Tucson as well!
Edit@Stay away from South Mountain!!
Question: What do Europeans think about the USA's high crime rate among racial? minorities?? Or just in general what are your thoughts on why violent crime happens so much more often in the US than Europe.
I agree Americans have tons of guns.
Mexico has strict gun control AND a murder rate much higher than the US
Answer: Can't say anything about the USA's high crime rate among racial minorities which you claim, since not all information is available on this. The numbers provided by the media (to you and to me) are not necessarily the entire truth. But this is a different subject alltogether.
For me ( a European) it seems that many people still feel like they are in the Wild West and need to have guns to shoot the one who looks funny at them.
Then there are the expectations, that one is only worth something when one has money - regardless how he got that. So if this means doing it the criminal way - it is ok - and is easily forgotten on how the person got their money.
The other reason I think is the big gap between rich and poor and a general frustration that one has to work 3 jobs and it is still not enough.
The media has a big part in this. I remember being in the US, when the sniper out of the car trunk was captured. Instead of giving a report on the necessities the whole thing was made up like a movie, the same pictures shown thousands of times, with a capturing voice, telling me to stay tuned, because the news about the sniper will come up shortly. In the end they did not tell me anything new, but I felt I had been brainwashed for the last 2 hours.
Now, what would happen, if not only there would be a strict gun control, but if there would be no more guns - anywhere in the world.
Yes there are other ways to commit a crime, but chances to survive that are greater.
Question: Is there a high crime rate in Africa compared to other countries, or less? A source to where you got this info would be great as well.
Answer: Africa is not a country
Question: What would you do to avoid trouble if you are new in a city with a high crime rate like Detroit? I know it's common sense to not go out after like 8 clock but that's just impossible !!! I don't have a car and still feel that I need some fresh air sometimes.
Answer: new to detroit huh, depends on the area. but it would be wise to have someone or two with you, but too many also would mean looking for trouble. watch how you dress, check your stance. be cool but not a smart ass. dont stare directly into the eyes of a passer byer thats a challange. but have eyes in the back of your head. walk fast, dont stop, get where your going. and dont act scared or intimadated. but be on your guard. never stare at someone on the streets or in a car. never stop to give directions, just say: man you must not be from here and keep going. sometime for them to ask for directons is a distraction and you might get jumped from behind. just keep movin on..... detroit is getting better its movin downriver now....
Question: Does Portland, Oregon have a high crime rate? I am looking for cities to consider for college. How is Portland's crime rate compared to the national average? If you live or have lived in Portland, did you witness any crimes?
Thank you.
I am looking for cities similar to Seattle. If you have any suggestions with crime rates that are not high, please let me know.
Answer: Portland's crime rate is above average, but it's not that bad. We don't have murders around here. The crimes are usually just robbing a store or someone's house. And those are in neighborhoods. PSU is a good college to go to, and is in downtown. You can take the max (lightrail system) and the bus without being harmed. I live in Vancouver (right outside of portland) and go to Portland all the time. It's a really nice area. I'm going to the art institute which is in the Pearl District (rich district) where there is no crime whatsoever. It really depends on the area of Portland. Overall it's a really nice city to live in, with friendly people and a lot to do. PCC and PSU are really great.
Question: Do you live in a high crime rate or low crime rate area? I live in the city of baltimore the crime rate is EXTREMELY high

Answer: I live in a town that im not going to name..but its got a pretty high crime rate..and the town i lived i b4...me and my lil sis used to hear gunshots everynight....and my lil sis would cry on my shoulder for hours in fear.
Question: is the country brazil a high crime rate place? I am asking because my uncle told me this hence he got mugged there for his cell phone in the underground subway station.

Question: Is there a high crime rate in Brighton or Thornton, Colorado? I'm about to move there and I want a safe neighborhood. Is Brightton or Thornton close to any gas, plant or any railroads?
Answer: the fbi keeps statistics on crime & can be searched by city, state, etc... go to website.. keep in mind population of area & also check neaighborhoods nearby
Question: If the UK has so much CCTV coverage, why do we have such a high crime rate? They say we have the highest CCTV coverage in Europe. If so, why does the UK also have one of the highest crime rates? Is it because all the bad guys love the attention?
Answer: i think that because we have more cameras we can detect crimes more easily... as most people do not know that they are being watched they commit these crimes, remeber if a crime is seen then it has to be reported...
if there is no camera in a place that a crime has been commited where no one is present then its could be hard to determine if a crime has occured... therefor it is not reported...so there seems to be less crime...
did that make sense?
hope so!
