Question: what is a great SUPER high fiber food for my cat? My cat has intestinal issues and sensitive tummy since she hit 12yrs old, she has constant diarrhea. The vet said to put her on a very high fiber food and she take a steroid pill pretazone every other day. Suggestions on what food to feed her to help her little butt and tummy that wont cost tons? I am on tight budget due to being single parent and in school full time.

Answer: I have found the best food in the world is Orijen, if you can find it. It's a Canadian company. Another good choice that is non-corn is Blue Buffalo. You can usually find that at Petco.

Answer: Baked beans! There REALLY high in fiber and protein! Give you're brother some baked beans on toast maybe with a glass of milk- for extra protein and the bread for extra fiber. Lentils and chickpeas are also great- not sure if there the tastiest things in the world thoe. Maybe try giving him hummus on flatbread or in a sandwhich? Pasta is also wonderful. Surprisingly it's high in protein... aswell as fiber. Try to get durham wheat or 100% whole wheat. Answer: The only food I know that is high in fiber, low carb AND complete protein is chia seeds. Quinoa is also high in fiber AND complete protein but is high carb. (maybe hemp also, not sure) The tool below can list foods high in protein & fiber, but it doesn't differentiate between complete & incomplete protein sources. Incomplete proteins need complementary proteins to include all amino acids. It is said that all amino acids are required (in the same quantities) for lean tissue utilization. (I don't know if this is true or substantiated or not) Nuts, seeds, beans, grains are usually high in fiber but are incomplete proteins. Question: High Fiber Dog Food and Loose Stools? My one-year-old labrador retriever has had trouble with loose stools since I got her at six-weeks-old. She's been routinely tested for all possible parasites and bacterias. Results were negative. Other than the loose stools she is happy, active, and otherwise healthy. We started with Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul Puppy Food and then switched over to California Natural Chicken Meal and Brown Rice puppy and adult food. The California Natural, we were told, was easy for dogs to digest because it contains fewer ingredients. My lab loves it, but the loose stool problem persists. The vet finally suggested we try a high fiber food. California Natural is about 1.7% fiber. Any suggestions for a higher fiber diet that is bi-product free? I looked at Orijen, but the protein percentage was a whopping 46% versus the typical mid to low twenties. A few of you mentioned that you thought my vet was wrong in saying that fiber would help the loose stool problem. I did some research and spoke with the vet. Here is what I found... There are two types of fiber and they accomplish very different things. Insoluable fiber bulks up a stool, absorbing liquid in the colon. Soluable fiber ferments into a fatty acid gel, lubricating the colon and softening the stool for easier passage. So, in essense fiber both firms stools and softens stools. Every body requires a different amount of fiber -- a different balance. The food I am feeding, the vet explained, has a very low percentage of fiber compared to most brands. This is why she suggested a higher fiber content. Through experimentation, we should be able to find a fiber content that best suits my dog's digestion system. Thank you for all of your advice. Answer: If you are happy with the food you have chosen, and need to add fiber, try adding Bran Buds (available at any grocery store) or Metamucil to her food (start with a tablespoon, and work up or down from there). I have had the same issues with one of my dogs-the California Natural is the only food my dog was able to tolerate. Some other options for bulking up stools are adding cooked oatmeal to the food or cooked brown rice.

Answer: It is just possible he may be having some other problem than hemorrhoids? I would like to advise you to consult a good surgeon. He will do P/R and proctoscopy to make sure that there is no other problem. There are some very important causes for bleeding, that should be ruled out.
