Question: HONEY????????????!!!!!!!!!!!? Has anyone ever herd of using honey on proud flesh? My grandmother did but everyone that i have asked thinks im crazy!! any one who knows anything about it please help!!!?
You wrap it so I dont think that the bees or dirt would get in. and its she used it for healing proud flesh after the vet did what she could.
not trying to be rude, sorry, just trying to explain it thanks so much for all your help guys!
It wasnt back in the day, I guess she read an article about it, it was about three years ago just before she passed away. And if you would read the question I really only need answers from people that have herd of using it or have done it, not what people think about it that have not tried it, thanks tho i also think the same but i want to know what others that know more think. thanks again
Answer: Honey is a natural antibiotic. It is good for cuts, but I have not heard that it is great for proud flesh. It may not treat proud flesh, but it may do a good enough job treating the cut that proud flesh doesn't develop.
The second paragraph of this link may explain why it works on cuts better. http://www.purezing.com/living/food_articles/living_articles_antibiotichoney.htm
Question: Some honey I transferred from a big jar to a small jar has become extremely thick after only 3 weeks? The honey in the big jar is still nice and thin and usable. Could this be because I didn't wash out the small honey jar? (All it had in it before was honey, so I didn't think it was necessary to wash it.)
Both jars have been at room temperature.
Thanks!
Answer: honey is the only thing that never spoils unless the container you put it into had contamination in it,
just heat it slightly in the microwave or hot water
Question: How do i start a new honey bee hive? I'm considering starting a Honey bee hive however i don't know a whole lot about it. What equipment does it take to start one? What type of honey bee is the best? How to make honey? Can a single hive produce enough honey to make any money? What are different ways to make money with honey bees? Are the woods around Pittsburgh PA a good environment for honey bees? Any other information about this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any answers!
Answer: Find a beekeeper in your area who is already established. They might be the best resource of specific information to your area. Otherwise an AG extension aagent, or the AG department at Pitt, or Penn State. There is likely to be permitting involved, especially if you plan on selling any honey. It is not exactly a lucrative endeavor if your hives fail, but it can at worst break even for you costwise. Getting to know your USDA SCS people can give you leads on who might be looking for hives to be set. You might be able to charge a little for "renting the services of your bees. Yes, you will be a bee pimp. ;-) Orchards, tomato growers, other fruit operations, even seed operations like Burpee seeds.
As for best bees, your only 2 options are the European Honeybee, or the africanized hybrid honeybee. The latter is more aggressive, but controllable. and they are more resistant to many of the parasites and diseases that befall European honeybee populations. Both are susceptable to BT pollen though.
Some of the equipment, if you know how to work with wood, you can build your hives leaving your other major expenses to be extraction equipment, the bees themselves, and the bee resistant garments the smoker, deep cycle batteries and electric fencers that run on batteries. There are a number of books with plans for hives on the web, searching through http://www.archive.org will save you some searching time on three major databases, Archive.org's, Gutenberg project and Google books.
Question: How much honey is too much honey if trying to loose weight? If I drink 4-6 cups of green tea a day with 1 teaspoon honey, will that sabotage my weight loss?
Would I be able to add a little more honey?
Answer: It's WAY better than sugar... I can tell u that. It contains calories, but 1 tbsp a day would actually benefit your health and immune system, not to mention it can give you a boost of energy. Try to mix it with cinnamon, because the combo is very beneficial towards health.
Question: How the honey bees carry the nectar or honey from the flowers? We can see the pollen from flowers being carried to the hive by the honey bees - the pollen is stored in some transparent sacks attached to their legs. But where is the honey/ nectar stored while carrying from flowers to the hive?
Answer: The nectar is carried back to the hive in a special 'stomach' ( not a true stomach of course as no digestion takes place).
The hairs covering a bee's body are very feathery and pollen clings to these hairs. From time to time the bee 'combs' off the pollen grains and stores them in a basket-like structure of spines in the back legs. All this is made easier because the pollen is sticky. Bees have been observed carrying pollen weighing 60% of their own bodies!
Question: what makes honey crystalize? Is it bad to eat once it does? So if you leave honey on the counter it gets hard. I have often added hot water to get the last bit out and then add it to my tea. But should this not be done. Should honey be refrigerated after it has been opened? Is there a difference between the treatment of raw and cooked honey?
Answer: Honey never goes bad. Simply microwave it. Honey was found in the Egyptian pyramids from thousands of years ago, and it was still edible.
Question: How is honey better than sugar and what are some good points of honey? I think I am going to honey instead of sugar or other artificial sweeteners. I want to know as much as I can about honey as far as the health benefits or health negatives.
Is the web site you sent safe or is it the one with a virus?
Did a web search and can't find what he listed, People do not open his web site!
Thanks all of you , all answers were close to equal and all added more detail, and thanks very much.
Answer: Honey is OK but isn't a miracle food. It's expensive and when cooking cannot be automatically interchanged with sugar. You usually need to use more honey than sugar.
I like it for glazes and marinades for the flavor and it tastes good in tea.
Question: How important are honey bees to our environment? It has been said that the honey bee population has decreased alot over the past few years. I have read an article which said that some type of virus may be the reason. Couldn't this play a big role in our environment? Could this be part of the reason why allergies our on the increase among Americans? I'm just not sure exactly how it could affect the pollen counts. Honey bees are seldom seen anymore. And now its dealing with pests such as Yellow Jackets and wasps. Since the population of these two insects is soaring in our area! I would much rather have the honey bees!
Answer: declines in the bee populations are going to change the flora
A parasitic mite ,changes in temperatures, disease and killer bees,
also the spraying for mosquitos kills other insects in advertedly,
and the bee keepers moving the hives around and disinfecting the hives has also very bad effects ,we cannot interfere with Nature and NOT expect anything to happen
90% of the feral (wild) bee population in the United States has died out.
In the Netherlands bee diversity is down 80 percent in the sites researched,
and that "bee species are declining or have become extinct in Britain."
the numbers of wildflowers that depend on pollination have dropped by 70 percent.
If bees continue to die off so would the crops they support and with that would ensue major economic disruption and possibly famine.
Bees are not the only polinators but if these things are happening to bees we can bet on it that other insects are also in trouble ,on top of this many people are spraying for mosquitos ,with drastic effects .
so much follows the insects in the food chains ,that we can expect a lot of very bad changes in the environment .
Albert Einstein said ,that when the bees disappear we have 4 more years to live
that may be dramatic ,but the effects will be drastic nevertheless.
Question: getting rid of honey bees in house? How do we get rid of honey bees in our house?
Our balconey has a medium sized whole (few inches) with honey bees swarming in and out, but we're positive that their honey bees.
But where their staying is above our ceiling, so we can't spray anything in it, because our ceiling might break, or have a whole in it, where bees could come inside our home.
Looking at the ceiling, you can hear the bees, and see spots where the ceiling is soft, and wet.
Would it be worth blocking the hole? There might be hundreds of bees in there, so they would probably slowly die.
*****************************
do you have any idea about what to do with the ceiling, while we use dry powder to try and kill the bees? it's very thin, and it could possibly break. what should we put over it? or pain over it?
Answer: The bee keeper is the way to go! In many areas, due to the large amount of commercial hive deaths, honey bees are protected. Therefore a commercial pest control company can not touch them! Good luck with this!
Question: What would taste similar to honey mustard and is vegan? Before I went vegan, I always loved McDonalds honey mustard snack wraps. I got some chicken style seitan and was planning on wrapping it in a tortilla with lettuce to make something similar. The only thing I don't know what to do about is the honey mustard. I don't eat honey anymore, but I want something that taste similar or just as good. What could I put on it instead of honey mustard? r could I put anything in the mustard to make it taste similar?
Thanks =]
Answer: Try making your own honey mustard, but instead of using honey, use agave nectar. Here's a recipe for honey mustard, never tried it though.
Question: How much honey to use in place of light corn syrup? I'm wanting to use honey instead of light corn syrup in a marinade recipe. How much would I use if it calls for 1/2 cup corn syrup? Is honey sweeter or are they equal?
Answer: Honey is healthier than corn syrup but it will change the flavor of your marinade and final product. I would NOT use honey but if I had no choice I'd use no more than 1/4 cup.
Healthier:
Scientists at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign say that honey may be a healthier alternative than corn syrup due to its higher level of antioxidants, compounds which are believed to fight cancer, heart disease and other diseases.
Honey, which contains a number of antioxidant components that act as preservatives, also shows promise as a replacement for some synthetic antioxidants widely used as preservatives in salad dressings and other foods, according to Nicki Engeseth, Ph.D., associate professor of food chemistry at the university.
Dark-colored honey, such as buckwheat honey, is generally thought to contain higher levels of antioxidants than the light-colored varieties, according to the scientists. Previous studies by the researchers suggest that honey may have the same level of disease-fighting antioxidants as that of some common fruits.
Question: Honey in cooking to replace sugar? I've heard that honey can make a good substitute for sugar in cooking or baking. Is this true? Should any other things be taken into consideration?
Answer: Will you be my sugar or my honey ?

Answer: use in the same amounts
Question: How local does honey need to be to potentially help with allergies? I recently had my first allergy test and learned that I'm allergic to dust mites, cats (sad!! - I have two!) and ragweed. In anticipation of the ragweed season being six months away or so, I wanted to start trying local honey now to see if it helps with my ragweed allergy. I know it has to be unpasturized honey, but how local does it need to be? I found a farm within about fifteen miles - is that close enough?
Thank you.
Answer: Fifteen miles is close enough. Even further would be okay. Honey is a natural product and it is not processed in any way other than to remove the comb. You may not even have to travel to a farm to get local honey. I purchase local honey at the supermarket where I shop. It's quite common for bee keepers to distribute honey throughout their area.
Question: What are the characteristics of pure honey, and what ways to indicate whether it is pure honey or a synthetic? I need the answer as quick as possible! and it would be better if someone tell me the method of testing a honey to make sure it's a pure honey and not a fake.
Answer: the right way to check the purity of honey is to dissolve a teaspoon of honey in a glass of water.if it dissolvesit is not pure.
Question: What kind of honey is good for getting rid of acne scars? I've heard that manuka honey is a good choice, but they are so expensive. Will the cheaper honey at the super market work just as good?
