Iron
Question: Iron?????????????? My husband and I eat no pork at all, and have very much decreased our beef intake. Pretty much we only eat chicken and fish. I mentioned this to my mother, and she said that we should watch our iron level. So my question is what foods are high in iron? From what I hear taking an iron supplement pill, and be kind of hard to digest, or something. Any ideas would be welcome. :) also i hear that iron is supposed to help with fertility. is this true?
Answer: hi, I am 7 months pregnant and diagnosed with an iron deficiancy problem. I have to eat lots of broccoli and take iron supplements. The best way for your body to break them down is to take Vit C tablets with them. Also, try some echinacea, this will help with any ill affects the iron has on the body. I dont eat pork and cant stand red meat while pregnant, so, like you, I only eat chicken and fish... So, good luck and go to the doctor if your worried.
Question: When applying a iron-on patch to blue jeans -- What temperature setting should you use on the iron? I never used an iron before -- but the jeans I was wearing have a threadbare hole starting on the upper leg -- I found an iron-on patch in a sewing box and a iron in a closet -- I was just wondering what type of temperate setting should I use on the iron ... thanks for any info --
sorry meant temperature
Answer: I use those all the time on my husbands work clothes.
I use it on COTTON... you should know that after about 10-20 washes the corners will start to come up and all you have to do is RE-IRON them back down.
Question: What is the difference between cast iron and the iron we use in staples or nails? What is the difference between cast iron and the iron we use in staples or nails? And is the iron we use in staples , steel , and nails wrought iron?
Why is cast iron black , and the iron we use in nails staples etc. silvery?
Answer: One is iron the other is steel .The difference is mainly carbon content.
Question: How do I use an iron for clothes? I know I can use an iron to get wrinkles out of clothes or to put pleats in pants but I can't seem to iron effectively. I'll pass the iron over the wrinkles and they won't go away. Can someone give me a definitive way on how to do this, step by step?
Also can you iron without an ironing board?
Answer: Set your iron for the type of fabric you have. Most of the newer irons have a chart right by the dial telling you what fabrics need what temperature. Also consider using a steam iron and yes of course you can iron w/o an ironing board. Just use a hard surface with a towel, I would recommend getting a tabletop ironing board though.
Question: What iron setting do you use to apply an iron on number? I'm trying to attach an iron on number to my hockey jersey. It was previously applied, but I washed it and it started to come off. It seems like there is still some of the glue, or whatever causes the number to adhere to the jersey, on the back of it where it came off. What temperature setting on the iron should I use? Any other tips?
Answer: This has happened to me before. I just put the iron on a low setting. Then I put wax paper on top of the shirt and then covered the wax paper with a towel. Why did I do this? Because if you iron straight on the number it will melt not only on the iron but all over the place.
I could be wrong but this is always how I do it for myself with iron-on things start coming off. Another tip to prevent this from happening again: just wash it and air dry it. The reason for the cracking is not the washer--it's the dryer with all of the heat. Best of Luck!
Question: What is a good straightening iron to buy? I need a porcelain or ceramic(or any material that is less damaging than metal) straightening iron for under $50. I need one that will LAST, because this is my 5th flat iron in 2 and half years because they keep going dead. I use a straightening iron on every day of the week except for the weekends.
Any good flat irons or suggestions on how to prevent flat irons from going dead?
Answer: As a stylist, I have used a lot of flat irons/hair straighteners, including Sedu, Hai, Infrashine, Chi, Paul Mitchell, Solia, Big Sexy, Andis, Babyliss Ghd, T3, Kenta etc. You should get a Professional hair straightener, they style much better and faster, and most importantly, they protect your hair.
In terms of performance:
The best ones are: Sedu, Kenta, Solia, Infrashine, Ghd. These are top of the line professional brands
Above average: Chi, Hai, Paul Mitchell,
Average: T3, Big Sexy, Andis, Babyliss
Below Average: Conair, Vidal Sassoon, Revlon, Bed Head etc. These are cheap consumer brands that you will find in drugstore. If you care about your hair, do NOT buy them.
=== Flat Iron Hair Straighteners FAQ ======
Q: What size should I choose?
A: For most people, 1", 1-1/4" or 1.5" are all good choices. If you have very thick, coarse, long or ethic hair, bigger size (1.5" or 2") will save you some time. If you have thin, fine hair, get a smaller one (1" or 3/4").
Q: What temperature should I should on my hair?
A: Based on my expereince, 380F is the average temperature to use. If you hair is thick and coarse, bump it up a bit, if you hair is fine or overprocessed, start it at somewhere 300F, and try it. If the setting does not work well for you, increase a bit until you get a setting that works well for you but does not burn your hair. Trial and error.

Question: What are the side effects of taking iron tablets by pregnant women and what are the reasons for side effects? My wife is pregnant and is in her third trimester ( 7th month). Whenever she starts taking iron tablets, she starts feeling uncomfortable after consuming them for a week. Some times, she feels pain in stomach. Sometimes, she will have frequent nature calls. But, one doctor says that iron is very important and she should not stop them taking despite the side effects . Another doctor says that she should stop taking iron tablets and she will perform iron injections whenever needed. We are surprised that how can any one bear iron injections when they can't be comfortable with iron tablets? We are in dilemma about following the advice of any of these two doctors.
Answer: If the doctor insists she take iron supplements, I would try buying it liquid form, that way she can control how much iron she is getting. Pregnant women do need it, so even taking just a teaspoon full in a glass of orange juice is better than not getting any at all.

Question: Whats the difference between iron vitamins and pills? My doctor told me-since I was iron deficient- to take iron pills, but I told him I already had iron vitamins at home and if I could take that instead, he said taking the pills will be better. Are iron pills safe to take? Whats the difference between the two?
Answer: Vitamins with iron have a small recommended daily amount of ferrous sulfate in them. Iron pills have a mega-dose of the product.
Take any iron tablet only as your doctor suggests and take it with juice. Iron absorbs better when taken with vit C.
Question: What is the difference between malleable iron and wrought iron? What is the difference between malleable iron and wrought iron?
Can malleable iron be made into jewlery? Where can I buy malleable iron?
Answer: Malleable iron is the oldest member of the family of nodular irons. Like all nodular irons, malleable iron exhibits good ductility. Incorrectly considered by some to be an "old" or "dead" material, malleable iron still has a legitimate place in the design engineer's toolbar. Malleable is the iron of choice for small castings or castings with thin cross sections (less than .25"). Other nodular irons tend to be difficult to produce in these applications. Malleable iron is also preferred for castings seeing duty in low temperature environments since it retains its ductility better than other nodular irons at low temperatures. Used for small castings requiring good tensile strength and the ability to flex without breaking (ductility). Electrical fittings, hand tools, pipe fittings, washers, brackets, fence fittings, power line hardware, farm equipment, mining hardware, and machine parts.
Wrought iron is commercially pure iron. In contrast to steel, it has a very low carbon content. It is a fibrous material due to the slag inclusions (a normal constituent). This is also what gives it a "grain" resembling wood, which is visible when it is etched or bent to the point of failure. Wrought iron is tough, malleable, ductile and easily welded.
Examples of items that used to be produced from wrought iron include: rivets, chains, railway couplings, water and steam pipes, raw material for manufacturing of steel, nuts bolts, horse shoe bars, handrails, straps for timber roof trusses, boiler tubes, and ornamental ironwork.
Question: How do you rest a hot iron on the iron plate? I have just bought a new ironing board and the resting plate consists of a hole with 2 rubber bits. How do I rest my hot iron on in. Won't the iron melt the rubber? Or is it for one of those irons with the external water reservoir?
I usually rest the iron upright but the end of the board where you suppose to rest it on is just a gapping hole. How do I rest it on that with out it falling off?
Answer: ~*~ I rest my iron plate down on the plate and the little bits are silicone not rubber so that is why they don't melt. It is a much more secure way to hold the iron since it cannot tip over.
Question: What is the best iron on the market at the moment? It is finally time to replace my iron. I was wondering what everyone thought was the best iron to use.I would like something light and easy to use as I only iron about once a week so want something simple. Also are certain iron makes better than others. Any help or advice appreciated.
In case it wasn't clean I was talking about irons that one uses to iron clothes:).

Question: How do I iron my clothes without static? Whenever I iron my clothes, the clothes get a bunch of static electricity; for instance, when I hold my shirt up, the front and back will cling together. Also, the iron seems to leave marks on the shirt that are kind of white-ish and make the top layer look a little bit shiny at parts where there is a fold in the bottom layer. Are the static electricity and marks related? What should I do to get rid of them?
I currently have a cheapo "Rival SteamWave" iron and the setting is on "Cotton" or "medium high". I also dry my clothes in the dryer for 45 minutes on "low" after the washer finishes washing them. Should I dry my clothes for a shorter period of time? If so, will damp clothes smell after hanging in my closet?
Answer: 1. To avoid static, iron with the steam option, and look at the control settings to make sure that you've set it high enough to generate steam (cotton is usually high enough).
2. Avoid shiny by ironing on the back of the shirt there.
3. Don't put away damp clothes. Not only will the closet eventually smell, you may start getting mildew on them!
I have a bar over my dryer. I put the clothes on hangers as I take them out. Sometimes they end up not needing ironing! After ironing, you could hang them there if it's convenient, or from the shower rod nearest your closet. I do that even after steam ironing my husband's shirts and pants because I use a high temp and steam setting to get them done fast and well-creased and I suspect that they're still a bit damp inside.
4. Alot of people use dryer sheets like Bounce and their clothes come out less wrinkled and there isn't any static. They work.
Question: Is it safe to use Iron Utensil which is turning oil and food to green color? I bought a cast iron kadai (Indian deep fry pan) from local shop as there is no branded ones in market. Iron is quite cheap. And that is why I don't think anyone will sell impure iron knowingly as mixing anything will increase its cost. What kind of impurity found in impure iron can turn color of food to green? I have stopped using the utensil but I am in dilemma whether or not to through it in bin.
Answer: Well, if it's turning oil & food green...I mean, that can't be a good thing...I'd throw it out if I were you.
