Question: What juices should i drink for healthy skin? I have terrible dry skin on my hands and legs ,pink acne scars on my cheeks and an oily forhead.I'm going home for christmas and am goin to wear a beautiful dress that looks great on my skin tone.I just want my skin to glow.I have access to freshly made carrot and orange juices only (no vegetable juice) everyday. Will this help? Also how many glasses a day should I consume. Also whatelse can I do ?
Answer: I am not sure there are any quick fixes for your skin, but there are items that can help in time with both your dry and oily skin areas and with the scars as well. Foremost of all is to incorporate a healthy diet and lifestyle and make sure that you are getting plenty of all the essential vitamins, minerals and other nutrients needed for optimum health - and drink plenty of good, clean water. A great all around nutritional product is IntraMAX, which contains 415 essential nutrients. We take it around here and swear by it. Another good one is Dr. Mercola's Whole Food Multivitamin Plus.
The biotin suggestion is an excellent one. Good supplements for the skin include hyaluronic acid and silica.
Carrot and orange juice are both good choices. Here is some informaton about important juices and other suggestions for you regarding skin health:
Pomegranate - The hundreds of ruby-colored seeds inside pomegranates were once thought to symbolize fertility, and given the fruit's proven powers as a strong antioxidant, it has given birth to a huge number of products, including designer juice and high-end skin-care creams. The pomegranate's power comes from ellagic acid, a type of polyphenol, which is an antioxidant found in red wine and green tea. Antioxidants seek out and neutralize cell-damaging free radicals that come from the environment (pollution, UV rays) and from the body's natural aging process. Ellagic acid has been shown in some studies to neutralize free radicals more effectively than the other polyphenols found in green tea and red wine. It's also more stable in skin-care products than some other antioxidants, like vitamin C, which can lose potency when exposed to light and air.
Grapefruit - Until the 19th century, grapefruit was grown purely as an ornamental fruit. Rarely eaten, it was known only for its looks - an interesting harbinger of its modern-day promise to improve ours. A 2005 study by the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation, in Chicago, showed that the scent of grapefruit on women made them seem an average of six years younger to men. Grapefruit's main use in skin care, however, is as a citric acid. Like any alpha hydroxy acid, citric acid loosens the bonds between skin cells, allowing dead ones to fall away, revealing smoother, more radiant skin.
Other benefical juices:
* Blackberry juice. The top vitamins for the skin are vitamins A, B2, B3, B6, B12, C and E. Blackberries have all six, including abundant A, C, and E.
* Dark skinned grapes (juice the seeds and all) contain resveratrol, an important compound for anti-aging as well as plenty of vitamin C and ther good vitamins and nutrients.
* Acai - Though terribly over-hyped with some online products and MLM weight-loss schemes, acai is indeed a super healthy juice loaded with anti-oxidants and nutrients that have many benefits, including benefits for the skin.
* Oranges - Besides being loaded with Vitamin C and Vitamin A, a compound found in oranges and other citrus fruits may prevent sun-related damage when applied directly to the skin before sun exposure, say researchers at the Arizona Cancer Center and may have some similar benefits when consumed directly.
* Blueberries are considered to be among the top three healthiest juices, along with pomegranate and acai.
* Raspberries, Dark Cherries, Apple and Strawberry are all very healthy juices loaded with good vitamins and nutrients for the skin and overall health.
* Though not a fruit, carrots and carrot juice are absolutely loaded with vitamin A, which is an essential nutrient in maintaining not only healthy skin, but strong teeth and bones.
Some other skin care suggestions:
* Mushroom - The extract of several Japanese mushrooms has been shown to reduce inflammation, which can affect collagen in the skin and contribute to changes associated with aging, such as the appearance of fine lines. Reducing that inflammation keeps skin cells vital and functioning and also suppresses irritation so that other active ingredients, like antioxidants, can do their jobs. Shiitake mushrooms have multifaceted benefits for the skin. They contain antioxidants that block proteins known to cause cell breakdown; they provide chemical exfoliation; and they also contain kojic acid, which has a lightening effect on age spots and discoloration, making skin appear brighter over time.
* Pumpkin - Despite its prevalence in favorite sweets, such as pies and muffins, pumpkin is quite acidic. And the enzymes in pumpkin act like salicylic acids, chemical exfoliants that encourage skin cells to turn over more rapidly. Pumpkin is also a carotenoid, a derivative of vitamin A, which is indicated by its orange color, and that makes it an antioxidant in addition to having exfoliating properties. Pumpkin seeds are a good source of zinc and have been used as a natural remedy for acne. Studies show that zinc has an effect similar to that of the common antibiotic tetra
Question: Is it that much healthier to drink high-sugar content fruit juices than to drink Sprite? I know that drinking soda is bad for you, but I was wondering if switching to fruit juice would be any better. For all my meals I need to use my university's dining hall, which offers either fruit juice, sports drinks, or carbonated soda. I am sure that the fruit juices contain as much sugar as my favorite soft drink (Sprite). Is it still worth it to make the switch?
Answer: It is slightly better, though that's not saying much. Soft drink is terrible for you, so commercial fruit juices are simply better than soft drink. Whatever kind of sugar it has, the glycaemic index is about the same, so it will cause a blood sugar spike much the same as soft drink.
Some will argue that fruit juice has better nutrional content than soft drinks because of vitamins and minerals. Freshly squeezed juices using the whole fruit are a great replacement for soft drinks, but high-sugar commercial fruit juices have only a fraction of those nutrients, none of the fibre, and really are only marginally better.
All the goodness that's meant to be in juice can be found in fruit itself with a lot more fibre in there to help reduce the glycaemic index.
It's good that juice is not carbonated, however really you should switch to water. That's the only drink I can see being significantly better than what you're drinking now. If you start now, you will become accustomed to drinking water and it will become a habit.
If you really refuse to switch to water, you could switch to diet soft drink, however those are still not very good for you at all.
Question: What are some nutritious and tasty fruit juices i can make low cost at home with my whole fruit juicer? I want to try and make some tasty fruit juices!
Ive just brought a breville whole fruit juicer and want to use it. What recipes can i use to make these?
Thanks
Answer: Hi, I find one of the cheapest and most nutritious is to buy a big bag or cheap carrots and a bag of sharp, cheap apples, and mix about five carrots to one apple. If there's one on offer, buy a cucumber as well and put half of that in. It's full of goodness and tastes wonderful. Good luck with it all. Angela
Question: How do I stop my steaks from purging / releasing their juices when they are resting? I made steaks today and when they were finished cooking i took them straight from the pan to a plate and covered it with tin-foil. When I went to serve them they had purged all their juices out. What do I do to prevent that so I can keep all their heavenly juices inside? Haha.
PS: I don't pierce them 'cause I know better haha, and it's when they are resting that they are losing the juices, so I don't think resting will help.
Answer: Sear each side for 2-3 mins til carmel brown this will help stop the purging of the juices when they rest. And use a slotted spatula like the grill kits have, or Tongs. Just a reminder I know you know better.
And to the Culinary student, study harder you answered the question wrong.
Question: When do you start giving babies water and juices? My daughter is 5 months and I'm about to start her on solids. When should i start giving her juices and water and how often/how much should I give?
Answer: Around 6 months I tried some water in a bottle, cus I didn't introduce the cup just yet, then when I did the sippy cup I tried juice, but she just wanted to play with it..but she drinks about 6 oz a day of either juice or water...she is 11 months.
Around 6 months is the recommended age to start juice & water. Its not necessary, I always diluted the juice with water 50/50. No more then 4 oz of juice or water a day. You don't have to get the Gerber baby juice, as long as it is 100 % juice with no ADDED sugar its just fine..stay away from citrus juices for now, their tummies cant handle it.
Question: What is your experience with diet pills or juices? So I know they're not good for you and I know crash diet results aren't usually permanent, but I need fast results to look great in an outfit for an upcoming event even if I gain most of it back. Has anyone here experimented with diet pills or juices and had success or failures? Which brands and what side effects?
Answer: Like you already know, the weight loss was temporary and gained back plus some. Permanent weight loss is best done with the knowledge that the body can only lose 2-3 pounds/fat/week. Any more than this is loss of muscle and since muscles helps burn calories and also makes us look good it is not something you want to lose.
So, eating too little calories will simply cut your metabolism too much and also cause you to lose muscle, and then gain back fat. That's a 3-way formula for not-smart dieting.
Question: Why do you buy orange juice fresh and not room temperature like other juices? The only oj ive ever seen at the grocery store is in the refrigerated section. Why isn't it sold with the other juices, in room temp?
Answer: That's a very good question. I googled it and came up with this link, which offers several different reasons.

Question: Why do some juices distillate less than other juices? I am doing my science fair project, and for my experiment i am doing the distillation of fruit juices. The cranberry juice distilled less than the Hawaiian Punch and the Mango-Peach Juice. Could you tell me why? Thanks!

Question: When did you start giving your baby the Gerber Juices? My daughter will be 8 months in a few days. Someone told me I could start giving her the baby juices from Gerber. I read up about it and saw that they should only get 4 oz a day, but whats your experience?
Answer: Gerber has great juices! Make sure to only give them apple, pear, or white grape since citrus juices will cause a very sore bottom. They should only have 4oz of juice per day until they are 12months, or whatever your doctor suggests. I give my little guy two ounces of juice mixed with 2-3oz of water once or twice a day and he's also 8 months old. I have also mixed the juice with his cereal and he loves it. Check out the nutritional facts on the gerber juice and then look at some other (more inexpensive juices) like old orchard or juicy juice.
Good luck!
Question: Why do my juices taste like metal? I've been using the same juicer for about 3-4 years now. Since the first time I used it my juices have a hint of metal taste. I mostly use carrot based recipes. I thought the taste would go away after a few uses but it never did. Anyone have any tips?
Answer: The metal bits of the juicer might be corroding slowly into the juice, especially if you're making acidic fruit in there, and it's a cheap quality metal.
I've actually read that some lower-quality juicers for home use (not the more expensive, commercial and restaurant-quality ones) have rotating blades in them that scrape together and actually distribute minute amounts of metal into your drink, and there's a few websites I just found that has people complaining that their juicer had a mettalic taste because of this:
"... (There is a) risk of them touching and scraping bits of metal into your morning orange juice! This is a flaw found in many commercial juicers, which can lead to an unpleasant iron taste in the beverage in question."
http://www.best-juicer-reviews.com/kempo-juicer.html
"...(Other juicers) react with the acidity of the juice to give your fruit juice a metallic tang taste. "

Question: Why do different brand apple juices taste different, is it because of the apples they use? As i have been pregnant, my thing has been apples, every color, every kind. I am noticing the different flavors that they all have. I have drank apple juice all of my life and noticed that they taste different as well. Now I am putting the two together and wonder...
Do certain brands use only a certain color apple (or type apple) to make their juice, or to all brands use a mixture of apples to make their juices? For example, is there any brand that makes their juice from granny smith apples only? How do the companies determine what kind of apple they use?
Answer: Every brand uses the types of apples available to them.
These are usually drawn from local suppliers.
But some import concentrate out of season.
Question: What is the melting and boiling point of milkshakes and juices? Can anyone tell me the melting and boiling point of milkshakes (e.g. chocolate milkshake) and juices (e.g. orange juice) please?
And at the same time does anyone know what are the components of orange juice?
Also, what are their densities?
Answer: millshake (the type from mcdonalds for example) freeze -3 to -4 degrees centigrade so its melting point i would guess around 1 to 4 degrees cent.
the boiling point would probably be similar to water (100 degree c) but containing lots of sugar i don't know if it would be higher or lower.
orange juice cosists of juice of an orange or concentrated juice of an orange and water. depending on the concentrate its usually 1 part to 5 parts water.
