Learn
Question: How can I learn to be satisfied with my limited ability to understand and acquire knowledge? I'm a bright guy and I know quite a bit, but I'm always trying to learn absolutely everything I can and it is so frustrating because I know I can't. I want to know so much, but the more I learn the more I realize how much more (even more) there is to learn. I will never ever stop learning, but here is one thing I need to learn: how can I learn to accept the best I can do?
Answer: learning is a continuous process, it never stop or ceases to stop!.
i would like to ask you a simple question.
what you want to do with all the knowledge which you acquired ?
There is fine line in which we all walk, there is a lot of difference between knowledge and wisdom.
knowledge is to acquire by learning, where as wisdom is to know where you can apply your knowledge.
Knowledge with out wisdom is waste and vices-verse.
This statement doesn't mean to stop learning, but learn what is required to fill you passion, and to answers your own unique questions.
knowledge and wisdom should go hand-in-hand.
Question: How to learn ActionScript with no knowledge of programming? Im trying to create my own video game in adobe flash cs4, in order to do this i will need to learn a language called actionscript 3.0. I have no programming knowledge at all, so how do i start out with the basics to work my way up so i can learn actionscript?
Do i need to know programming first? How do i go about doing that? Do i need to learn a language to learn programming? Please help.
Answer: Can you make a word or sentance without knowing A-Z? So i would like to say that without knowing programming you can not make a program, it does not matter what language you will choose, but its matter that must know about programming concepts such as, variables, arrays, conditions, loops, functions, objects etc.
Question: How easy is it to learn similar instruments if you learn one? For example if you learn the violin, how easy is it to also learn viola, cello and double bass.
How about if you learn one of the flutes, perhaps just the most common C flute, how easy is it to learn all the other flutes. And how about the piccolo?
Is it if you just memorise the different position of the notes you can just do them all right? Also, can you help me find other instruments which are similar like this? Thank you.
Answer: I agree with the previous posters.
One thiing I'd like to add: the music is in your head (timing, pitch, and aestetics). Playing the instrument is just the mechanical part, which may require some muscle training and technique.
Question: How can I learn to learn how to build a car from the ground up? I've always been interested in working on cars ranging from building a beastly corvette to building a rock crawler from the ground up. I'm about to graduate with a degree in chemical engineering and after I graduate I don't plan to go to go back to school somewhere like UTI or what ever. How can I learn how to build an engine, learn about the underside of a car, learn different parts blah etc?
Answer: do they not have adult learning or evening classes where you are , in england you can do either in mechanical engineering
Question: How should I learn programming and what languages should I learn first? I want to learn how to do programming but at the moment I only have a limited knowledge of basic. What programming languages would be best/easiest to learn first and how do you think I should go about learning them?
Answer: For starting, try either learning C++ or Java. Just by searching online you can find many C++ tutorial websites, like
http://www.cplusplus.com
Java is made by Sun, and it has a nice website for many aspects of Java:
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/index.xml
Using the Java API can help with learning new methods and such. They also offer tutorials.
Always start with the "Hello World" test (search for that if you do not know what it is). After that, learn about variables. From there, it's your choice. Many tutorials have step-by-step guides.
Question: How do I learn to play an accordion? I'm a big fan of regional mexican music and well being hispanic is one of the reasons why. Anyways, I have always wanted to learn to play the accordion and have been saving money to buy one and learn how to play it. I'm 21 and I should of started when I was younger, but I still have the desire to learn to play the accordion. Does anyone know where I can learn to play it? What kind of accordion is the best for a beginner?
Answer: Don't worry that your to old to learn an instrument! All you need is the desire to learn it!
The accordion used most for mexican music is a three row button box. Usually tuned GCF.
As far as what to buy, just stay away from the really low price China imports, they are more trouble than they are worth and are hard to learn on. You'd be better off buying a good brand older model used for a lot less than a new one.
I don't know where you live, so I can't suggest any teachers, but if you'd like to learn on your own, this company makes some good videos.

Question: How do I learn violin without a teacher? I have wanted to learn violin for a long time. My daughter (7) wants to learn also. I thought it would be fun for us to learn together. The only problem is there are no violin teachers around us. I think the closest one is in another state (around a 3 hr drive). I would love to find someone local who could give private lessons but unfortunately there are none. I am determined to learn and I want my daughter to have that opportunity also. Any ideas?
Answer: I think that if you try to learn without a teacher, you are just *begging* to pick up bad habits and bad technique. The violin is a very demanding instrument. There are some instruments you can teach yourself (to a point) but violin really isn't one of them. I've taught myself a few instruments, but when it came time to learn violin, I went out of my way to get a teacher, and I think that was absolutely the right decision.
I think you should do two things:
1) Redouble your efforts to find a more local teacher. I can't believe there's *nobody* around you who plays violin. Even someone who has had proper training on the instrument but isn't normally a professional teacher would be better than trying to go it alone. Maybe a high school student or something?
2) If there really isn't anyone, I would drive the 3 hours to get to a real teacher. Even if you only did this, say, once a month, having *some* proper guidance will really help.
Question: What computer languages and techniques should I learn in order to create a highly profitable website? The website, would have members, host audio and video files, make transactions, and probably more. Basically I want to learn how to construct a professional website in my garage, all the setups required, all knowledge that needs to be learned ect…. Where is a good place to start? I am already learning HTML and purchased Dreamweaver. I think I’m going to need to learn some computer programming languages as well. What are the popular programming languages that create small software applications for the web?? What knowledge needs to be learned to start up a computer server in your garage?? Please don’t respond with going to college and getting a degree, I know there is plenty of information on the internet and in books for the knowledge to be learned
Answer: You should focus on the following:
a) XHTML and CSS. Coding a site using these makes it more searchable. You can learn these at http://www.w3schools.com/ or go to the www standards web site at http://www.w3.org/ (this may be lil complex reading but the best indeed).
b) How to optimize your site for search engines. Look at http://www.google.com/webmasters Consider making a google site map & submit to google. The customers reach to your web site from search engines.
c) Get a UI done from a professional, who understand usability. Or possibily learn it yourself.
d) To run a e-commerce site or even a normal site, choose a good hosting service. I would recommend Yahoo Samll Business. Look at http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com This will simplify a lot things for you. You dont need to learn complex programming languages to create & run your site. It makes online transactions a simple affair.
e) Create a startegy to promote your site. You may like to understand & try Google AdWrods for the same. THis can really drive some cool traffic to your site.
f) For e-commerce, the least that you will need is a paypal account or tie-up with a credit card. Again Yahoo Small Business can be of great help.
Best wishes for your new venture...

Question: Can you learn or be taught to harmonize? I have always wanted to pursue voice lessons, but the only thing I think I can't do is harmonize. Is there some way that teachers teach you to do this? Maybe its because I just sing and have yet to take a lesson and learn to warm up my voice and such....
Still if I could get some information on learning to harmonize that would be great. It seems a lot of people say that it's something that you can't "learn or be taught." Thanks.
Answer: The main thing is listening ... try to hear a line that's not the melody. For instance, try listening to some famous duets ...
"Endless Love" - Diana Ross & Lionel Richie
"Beauty and the Beast" (End Title) - Celine Dion & Peabo Bryson
"The Sounds of Silence," "Scarborough Fair" - Simon & Garfunkel
"Another Time, Another Place" - Sandi Patty & Wayne Watson
I learned how to harmonize by listening to Simon & Garfunkel, and playing clarinet in band. I was never one of the top chairs, so I hardly ever got to play the melody, therefore I got REALLY used to hearing harmony lines. Anyway, I sing harmony just fine now, and I never sang a note until college. It can be learned, just be patient. And if you don't get there, at least you can enjoy some good tunes! Good luck and have fun!
Question: How do I motivate myself to learn a new skill? I'm currently studying industrial design at a university level. This implies that I have to learn how to draw and sketch. However, I have trouble sitting down and just learning, because I know one gets better at such skills by practice over a long time. I have the same problem with other skills that I need to learn. Once I get into it, though, I usually have no problem. I know I'm interested, and I really want to learn. How can I force/motivate myself to just sit down and learn?
Answer: Well if you are in industrial design, I would assume you are interested in taking a wild idea an making it work. So I suggest you find soemthing that interests you. For example, there is a fantastic force of scientists and designers coming up with new innovative ideas to create energy collectors for wind and solar energy. I suggest you get interested in a topic and invent something new...then it is simply a matter of transfering that idea onto paper. Right now the only thing stopping you is fear of failure.
Question: If you learn to play the acoustic guitar, do you need to start all over again to learn the bass? I plan to learn how to play the acoustic guitar but I want to play other guitars, mostly the bass and funk guitar. Do you need to learn all over again? How different, except for structure and sound are guitars?
Answer: Not very different at all. The main difference between an acoustic guitar and an electric bass is the way that you strike the strings in the right hand. On an acoustic, you can strum with your fingers, or more commonly with a pick; on the bass, however, you generally pluck the strings upward- no "strum" is involved, usually. The left hand (or hand that's on the guitar neck, fretting the notes), is acting on the same premises that it always does. It may take some time for your left hand to acclimate to the width and weight of the bass strings, but the techniques between guitars are very similar.
Funk guitar is slightly different: while you still strum and and fret essentially the same way, the chord shapes and rhythms involved can be considerably more complex at first glance. Essentially- they're just harder, lol. But, to answer your question completely: all guitars are played, really, with the same faculties. You strum strings, you fret notes, and you use a variety of techniques to effect the tone or quality of the sound. Depending on the style you choose, yes, you may have to learn some new techniques (Classical and Flamingo guitar take a considerable amount of finger dexterity, for instance), but most techniques are transferable to other guitars; furthermore, every style you pick up will become easier and easier because of the similarities. You can, for instance, perform "hammer-ons" and "pull-offs" on an acoustic guitar, electric guitar, electric bass, mandolin, banjo, lute, etc, lol. Hopefully that answers some of your questions?
Question: How do I self-learn to play the acoustic guitar? What is the best way to learn how to play the acoustic guitar by myself? Any tips? Any self-learn (free) guitar websites to recommend? I wanna learn the techniques of freestyle and improvisation especially, and imitation of performers. :)
I wanna learn how to play like Tristan Prettyman and Jason Mraz.
Answer: Regardless of what style you want to play, you should learn a broad range of styles. That will give you a good base from which you can hone your own style.
I posted an answer to another of the same question a few days ago. Mine is answer #6

Question: Is it important to learn to use the boogie board before learning to surf? Can I just learn to surf without learning boogie boarding?
Is it really hard to learn it at 20 years old?
Ah, and I can swim very well.
I don't relly understand the answer n.2
Answer: No you're not too old. Surfing can be learned at any age. You don't "play" against people, you aren't on a team... you're by yourself so you can be out there when are are 70 if you like.
No, you don't need to boogie board first. The reason you may have heard that is just so you can get familiar with the ocean and how the waves work before surfing. It's much easier and you can ride the waves and kind of observe and learn before you head out to surf. By no means is it mandatory to learn before surfing though....
But again, it does help to be familiar with the ocean. If you go out and aren't a strong swimmer, don't know what rip currents are, and can't read the waves very well, etc., you aren't going to do as well. Watch the waves, see how they break, when they break, where they break, look to where the water is more calm (channels), watch the other people surfing, swim around in the shorebreak.. etc. Just ways to increase your knowledge of the ocean, which can't hurt when learning a sport in it. Have fun!
Question: How could I learn about hairdressing on my own? Right now I'm a sophomore in high school, and I've dreamed of becoming a hairdresser for the past few years. I know the cosmetology school I'll be going to when I graduate, but I want to learn a bit about cutting hair in the meantime.
I want to go into cosmetology school ahead of the game. I've read up on hair care; but now would like to learn about actually CUTTING hair. To where I could give my friends trims and stuff. Any tips on how I should learn this?
Answer: Well my high school was EVIT is a program if you have enough credits you can goo off and start earning college credits. Most of my friends go to the cosmetology one.
Question: How do you learn to play guitar and have fun? I love to sing and write songs, but to be successful in any way I will need to learn either guitar or piano, and seeing that I already own a guitar, I hope to learn that. I need suggestions, cuz whenever I pick it up I just get frustrated or bored trying to learn chords. I need help!
Answer: You need motivation for sure.
There are many ways.
If you'd like to accomplish it with someone you could
a) Hire a music teacher
b) Enlist the help of someone you know that plays guitar that you know you could get along with.
If you'd like to accomplish it on your own, there are many ways
a) Online. You may have to pay a fee, but you could do it on your own time in your own schedule [[you'd need the motivation to stick to it]]
b) Buy a book..but most likely that'll bore you
c) Get a video.
d) Figure it out on your own, or with a group of people.
Good luck!
