Living Food
Question: What would the monthly cost of living (food, toiletries) for a single, minimalistic immigrant in Scotland be? How many pounds would I need monthly in order to live somewhat simply (food, toiletries, an internet connection) in rural Scotland -- somewhere in Orkney, or the like?
Answer: Sorry, I have no idea. I guess the easy answer to that one is that is varies from person to person.
Question: are there any raw, living food, or health stores in Kansas? I am moving to kansas in a month and I am really getting into healthy living and specifically vegan and raw food dishes. In California-we are at the cutting edge of that lifestyle-but I have no idea what awaits in Kansas. Can I even get organic veggies? All help is appreciated.
Answer: you should not have a problem finding health stores
i live around the kansas city, MO area and LOVE going over to the Kansas side to do some shopping
Whole Foods
Wild Oats
Farmer's Markets....easy to find on the Missouri side too
but then again it depends on where you are moving to in KS
the closer you are to MO as i am thinking the more populous bigger the cities and towns.......but A LOT of Kansas is still very rural
good luck
Question: why feed living, feeling animals to a snake when you can more conveniently feed already dead food? okay, so i am fully aware that there are quite afew heated debates out there about feeding live food to snakes, but i still can't wrap my head around how some people can watch a helpless little animal get slowly swallowed whole where it goes through a painful death of having needle like teeth sink into it and drag it to its death...to me that is just cruel...i am getting a snake very soon and fully intend to feed it frozen thawed food... firstly there is the matter of possible injury to the snake...many snakes r killed by their own prey..or at least blinded...plus many live animals carry disease wich is passed to your snake...thawed animals do not have any of these dangers...plus they are cheaper and you can buy in bulk with no issues...i dont even see any competition between the two...
okay so please explain...but if you cant play nicely and share your opinion without being rude please dont bother because your criticism will be ignored and a complete waste of time..play nicely now lol
okay bobby D well i know that they arent committing suicide, but atleast they are killed humanely. and watch it.. i am vegetarian so i wont be "throwing any burgers down my throat" any time soon. but thanks for 'your opinion' i dont mind if you dont agree with me lol just be nice all i did was voice my opinion..
hey bron thanx for your answer. some people believe tat it is healthier to feed live because it is what they eat in the wild, but keep in mind these are not animals that were raised in the wild, they are captive bred (with exeptions, but where i live keeping wild animals is illegal so bear with me lol) and it is actually healthy to feed frozen food because freezing kills bacteria and other harmful properties that could hurt your snake.
hi snake lady.. yes perhaps in the wild snakes are to hunt and kill live mice... but in the wild the mouse does have some chance of escape. by your logic, if the snake does not eat the live mouse that is in the tank, then the mouse should kill the snake, survival of the fittest and all that...what you call nature...but this is a controlled environment that the mouse has no chance in..if it goes to hurt ur snake ull stop it..but you just sit and watch the snae slowly kill the mouse? yes i am proud to say that i call that cruel...that is not nature.
i am not against feeding snakes. i am aware they must eat mice. but i am against feeding LIVE mice when there are perfectly good mice that are humanely killed for this purpose. thankyou every one for your answers they are all taken into consideration :)
thanx ozz and alex s :) good to know that i am not alone.. i would like to choose you both as best answer...but i cant can i lol... now i dunno wot to do :\ ..thanx every one else too for your opinion
hay pandora :) very good answer.. yes i know that some snakes will only eat live..and i respect that the owner tried their best to change that, but if it cant be changed then fair enuf, we dont want the snake to die... but i think that if it is possible, the best food is frozen :) i agree with you. have a good day.
Answer: Well done to you and I am in COMPLETE and TOTAL agreement with everything you say. You have obviously researched this topic in depth, as have I, and I would recommend the site below - which agrees with us. Good luck and enjoy your snake.
Question: why is it that cells that transport food are living cells? i don't understand why it's only food transport that requires living cells in a plant, but if its water transport the cells are dead and hollow..
help please.
Answer: Because food actually needs energy to be broken down for the plant to produce more energy for the plant.
The cells need to break down the food, so as to use the remaining products for the chemical energy they produce.
Water however does not need to be broken down as food does and is simply absorbed through the plant to the living cells that will later utilize it.
Question: Is Obama being elected because so many liberals believe the government owes them a living, food and health care? Is that why liberals are so hell bent on getting rid of capitalism ? Because they know in a capitalistic society, each individual has to work for what he or she wants and needs and is not owed that by the government ? Thanks in advance for your answers. God bless.
Answer: My friend, there are lots of people, both Democrats and Republicans that think that the government owes them a living.
These poor people, some by choice have been voting for Democrats for their entire life and they are still poor.
Question: the ending point of human evolution is living without food do you agree? The evolution on the earth started with primary plant life which prepare its own food and the present human body development is the peak stage of animal development and still the evolution is continuing and one day in future humans can live without food that should be the ultimate target of natural evolution.
Answer: Evolution is about survival and reproducing the characteristics resulting in survival - there is no end point unless you consider immortality which is essentially impossible. Even protons eventually break down
Question: What is the best way to get rid of whipworms from your dogs food & water dishes & living area? I just had my dog spayed & the vet said she had whipworms & gave her meds, I just wanted to know what was the best way to get rid of them from the living area & her food/water dishes.
Answer: wash the dishes with a little bleach. rinse well. be sure to wash all bedding and either wash or replace her toys.
if possible stay out of that area of the yard. you may need to move her dog house to another area for a while.
in the house...vacuum and mop. empty the vacuum after wards and wipe the bottom down with a bleachy rag.
hope this helps. :)
Question: Living in China, and miss food from home, can you give me a recipe idea? I only have stove top burners, and a microwave. I've been away for a long time, and miss good American food. Question: I would like to know the living costs in Zurich, please specify the break-up costs for living, food, travel? I am a student, and I would like these costs to be minimal. Incase you have any advices for the same, I'll be grateful.
Answer: I have advice- stay out of Zurich!
Seriously, unless you MUST go there for some reason, it is incredibly expensive, one of the most expensive cities in Europe. And there are much better places in Switzerland. If you're going there to study, then my best advice is to get a copy of a Lonely Planet guidebook- it has all the cheapest options for food, shopping, travel, accomodation, and sample prices. There's a reason why backpackers use guidebooks.
Question: How can I get my ferrets to eat raw food after living a whole year on a Marshall's ferret food diet? My ferrets have lived a year of their life on a Marshall's ferret food diet, which I know is the worst thing a ferret can have (from all the poisonous chemicals in it). I really need to switch their diet to a raw food diet, or even a cooked meat diet, but they just won't even sniff the meat I give to them. They're stuck on their junk food and won't let go of it. Can someone please help me!?
Answer: I actually heard the opposite thing about Marshall ferret food. I read that it had no preservatives and definatly no poisonous chemicals. It does however lack some vitamins so I add them in seperatly. Maybe you could put small pieces of meat in their normal food. If they eat the pieces put a little more meat, then a little more, and a little more until they get used to it.
Just remember to remove the meat quickly after meal times or it will spoil and give them some vitamins too so they have a complete diet.

Question: What is the living/ food quality at Ohio State University? I am thinking about going to school at OSU and would really love some student opinions :)
Answer: I went there for 5 years not too long ago. It was simply a great time. There is a ton to do and a ton of people to meet. The incoming freshman class was twice the size of my entire town.
The dorms are not the greatest of living conditions but they will suffice for what will be a great first year. Living in the dorms is a must have experience in my opinion. You will make lifelong friends and memories.
As far as food goes there are a lot of options both on and off the campus. Dining hall food is hit or miss. It really depends how picky you are but they usually serve at least 2 or 3 main dishes everyday that you can choose from as well as countless side items. They have standard food stuffs you can buy like pop tarts or cereal. You will have a meal plan your first year that is included in your tuition. I had the max plan at the time and it honestly was way too much. I ended up buying like 50 some packs of pop-tarts my last few weeks of the quarter just to use them up.
Off campus there are you typical fast food joints as well as a bunch of smaller cafes and coffee houses. There is Buckeye Donuts which was always one of my favorites that is open all night with donuts, gyros, etc. To sum it up you will have a great selection to choose from. There is something for every taste and diet. It is a big campus and city.
After your first year I would suggest leaving the dorms. It will allow you a lot more freedom and believe it or not can be more affordable. You will learn a lot about yourself and get your first real taste of paying bills and utilities (assuming you are a traditional student). You will have responsibilities for your school work as well as your out of classroom life. You have the world at your feet and it is yours for the taking. You will learn a great deal more then any textbook will ever teach you.
Have fun, make mistakes, make friends, get involved. Definitely go to football games. It will be the time of your life. Just remember you are there to get a degree so don't have too much fun. Good luck.
Question: What's the most important lesson you have learned from living on your food storage? This is for those of you who have put away food storage and then actually chosen or had to live on it for a period of time exclusive of store bought food. If you were advising someone who's putting in food storage, what would be your advice?
Answer: I've always had a WELL stocked pantry and 2 freezers. Make sure that any meats are well wrapped, in freezer zip-loc baggies, with the date and name on the front ......As soon as you get close to using up something in your pantry, refill it at the next opportunity:) Store pastas, beans, rice in tupperware or glass mason jars; it keeps them fresh and looks pretty in the pantry......
Question: My family may be relocating to Redmond, WA. However does anyone know the cost of living-food,utilities,homes? We currently live in a 5 bdrm. 1.5 bath Ranch style home with a finished basement for 180,000. Our heat is ridiculously expensive-about 700 a month. Does anyone know the real estate market, cost of living? I was looking up homes in Redmond and the surrounding areas and couldn't find any homes for our family under 270,000(which is way to much cause we can barely afford what we pay now.) Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Answer: I love this tool- it has everything on there from a dentist appointment to a newspaper.

Just type in the state you live- where your going and how much you make- it's will tell you everything you need to know.
Question: What would be a good estimate on cost of food per week, living by myself? In the relatively near future, I'm planning to begin living on my own. I'm trying to plan out the expenses I can expect to face, and food is one of them.
Does anyone have any idea what I might be paying per week on food? I love cooking so I don't plan to eat out too much, and I don't eat a lot of meat or dairy products. (Occasionally I'll have chicken, eggs and cheese.)
Any help is greatly appreciated! :D
Answer: I dont make one big trip. I shop 3 days a week to get just what i want. I would budget $35 a week if you don't need lots of meat..
