Low Carb Foods
Question: What are some great low carb foods for me to eat? I'm tryin to stick to a low carb high protein diet, i just wanted some suggestions on great low carb foods. I want to be able to know lots of them so i don't have to eat the same thing everyday
Answer: I did this diet and it worked great at first, but I don't really recommend it at all, because you can't eat like it forever and as soon as you do have carbs, you put the pounds on far quicker than you take them off. It really mucks up your metabolism.
FACT: Dr Atkins was 18 stones (252pounds) when he died!
Question: What are some good low carb foods that everyone in the family will like? I just found out that eating low carbs will help with my PCOS. I'm just wondering what kind of foods (recipes welcomed please) are good and inexpensive that are also low carb. Thanks in advance. :o)
Answer: Sarah,
I'm a Type 2 diabetic and, as such, really have to live a low carb lifestyle. The thing that I've found that makes the most sense is to try to incorporate as much meat as possible into everyday recipes and meals. There are so many things to do with meat as long as you stay away from breading and sugar-filled sauces. Meats are really filling as well, and get you to "full" faster than carbohydrate-laden foods.
What I really like to do is buy the meats that are on sale, and just be creative with them! I've found the crock pot to be an excellent tool for doing this.
Hope this helps!
Question: What are some quick and easy low carb foods? I have decided to start a low carb diet, specifically, a cyclic ketogenic diet, but I am having some trouble finding convenient foods to eat. I hate to cook and I'm used to just grabbing small easy meals like cereal and sandwiches for the majority of my food. whenever I look up low carb foods, I find tons of recipes, all of which don't help me since I am a terrible cook. Does anybody have any quick and easy meals that do not involve either carbs or an oven?
Answer: You can grab one of those rotisserie chickens that is available at most markets now... and you can shred some cabbage to use as a salad... ranch and caesar salad dressings are low in carbs...
Question: what are some name brands of lower carb/low carb foods? I am new to the lower carb lifestyle and was wondering what are some good name brands for low carb foods. Also, I do not want the super artificial South Beach Food or Atkins food. Thanks a bunch!!
Answer: There are a lot out there. Take a look at this sites. I usually make my own food low in fat, so I just look for products for my cooking:

Question: What are some good low carb foods I can eat ? I just got braces and so far the only thing I've been able to eat is ice cream and smoothies. both of them have high fat and calories, and I'm technically supposed to be on a low carb diet for soccer. any food ideas?
Answer: fruit juice is NOT low carb. You can eat eggs, tuna fish, chicken, shrimp, cheese, for just a few examples. Do some research online, too, for low carb foods.
Question: High Protein Low Carb foods for picky eaters? I am starting a diet that is high protein low carb foods only. I am a very picky eater and I was wondering if anyone could tell me some simple foods to eat on this particular type of diet. I don't like tomatoes, onions, lettuce, olives, or mushrooms. I love squash, green beans, cheese, and chicken. Thanks for all the help.
Answer: Learn to eat more foods if you are picky . Stay fat it is better for you. You can learn to like foods you think you dislike now. Choose healthy options and be adventurous, what is stopping you from enjoying these foods. Have a salad with olive oil, vinegar, mustard, salt and very thinly sliced garlic. Mix the dressing in with the leaves and tomato's its actually edible if you don't like it too, open your mouth and your mind,
Question: Low carb and low fat foods, give me a list of them? Can you give me a list of low fat and low carb foods, preferrably low carb than anything.
I've looked on the internet but i don't seem to find that much info there.
Answer: A low carb diet is not a low fat diet & not only will not work as well, can be quite unhealthy because lowering carbs & fat means you increase protein and rely on protein for glucose. Excess protein with low fat can be quite dangerous. A list of low carb foods are in the first link under sources.
You can lose more body fat eating protein & fat (don't eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast, eat all you want, but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter & half an avocado a day (for added potassium). Keep the calories high & the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.
The first week is just water weight but fat is lost thereafter if you keep your calories high enough. Otherwise the body will strip it's own lean tissue for nutrition. Although that may look great on a scale it will make it MUCH easier to accumulate fat in the future (since all that pesky lean tissue burning up calories will be gone). The body won't release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow metabolism to compensate & store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering calories, it will continue lowering the set point, til it can survive off nothing & store fat on anything. The body will only release it's fat stores if it knows there is plenty of nutritious food.
Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) & exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.
The core of Atkins program is converting the body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). Dietary fat levels need to be at >65% of total calories, if not, the body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).
It takes minimum of 3 days to convert a body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis). People feel sluggish the first week but most feel better than ever thereafter.
Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) trigger insulin which can store the calories eaten into fat. The more protein the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.
Simple carbs are addictive & can be disastrous to health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs, eat one every time you want "something" - have huge omelets with bacon, sausage, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops smothered with peppers, mushrooms & cheese - pork rinds & dip or tuna/chicken/turkey/egg salad - steaks - a huge sugar free cheese cake. Eat so much you won't feel deprived of anything. By the 4th day, the addiction will be gone & you can start making healthy choices.
High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger & unbalance other hormones. Controlling insulin levels will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so lean muscle will be gained even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase muscle mass with high HGH levels.
Ground flax seed (2 Tbsp) 1/4 cup water, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min. to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle & nuke 2 minutes. Suggested for daily fiber needs.
The first 2 weeks eat several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce & celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers & more variety of vegetables thereafter - add 5 grams per day additional every week (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) til you gain weight, then subtract 10grams. That will be your personal carb level (everyone is different & depends on how active you are.)
Start with meat, fats & salads for 2 weeks and then slowly add in more green veg, wk4 fresh cheeses, wk5 nuts & seeds, wk6 berries, wk7 legumes, wk8 other fruits, wk9 starchy veg, wk10 whole grains. You will learn how your body reacts to different foods.
As long as you have <9grams carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control & shouldn't gain weight, no matter the calories. Many people gain weight on high carb, do low carb to lose weight & then are shocked when they return to high carb & gain weight. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar & maintain weight or health.
Question: What are some Low or No carb foods that you were suprised that they were low? I've been on a low carb diet before successfully and after 5 years of gradually gaining ten lbs of the 15 I lost I want to try to lose the 10 before I gain anymore.
I'm very familiar with the low carb and carb free stuff but I was wondering and hoping that I missed something.
Let me know if you've been surprised a certain food was low in carbs!
Answer: Pots of Jello - 10 cals each

Question: What are some good low carb foods? So I'm losing the last 10 pounds with a low-carb diet. I plan to eat around 20g carbs MAX each day.
What are some good choices of foods to eat? Specifically, what are some good fruits and vegetables with low carbs? And maybe even hook me up with a sample meal plan!
Thanks.
Answer: While 20g of carbs per day is DOable, your body will still lose weight even if you up that to 30 or probably even 40. (as a sidenote)
As far as fruits go, definitely berries are the lowest in carbs. (Realize that sugar is a carb so the sweeter the fruit, the more carbs it will have, such as pineapple and apples, bananas). Blackberries are the lowest, followed by raspberries and strawberries. After that, melons such as cantaloupe.
Most vegetables are low in carbs so long as you stay away from "root" vegetables--ie, potatoes, carrots etc. Corn is high in carbs as well. But most green veggies are good.
Nuts, in moderation are also an option for you.
Something i love is making my own yogurt (I used the recipe I found on the link below, I also added the article of the health benefits of yogurt). Most store-brand yogurts have a lot of sugar added to them. I use Stevia, or sometimes just the berries to sweeten. It's a nice treat!
Good luck! You're almost there!

Question: Low Carb foods that dont have too many calories? looking to add some foods to my diet to increase my daily calorie consumption because it is lower than it should be but i do not want to increase my carb consumption by too much. so low carb medium calorie based foods.
Answer: Vegetables are ideal, not being very calorie dense and carb rich. I highly suggest beans and legumes such as kidney beans, black beans, chick peas, and split peas. They are all carb and protein filled. One cup has roughly the same calories as pasta but twice the protein. You could also go for peanut butter which is a great snack food.
Try eating lean meats like chicken or even lean beef, tuna and other fish, no carb in any.
If you are willing to take a shot, try lowfat or fat free cottage cheese, high protein and very little carb.
Question: Low carb foods, i need to know? I have been told to eat more low carb foods, but know one tells me what they are. Just needing a few ideas
Answer: cheese-pickles-meats-pork rinds-slim jims-Vienna sausages-light green veggies---u need some recipes? :O)
Question: Where can you buy low carb foods? I am starting a low carb diet, and on the internet I see all these specialty foods that are made specifically for the Atkins diet, but I shop at big name grocery chains and can never find any of these foods. Does anyone know where I can get these? Do I have to order it online or go to a whole foods kind of grocery store?
Answer: The carbs are usually listed on the side of most food packaging, so you really don't need an Atkins logo to tell you this. A bit of common sense goes a long way as well. If it contains pasta, bread, beans, potatoes or rice, then chances are it is high in carbs.
You don't have to go online or to a specialty store. Just go to your regular super market and be a discriminate shopper.

Question: Looking for websites that feature low carb foods for diabetics? I was just diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and I'm at a loss as to what to shop for now. I'm looking for some websites to find foods that are Diabetic specific and low in Carbs.
My Diabetic counselor already gave me materials regarding everything I should do. I'm simply looking for some websites that offer some variety when it comes to cooking, carb counting, etc for Type 2 Diabetes
Answer: ask your Dr to refer you to a nutritionist. They can give you a booklet that will give you all the carbs and calories intake on the food you eat or should eat. It will also give you suggestions on what you can have for your meals, what you can substitute what food for what food and other things. it's odd that your Dr didn't cause mine did.your free foods as they call it are veggies. club mom has some recipes for low carb meals. mainly stay away from alot of starchy pastas. check the labels on your packaged foods. stay away from frozen meals i know some say low in carb but check the sodium content of the and the sugar. the best drink besides water is Lipton diet green tea. 0 carbs sugar and everything only 2% sodium drink it all the time. if you like grahm crackers( u can have a few of thoes) peaches ( u can also have a little of that) i have a great recipe u'd like for a desert.
